Not sure why this video was on my recommendations as I've never had an RC car or had any interest in them. I now want one of these for me and my son. Well done RUclips algorithm 😂
they DO focus too much on top speed for sales, at the expense of motor and ESC failures. its good practice to use a 2-3 tooth smaller pinion gear and put a heat sink onto the tops of the MOSFETS of their stock ESC's, if you want them to live for a while. its much better to give up some top speed in favor of snappier acceleration AND pulling less current through the battery+motor+ESC, especially if you're going to run a shorter course dirt track racing. quickness exiting one turn down a straight then entering the next turn is more important (lower lap times too) than top speed it'd never reach in a short straight-away. even if there is ONE long straight section, the quicker jams through all the short sections will get the lower lap times... its a lower top speed yes, but it reaches that top speed in a shorter distance, is much more advantageous on a short track, more fun for just bashing around because it'll also run a couple minutes longer on a charge. FAST is fun but there is a point where more of the power is just wasted making HEAT, with efficiency going right down the toilet. epoxy insulation of motor windings can burn away to short out causing ESC failure, battery pack over-heating, and heat also bakes out the strength of the motor's magnets.... way back when, running the jagged edge to go fast, we had "motor zappers". big electromagnets to restore the motor magnets field strength. put the motor in it, switch it on and let it run overnight to give the motor its torque back. on road oval racing 4 minute races we'd set up for the pack being DRAINED in 5 minutes was really hellish on battery packs, so hot you couldn't hold one with a firm grip. even the best NiCad's didn't like having 40+ amps yanked out of them. it was even worse with some of the 6-7-8 cell scratch built hydroplane boats I used to race, a race was only two minutes where pack fully drained in 3. water cooling coil around the motor, an air scoop pushing air directly into the motor's brushes trying to keep THEM cooler... crazy fun like that did get expensive!

Cheers mate. Glad it arrived ok! I actually had 2 bodies for this, first one was green and black, but I didn’t like it... so went red to match the shocks and the motor 😎👍
I did something similar to a 1/10th ECX 2wd Circuit. 5200kv, 120a esc, 15t pinion, on 3s. Better shocks, wheels/tires, servo and servo saver eliminator. What a blast it is to drive! SO much fun being able to power oversteer at will on tarmac, and crazy crazy power. The only enemy is heat. The motor gets HOT quickly if I'm not careful.

Thanks, I’m going brushless now🏎💥 By the way, I’ve been using both ESC’s in this video in my other trucks, and while the dirt cheap one does not look like much it performs pretty good. It’s a copy of the Hobbywing Xerun 120A, which means that you can buy an usb adapter, got mine from Hobbyking at 6$, and program the ESC on your PC. There’s a load of settings, like 9 levels of punch(default is 7), drag brake force and other goodies, which is far more advanced than the Surplus ESC from banggood. Furthermore, both my 60A and 120A Surplus ESC’s add turboboost and jumps to 100% power, when you reach about 75% throttle. Pretty scary for highspeed runs and it also sucks a bit on the racetrack in the corners on power. The ESC you went with is not the best quality but for the price it’s the most adjustable. The main reason they burn up, is because the fan can only handle 2S voltage. So when you stick a 3S in the truck, the fan dies real quick and then the ESC doesn’t stand a chance. The solution is to unplug the fan and power it from the reciever, so it never gets more than 6V. It can also be programmed via the setup button without a program card, just look in the Hobbywing Xerun manual. Lastly, it is not waterproof, really not waterproof at all, not the slightest, especially around the setup and on/off switch, and you have to zip tie the cap pack, unless you’re ok with it bouncing around until the solder joints break.
yup, they're VERY progammable, you can set up current vs time too so it'll ramp up to full power at 1 to 1.5 seconds in ms time increments you set. very cool if you're setting up a little dragster, more control over how it'll launch.
Ordered May 27th, arrived June 19th 😎👍. Also just been refunded £47 for a Servo that never arrived. Yes they have their moments, but they are no worse than any other Chinese supplier
@@TomleyRC yea you can also just ask for parts from them the normal customer cant and ive been waiting for 4 months on a rc boat and every time I contact customer support I get the same generic messages
Seth Taylor No strictly true. The customer service/after sales side of things is nothing to do with the affiliate side. I get no special treatment other than RCs/Parts sent for review. I still have to jump through the same hoops everyone else does when things go wrong.
yup... they do NOT have "hobby people" to handle hobby related stuff, at all! same today as it was 4 years ago, is why I usually avoid anything BangGood. their Q+A section, without me getting foul just asking real questions they cannot EVER answer beyond "this only fit this!".... for quite a while I was BANNED from their site for THEIR inability to cope, I'm not joking. was me who found older WLtoys receivers will bind perfectly to the older FlySky transmitters... we went around and around for a couple months over that, because they DON'T have "hobby people" who can and WILL try doing things like that. "how tall are these tires in mm?" they don't have a darn ruler to measure with?! "do the beads on these tires fit a typical 1/24 1.0 beadlock rim?" they cannot give an answer beyond "it only fit this!".... as I think "FOAD already you braindead (bleeeeeep!)"
