I’m reading through the comments, and I think it’s important for people to remember that this is a big addition for them. These coasters cost a lot of money for a SMALL park. Plus, park officials must have actually liked the Free Spins for themselves if they decided to pick this over other models in the same price range. I mean a Raptor costs about the same amount as this will cost, and those are just as gimmicky and marketable as a Free Spin. It would definitely be disappointing if a ride like this was announced at a major park, but this is a small, family owned theme park. Just be happy it wasn’t replaced by an SBF Spinner

If they really are relatively the same cost as each other, it’s a really horribly disappointing choice to choose an S&S free spin over a Raptor.
@@robkatzberg38 Totally agree - Raptors are NOT A GIMMICK. They are LOVED and made specifically for smaller parks and to take advantage of terrain or small spaces. The amount of thrills in the SAME space from a Free Spin v. Raptor is not even on the same level. I do not think this ride is worthy of the name "Dragon Slayer" at all as all it did was get Dragon torn down. I think the public will want a terrain coaster back once they ride this spinny lame garbage.

With Adventureland as my home park, I'm a little dissapointed with an SnS 4D coaster, as you can find it at almost every major theme park, but I've never been on one. Who knows, it might blow me out of the water and it is a great family coaster to have. I think Adventureland will add another coaster taking up the rest of the area "The Dragon" occupied in 2023, to compete with Lost Island opening it's themepark.
Adventureland is also my home park and you don't know how bad I wanted something else but, I am still excited because we didn't get any coaster for like 20 years
I use to live in Des Moines. This is a fantastic fit for this park. If Adventureland sees a payoff in continued expansion it will eventually get some new stand out coaster that beats The Monster. So this is all good news. And by the way, 4D free spins are actually really fun. They're an excellent thing to have at your home park because they are smooth and very re-ridable. The flipping always changes too so it makes it more exciting and you can occasional have an insane ride. That being said, every once and a while you might not flip at all and that sucks. But they are excellent supporting coasters and they're a great use of space.
I actually like this coaster better then six flags’s S&S freespins...only because 1.it has an original name, not the same names like joker and Batman... 2.they aren’t six flags, so if they invest in a bit more money they could add some actual decent theming and make it a better freespin then all of six flags’s freespins... So all in all I like this addition...sure they need better, but it’s still good, nice vid 👍
My guess is the plan all along was to add the 4DFS this year, but also to keep running Dragon for another few seasons. That way, it could have a more conventional removal (announcement, last rides, etc.) while hyping the (hopefully) new coaster along the way. Then something happened to Dragon that made it impractical to keep running, so instead of waiting a few years to implement the Dragon Slayer theme, they slapped it on this. A 4DFS by itself is a good addition, especially if they were considering space limitations with an operating Dragon. Unfortunately, now the narrative among enthusiasts is that the park is getting a somewhat underwhelming replacement instead of a solid standalone ride. I agree that it comes off as a little lackluster, but if it's correct that Dragon's removal wasn't planned for now, they can't just bump up a coaster that's part of an extended plan. Manufacturers wouldn't be able to just drop everything and crank something out, especially for a park like Adventureland. I'm reserving judgment on this until I see what the next coaster is (which I assume would have been Dragon's true intended replacement). If it's awesome, I will consider the whole thing a success. If it's not (another clone or no legit coasters in the next 5 years or so), then I will look back on these moves with disappointment. For now, they get the benefit of the doubt.
That's simply not possible, the suspected location is where Dragon's figure-eight was. Dragon HAD to be removed for this, look at the picture shown at 4:23 and you'll see that it's not physically possible for the park to have both Dragon and Dragon Slayer at the same time.

