You definitely saved me as well as alot of people a pain when it come to what ammo shoots out of your rpr. Unless there are some major manufacturing differences in the rifles , your info gives us all a great place to start with ammo testing. Thank you for all the info.
there will be some differences in the lower end stuff for sure but high end stuff like cx and all the sk flavors will pretty much be interchangeable. good luck!
Corey, Great work, thank you for your time to put this together. This has to be one of the best 22 ammo reviews I've found since you show the data in a clear concise format. I'm getting ready to do a similar test with a couple of my rifles to see what they like beyond Mini-Mags. Wish me luck ;-)
Thanks for the feedback. Once thing i wish i was able to do was have at least 20 fowling rounds per ammo and maybe run a barrel snake through a few times after each i just didn't have that kind of time or ammo. I would recommend doing that to get the best results. good luck though!
@@coreyd1474 Agreed. I was planning on running 25 rounds per gun (5x5) in a sense getting the 20 fouling and 1- 5 shot group. I also want to see if there really is any difference as the barrel acclimates to the ammo. I was going to use an Otis pull through, but I may just grab a bore snake for ease.
Very nice to see someone testing so much different ammo, I did the same thing well over 15 years ago in France when starting Olympic 50m target competition. Out of a Anschutz Match 54 and then later out of a Anschutz 1903 I tested Remington (Golden and Target), Norma, Winchester (T22), Eley (5 different kind), SK (rifle and pistol match) and then a 1.5€ box of CCI standard velocity, CCI beat everything for me, my 1903 would put 10rnd of CCI at 50m like there was only 5 in one tiny hole, and the best surprise was how clean my rifle barrel was after shooting a match, even several matches, not the case with any other of the ammo I tried, worst for Eley and SK. Dude I really like your video, I was looking for .22 comparison out of a 10/22 but you are bringing so much memories, made my day!!
thats pretty awesome you were an olympic shooter! definitely the first person i've ever "met" who was one. glad you liked the video! Thanks for the comment.
Olympic is a big word, but most shooting range in France are set for 10-25-50 meters precision and speed target shooting which follow Olympic standards. I started at around 10 years old at 10 meters with air rifles (mostly Feinwerkbau), by 14 I was helping training younger kids while starting 50m competition with an old Match 54 rifle, in high school I switched to the 1907 (not 1903) best .22 rifle I ever shot. You can find some in the US, but fairly rare, I have seen more the Russian counterpart Izhmash (here in Idaho)
WOW you saved me a bunch of time and energy by fleshing out so many different manufacturers. I dropped the Norma-22, it didnt shoot consistently. Picked up the Federal Auto Match and it ran great, until I got out past 125 yards. Proof that each rifle shoots different ammo differently. Thanks for the hard work.
thanks for watching. i think eley has been lacking in quality control. the last few times i've shot them and i know others have had a ton of FTF. even 10x out of a box of 50 i had like 3-4 that had to strike 3-4 times
What typically causes a radical flyer like the Federal Hunter match @ 2:25 is often a poorly formed bullet. When the pour includes an air pocket it throws off the balance of the bullet and causes an increasing-radius spiral. As it spins it spirals out further & further with distance.
Happy I came across your videos. I have a RPR also. I just got mine about a month ago. I have been firing some Winchester bulk with not so good results. 2” at 25 yards. I shot from another box of the same at about 1” at 25 yards again not good. I was starting to think I had a dud for a gun so I picked up some green tag and got 1/4 at 25 yards a bit more what I was looking for. It did it in 5 shot groups over 4 targets so it was very consistent. I have used GT in my match pistol for years and was so happy I tried it.
Like and appreciate your videos a lot. I picked up a RPR 22LR a couple months ago. Got it finished recently. Really happy with performance. Your videos helped when deciding on a new rifle. I’m down in SW Ohio.
Corey D www.rugerforum.net/threads/my-first-ruger-rprr-ammo-test-results-pic-heavy.389372/#post-4519139 Some results from testing my rifle. Have about 500 rounds through it so far. No issues. Maybe I got lucky and got a gem.
I like watching your videos. I've been stocking up on 22lr ammo because they're so fun and cheap. Went to my local ammo store many times contemplating on what to buy. I know CCI is good for the money but I've been comparing cost and performance with sk, eley, and Aguila. I can say I'm glad I didn't buy some of the ammo I almost did after watching this. Will be adding Eley Target to my stash. I'd like to see you try the bulk box of Winchester M22 in your next video. Thanks a bunch.
thanks for watching glad i could help! eley target is awesome out of this but i know a LOT of people don't like any type of eley. good thing about 22 is there is basically endless types of ammo to try.
