Outlaw Coaster - Adventureland - No Brakes, Straight Through Station

This is probably the oddest roller coaster footage you may ever see - On the day the RCCGB visited Adventureland in 1999, a disgruntled employee wanted to get the sack...and did so by running the Outlaw coaster straight through the station with no brakes, sending it flying through the station, around hairpin bends, and halfway up the lifthill. Apparently the employee (Dennis) managed not only to get the sack, but also added about 5 years wear and tear to the coaster in under an hour. This footage is now legendary, and is something you will probably never see again on any coaster, anywhere. Hold on Tight, and enjoy the ride!

I remember this day very well, I was on the USA '99 tour, I have my own camcorder footage of the 'through the station' rides, I went on several times. I think the operator guy finished that day, he wanted to go out with a cheer, he'll always be remembered by the coaster club members who enjoyed that rare experiance. I sure remember!

It truly was hilarious to be on it. I like to separate the ideas of rough and violent, though. The first is a negative, the latter I love. For instance I'm already missing The Ultimate and all but the loop in Son of Beast. But by CCI standards, when running regularly, I'd consider this coaster merely pretty tame, though perhaps it got rougher since? Gimme Boulder Dash, Tonnerre de Zeus, the sadly departed Rampage or esp. Megafobia any day. Even the IMO overrated, over-floaty, not violent enough, Shivering Timbers. And though not CCI, bring back BPB's Wild Mouse, my spine needs to be realigned from the state my last ride altered it.

But yeah, my training basically consisted of being told to come to the commissary for my (one fifteen-minute) break and then being led to my first ride, which was Tornado. The guy there gave a basic overview of how to check the lapbars and that was it. And we also got a new ride every week, and if you didn't know how to work the new one, other employees were expected to fill you in.

That wouldn't happen as the cars are literally locked to the rails by way of the wheel design. Same reason why the cars don't fly off the track when you crest a hill. However as the poster says the operator probably added more wear and tear than what that section was designed for. More then likely maintenance had to check the track gauge immediately and also if any of the wheels were damaged. And this is outside of the injuries that could have resulted taking unbanked curves at speed.

What I am surprised at is that the main brake run could be defeated. Normally that is controlled by a computer. Granted all coasters are different, but generally the first brake run is computer controlled and is usually 'on' and this bleeds off most of the speed from the train. Then there is another brake which has more manual control (which should normally be 'on')and then finally the station brakes. So if he defeated that computer, I am surprised he didn't get locked up for that stunt.

I missed the earlier rides including the three circuit ride - I believe someone told me as I was wandering in the park that the coaster was being sent through the station, so I headed straight there to find club members and general public on the train. I thought this video footage was filmed mid-afternoon, although it's 23 years ago so I might be wrong.

@@davidjellis Davey-boy, even though now 60yrs-old, after haven't even ridden a coaster in many years, I still remember the fun our club trips have given me, and I often come back to your great vids. This more than most due to personal great memories. Speaking of which, I've just now remembered how we made it a full club takeover so that the great Dennis did his thing, and that every one of us dropped back to let the gen pub through until it was 100% us lot. And it wasn't a three-run, it was four. Only the third one was heavily(ish ) braked. I was incredibly fortunate enough to have been on this and the aforementioned on this vid side-slamming, thoroughly unexpected first go-through ride of the morn.
Hope you and yours are well mate. Although at my age and state of my back, I'm no longer the coaster fan I was, I'd like to catch up with you and other old mates at, say, a BPB or AT after-event. Stay well, if indeed you already are.

Pleased the video is bringing back fond memories...I don't get to so many coasters these days as Susan has lost a lot of interest, so we are mainly doing cruises...but I am still coaster crazy LOL.
Would be good to meet up if we get a chance of course. I am well thanks, hope you are too. @@bodsnvimto