I think Adventureland is finally stepping up their game because it now will have to compete with the brand new lost island expansion! Lost island is adding a 100 million dollar theme park to their already expansive water park, so now after YEARS of the same rides at Adventureland they will have to expand them!
I think it's a very good fit. S&S 4D free spins suffer from the same enthusiast fatigue that the Batman clones (the B&M invert type) suffer from. They are actually excellent coasters but they aren't a reason to travel if you've already been on one. So enthusiasts complain about them unfairly when they are actually a lot of fun and very re-ridable, especially since the flipping changes each time. My only issue with them is that I wish they would get more creative with the layouts and maybe add a drop like you see on some of the European zac spins. And certainly adding variety is always fun but you have to be realistic with your expectations, especially for smaller parks. I'm guessing that most of the people complaining haven't spent a lot of time at Adventureland and don't really know what the park actually needs for its line up.
My issue with free spins is that it *feels* like a flat ride. Yes, it's fun, but going on a zipper feels about the same and the ride lasts longer. But good for them being a small park and getting a new coaster, they have a pretty decent collection for such a independent park.
Even though I am not a fan of these coasters, like others have been saying, at least it isn't The Dragon. And I am super excited to see what else they will fit into the empty area of the park. With their expansions and the new park coming to Waterloo, we are going to have a nice lineup in Iowa!
It kills me that they would choose a freespin, which costs around 7 million when Lech Coaster's pricetag was just under 5 mill. A Bermuda Blitz would have been a beyond perfect successor.
The $5 million figure for Lech Coaster is not correct and I'm not sure why that number continues to be spread around. It was over 12 million Euros ($13.5 million.) And Vekoma would need to contract in order to perform construction in the USA which would drive the cost up further. A $7 million coaster is much more reasonable for Adventureland and the 4D free spin is a good use of land. Don't worry, they'll get another original coaster at some point, provided that the world can eventually get back to normal.
Honestly I didn’t expect this at Adventureland but I think this a great addition!! It’s definitely extremely unique for the park. It’s a great park and I’ve rode Dragon, it is a brutal ride and an S&S 4D Free spin would be a good replacement honestly.
So personally, I love Freespins IF the park doesn’t skimp out on more of the magnetic fins. Some of the Six Flags Free Spins don’t have all the of the available spins and that’s why some of them just kinda rock back and forth sometimes, which is the only times I don’t like them. Arashi at Nagashima Spa Land has all the fins and it’s balls to the wall crazy and fun. So I’m very excited for this addition and I would’ve thought that ANYTHING would have been an improvement over Dragon. I really am though so surprised that this came so suddenly.
Also, what they could do its put a Mack Power Splash into the lagoon, deepened upon the public reception of Aquaman at Over Texas. A small park like this would love to have a major ride, but instead of shelling out 15 to 20 million on one ride, spreading the money across multiple attractions across two to five years is better for the park. This ride alone will be a able to pull more people from outside Iowa, and soon in a few years, we may see them put a 15-20 million dollar coaster here. Now the biggest question is, are they doing this to have more room for a ride to eventually replace Tornado, since they already have The Outlaw.
Tornado is in pretty good shape for being 42 years old. I don’t see them ever truly removing it, but a full rehab/retrack or rmc treatment is possible.
There's going to be a lot of leftover Footers from the other coaster the dragon in the lagoon and all over the place this usually is what happens when a coaster is removed and not replaced with anything as big
My family and I go here every year or so and seeing this being added for a FAMILY business is huge, I can’t wait until it opens, it’s gonna be a good ride I can already tell
Went on it yesterday. My son is a bodybuilder so he's really heavy. About 100 pounds heavier than me. We flipped more than the people across from us. At one point we flipped 6 to 8 times in a row. It was awesome.
Guys in 2023 will be Adventureland's 50th year anniversary of starting construction. All I want is a compact launch coaster in dragons spot. Now, keep in mind it is possible to put a launch coaster, because I did it in planet coaster. I would love if they named it Lagoon Run or something like that!
I doubt a new log ride would be put in that spot. The lagoon is a retainer body of water to prevent flooding throughout the park. Another coaster could definitely go there. But a log flume would disrupt the overall structure of the lagoon.
Adventureland is like those movies where you have a charismatic humble guy living in a small town and then one day hits his head and realizes that he used to be an international spy and then all hell breaks loose.