You got all the right ingredients for a 80mph build defo 😁👌🏾 these buggies are a blast to speed run. And the Phat bodies are perfect for these buggies. Look forward to seeing some runs 💯 nice video 👊🏽 P.S I wouldn't use that cheap 120amp I had 2 and both blown in 1/10 hsp after few uses but might be ok in lighter buggy. Or if you can take fan off and change it you could fit the better one you have. And if you can get straight flat center brace it's better for mounting esc and batteries fit better. All so longer body post help loads I use 1/10 straight body post. 😁😉👌🏾
I'm an RC noobie. I want to get this for my first car. I wont be doing any modifications right away. How is it "as is"/out of the box? Is this a good first car? can it reach 60 km/h as it says? does it work on grass or only on pavement mostly? Thanks for any replies.
its 120A peak and for only 3/4 second or so. they can barely handle a real 3650 size motor, but pretty good for a 2835-2840 size, they're OK for a lower wattage 3650 too after some programming.
The internals of them are 85Amp, but advertised as 120A. As long as your motor is not pulling more than 85A, you will be fine. I have had one for 2 years paired with 50A motor without any problem, running very cool on temps even on 3S.
Hey Phil, did the 3S brushless runs ever happen?? Can't find it on your channel. Also wondering if it might actually reach a higher top speed with the original tyres, being slightly larger and also the gearing up effect of ballooning. Dave
Pretty fantastic little car, dude! Great testing!!! 😃 But I guess you're going to have to fit the big esc in there... At least I suspect you're going to... So... Good luck! 😬 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I read down lower that you'll use a different esc before trying 3s. I'm wondering if a good old Hobbywing 10BL120 would do the job - It's certainly smaller than that monstrous thing BG sent you. (What the hell were they thinking?!?)
BangGood and think are two words that will never go together! years later now, they STILL do not have "hobby people" on their staff. you'll find they can't ever answer ANY specific questions about anything, what you get for a reply is "it fit only this". they literally don't know a display stand from landing gear for an RC model aircraft. same thing for GearBest, there are some nice deals to be had but their customer support SUCKS!
yup, those cheapo 120A brushless ESC can barely handle a 3650 size motor. the cheapo 3650 motors with the heat sink fins cut into the casing are a 2845 armature inside them with a 3.2 mm (1/8") shaft, same blue color aluminum. pairing them up isn't so bad, but its not a real 3650 either lol.
I owe you an apology - sorry. You do discuss the difficulty getting screws out. And to be fair, if heat is applied with a torch long enough to cook the epoxy they have used with the screws, they do come out. Also - for anyone interested, I blew the stock esc running 3S. Then I installed a Rocket 4.5T 7700kv motor and blew a Hobbywing 10BL60 esc. I am waiting on a 10BL120 and a Rocket TS160V2 esc for a shot at 3S with 120 or 160amps of current. In the meantime I installed a spare HobbyWing Fusion 1800kv motor and cannot believe how much fun it is with that motor/esc combo. The FOC crawler motor makes it nimble in the house at super slow speeds, and a torque monster on the road on 3S. SO FUN!!!! I might just try a Hobbywing 3300Kv AXE motor for a high one and see what the thing is like with double the power running and FOC setup... :)
I went a slightly different route. I did a 2845 3930kv brushless. I kept the stock gears. I was interested in what this combo would do since I hadn’t seen anyone go with a smaller motor. I was curious what the run times would be like. I haven’t had time for run times yet but it’s doing 45 mph on 2s. Thanks for your time on this. Have a great day and be safe out there! Cheers.
Tomley RC I thought so and that’s on a 35a ESC so there might be a little more. The ESC is rated for 3s so I’ll try that as well. Be safe my friend! Cheers!
really great choice there, a little higher top speed and likely 20-25% longer run time too if not constantly flailing it. dropped a 2840 5000kv into my OLD Graupner Cobra boat, lots faster than it was with a 32k rpm 16D brushed motor. using a cheaper water cooled 50A brushless ESC and a cooling coil on the motor, feeding it with 3000mah 6 cell NiMh rated for 15C (45A) output. know it'll do a little better running 7.4v+ of 2000-3000mah LiPo... would take a little weight off it same time voltage+current get bumped up a little.