My RPR works best 40gr CCI Mini-mags. @50yds, they perform as good as the best groupings in your vidoe (great video by the way!). Never tried the Stingers in my RPR because the Ruger manual advises against them. However, CZ455 Yellow Kanel loves the Stingers.
gotta love it when your rifle shoot cheap available ammo well! I didn't realize it but they say you shouldn't shoot stingers because the case is longer apparently the case is longer. made no difference for me. Thanks for watching!
I am glad that I squirrelled away a few boxes of the Eley Target ammo. Disappointed in the Aguila results. The Copper Aguila Super Extra is one of my favorite rounds.
After watching your videos, I ran a test based on your model. I ran every type I could find. Remington, eley, federal, Aguila, norma, cci etc. Out of 35 different rounds at 50 yards it came down to federal hv match, Aguila pistol match and Aguila super extra. Took those 3 out to 100 yards, the cheapest of the three, super extra shot the best. Ruger precision rifle, Nikon bdc rim fire 3 X 9, elevation 4100, 85 degrees, winds calm. Thanks for the idea. I will try it again this winter in colder Temps to see what changes.
You have to test eley match and tenex. Both are great. Get different lot numbers some can be ok others are extremely accurate. Just don’t use eley edge. Shot a different occasions and different lots. Shots went all over the place, never again.
I was going to try tenex but changed my mind when i saw what it costs. i dont' figure it will shoot any better than eley target or force which is what i've found to be best for me. target for 50-100 and force for anything further out to 400 so far without running out of dope on the scope. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching!
Corey, great job. I've watched both the 1st part and this second part. Very well done. Kudo's to what I know was a lot of work to produce this video. But I came away with a couple of "I wonder if's". First, I know you shot most of this when it was pretty dang cold outside. So I'm wondering if some of the flyers were due to a "cold" first shot. Barrel temp is one of those hard to define variables. Without monitoring barrel temp it would be difficult to gauge what effect temp played in your tests. Also, I would be very curious as to how "dirty" each of the various brand/types were. I'm sure you probably noticed that certain brands/types were dirtier than others. Again, thank you for your "well done" comparison video. I enjoyed watching it as I'm also interested in the performance of the rifle itself.
first of all thanks for watching and thanks for the input! Yes, i'm convinced the cold weather had a lot to do with it. i've since then had a few types out again that didn't shoot so well in the original that shot really well. I ended up buying 1000 eley force and 1000 eley target, (which by the way is the best out of this gun.) All 22 is pretty dirty, but i didn't pay close enough attention to see which was more dirtier than others. Once the weather dies down here i'm going to take the best 5 and do a 200 yard video. eley force for me will do 1/2 moa at 200 and shoots very well out to 350. it will do further i just haven't had a chance to go further yet.
Well done on Parts 1 and 2! Thank you for investing the time and money and sharing your results with us. I also liked the fact that you said that this is what worked well in your rifle but we should do our own testing to see what works well in our own. It sure is interesting to see how some of the different brands perform. I'm not a "precision" shooter as I own a couple of Savage Mk II's, a Savage 64G and a S&W M&P 15-22 but I do enjoy trying to make a nice group at 50 and 100 yards. Funny thing is, my 15-22 just loves the Federal AutoMatch but my Walther P22QD handgun won't shoot it at all. Just goes to prove your point that one should test one's own firearms to see what works. I get so annoyed when some people say one brand of ammo is junk. Its just junk in that gun, not in all. All my 22's shoot Remington T-Bolts really well and accurately, especially the P22. I have some RWS subsonic hollow point that I want to try at 50 and 100 yards. From some other tests I've seen on YT it does very well in the CZ that it was tested in. You might give it a look if you can find it these days. I'd also like to get some SK Magazine but might have to wait awhile until the ammo shortage eases up. Anyway, thanks again - really enjoyed the vids.
Glad you liked the video! I do like federal auto match, i haven't shot it recently due to it not available any where i think i've got around 2k rounds of it saved up for a rainy day. And another reason i haven't shot it is because its super sonic. where i shoot now i have to have sub sonic.
I've had really good results with CCI standard. And its quiet with my suppressor. So thats what I use. Good enough for what I use it for. And its easy on the barrel.
Excellent video. Now I've seen both parts. I think your ammo review is the best one on youtube by far. I do get a lot different results from my Ruger 10/22 with some of the same ammo you shoot. Easy to explain: I like faster ammo at shorter distances where it stays supersonic throughout. Anyway, these days I shoot whatever I can get, if anything.