I’m happy with them adding it just kinda sad to see the dragon go. It was the first roller coaster I ever rode so I hope they do something cool like kings island did with son of beast that way it’s always remembered at the park
I live about an hour and a half from Adventureland. I love thrill rides but wooden coasters give me migraines and the dragon was painful to ride. The Monster is definitely my favorite ride there. I know a lot of people want a new water themed ride but I highly doubt they will build one. They have an adjacent water park if you want to get wet. They would be better off building another steel coaster. I'm excited for Dragon Slayer. Next they need to nix Tornado and Outlaw!
Definitely keep an eye on Adventureland. I just went there on Sunday and they had relocated the circus tent to a different area, leaving lots of empty space that would be large enough for a great new coaster. It would fun if they bring a log ride back. I don't think they'll do a river rapids in the area by the lagoon because they already have one in another section of the park. I would love to see a Raptor at Adventureland in the future.
Adventureland has such a great opportunity to keep its home base right now. With the available area left over after Dragon Slayer's construction, how dope would it be to then construct "Rise of Dragon" in that area? Idk how much Adventureland has on their credit line, but that seems like a best case scenario for this hidden gem in the heartland. As for what type of coaster that could be, I doubt their base populous would be disappointed.
Isn't it a coincidence that this park is getting built up at the same time as Lost Island is getting national rankings? Is it also a coincidence that Lost Island is building a theme park at the same time Adventureland is building up? The circle of life.
The Dragon was one of the reasons I went to Adventureland. Removing it kind made me feel betrayed. The only way to make it up it another coast just like The Dragon, but a little longer. Removing The Dragon is driving me away. The mockup you showed of the possible replacement makes me resent the decision more. The Dragon was the best roller coaster Adventureland had. I still remember when it was new - when Dragon Island was just added. Basically - I want The Dragon back. Calling the new one The Dragon Slayer just reminds us that they killed The Dragon. Betraying the loyal customers and fans is the current trend. I may or may not be back to Adventureland because of this. I'll go to Valleyfair. The Corkscrew is close enough, but it's not the same.
A letdown for enthusiasts, but you can’t really blame them for adding it. Hopefully it drives the numbers up and they can have similar 5 year stretches in the future!
Well thats a lame trade off..... I was hoping it was an RMC Raptor, or small modern Vekoma, maybe a Premiere Rides Sky Rocket 2 or even an S&S El Loco. Oh well, thats their choice.
As a iowan I think that it’s kind of crappy not gonna lie. This roller coaster was a staple for me when I was younger and it was a staple for the TV ad as well. seeing it when I was younger, made me fall in love with roller coasters. And every time I rode it, I felt that nostalgia. With its intense double inversion the made you gray out to a 4d free spin… just my opinion
Dragon probably got removed because I heard from an insider that worked at Adventureland that a chains snapped on one of the costers and two separate cards were going instead of one
Dragon was jank, last I rode it (Summer 2018) it jerked your head around like crazy and felt really unstable. It was old. Tornado's gotta stay though, it's consistently been a good experience for me.
Damn, I’m kind of sad they removed the Dragon, sure it almost gave me a concussion multiple times but still Also there’s NO way they’re adding a river rapids ride now that we’ve seen another accident at the park with the water ride. Since they’ll probably get sued for millions I highly doubt we’ll get anything soln
Id definitely like to see another water ride in place of the larger area the dragon took up, but we've already got the raging river, so unless they were to build another type of log ride, I don't see many options. I'm definitely gonna miss the dragon though
It's not too bad. It's a decent ride but I'd really love to see them expand over the lagoon. It just kinda sucks that the water rides here have always had a history of being painful and less than safe 😂 then again I'm the size of a damn troll so that may have something to do with it
I havent been to Adventureland since I was 11. However I don't know how to feel about The Dragon. I am excited for it, but im also worried that it wont be as well received. In the end, just have to wait and find out.
So on one of the rides me and my sibling saw the parts for the log ride in an area off to the side so it is very likely the log ride might return in the lagoon area
I helped in building the electronics room and soon to be building the entrance they are both Castle themed. I'm not a huge fan of these rides but I do think they could have picked a better spot to put this ride.
I wish they went for a custom version instead of a clone. At least monster was custom. But it could be custom for all we know. Like taller or faster etc

