Rear spoiler generated enough force to flip backwards, and air under the chassis at speed was enough to send it tumbling. I'm guessing the spoiler damage reduced down-force, making the next run a little faster, but what you really need is down-force on the front tires. If you can put a few slits in the canopy for airflow, I'm sure your ESC will stay nice and comfy. Cheers from the FPV drone RC community.
This video sold me a second hand 144001, ready to re-start my RC journey after playing with a Nikko Chipmunk in my youth. This particular 144001 has already been upgraded with a dumborc X6 remote and X6FG reciever, newer ESC, brushless motor, programmer and 2 good batteries. Also included a Volcraft 50 charger and loads of new sealed spare parts, all for a bargain (€€).
A year ago, this bit of kit was "Too Fast". It still is, just more so? Amazing value for money, and so much powaaaa! Thank you, Ambassador Jeremy Clarkson, for teaching me terms and dramatic pauses.
@@TomleyRC So are the horror stories about parts availability true? I ask because I've been warned my EAT04 will suffer a parts availability crisis, where stock or aftermarket parts disappear, as if overnight. My first car since nitro touring AWDs in the 90's, and definitely my first Chinese brand car, do I need to stock up before Day Zero?
Brilliant, waited a while for part 2 but easily worth it. Looked awesome going around the car park at speed. Don't often see a speed run car doing laps.
I just bought the same parts for the wl 144010, the newer esc they supply wont work on 3s so I decided to buy the upgrades. Greetings from Canada. I had an Xmaxx but I sold it because the costs involved in keeping it running well were very high and I was worried about it hurting someone. This little car is a lot of fun and it doesn't break the bank. The best lipos I have found are from smc racing, they build packs for drag racing.
Mate, the 144001 Car was already Iconic to me, (like the Wltoys K949 that I think you never review... the black version), and now 75 ml/h on 2S... and after an Awesome speed you go and bash with it like it came from the box like that.... it's just insane 👌❤👌 BTW, loved how you protected your drive train after the passes, coasting with a "U" turn👌 About the Mad Van..., well, I think it was there because you're already in love with it 😁❤ In more then 40 years of RC, never thought in putting 2 or 3 HobbyGrades as Shelve Queens ❤😆 Amazing work Phil; as Ever 👌👌👌👌👌

Oh my gosh your poor gps I waited two months for mine that arrived last week. Hands down Phill it is the tool of the trade for accurate readings. I got my Konghead to 18 mph on 3s yesterday . I give your channel a massive shout out in my latest video too.Episode 29 Opening Drag Runs
It's interesting I don't see a tool being used for RC Cars, that is prevalent over with quadcopter camps. Current meters. Usually built into flight controllers, it's the best tool for figuring efficiency, in conjunction with GPS. I have one that goes inline with your Lipo's XT/Deans plug, and shows history and peak draw - it would be perfect to put onboard during GPS runs, so you can gauge whether a taller/shorter pinion is in order. $20 well spent for my wheeled fleet
Your 100% right about these little things dude! Best car for the money and one of the most durable too. I've crashed mine at over 100mph many times now and broken almost nothing 🤣 the fact that the stock diffs and shafts take all that power is nuts! My favourite RC for the money without a doubt! Great video man I hope you do more like this 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I managed to buy a brand new stock one for £72 then got a 60amp esc and a 4370kv combo for £25 of banggood, I had a transmitter n receiver (fly sky GT2B) n bought some foams n got a phat turbo body shell for £8 so about £120 all in and sold the stock body n motor etc for £20 so I came in at just over £100 for a little 60-70mph speed run car on 2s and she’s still in great nick so it can be done ✅ good video to tell people they can build a speed run car for around a £100 great tips coz I learnt how to do mine of all you guys 😎🙏
I think these cars were designed from the ground up to be speed machines. They come stock with a 550 sized motor which is perfect for a massive brushless motor, They are heavy and can hold a big battery as well. Also the gearing on them is quite tall out of the box.
Buy the brushless version the Tacon Soar. It is so much better quality. It is what Wltoys copied and made it brushed and with low quality parts. All I did to my Tacon Soar was change the connector to deans and program the ESC for Lipo and it is very quick and fun. It also does not have the range issue that the WLtoys have.
You need ceramic bearings and you will probably need a front splitter and a body that covers the wheels because at that speed, aero can get you a lot faster and more stable
Yup speed running isn't cheap is it once you start crashing and you will, get them parts ordered , best upgrade for these I reckon is the steel diff and planetary gears oh and motor mounts I've never managed to remove the stock ones even with heat the screw's still sheared off , but man are they fun when they are on it as this video shows they do take a beating , great video Phil , more of the same buddy
Great video. I’m particularly interested in the motor and ESC combo you used - I was thinking they would go well together. Do you think they would work well as a sensor Ed combination, possibly higher turns than you used here, for a 1:10 kit like a kyosho? Would be much cheaper than hobbywing sensored combo.
I have that same battery in the 2S and 3S variants. GREAT BATTERIES!! If you find the CNHL MiniStar batteries, they are 120c. I've used CNHL batteries for quite some time from my days of flying FPV race drones. Definitely the best bang per buck out there.
Try 3100 KV platinum motor from surpass hobby + 120 amp ESC 10BL120 from hobbywing + 3S big battery: Extreme acceleration + extreme breaking and nothing get hot + Top speed over 120 Km/h ! Then ad a front wing mounted on a front bumper and it will take 3G in fast corners using motorcycle chain wax on foam tires. Very fun when you hate speed runs and prefer the big supermarket parking lots.
Hey man, I’m currently doing this same exact motor, esc build into the haiboxing 1:18 scale or I’m going to atleast try. I could really use your help. I have a couple questions.
