The weird thing is, I have the Dell XPS 15 here as well, and it definitely does not recognize me with a mask on (but recognizes me just fine without). I cannot imagine Dell changed some underlying code to make WIndows Hello not work with their laptops. If it's really a Windows thing, why does it not seem to work with Dell laptops? At least this generation they have awesome iGPUs. I'm sorry, I love AMD and I'd love to have their CPUs in every laptop, but when you don't have the choice, you don't have the choice... Not to mention some of us with these laptops have TB3 accessories like TB3 docs and TB3 eGPUs. I literally can't switch to AMD since I have RTX 2070 eGPU and AMD does nothing with that.
It's the business marketing that's having these laptops at like $1k. Hence even tho people may not like the " gaming " in many pc devices, finding a " gaming " laptop would give something better than the usual, " I'm here to buy a laptop to work in an office like a slave. " shtick. Just finding a $300 laptop with Ryzen in it be better than this monstrousity of a product. Intel been playing the rip off game as much as Apple has. Even Apple knows Intel was ripping them off, hence why Apple made their own in-house CPUs to cut costs on their end. Now is the time Intel really needs to step it up. Only thing keeping them alive now is business side of things but once they look at they need more for 3D rendering and anything involving something like Virtual Reality, they gonna drop Intel like a rock.Yeah maybe someone would say, " you need a GPU in there for that. " but business wants to be efficient. So AMD with The Ryzen will likely get the business deal if Intel fails to improve.

It's nice to see them returning to the old 2018 proportions of the laptop just with a taller screen instead of the huge bezels. I just wish they would return to the old sure view privacy screen technology cause that had 120hz screens with pretty decent pixel response times. Typing this from my 2018 model. Streaming games or even other performance hungry apps on this beauty at 120 fps from my gaming pc while i'm on the go is just breathtaking when you think it's all going through the internet with just a couple ms of latency. Honestly, all these non-ARM based notebooks are just not exciting to me anymore. I want to see MS continue to develop ARM-based Surface products, as well as their own, non-Qualcomm sourced chip. Right now, the M1 MacBook Air, Pro and Mac mini are killing it. Obviously, I'm really excited for the widespread adoption of ARM!
I have a macbookair M1 and I really hate to use Microsoft Office (excel and all family) in my mac. Its Sloooooowww to open. and sometimes figures, graphs and pictures dosnt show in excel. Also I hate to connect an external mouse to my macbook air. Also when I connect an external monitor its all too big compared to Windows.
"it should just be hibernating" uh... there are a tone of people that turn that shit off, and it SHOULD be going into s3 mode and not the stupid as fuck connected standby or low power s0.
Wait, sorry, I'm dum, but how do you go to S3? do you go to the power setting menu the turn the lid close option to hibernating instead of sleep? Thanks
Dunno, I disabled the sleep mode on my PC cause with the SSD it wakes up exactly as fast from hibernation, the only difference being that I have to press the power button.
@@sammipanini s3 is sleep, it specifically defines the power state where only ram is on. It's more power efficient then connected standby and more appropriate for high power laptops and desktops. S0 connected standby is more appropriate for phones and tablets, as those have a greater reliance on information transfer and use far less power while in it then a laptop. Hibernation is often disabled by those that do not wish for their ram be recorded onto traceable media. Let's say you have a private window open, do you really want that recorded to your hard drive or ssd?
@@piciu256 from a security standpoint that's a horrible idea, but I can't blame you if you are more interested in power savings and not cooking the device in your backpack.
I've been really happy with the X360 envy 15" i bought a couple of years ago apart from a couple of major design flaws, in fact i'm typing this on it now. 1. The screen hinges have never been level and so it closes slightly off square. 2. You need to remove the rubber strips off the bottom to access the internals of the laptop. The first issue was a known fault by HP and it seems they fixed it quite quickly in later models the second issue is inexcusable and they are still doing it. I'm sure HP will argue it is done for aesthetic reasons but they need to find another answer because the long rubber feet are so grippy they will literally start to fall off the laptop after a few months if you place it on a hard surface and if you ever open the laptop to upgrade storage/ram or anything else the feet will never go back on properly. I have had to buy stick on rubber feet to replace the original ones which work so much better than the originals.
That's what I did. I have a windows desktop with a 3700X and 2080 super and the m1 macbook air that pairs nicely with my iphone and airpods. No more intel for me

I have the OLED one and i compared it with the same model with Full HD display and i am glad that i didn't settle for the IPS panel. OLED is sooo soo much better than the full HD display. Don't believe me? compare an IPS and an OLED laptop display side by side in the showroom itself and you'll know for yourself! This guy in the video, idk what's wrong with him, but the design is spectacular, its elegant, the metal finish and the semi sharp edges in the gold! i mean what's not to like?

This is a thin and light machine meant for light productivity workloads, not a 15-inch 25mm thick gaming laptop lmao. Even the Zephyrus G14 isn't as slim and light as this.
I got this last Christmas. It is way better than a Macbook Air, because my Macbook Air always had a storage space up to 120GB. The HP Spectre X360 has 920GB
That won't be until September 2021 at the very earliest and probably not until November. There will probably be Zen 3 APUs in laptops around March/April, but those will be higher power H-series and still have Vega graphics, intended to be paired with a discrete GPU. The correct time to buy is when your current hardware can no longer do what you want it to. If that time is now, this laptop appears to be best in class.

I got the OLED version and I can confidently say that the impact on battery life hasn't been noticeable beyond it being at like...15-20% when I plus it in for the night. The battery is insane man.
Would you recommend it ?? Am a master's student,
Just a quick note: That 11mm is almost half an inch. That is an amount that is definitely noticeable when you're typing on your keyboard.
Also: Happy New Year to ShortCircuit and the LTT staff and their family!
6:07 it’s a Windows thing. My Alienware and Surface book 2 work even with a mask
Unless there is some hidden threshold setting that Dell cranked up to be more secure, but HP left very low to make it easier to log-in.
It doesn't work on my asus laptop either. I don't think it's just a dell thing. Other laptops prolly don't unlock with the mask on as well
@@FragFrog01 I think it all comes down to the way we set up the Face ID. There is something called learn recognition which scans your face once more. I’ve done it multiple times (maybe even with a mask) so I guess that helps.

@@T1Ledlie Singlecore Perf. ain't too bad, but they are way too expensive and should have at least 6-8 cores :(
I mean...it's not like there is any other option...the top of the line SKUs in 13-14 inch super portable laptops don't have anything else but your strandard Intel U 4 core CPUs.
Compared to the M1 Apple laptops, all these ultra thin Intel offerings seem too overpriced.

And Alex, if you're having performance issues with SolidWorks, I can almost guarantee it's memory related, not CPU or GPU. My SP7 runs Inventor better than my work PC with a Quadro P3000 and i5-7600 because it has less other crap eating up memory and a much faster SSD for paging.
S0 connected standby is more appropriate for phones and tablets, as those have a greater reliance on information transfer and use far less power while in it then a laptop.

but can it see through sleep masks?
What feet did you buy?

That won't be until September 2021 at the very earliest and probably not until November.