Good video. I like the large variety of ammo used. You should compare some of the CCI quiet to other quiet rounds. I think it would be interesting to see how some of the very low FPS ammo stack up.
BTW, the wind will screw with a slower bullet *more* because it has a longer flight time and is in the wind longer. On a windy day you lose the advantages of sub-sonic rounds (
Super test on 22 LR ammo , Fe’s thoughts to consider for future testing . How many fouling shots before you shoot from one test group to a another .i found out it’s about 20 shots from copper plated ammo to lead , much less the other way around . Also it’s good to mark the first shot to see if there is a pattern on your first shot / cold barrel shot. Working the torque wrenches on the action screws if the bedding has been done would dramatically change group size , about 3.5 to 6 Newton’s, there are some good tests on RUclips on this ,, measuring the headspace also will eliminate flyers, you will be surprised how many you will find even in a pricy 20$ box of 50 . Same brand , same type , but a different batch will produce different results , 100 meters or yards will highlight the results better , but avoid a windy day . Good luck to your journey in finding the magic 22 , some find it some don’t,
Love these vids. I'm also chasing for the best bang for the buck ammo. But that seems to change between 50,100,200+ yrds. I'm going to try the federal target ammo from your first vid.
Bed the rifle and action with metal hvac tape, its a immediate improvement, like 1/2 moa off your group difference, its very easy to do there are videos on RUclips
Maybe writing out the target distance on top of the target would help a lot of audience. So this is 50 yards or 100 yards ? at 1 inch or more group i'm thinking this is 100 yards ?
@@coreyd1474 . Not saying it's to long. But it seams "quick" videos are good. But you have inspired me to put some time to test ourselves in paper more.
You are switching ammo's without cleaning between them or shooting several fouler rounds first before doing a group. Try the Eley Club again, BUT clean your rifle first, and then shoot 5-10 rounds before shooting a group, guaranteed.....lights out!. The ammo's you were getting to group well (without fliers) were after shooting a like bullet with similar bullet and lube material.
Thanks for the video and comparison of all the ammo. It's nice to see real groups on paper. When my chrono fails to record shots, I darken the bullet with a black sharpie. Maybe that's why the Eley force did well? (Use the force?) Use the sky screens if it's a shoot through and brighter skies seems to help.
Maybe it was the day im not sure. Force has actually been the best for me out to distance. ive got groups as low as 1/2 moa at 200 yards and can hit a 12x20 silhouette with every single shot at 350 without running out of dope on the scope. so far at 50 yards after testing each ammo a few more times eley force has a slight edge out of all the ammo. even the super expensive stuff.
Eley Tenex EPS, perhaps the most expensive .22 lr ammo, did about the same as Aguila Interceptor at 25 and 50 yards with Ruger 10/22. I guess it's the rifle. I'm thinking about getting one of the precision rifles, but I haven't decided which to get. I'm think about Ruger Precision Rimfire, Tikka T1X, Lithgow LA101 , or CZ .22.
I have been testing ammo for my Roger PR, and by far the best was Federal Gold MedaL Ultra Match. Same hole at 50 yards. Problem is, Federal stopped making it. Center X was the next best and all Eley’s were the worst.
Man it's crazy everyone says their rpr hates eley. Mine shoots force well out to 200 and beyond and eley target it's clover leaf at 50. Guess I got lucky lol but eley target is expensive! Thanks for the input!!
The Ruger Precision Rimfire that you have been using for testing .22 ammo ,is it stock or does it have an ER Shaw barrel ? The reason Iam asking Ruger warns against using Stingers in their Precision Rimfire because of the longer case length
you can use stingers in the factory barrel because it doens't have a match chamber but not in any after market barrel because most are cut with some flavor of match chamber
Hey Corey! Just subbed. Great info man! I'm currently getting used to my rifle and scooping any ammo i fond at the store up to test out here at some point when the weather cooperates. I'm on the PA / NY border, so i understand that weather you're dealing with. Have you done anything with the barrel block on yours? (Aluminum tape to eliminate wobble?) I haven't but was thinking of doing so. Again, great reviews!
Great videos! I’ve been trying to find ammo that cycled my 10/22 with minimal issues. The federal 525 box would jam 2-3 times out of a 10 round magazine. I found that CCI AR-tactical works nearly flawless.
I’d say center-x, sk rifle match, sk pistol match, all need a revisit. Like you said keep shooting groups with the same ammo. I missed the the midas plus group you said did well. I’ll bet you find the rifle is capable of cz accuracy. Cold weather no good for ammo testing .22 unless you plan on skiing and shooting.
its funny you say that because i was just out cold weather testing last week and velocities were MORE than warm weather and sd's were good but accuracy was lacking for some reason.