Not on that...but I have 2845 3300 and 60 amp ocday esc in 1/12 fyo3 or Kt12 The fy03 has stock metal ..Kt 12 has plastic part. I got redcat blackout brushless and volcano brushless for $110 I get used 1/8 nitro buggie for under $100...slapp 4076 2200kv ( $35) 120A 4s ocady ( $30) 4s 50C it'll do 50-55 mph easy..depending how i gear it and what wheel ( $200 average ...but they're Hobbie grade...rc8..lois..XTM..or extend kingmotor... got side tracked...I upgrade the kiddies powerwheels with 48V 2000watt brushless, now..lmao ( it'll do 15-20 mph....depend how i gear it) You need a CRAP load of BATTERIES.lmao my grand is only 4 years old...He's powersliding and doing donuts i have the 2 year old on 5s 50 C lipo....it'll do 12-15 mph becuase she's lite. you all still messing with kiddie stuff.... Hi mate. Did you have on/off in your ESC? I didn't and did a reclamation about it. Received a new ESC with on/off (even tho I will not going to be using it.)
Hi Tomley. I just tried click the link for the brushless motor but it is not available in Banggood anymore. Do you recall which brand & model was it? Thank you.
I've got on with that blue ESC on 2s just fine but the second you plug a 3s in they seem to burn out no matter how powerful the motor is. In fact, mine burnt out on 3s after the truck had been parked up for about 5 minutes doing nothing. No load on it whatsoever. I think there's just something inside that isn't suited to the voltage even when it hasn't got any current going through it. For the price they cost, they aren't a bad unit for 2s and lower KV motors and the sensored mode is a nice bonus. I prefer the Hobbyking 120a though, it's very similar but handles 3s ok. I guess it does a better job of copying the Hobbywing lol.
I know NOTHING about rc cars, fir some reason RUclips recommended me this and straight away I'm hooked lol I want one and I will be buying one next payday for sure. Obviously I was lost with all the technical terms,2s and 3s and esc ( is that right ?) Etc ,so can anyone recommend a good first car that won't break the bank that can just be driven straight out the box as I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to changing the motor and other bits and pieces he was changing Oh and what is the esc please ?
what is that 1/14th scale? anything over 30 mph is isane...since 30mph is basically a full size car doing 430 mph! which is 4 times faster then they go on a dirt track in real life... and kids wonder why these break when they hit a curb...my first rc car from radio shack in the 70's top speed was 5 mph and it cost $35... i thought it was incredible...
Yeah, that motor is a beast... 60A OCDay ESC works fine on 2S and 3S. Mine has pushed a RedCat crawler to stupid speeds with no trouble at all, along with a truly stupid TT-02 run (coming soon to a channel near you)
This seems very fun...I always wanted to start this hobby....and think it's a nice thing me and my son can do...do you think this is a good one to start off with? I see you replaced the entire core of it....but I've been doing some research and I see people complain about the range...can this be solved
Ya know what? It is a lot more fun twisting and turning and sliding than simple high speed. Like driving a MG sports car in the mountains vs. a dragster down a strip. The best Fun Per Buck I have found is the WLToys 979.

Good info here mate.... cheers 👍🏻
See if that monster esc will fit in the beetle!
That's funny I was just thinking the same thing
That's a Surpass Hobby King Kong ESC..It runs 2s-4s
Awesome work! Looks great, hope it holds up!
All good here in ohio.Great review cool little car.Stay Safe Stay Healthy
Thanks Mark

Thanks dude
Bang goods shipping and customer support is terrible and not worth the hassle have fun waiting 4 months or more for an item
@@modelnutty6503 agreed its just nonsense with them
You got all the right ingredients for a 80mph build defo 😁👌🏾 these buggies are a blast to speed run. 😁😉👌🏾
Thanks mate. I've seen a few of your runs... some crazy speeds there! Cheers for the tips ;)
I'm an RC noobie. I want to get this for my first car. I wont be doing any modifications right away. How is it "as is"/out of the box? Is this a good first car? can it reach 60 km/h as it says? does it work on grass or only on pavement mostly? Thanks for any replies.
30mph out the box, really good on all surfaces
I was hoping you'd run the bigger esc and have the heatsink and fan poking out through a hole in the body. That'd looks badass:)
Haha... didn’t want to cut my body :)
@@TomleyRC it would look so sweet though.
