In the mid 1970s, I formed a three piece band (guitar, bass & drums). Our style was a fusion of rock and reggae. We gigged quite a lot, but nobody really, 'got' what we were trying to achieve. At one gig at a US Air Force (in England) a guy in the audience slipped a note onto the stage, saying, 'Play Yellow Ribbon, or I'll kill the power supply'. We obliged, but we still played it in a rocky/reggae style. And then The Police came along and showed us how it should've been done. BTW, on the original record, right at the end of the fade of the repeated, 'Sending out an S.O.S.' you can just hear Sting singing, 'Sending out an Esso Blue', which was a heating oil at the time. Good old British sense of humour.
We were called, 'The Flying Heroes'. I don't think l have any recordings any more. And l don't intend to rummage around in the attic all day looking for cassettes. I don't have a cassette player anyway.
Totally agree. The only reason I clicked on this video was to make sure the sound on my phone was working, and I ended up watching the whole thing. Simply incredible.
what i really liked was the fact that you switch hands on the hi-hat flawlessly, you are truly versatile and skilled, that was amazing, you nailed every back beat, every splash hit, every ride cymbal part, you make it look easy !! nicely done !!
Totally blown away. That was just a superb cover. I'm 58 and The Police were a huge part of my life growing up. Never ever did I think I would see a cover as good as yours. I have just watched this 6 times in a row, your work is flawless. Well done young man. I look forward to seeing more from you.
Very impressive! 🤩👍 Copeland himself had done loads of overdubs on the studio recording, like the Ride bell in the verses, the descending toms in the chorus and the fill-ins in the outro 🙂
I have been a drummer since I was 4 years old, and during the time I have been playing I have come across many many drummers who can play flawlessly. However none as swift and talented as you, Well done!! your hard work has clearly paid off👏👏👏
This is amazing, your cymbal work is on point and everything else just blew me away. This is by far the best drum cover of this song out there hands down.
You and Michalkow (and in his cover, he looks like he's been playing a bit longer than you have) - top drawer. I can only echo the praise of others in this thread who have understood the details they say you nailed down with various kit components. Outstanding!
Adam, este cover es increíble. El sonido es claro y tu técnica....WoW...Es una canción muy difícil de tocar y una de mis preferidas. Great Job, Congratulations!!!!
Your drums sound killer. Excellent 4-on-the-floor Stuart technique. I've been playing the bass for 20 years - want to start a band???? You should. Get out of the house and co-mingle......
There's some free sheet music of this song and you followed it pretty much and added some nice stuff. Well done. Are you dubbing rim click quarter notes? Seems that's how it was recorded. Playing ambidextrous like Simon Phillips makes this easier. Look forward to other covers. Great Job!
Ive seen others play it, but yes this is how i remembered it and played it, very fast and some techno, most over play the techno jazz, when its not really that at all Great job👍😎
I like how you play your left hand on the hi-hat very cool very strong left-hand you have my friend a little bit too much sauce but it's awesome sauce but yes very well-done super impressed
Superb, good job Alan! I will use your video to learn how to play this timeless classic with your permission. By the way, I love how your crashes sound, would you mind telling me the brand, measure and model of both? Maybe Meinl Byzance Sand?

What was your band called? I'd love to hear your songs :P
Yes I thought I was hearing things when he sang’ sending out an Esso Blue !
We were called, 'The Flying Heroes'. I don't think l have any recordings any more. And l don't intend to rummage around in the attic all day looking for cassettes. I don't have a cassette player anyway.
This is a flawless cover, and maybe Copeland’s best work.
By far the closest cover to the original I’ve ever heard, awesome job!
watch Jake gilbert's drum cover
i have watched so many drum covers of this song and finally someone played it like Stewart Copeland. My deepest respect!
Thank you so much!
Like everyone else I agree that this is by far the best cover I have ever seen..SC would be proud to shake your hand
Thank you so much, Clifford! That would’ve been a dream!
Well he might soon do it, Copeland is Alive anyway
You are so spot on. I thinking for any cover for that matter. How impressive. What talent!

This drum part is Proof of the “off center-on purpose” genius of SC. It’s A real accomplishment to learn this cover. Kudos and Thanks
Yes, Copeland is a master at composing interesting rhythms. Thank you!
Very impressive! 🤩👍 Copeland himself had done loads of overdubs on the studio recording, like the Ride bell in the verses, the descending toms in the chorus and the fill-ins in the outro 🙂
超絶テクニック!

Stunning!
perfect.... like it so much
Perfect good Job boy
You're a monster.... appreciate the effort put into this.. I had no idea it was so complex
Thank you! What makes it complex is really playing the overdub and the basic beat at the same time which Copeland never did.
Very well played! And perfect ride choice for this song btw.! Old classic Raker! :)
Thank you! Yes, it’s quite similar to the rides Copeland often uses :)
Excellent Drumming 🥁
Sooo amazing cover🎉
Killed it man, awesome job

Your drums sound killer. Excellent 4-on-the-floor Stuart technique. I've been playing the bass for 20 years - want to start a band???? You should. Get out of the house and co-mingle......
NAILED IT!!!!!
Great job Adam!
Чувак, ты крут!
Nice job! Stew admitted that he added another track for the cymbal bell in the third verse, but you did it all by yourself without overdubbing. Nice!
Thank you! Yeah, I decided to challenge myself and do it without overdubs.
I have played drums off/on for 40 years. i am solid but there is no way i can do what you did with this great song.
Just keep practicing man! You’ll get there :)

Nothing was dubbed in this cover. That seemed too much of a hassle haha. Thank you so much!

One of the best cover i seen !! What is the reference of the hi-hat ?
Thank you so much! The hi-hat is a Meinl Raker 14”. It has that crisp Copeland-sound :)
I miss my drum set! Excellent recreation, boy, let's see how you do it with One World, that one makes it more difficult in my opinion
Thank you! I can absolutely try that one :)
Ive seen others play it, but yes this is how i remembered it and played it, very fast and some techno, most over play the techno jazz, when its not really that at all
Great job👍😎
Thank you so much!
Awesome cover man, beautifully done.
Now try....
TOOL - 46 & 2
Gratz!!!!
that's insane actually
This is pretty good, you have good chops! 😎👍
Excellent job!!
Thank you!!
I like how you play your left hand on the hi-hat very cool very strong left-hand you have my friend a little bit too much sauce but it's awesome sauce but yes very well-done super impressed
Thank you! Can’t get enough of that sauuuuuce ;)
Nice playing, so cool how you use both hand on the hihat, for that song only doing it in that way makes it possible!
Thank you! Yes, there are numerous ways to play the grooves in the song but open-handed happened to be the easiest for me.
@@adamliljedahldrums9882 Love It!!!