Corey, Running the same setup with a 6x24 50mm Diamondback. Shooting the Eley Target based on your tests and availability. What distance should I sight in at 50yd or 100yds? Killing it at 50yds, not as tight yet at 100. Should I zero and use the lines or just zero the turret and count the clicks and keep notes? Second way seems more accurate. No competitions in this area yet, but maybe one day. Thanks, Scott
just depends on how far you normally shoot. i always zero at 50 and hold over if i'm just having fun shooting stuff. if i'm shooting for groups i put dope on the scope.
I have tried all kinds of different 22 lr and for me the best I can find regardless of price is Federal Auto Match in the 325 ct. box , ya just can't beat it !!
I talked to a Federal rep at a match a couple of years ago and he said they make the Auto Match on all new machines. He seemed to think that the new machines had better consistency which produces more accurate ammo. Dunno if it is true but seems to make sense.
@@TheKajunkat i mean yea that makes sense. it shoots well out of all my rifles, although i haven't shot it in the tikka t1x yet but i expect nothing less. i need to stock up on it thanks for reminding me.
Thanks again! Have you noticed the muzzle brake adding anything to the accuracy. Some have noted that the thread protector affects accuracy. Which brake are you running?
Also, have you thought about doing a video about your best shooting 5 or so types out to 200 and 300 yards for comparison? I'd be interested to see if the Force does much better since it is marginally heavier than the others.
Yes. I have some eley target on the way so once that comes in ill get the best together and go to 200. Even with force which shoots half moa at 200 that's about as far as it will group consistently. Force will hit my 12x20 silhouette every single shot at 350 (with little wind obviously). Since that ammo hovers right below the supersonic face it doesn't have to transverse the transonic face which 22 destabilizes easy that's why they day ammo in the 1050-1090 fps is optimal
...some of these data (Eley Force) conflict with the "go-to" .22lr chrono database (2005-2020) I use, which has been very comparable to what I've seen shooting them @100 yards. Just renforces that every barrel is different and data / consistency doesn't predict what it will do in your own rifle ...
right. 22 is a strange animal. even a few fps difference in guns results in fairly substantial differences at even 50 yards. that's what makes it "fun" right?
@@coreyd1474 ... absolutely, it's part science, part skill, part luck! I found the data after a surprise testing ammo - I'd only tried it because it was cheap! First 10 rounds @100 yards were all inside my 2" target, I picked the box up and just smiled at it! I tried the next 10 at my 1 inch "optimist" target and 7 inside, with 3 just off edge...I went back into range shop and bought all the stock!!
The Lapua centre x is the Ruger Precision favourite ammo. Club would be the Ruger 10/22 Favourite. But I got great results out of CCI tactical copper heads not expensive
@@coreyd1474, we here in the club are shooting Lapua centre x to 325 yards, the same with the Ruger 10/22. With Eley club. My friends won't use any other ammo in the Ruger Precision. I have to try the SK Match just can't get my hands on it at the moment. All my tests are 100 yards
@@raymondoreilly7569 its definitely fun shooting 22s out to distance. furthest i've taken mine at my house is about 415. i just can't afford to go out and shoot center-x or club all day long so white box works fine for plinking and distance shooting.
@@coreyd1474 , I definitely agree I use CCI Standard mostly because they do okay with most of my rifles. Look up Midlands Shooting Centre in Ireland on Facebook and you will see use shooting running targets with rimfire and centre fire. Regards
The only rifle that shot stingers that I've seen was a weatherby mark 22. Good hunting groups. My 22s shoot large groups, but I have used them in my 10 22 successfully for rabbit hunting on the run.
These are great comparisons and interesting to see the differences as i have the same RPR and it hates Lapua center x so far for me looks like SK is the way to go
normally out of every rifle i test some flavor of sk and cx is at the top. pretty sure they're the same round just the type of wax used is different but i'm not 100% sure on that.
Thanks for all the work you put into testing, just wondering how often you clean the barrel. I've been shooting a Remington 541S past 30 yrs just for groundhogs and always found the CCI Mini Mag the best for accuracy and stopping power and can get 1 1/2 -2 inch 10 shot groups at 100 with it.Never did good with the Stingers but will try some of the new stuff after seeing your groups with it.
there really isn't a set formula for barrel cleaning. once i start to notice a degradation of accuracy i'll clean it. depending on how but its losing accuracy i'll either run a bore snake through it or take a bore brush and scrub it.
