    Odysseus actually was really easy so far with me because once you reach critical mass of javelin totting units... you can pretty much EVISCERATE most armies in a head on collision because by the time any of their units reach your line they already get mauled by hundreds of javelins...
    Their MAIN infantry combatant are ALL javelin totting...
    the key jump though was I had to IMMEDIATELY get to heavy sword skirmisher and bypass the initial sword skirmisher
    The difference in their melee capability is massive (but the upkeep BARELY increased that it made the normal sword skirmisher almost obsolete), the heavy sword skirmisher being FAR more melee capable than the ordinary ones, at the cost of some speed and being heavy...
    Neither of the 'penalty' felt like a significant thing so far because when MOST of your battle line can chuck javelins... the result is quite...
    comical frankly... like, I don't care if I face the best sword, axe, spear, cavalry, or even chariots
    EVERYTHING DIES when entire line opens up with javelins and they get their face turned to pin cushion with javelins.

    agamemnon gets crazy easy starts with a good balance of all the resources and he gets rich fast, hes a hella strong duel big damage tank (unlock his Chariot ASAP) , and everyone just starts joins him or easy to vasselize and you can demand resources while people beg to be your vassal

    • @Arcaryon
      @Arcaryon 4 года назад +1

      I had the opposite experience. I started my first ever legendary campaign and I felt like his starting position felt messed up because I wanted to actually roleplay and the only expansion options in that sense were to the north because I can't betray Diomedes to get that bronze and if you do that, you are constantly struggling to field the armies necessary while you become entrenched between allies to south, an ever-expanding Achilles to the north-west, Amazons to the north and your vassals dragging you into a war with Troy way before you can prepare anything. Like, having allies on paper seems like a strength but if your cities are the only frontline there is, his start seems to rely on expansion into the friendly territory to the south which kind of clashes with the idea I had going into the campaign of actually replaying the whole story. Sure, the extra bronze from your minions is nice but Knossos for example, it took its whole island, got my vassal but was pretty much excluded from any of the fighting because of its position and I feel like that's the case with many of the territories that are actually further away from the action, sure the start is alright but the midgame is a damn mess.

    Odysseus night runners: I stopped using them because they don't have a shield and are main target for enemy archers. They get destroyed quickly when there's no bushes around for them to hide.
    You can make 7-8 units of Medium sword skirmishers, 5 chariots and the rest you fill with late game javelinman and harpies fiends. All of these are fast and have vanguard deployment. Skip heavy sword skirmishers. Too slow and don't have vanguard. Chariots also lack vanguard, but are really fast and they should be used to disrupt enemy archers. Odysseus only has archer chariots, but switch them to melee and turn off skirmish mode. Then charge archers. If you make your army like this, every battle will be very fast and explosive. Deploy in enemy's face, charge and you can pick apart all reinforcing armies in detail.
    First thing you should do on the map, after you deal with you first enemy, is you should sent one general to the bottom left of the map. There is a lonely island(one region-province) which is uninhabited. Occupy the settlement and raise it to level 5. After that you build cyclops cave on it, dock level 5 and temple to poseidon. You can time your constuction so that you bring Poseidon to 650 in one turn. That island alone will provide you 3000+ food per turn when fully upgraded. And no one will ever attack it.
    Odysseus as a general has an additional stance that's unique to him. You can upgrade him to use this stance mid campaign. it allows him to attack enemy generals as if he's ambushing them. That means even if they have another army reinforcing them, they are caught in an ambush with no escape and no reinforcement.
    Another thing this guy didn't mention which is pretty debilitating to Odysseus is his coastal mastery comes with a drawback. Settlement with no harbour, can only constuct a main building. Nothing else. Let that sink in. Knossos is this kind of settlement. Mycene is this kind of settlement. No special building for you. No labyrinth that gives gold, no special temples, no influence buildings, nothing. Since all inland settlements are now worthless to you, you might as well raise them and loot them and make as much trouble as possible.

      @italianspartacus  4 года назад +8

      So that's always really been the problem with Vassals.. But think of it this way.. At some point, keeping too much land requires you to manage a massive empire. If you use the vassal system, you don't need to really manage those places, and their armies are at your beck n call. So, technically, you can field much larger armies if you vassalize people then use the "war targets" feature in diplomacy to have them attack your targets with you when they join your wars :)

I’ve done 6-7 campaigns and even with Lycia the diplomatic or bartering Kings so to speak it doesn’t matter can’t field a full stack anddddd any garrison at all unless you are Mycenae for me. I’ve played like over 700-1000 hours in Rome two total war and love troys campaign and map but I wish they had used Rome 2 total wars battle in game mechanics and engine it just is 1000x better than warhammers. I hate that also units take ZERO damage when pulling through like a hoard of my guys all good units attacking them. But when my units rout through enemy shit units and just one of em they get shredded makes no sense.. like they can kill you when routing but you cant?..

    Any tips on how to deal with a very early Trojan war effort as Agamemnon? I have basically never gotten further than Athens and expanding towards Sparta doesn't seem like an option but you can't protect your homeland without resources and with 3 full-stack armies roaming around constantly, expansion really slows down and I feel like I am actually playing a game of ancient trench warfare where I beat an army and they sent two more and I can't really lay sieges or move out because they instantly send more troops and while I got all important allies on my side, they take too long to take out the invading armies, which leaves me with a neverending defensive war in a downwards spiral... Like, I haven't even got to the sending a single army to towards Troy and beat Hektor and Paris multiple times and now the Amazons declared war on me too which while not a major problem, has created a complete stalemate because I can't move my two battered armies away from the cities for more than three turns and as a result and again, even if I take them all out, they are able to field a new force in a heartbeat while I lack the resources to even maintain a single mid campaign army, let alone two.

    • @Arcaryon
      @Arcaryon 4 года назад +1

      So, there really isn't a good way how to do this peacefully. As you yourself pointed out, it is kinda counterproductive to vassalize the other surrounding factions near you.
      What you are probably supposed to do is to try to expand at a rapid paste towards Athens while also fielding a second army back home and just eat the diplomatic punishment from conquering the friendlies until you take over everyone but your best bro in Sparta. Basically, just try to make your allies prioritise the enemies settlements you can't get to and then be prepared to take the last ones to gain the vassals. He is built on being pretty aggressive because having that many minions make his position a lot stronger. I have found that he is really dependent on a very fast and well-thought-out early game but only begins to shine when you start to head towards Troy after defending your homeland because before, you won't have the recourses to support the armies necessary to actually keep everything together as Salamis tends to collapse under any pressure and the islands are difficult to defend. My recommendation is also to try and play around with grain because if you give someone just 1 grain over multiple turns, it seems to mess with their AI and can be used to gain a pretty significant advantage.

    I keep getting wrecked because the ai just all jump on me at the same time and my allies just don't help at all lol. And Achilles is an asshole who betrays me every time. (So far I've tried odyssies and menelaus). In addition to that as odyseus's campaign is really annoying because its constant rebellions which really slows you down

    The Dardanians, Danaans, Danes, and the thuatha de danann were all descendants of the Biblical tribe of Dan. The Greeks, Irish and Danish people are part Israelite.

      The Danaans are kind of like Vikings and the Irish drink and fight all the time, too. So it kind of makes sense.

      because that's the ancient Greek pronunciation :) It's called Linear B, which is an outdated form of Greek that disappeared during the Greek Dark Ages and was replaced with something similar to the standard Greek lexicon we see today.
