- Here I am attempting to be Stewart Copeland for 5 minutes. He has always been one of my favourite drummers! I used a new camera for this video. I bought a small GoPro Hero 2 camera, a cool waterproof, high definition video camera that is more geared toward sports related video. You can strap it to your wrist, chest or head and attach it to helmets. In this video, I've got the camera strapped to my head so it gives a unique "drummer POV (point of view)" If you want to see how the camera reacts to running and going underwater, check out this video...
• Video
I filmed the song a few times, Once with the GoPro on my head and the other times without it.
As in all my other videos, the audio is recorded once...usually while I'm filming the front view. In this case, I had two cameras filming while I recorded. The front view and side view. All other views were filmed separately. If I make a mistake while filming another view, I always revert back to the front view for that scene.

MAN THATS JUST PERFECT PLAYING.
Thanks very much!
Well done sir.
É verdá
Getting a compliment from you is pretty impressive..Watching your videos makes me want to quit!😀
Hey I'd absolutely LOVE if you covered this with your personal style! It's one of my all timers
I didn't know Sting was such a good drummer!
Stewart Copeland is one of the highest rated drummers EVER...he has reggae and jazz influences in his fling ! All 3 Police members are very intelligent and talented individuals. You won't find that many good bands like this in the next decade!
YaHozna1 came here to see this!
Ruben Beltrandelrio wtf is your problem
I guess that's why he went solo
Everyone thought that hahaha
Well done. You don't see too many people playing this correctly let alone as tight as that. Pearl should give you an endorsement.
Thanks very much Frank....and , yes they should!! LOL
Copeland is a genius. Nice job!
Thanks!
You know, i grew up casually hearing so many bands and songs that i just did not appreciate anywhere near enough, and didnt realize it until my 30's. Sooo much music just in the 70's and 80's alone with such depth and such genius and dynamics baked in, that is soooo easy to miss, if you are just a "casual" listener. I have since repented of that sin, and now study music at a deeper level. Its like a magical force in this world, for real. 🎉
Yeah, I tend to be stuck in the music of the 70's and 80's. Of course, my age plays a big factor.
Stewart Copeland would give this a 👍🏻
Why isnt anyone talking about the fact that this man played the toms too in the chorus? the toms were added as an overdub in the studio recording. i appreciate that! took things to a whole new level.
He's played this song on the drums so much he's actually turned into Sting.
@Ruben Beltrandelrio it's a fucking joke
Ruben Beltrandelrio ‘like your face’ was the best joke you had, lol.
You almost played it exactly like the original song! That is exactly what I want from a cover! Great job!
I had a friend that was a Police junkie. I know he would like your video. He passed away a couple years ago. Although your cover on this song is stop on, I can't help remembering my friend of 40+ years. Thanks for the memories
Adam, sorry to hear about your friend. I'm glad my video was able to spark some happy memories. Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks for watching! Hats are 14" Sabian AA's. 16" Zildjian crash to my left (not sure what series). Sabian 18" to my right (again, not sure what series). 10" Sabian B8 splash.
Didn’t know you were lead singer for the police though 🤷♂️🤘
I love those polyrhythms with the hi-hat and the rim of the snare in this song. You do them with so much ease!
+kchandaman
Love those too. Thanks!
Most people miss Stewart's 4 on the floor kick drum signature. You nailed it.
Shades of Keith Moon. It lets you do all the crazy stuff upstairs without ruining the bass and guitar players' timing.
That ride in between the hi-hat doe.....................
drummerdude0515 just like the original song! Copeland was such a creative drummer on coke xD
@@benst2594 The only difference is, Copeland overdubbed on the track. This guy played it in one go!
@@jqulrich No? he has done it live too.. it was all on one go
@@benst2594 Copeland overdubbed it in the studio
@@j.warburton5269 Is there a source for the info provided?