Great shooting, by the way. Was this done with a front bipod, and a rear bag? Or 2 sand bags? My most accurate .22, is my Marlin 881 bolt action 24" barrel. I get groups similar to yours at 25 yards, but not at 50. Still pretty good accuracy for a stock rifle, with an old Weaver scope, using the cheaper ammo. I've thought about sinking some money into rimfire shooting, but I enjoy other types of shooting, also. But, I'm always impressed with people that are deep into the rimfire world of shooting. Keep up the good work.
Some of your results are interesting, since to my knowledge SK Rifle and Pistol Match are broadly the same ammunition, apart from a lower velocity in the Pistol Match. Also, Eley Club and Target (labelled as Sport in the UK) are the same ammunition I think, just that the Club are the 'better' batches than the Sport (Target), in theory at least!
ive got most of that ammo out and tested it more in depth. the sk rifle stuff shot pretty well and so did eley club. after all the testing it still shot target the best at 50 and force at 100-400. i've since replaced the barrel with a 20" er shaw barrel and it still shoots target and force pretty well as well as federal white box. haven't got a chance to get it past 200 yet but i was hitting egs on the first shot every time the last time i had it to 200.
Does no one read the owners manual? It specifically says not to shoot Stingers. The casing is longer than other .22lr and can get stuck in the chamber.
Seems like the RPR likes Eley, mine shoots the Eley HV Hollow the best. Followed by Eley SS Hollow. If you can find some I think it would be worth a try.
Great videos! I second Sniperbzh's comment. I'd like more R&D on subsonic ammo- suppressed if possible. I use my RPRF (suppressed) for bird pests and need 1 MOA or better for a first round hit below 50yrs (usually around 25yrds). I am using RWS subsonic HP and CCI suppressor 22LR. The CCI seems to be the best so far for me.
i actually am waiting on paperwork for a silencerco switchback. pretty excited to see how it does with that so when that comes in i'll do some subsonic stuff.
depends on what you want to use it for i guess. the only thing that would stop me from getting the WMR is there isn't much in the way of choices for ammo. either it'll shoot well or it won't.
Could you tell me what scope rings and the height of rings, I have vortex diamondback 6-18x 44 with leupold high rings and the front of my scope is right on the handrail, i cant use my covers or my sunshade because of the no clearance.
Those are the cheaper vortex tactical rings I wanna say they're in the 1 inch range. I've since replaced the scope with the same one in 50mm objective and the new vortext pro series rings that are 1.26 height and they fit perfect
You may want to try federal game shok I get good groups out of my ruger American 22 rimfire with a 22 inch Barrel both the 40 grain and 38 do well I fined them for 4.89 box of 50 some time 3.99 at Wal-Mart
@@coreyd1474 Cool I look forward to seeing that video. You mite want to get a magazine coupler to link up two 10 round magazine it seems you can get a little better groupings with the 10 round magazine fitting in titer and if you get a butler creak hot lips mag you can shoot 22 short 1 at a time but no more then 1 in the mag at a time
I tried Centre-X, Eley Sport and Club and cci mini mag, target rifle and sk match and even as a beginner I was getting under an inch with the occasional flyaway. I will never use Winchester again. The cheapest ammo I’ve bought is $8.50 some are $14 Centre-X I think was $25 it was one of my first to try, I live in Australia. I was just going to ask, do you re zero your rifle when you go from 50 to 100 yards? I have a Simmons scope on my ruger precision I’m still trying to work it out, I find I’m all over the place at 100 and just try to compensate for the distance but can’t get it right, the scope doesn’t click when you turn the knobs and I find it hard as I have to watch as I turn it not listen, I don’t think it has a 0 to be able to reset it easily.
it depends on what kind of shooting i'm doing. if i'm just out plinking i hold over but if i want to shoot for groups i dial up. But i never change my zero from 50 yards
Expensive, $16 a box at Bud’s. 5 shots with these to condition the barrel, then have fun. Very few places carry this round. Apparently, Federal isn’t making many of them anymore. Center X is the next most accurate in mine.
Are those burris rings? What height are they and what size objective do you have? I'm waiting to pick up my RPR but already have 1.25" burris xtr rings and am worried they'll be too low for my 50mm objective.
I live in n.w. ohio, love winter time shooting, it does get a little tough when temps get in to teens and single digits. Btw I really like the federal target bulk too!
Hey Corey thanks a lot I just picked up a precision rimfire and now I can start to dial it in. Do you have any recommendations for hollow points for this gun?
well depends what you want to do with it. i recommend just picking up some federal white box to see how it shoots. i didnt test too many hollow points. just don't shoot stingers, the internet will light you up.