My wltoys 144001 stock brushed 550 3s 74kmh
Fast!
Those tsky 120a esc's are so bad. I've burnt through 3 already
Yeah... I’ve seen a few on fire 🔥
its 120A peak and for only 3/4 second or so. they can barely handle a real 3650 size motor, but pretty good for a 2835-2840 size, they're OK for a lower wattage 3650 too after some programming.
Dave
I'm just waiting to get out to a larger run area....hopefully a couple if weeks from now. The stock tyres balloon way to much and make it unstable.
Pretty fantastic little car, dude! Great testing!!! 😃
But I guess you're going to have to fit the big esc in there... At least I suspect you're going to... So... Good luck! 😬
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Not sure that big one will fit lol... I have a couple of other options 👍🏻
Great Build... 52 mph 😳
Thank you
I use that esc in my 1/10 carisma with a 3700kv motor, ran it on 3s and I’ve had no issues so far, don’t think it’ll last long though
Good to know mate
I got one of them esc s in a bundle havent tried it yet
Melmski Lemz yeah they are alright mate, don’t know if they will last years but they work alright
I had the exact same motor and it became D bonded at 70 degrees Celsius there's been nothing but problems with those Motors
Mine have been fine
@@TomleyRC that's so weird both of mine crapped out.
Looking forward too!! 👍👍 , 3s,,
I read down lower that you'll use a different esc before trying 3s. I'm wondering if a good old Hobbywing 10BL120 would do the job - It's certainly smaller than that monstrous thing BG sent you. (What the hell were they thinking?!?)
BangGood and think are two words that will never go together!
years later now, they STILL do not have "hobby people" on their staff.
you'll find they can't ever answer ANY specific questions about anything,
what you get for a reply is "it fit only this". they literally don't know a display stand from landing gear for an RC model aircraft. same thing for GearBest, there are some nice deals to be had but their customer support SUCKS!
Yes... need to get a better ESC. It want Banggood’s fault... I asked for it without checking the specs lol
great video, thanks, planning on upgrading mine to brushless with the foam tyres, so this is really useful.
I was looking at the gas powered remote control car is this a legit company to order off of I'm in the US
I’ve ordered a lot from them. Great people
@@Toohightoplaygaming awesome thanks so much
I ordered some replacement strut towers, and they were the brushed metal color.
I burned two of them up one lasted 20 minutes the next one smoked as soon as I plugged in a 2s.
Just take it as a sign, the universe wants you to do a brush less upgrade
Shame... but I’m sure it’s the newer ESC that’s the trouble. My original one is still all good 👍🏻
yup, those cheapo 120A brushless ESC can barely handle a 3650 size motor.
the cheapo 3650 motors with the heat sink fins cut into the casing are a 2845 armature inside them with a 3.2 mm (1/8") shaft, same blue color aluminum. pairing them up isn't so bad, but its not a real 3650 either lol.
what gps device are u using it for speed test?
Link in the description. SkyRC GSM020
May i know the chrome window sticker u diy ?
I cut myself from vinyl
LOL what a joke they bumped the price of this truck so much. These 2 batteries aren't worth the $40 bump in price
The old single battery one is still a good price 👍🏻
Phil - quick one. The metal servo - does it fit the standard bracket or did you make some new fittings to the chassis?
Fits straight on mate 👍🏻
Tomley RC much obliged 👍
2 out of 3 of those cheap 120a esc cought on fire and the 3rd one worked for 5 seconds. On 2s. Good video, foams are great tires
Thanks Billy. I've heard a few horror stories, yet to try mine on 3s!
@@TomleyRC I'm glad someone is finally having good luck with it. I don't know if I'd push it on 3s though.
Deffo looked cooler with the fat body👍
Cheers.
45 is good for that small motor 😎👍
Not on that...but I have 2845 3300 and 60 amp ocday esc in 1/12 fyo3 or Kt12
The fy03 has stock metal ..Kt 12 has plastic part.
I got redcat blackout brushless and volcano brushless for $110
I get used 1/8 nitro buggie for under $100...slapp 4076 2200kv ( $35) 120A 4s ocady ( $30) 4s 50C it'll do 50-55 mph easy..depending how i gear it and what wheel ( $200 average ...but they're Hobbie grade...rc8..lois..XTM..or extend
kingmotor...
got side tracked...I upgrade the kiddies powerwheels with 48V 2000watt brushless, now..lmao ( it'll do 15-20 mph....depend how i gear it)
You need a CRAP load of BATTERIES.lmao
my grand is only 4 years old...He's powersliding and doing donuts
i have the 2 year old on 5s 50 C lipo....it'll do 12-15 mph becuase she's lite.
you all still messing with kiddie stuff....