Also....for decades, Adventureland has followed Worlds of Fun and Six Flags St. Louis five PLUS years later getting their version of the hot new trendy ride. These last few years; however, Adventureland has been getting things "coasters" NEW to the region.
That's true, their last three coasters have all been very unique (besides maybe the Freespin being about 5 hours away). I think that's a great strategy for growth.
I guess it's unique to the area but personally, it doesn't live up to the dragon. I think maybe a custom RMC raptor or even a jersey devil clone would have been preferable. Still I understand where they are coming from.

Honestly we have one at the park at six flags grate Amarica its not the best unless the park and its crew members calculate the weight of the riders the spins dont really spin at all unless worked well by the operator as i mentioned.
So... they're replacing a coaster with a flat ride. I don't care what either S&S or RCDB calls them. They aren't coasters to me. I'd rather have the Hopkins looper still.
Dragons station/queue has been occupied by three other rides throughout adventureland history, so they don’t seem very eager to get rid of that building. Pretty much any coaster with two across seating would fit nicely in it

They're adding coasters at a 2-3 year clip, so I would not be surprised at all to see a new coaster in that spot in 2023 or 2024.

There's going to be a lot of leftover Footers from the other coaster the dragon in the lagoon and all over the place this usually is what happens when a coaster is removed and not replaced with anything as big
My family and I go here every year or so and seeing this being added for a FAMILY business is huge, I can’t wait until it opens, it’s gonna be a good ride I can already tell
Went on it yesterday. My son is a bodybuilder so he's really heavy. About 100 pounds heavier than me. We flipped more than the people across from us. At one point we flipped 6 to 8 times in a row. It was awesome.
Guys in 2023 will be Adventureland's 50th year anniversary of starting construction. All I want is a compact launch coaster in dragons spot. Now, keep in mind it is possible to put a launch coaster, because I did it in planet coaster. I would love if they named it Lagoon Run or something like that!

I doubt a new log ride would be put in that spot. The lagoon is a retainer body of water to prevent flooding throughout the park. Another coaster could definitely go there. But a log flume would disrupt the overall structure of the lagoon.
I don’t think it will be water ride like the raging river bc we already have one maybe something more like the log ride

I’m happy with them adding it just kinda sad to see the dragon go. It was the first roller coaster I ever rode so I hope they do something cool like kings island did with son of beast that way it’s always remembered at the park
They haven't completely removed the ride yet, I'm wondering if they'll keep the loops in tact as a memento.

I live about an hour and a half from Adventureland. I love thrill rides but wooden coasters give me migraines and the dragon was painful to ride. The Monster is definitely my favorite ride there. I know a lot of people want a new water themed ride but I highly doubt they will build one. They have an adjacent water park if you want to get wet. They would be better off building another steel coaster. I'm excited for Dragon Slayer. Next they need to nix Tornado and Outlaw!
Definitely keep an eye on Adventureland. I just went there on Sunday and they had relocated the circus tent to a different area, leaving lots of empty space that would be large enough for a great new coaster. It would fun if they bring a log ride back. I don't think they'll do a river rapids in the area by the lagoon because they already have one in another section of the park. I would love to see a Raptor at Adventureland in the future.