Like what you do here Corey. You edited that you managed 1/2 MoA at 200 yards. That's one-inch groups at 200 yards! Is that consistent or a one-off group. I run consistently around 2MoA at 200 yards for 10-shot groups with CCI Std Vel in my Compact and Target Ruger Americans. Haven't really tested the RPR yet at longer ranges.
Thanks for watching! that .43 moa group at 200 was the first and by far the best. i would say it maintains 2moa or so consistently out to 300 then it starts to drop off as any 22 would i'm sure.
@@coreyd1474 Ah, that makes sense :-) You kept referring to your 50 yard groups as "x-MoA" when clearly they're double the MoA numbers you were using due to being at 50 yards, one-inch groups at 50 yards are 2MoA.
@@ausgixxerpilot all these number in this video were what i punched in to the ballistic-x app so they are true to what i was saying. unless those folks are lying about what a .22 cal @50 yards is shooting.
@@coreyd1474 Did you tell the app you were shooting at 50yds? One MoA at 50yds is a half-inch, basically a single ragged hole. You don't need an app to measure MoA. 1MoA is one-inch at 100yds, two-inches at 200yds, ten-inches at 1000yds, very simple. What was the actual _measurement_ of your .43MoA 200yd group? That would be a 0.86" group, well under one-inch. The reason I ask is because your 200yd group would be smaller in size than these 50yd groups you've shot, which would be astonishing.
@@ausgixxerpilot yes you put in what caliber and how far you are shooting and so on. You should download it it's actually pretty bad ass. I have a picture of the group on my Instagram if you want to see it.
Hey I was just wondering what kind of mount you used to attach your bipod to your rpr as I couldn't find anything anywhere to do it. Any pointers or tips?
If you want a super accurate 22 cal. you need to go center fire. You can control the powder measurements by trickling, and get better velocity averages. I am going back to 22lr for my grand kids. Thx for the review @@coreyd1474
you're about the 30th person to say that. i'd really like to try some of that but everyone basically says what you do that they can't find it any more.
A dear friend shoots 50 yard range and invited me along for a look, I thought it would be a great way to choose my ammo for my CZ 455, most of the people there were shooting with CZ and their targets were one hole! The surprise for me was the ammo they were using was ELEY SPORT! I use it always with hunting done with ELEY SUBSONICS hollow points, iam so happy I didn't have to sift through all the different brands! It's great to have good friends, but that's shooting! Well done and Thankyou!
I finally got fed up with the lack of good ammo for my RPR, and switched to a Savage B 17 FV. Shoots .125 inch groups at 100 yards with Hornady xtp 20 gr ammo. Half the cost of the RPR, and ammo is available. The RPR, as much as I like it, is going to be sold.
stinger cases are longer than normal so the manual says not to use them. but the rprf doesn't have a match chamber so you can shoot them it won't hurt anything.
the factory barrel doesn't have a match trigger so its fine. pretty much any 22 rifle is going to say not to shoot stingers because the case is long. since this i've replaced the barrel with a TRUE match barrel and most rounds are tight as is, would never put stingers in it now.
Ive found cheep 1000rd bricks of armscor plated 22lr for 2 for $30 at dunahms with a coupon lately they throw to much residue for my liking when I use them in my s&w mp 22 pistol large frame
You definitely saved me as well as alot of people a pain when it come to what ammo shoots out of your rpr. Unless there are some major manufacturing differences in the rifles , your info gives us all a great place to start with ammo testing. Thank you for all the info.
there will be some differences in the lower end stuff for sure but high end stuff like cx and all the sk flavors will pretty much be interchangeable. good luck!

Great work, thank you for your time to put this together.
@@TheBrewer3535 it definitely makes a difference. groups will either tighten up or get larger depending on how the gun likes the ammo.

@@Lij_MC yea no kidding
Thanks for the hard work.
glad it helped! thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. I’ve been shooting eley target exclusively last couple years in my RPR rim fire and love it.
thanks for watching. i think eley has been lacking in quality control. the last few times i've shot them and i know others have had a ton of FTF. even 10x out of a box of 50 i had like 3-4 that had to strike 3-4 times
What typically causes a radical flyer like the Federal Hunter match @ 2:25 is often a poorly formed bullet. When the pour includes an air pocket it throws off the balance of the bullet and causes an increasing-radius spiral. As it spins it spirals out further & further with distance.
is that the reason that my bullet looks like it was in a (football) spiral that opened up at 200 yards and cause a miss?
you're a genius!
@@coreyd1474 ...well I've been called a lot of things but... 😉
I have used GT in my match pistol for years and was so happy I tried it.
thanks for watching!