2:27 I love this part. Btw you look like Sting hahah
I do?? :)
Domenic Nardone not really, sorry... But Stewart Copeland would be proud of you :)
it's actually supposed to be played a tad differently
JuanBluesMan I fucking love that double hi-hat, probably my favorite part of the song
Fuck yes I was trying to find a video to learn from and he does it spot on!! :D
Man, you nailed that tune. What I like about your vids is your playing is spot on and your drums sound so damn great.
Kevin N Thanks!
This is gonna be a tremendous help, thanks! Great playing
Thanks, glad the video will help!
Having listened to this song for many many years. I never knew the drums on it were so intricate
Yup!
Hi Vitotone! Thanks for the comment. I generally spend alot of time figuring out a song by ear. I have a fairly long commute back and forth to work so I listen to a song over and over in my car while keeping time on the steering wheel. Once I get the song tattood in my brain, I'll take it to the kit. For difficult fills, I sometimes slow the mp3 down in a sound editing program like Audacity to figure out what the drummer's doing. I don't use charts and have never taken lessons.
Wow! Another brilliant cover. Respect to anyone that can keep up with Stewart Copeland. The guy is a genius, and so musical. And you rocked this. Great song, and a great cover. I'm subbing. You are a KILLER drummer, brother.
Thanks very much Jimmy Z!!
"on point!" love that cymbal work, to me that's what seperated Stewart from other drummers in the alternative/new wave rock music scene was that he made great work and lots of it with cymbals!
This is one of the hardest songs to play on drums and you sir have nailed it! I love this cover
Thanks very much!
Brilliant playing to a difficult number. Loved how you added the ride bell to the main beat. Many drummers say that Stewart used to add stuff in studio and layer it on the track. You actually could do all this and more. Many congratulations to you on playing such a lovely piece. The fact that you have not taken lessons and are self taught is amazing. Best of luck with your God given talent.
Thanks very much for the kind words!!
i love how you just appeared out of thin air
Wow. That had/has to be so fun to play because I had a blast watching it. Great job 👏
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Perfection!!! Perfect timing, perfect rhythm, critical hits!! ❤️
Thanks very much! I always try and learn (play) the song as accurately as possible. Sometimes I'm way off LOL!
Guitar player here. I had listened to this song probably a hundred times but never had paid attention to the drums. A couple of days ago I got spontaneously hooked by the toms part and the drum kick before the middle of the song 0:59.
Had to come to YT and find this masterpiece. Looks and feels like a super fun song to play in drums. Makes me so jealous of drum players!
Thanks very much! I'm kinda jealous of guitar players LOL!
2:27 i always heard that ride cymbal bell in the song, i’m so happy i found this video!!! thank you.
no problem!
Loving the groove at 2:27 :)
You are great Domenic! 👍🏼
Salutes fromn Coahuila, Mexico.
I appreciate that! Thank you! Greetings from Canada!
11 years later and it’s still just as good 🤯
I've been drumming for over forty years and have played this tune live many times. You absolutely nailed it.Great taste Dom.
I love this drum cover! The sound of your mic'ed kit is just awesome!!
Excelente!! Buen trabajo 👍
Once again...outstanding!
The quality is excellent- so precise and accurate.
Love all the flourishes- power and subtlety together- the hardest trick to pull off
Fantastic Cover.
I think I can play to this after watching this video, thanks for uploading
You're welcome Captain. Glad I could help!
That snare is so crispy. This is awesome - killer playing.
Thank You!
favourite drum track, awesome job
Maravilhosa execução! Tenho certeza que o Stewart Copeland está satisfeito! Parabéns!
Amazing work! ^^
Totally LOVE the first four tacts!!!
Bravo Maestro! I am always entertained and learning something when I watch your covers.
WOW...I really loved how u play it and the editing it's great too, I felt the 80's vibe. Congrats man. Really well played.
You made my night dude
Thanks very much!