I'll have to build a 60-72v gokart in about a year. when he truns 5..lol
Hi mate. Did you have on/off in your ESC? I didn't and did a reclamation about it. Received a new ESC with on/off (even tho I will not going to be using it.)
Do you mean the one I used, or the big Surpass hobby one? The one on this came with one yes
@@TomleyRC Yes. I meant the wltoys supplied one. Mine didn't have on/off so they sent me a new one FoC.
oh..ok, I didn't even look at this one as I took it straight out
@@TomleyRC yeah. I'm still waiting for esc and motor to arrive so I needed it.
Is the gyro something you've added
Yes, built in to the reciever
How dow you measure the speed of your rc cars?
SkyRC GSM020. Should be a link in the description
How do you connect the motor to the receiver?
Via the ESC
great video mate the blue esc i have them in most of my cars 2and 3s no problem yet but that dont mean its not going to happen😂👊😎😊🇬🇧👍
Yeah...i think the motor will not help the situation on this one lol.. takes quite a load!
Hi Tomley. I just tried click the link for the brushless motor but it is not available in Banggood anymore. Do you recall which brand & model was it? Thank you.
Wow fantastic rc car my friend👌👌👌
Thank you
put grease in diffs mate :D
red and tacky
Yes...I'd read some reviews on it before buying. I'd never intended on using it in this... but will avoid 3s until i get a different one!
yes. mine was burned at 3s with no loud. just testing and mosfets gone.
they are junk.
What the apps you use for check the speed?
SkyRC, check the description
I know NOTHING about rc cars, fir some reason RUclips recommended me this and straight away I'm hooked lol I want one and I will be buying one next payday for sure.
Obviously I was lost with all the technical terms,2s and 3s and esc ( is that right ?) Etc ,so can anyone recommend a good first car that won't break the bank that can just be driven straight out the box as I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to changing the motor and other bits and pieces he was changing
Oh and what is the esc please ?
Couldn’t make it to the end, cheers wankers
If you keep practicing, you should be able to last 19mins.... The girls will love it 😉👍
what is that 1/14th scale? anything over 30 mph is isane...since 30mph is basically a full size car doing 430 mph! which is 4 times faster then they go on a dirt track in real life... and kids wonder why these break when they hit a curb...my first rc car from radio shack in the 70's top speed was 5 mph and it cost $35... i thought it was incredible...
I upgraded to a brushless kit...but .mine always looses frequency and goes off a and crashes...like my 4th time fixing it...
I have a question for you, I recently bought a Mjx Hyper go 16209. Are there any sites that sells upgrades?
Every time you say Fiddle about’ you should cut to Keith Moon as Uncle Ernie in The Who rock opera Tommy! Fiddle About Fiddle About!!!!
Thanks for showing us how to do the same ,now we have our new project...
Subbed. Very interesting vid.
Thank you
Yeah, that motor is a beast...
I have 2 of these, this is build specifically for speed but I’m also a big fan of ‘twisting & turning 😉👍
Hang about, you’re in Pennels car park, north hykeham?😎
😎🤟

Found it in my spares bin. But heard that LC Racing do one that fits
What 3s battery can I buy on Amazon that will fit?! Im new to this lol thanks
Hello mate i really want to get the same motor and esc as you and put it into this car will i be able to use the ZOP Power 1000mAh 3S 11.1V 70c Lipo Battery on it or will mess it up?
I think the max length is about 100mm... so worth checking the size of the Zop
Those 2 esc 's you have there can take only up to 3s I would dare do 4 s no iv fryed them on 4s trying lol
Is that a mario in a car on the shelf?
Yes, I have a video of it. Brushless ;)
Oh my!!!! Be still my beating RC heart. ....That 144001 gave me many a MIGRAINE, horrible time with shit going wrong with it, from the get go. Everything from wheels flying off, coz the nuts came loose, ESC trouble, camber problems, knuckles breaking, bending shock towers, it just goes on and on. STILL LOVED it while it ran. I'm gonna probably get another unit later on, when I can do the upgrades upon purchase before running it. That's the ticket Gov, THE epic RC buggy with quite a reputation, 'eh????...😁👍💯
I have heard lots of bad stories on the 144. But my experience has been good so far 👍🏻 Cheers for watching dude