Like and appreciate your videos a lot. I picked up a RPR 22LR a couple months ago. Got it finished recently. Really happy with performance. Your videos helped when deciding on a new rifle. I’m down in SW Ohio.

I believe the winchester m22 was on the part 1 ammo comparison video
My RPR works best 40gr CCI Mini-mags. @50yds, they perform as good as the best groupings in your vidoe (great video by the way!). Never tried the Stingers in my RPR because the Ruger manual advises against them. However, CZ455 Yellow Kanel loves the Stingers.

Can you do special test with subsonic ammunition? Thanks a lot for help me to the choice for my rpr 22.'!
The subsonic is legal in CA and suppressors are not. The CCI GREEN US SUPPOSED TO BE CLEANER TO SHOOT. IS IT.?
Scope recommendations or can you add iron sightS.
skip all your testing and just use cx
I enjoyed your 22 ammunition comparison. Subscribed.
Good deal! Thanks for watching!
And its easy on the barrel.
yea 100% of the time if i'm shooting a 22 other than my vudoo its going to be suppressed with cci standard
Excellent video. Now I've seen both parts. I think your ammo review is the best one on youtube by far. I do get a lot different results from my Ruger 10/22 with some of the same ammo you shoot. Easy to explain: I like faster ammo at shorter distances where it stays supersonic throughout. Anyway, these days I shoot whatever I can get, if anything.
thanks for watching! i try to make videos like i want to see. no ridiculous intro or music or watching someone shoot holes in paper.
Good video. I like the large variety of ammo used. You should compare some of the CCI quiet to other quiet rounds. I think it would be interesting to see how some of the very low FPS ammo stack up.
Thanks for the input i'll definitely put them on the list for part 3. cci standard velocity performs well for me.
BTW, the wind will screw with a slower bullet *more* because it has a longer flight time and is in the wind longer. On a windy day you lose the advantages of sub-sonic rounds (
you don't say?
Good luck to your journey in finding the magic 22 , some find it some don’t,
thank you!

You are switching ammo's without cleaning between them or shooting several fouler rounds first before doing a group. Try the Eley Club again, BUT clean your rifle first, and then shoot 5-10 rounds before shooting a group, guaranteed.....lights out!. The ammo's you were getting to group well (without fliers) were after shooting a like bullet with similar bullet and lube material.
a few for fouling. and by a few i mean less than 10 per like ammo. cleaning not necessary.
Thanks for your efforts. I'm tempted by the RPRF and your review was helpful.
No problem! I honestly don't see why there's all the negative reviews on accuracy out there. This thing is a tac driver.

Running the same setup with a 6x24 50mm Diamondback.

It says in the ruger precision rimfire manual not to shoot stingers. They have an extra long case that can cause problems

there really isn't a set formula for barrel cleaning. once i start to notice a degradation of accuracy i'll clean it. depending on how but its losing accuracy i'll either run a bore snake through it or take a bore brush and scrub it.
I luv all your videos, thank u so much😊

Thank you so much. This two-part series was a gift.
my gift to you :)
If you look it up, you shouldn’t shoot stingers from this rifle. It’s a chambering thing.
good thing its not a match chamber :) i've shot 50 through it no problem. they shoot like shit at 100, fine for varmints though.
My Remington 504t shoots Stinger pretty well.
nothing shoots stangers well
My Ruger precision 22lr likes the Aquilia super extra, wolf match, and cci green tag.
mine shoots all those well also. i really like green tag. i've had the best results from 50-350 with eley force.
Those Rugers look a lot better than they can shoot. I was going to get a 22 mag but doubtful I will now
depends on what you want to use it for i guess. the only thing that would stop me from getting the WMR is there isn't much in the way of choices for ammo. either it'll shoot well or it won't.
Stingers are not recommended per the Ruger manual.
good thing i'll only ever shoot 10 of them LOL Thanks for watching!
Can anyone explain why Ruger can sell this awesome rifle for the same price as takedown 10/22 stainless? I see more value here with target?
hard telling
I'm a Ruger fan but TBH I've yet to be impressed by what I've seen out of the RPR anywhere.
its fine for the money
Could you tell me what scope rings and the height of rings, I have vortex diamondback 6-18x 44 with leupold high rings and the front of my scope is right on the handrail, i cant use my covers or my sunshade because of the no clearance.
Those are the cheaper vortex tactical rings I wanna say they're in the 1 inch range. I've since replaced the scope with the same one in 50mm objective and the new vortext pro series rings that are 1.26 height and they fit perfect
You may want to try federal game shok I get good groups out of my ruger American 22 rimfire with a 22 inch Barrel both the 40 grain and 38 do well I fined them for 4.89 box of 50 some time 3.99 at Wal-Mart
alright i'll give them a try for part 3. thanks!