Brilliant, really well played Domenic. Really got all the little sounds in there. I heard on the album version they used 2 separate drum tracks (but haven't heard official confirmation - if someone knows the truth) and you did really well to incorporate all of the sounds and make it sound really good! Bravo!
Some overdubs on the ride bell rather than two separate tracks; which sounds like either/or, rather than the additional pings that are present in this arrangement.
Love that bass drum shot, real sweet!
Excellent, love it, great job.
Very nice i wish i could learn to play like you! congrats
Thanks Miguel!
Play everyday for an hour and come back in one year and tell us you can play it.
SUPERB.
one of the best drum covers of any song I have seen.
+Gordon Morrison
Thanks Gordon!
Impresionante maestro!!!!
Just amazing!
man , you are a solid player . pro
Thanks!
absolutely rock solid! loved it, a breakdown would be might useful though.... :)
Flawless. Victory. Outstanding.
Thanks
Simply amazing
Copeland looks really different now, kinda like Sting. But I know my Copeland when I hear him drum, so I guess I must've entered the Twilight Zone somewhere.
I hate it when this happens.
Another guy who thinks I look like Sting...LOL
Domenic is a genuine Superstar, as good if not better than Copeland :-)
Thanks but....I don't even come CLOSE to Copeland :)
Wow is all I can say. Absolutely perfect. Even did the rimshots in between the ride flourishes towards the end. Copeland would be proud if he saw this. He probably has honestly.
Thanks very much King Echo!
You nailed it. Friggin’ awesome. Drums sound fantastic too. Keep it up.
nailed that sweet.
Dammit man.....what a clean cover....nice accents on the hi-hat ...right down to the rim shots at the end...not an easy cover to play...takes a real drummer to play that cover correctly...it's either right or wrong..no in-between....nice work man
Love it, thanks for sharing!
Great work!!!! Awesome
This was so well played, i got goosebumps
Great cover! Lots of energy, I like it.
Simply breathtaking skill and dedication
Thank you! Cheers!
The best cover... You are great
wonderful cover!!!! the best drum cover of this beatiful song
You make it look so easy!!! Great job !
Again Domenic!!! just the way i'ts was recorded, the hit in the ride in between the hihat, even Steward Copeland forgot that when playing in concert....So Glad to find someone who is really listening the songs....Just...Awesome and thank's again Domenic....this is what playing drums is about...
One of the best drum covers ever
Thank you!
Simply perfect Dom ... drumming, sound, video ... and Copeland is a monster drummer for sure!
Loving it xx
Very very nice! I have to learn this for my band and watching you has definitely helped a lot to break it down! Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
Excellent cover. Very nicely done.
That was awesome Domenic!

absolutely incredible! I love your feel to playing and you have matched Stewart Copeland to a tee! Amazing!
Thanks :)
Incredible! Spot-on! Wow, thanks for this awesome lesson.
Thanks very much! Glad you liked it!
Great work. i love the drummer in the police, and you did it great justice.
My whole family loves this song so much, I listen to it every single day
That's awesome!
Domenic, you’re also a master at drums
Im not a drummer, but i play guitar in a band and i loved all the off kilter cymbal snare and tom stuff on the original...which you completely nailed.. great stuff
Thanks very much!
I have watched this 100 times if once , just love this song. Great Cover Domenic thanks for the Post.
LOL!! Thanks for all the views Ronald!
Awesome as usual!
Perfecto! Eres un baterista increible!
Awesome man. You killed it. Great job.
Perfect cover. Wouldn't want it any other way!
Absolutely perfect!!
Thanks! I appreciate the comment!
Fabulous! Tight, smacking grooving beat. Your drum tuning, particularly the snare, kick and cymbals tones work so well with this tune. Love your hi-hat work. This is a tune I've been wanting to cover. Great job Domenic.
Had so much fun watching this video. Very well done. Stewart Copeland is no easy drummer to get and you really do it well!
Whenever I need to look up a drum cover to learn a song for our band and I see one by domenic then thats the only one i need to click, because its always the best!