Adventureland has such a great opportunity to keep its home base right now. With the available area left over after Dragon Slayer's construction, how dope would it be to then construct "Rise of Dragon" in that area? Idk how much Adventureland has on their credit line, but that seems like a best case scenario for this hidden gem in the heartland. As for what type of coaster that could be, I doubt their base populous would be disappointed.

The Dragon was one of the reasons I went to Adventureland. Removing it kind made me feel betrayed. The only way to make it up it another coast just like The Dragon, but a little longer. Removing The Dragon is driving me away. The mockup you showed of the possible replacement makes me resent the decision more.
The Dragon was the best roller coaster Adventureland had. I still remember when it was new - when Dragon Island was just added.
Basically - I want The Dragon back.
Calling the new one The Dragon Slayer just reminds us that they killed The Dragon.
Betraying the loyal customers and fans is the current trend.
I may or may not be back to Adventureland because of this. I'll go to Valleyfair. The Corkscrew is close enough, but it's not the same.

Well thats a lame trade off..... I was hoping it was an RMC Raptor, or small modern Vekoma, maybe a Premiere Rides Sky Rocket 2 or even an S&S El Loco. Oh well, thats their choice.
I honestly love the theme in a vaccuum. Its similar to Hydra replacing Hades, its a nice touch

As a iowan I think that it’s kind of crappy not gonna lie. This roller coaster was a staple for me when I was younger and it was a staple for the TV ad as well. seeing it when I was younger, made me fall in love with roller coasters. And every time I rode it, I felt that nostalgia. With its intense double inversion the made you gray out to a 4d free spin… just my opinion
Dragon probably got removed because I heard from an insider that worked at Adventureland that a chains snapped on one of the costers and two separate cards were going instead of one
Dragon was jank, last I rode it (Summer 2018) it jerked your head around like crazy and felt really unstable. It was old. Tornado's gotta stay though, it's consistently been a good experience for me.

Id definitely like to see another water ride in place of the larger area the dragon took up, but we've already got the raging river, so unless they were to build another type of log ride, I don't see many options. I'm definitely gonna miss the dragon though
It's not too bad. It's a decent ride but I'd really love to see them expand over the lagoon.
It just kinda sucks that the water rides here have always had a history of being painful and less than safe 😂 then again I'm the size of a damn troll so that may have something to do with it
I havent been to Adventureland since I was 11. However I don't know how to feel about The Dragon. I am excited for it, but im also worried that it wont be as well received. In the end, just have to wait and find out.

So on one of the rides me and my sibling saw the parts for the log ride in an area off to the side so it is very likely the log ride might return in the lagoon area
I helped in building the electronics room and soon to be building the entrance they are both Castle themed. I'm not a huge fan of these rides but I do think they could have picked a better spot to put this ride.
I wish they went for a custom version instead of a clone. At least monster was custom. But it could be custom for all we know. Like taller or faster etc

Also....for decades, Adventureland has followed Worlds of Fun and Six Flags St. Louis five PLUS years later getting their version of the hot new trendy ride. These last few years; however, Adventureland has been getting things "coasters" NEW to the region.
That's true, their last three coasters have all been very unique (besides maybe the Freespin being about 5 hours away). I think that's a great strategy for growth.

I guess it's unique to the area but personally, it doesn't live up to the dragon. I think maybe a custom RMC raptor or even a jersey devil clone would have been preferable. Still I understand where they are coming from.

This is my home park, very sad they went with a cut and paste freespin over a raptor which has a similar cost.
I HIGHLY doubt a new water ride. Adventureland has a separate water park area, if they wanted another water ride they'll likely put it there.

Honestly we have one at the park at six flags grate Amarica its not the best unless the park and its crew members calculate the weight of the riders the spins dont really spin at all unless worked well by the operator as i mentioned.

Dragons station/queue has been occupied by three other rides throughout adventureland history, so they don’t seem very eager to get rid of that building. Pretty much any coaster with two across seating would fit nicely in it