Thank you for the very very informative video
thanks for watching!
Try Federal Gold Medal Ultra Match. All holes touching at 50 yds with my RPR. Better than any other ammo I have used.
whats the price on those?
Expensive, $16 a box at Bud’s. 5 shots with these to condition the barrel, then have fun. Very few places carry this round. Apparently, Federal isn’t making many of them anymore. Center X is the next most accurate in mine.
The ruger competition competes with this rifle considerably I have one on the way $520 couldn’t beat the deal!
not bad. you can pick up an rprf for like 380 now
Corey D what rifle is the rprf and from where can you get it for $380?
@@derekquinones8614 ruger precision rimfire. you can get them all day on arms list for 380 now it looks like 380-450
I can't find your part 1 video and I don't believe you mention the distance you were shooting in this video. Was it 50yds or 100yds?
50
My CZ 455 shoots the SK rifle match amazing. Dime size groups at fifty.
most 455s and 457s shoot very well.
Are those burris rings? What height are they and what size objective do you have? I'm waiting to pick up my RPR but already have 1.25" burris xtr rings and am worried they'll be too low for my 50mm objective.
(RPR has the 30 MOA rail)
No those are the cheap vortex tactical rings I cant recall what height but its a 44mm obj
@@coreyd1474 thanks anyway 👍
I know these were done a year ago, but I'd like to see (if you do another one) how the aguila sniper subsonic 60gr shoots out of the Ruger Precision
This rifle is long gone. had to clear some space for more precision 22s
@@coreyd1474 yeah I think you Answered this, I may have asked it on part 1 also. Thanks man, and I will be looking fwd to more videos of yours.
@@_GlockComa yea its possible. surprisingly i've had a bunch of comments so i lose track sometimes. got a few more videos in the works for sure!
How does Aguila subsonic do?
that gun shot most types of aquila ok. nothing spectacular
I live in n.w. ohio, love winter time shooting, it does get a little tough when temps get in to teens and single digits. Btw I really like the federal target bulk too!
its not the cold that gets me its the damn wind. seems to be always windy lol yea white box is hard to beat for the price. thanks for the input!
Any pointers or tips?
i believe this one was using the magpul bipod that comes with mlock.
@@coreyd1474 thank you so much!
@@blaindebaca8560 youre welcome
My rprf hated every type of eley I tried. I just picked up a brick of prime subs and hope they redeem my rifle, pretty pricey at $70 for 500
Yea I've heard the same thing from several people and not just with rprfs. Sucks you gotta so much to get a decent shooting ammo!
If you want a super accurate 22 cal. you need to go center fire. You can control the powder measurements by trickling, and get better velocity averages. I am going back to 22lr for my grand kids. Thx for the review @@coreyd1474
Thanks for watching!
Mr NiceKnife ..same with mine. Eley is terrible in mine
So like every rimfire rifle they are picky with what ammo they like
would appear so, wouldn't it?
My RPR does best with Federal Gold Medal Ultra Match. Same hole at 50 yards. Hard to find but try it
Medal
you're about the 30th person to say that. i'd really like to try some of that but everyone basically says what you do that they can't find it any more.
The RPR, as much as I like it, is going to be sold.
why no stingers, sorry i bought mine 2nd hand so no manual.
stinger cases are longer than normal so the manual says not to use them. but the rprf doesn't have a match chamber so you can shoot them it won't hurt anything.
the manual says to NOT use stingers.
the factory barrel doesn't have a match trigger so its fine. pretty much any 22 rifle is going to say not to shoot stingers because the case is long. since this i've replaced the barrel with a TRUE match barrel and most rounds are tight as is, would never put stingers in it now.
Ive found cheep 1000rd bricks of armscor plated 22lr for 2 for $30 at dunahms with a coupon lately they throw to much residue for my liking when I use them in my s&w mp 22 pistol large frame
nice
That was crazy. Most shooters have good results with Aglia
22 rifles are shore finicky. Need to try a lot of ammunition to find the right one. Good presation. Thanks.
yea 22 is a hard animal to pin down consistently. aguila has worked well for me at 200-300 yards.
What a scope is that I know it’s a vortex just go a ruger persision 22
its a vortext diamondback tactical 6-24x50. would recommend.
Can you do a decibel comparison ?
i'm sure you could but it would be kinda pointless. all subsonic ammo sounds like every other subsonic ammo. same with supersonic.
