I would say that the Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan is a series that’s fairly fast paced and action packed if anyone is interested.
This series is all I’ve been thinking about lately! I’m about to start the last book which I want to fly through but at the same time I don’t want it to end, just like what Elle was saying at the start of this video 😆
@@bubblebut005 the ending is great but you’ll definitely miss the characters when it’s over.
That series is sooooo good! I still think Michael J Sullivan is underrated! I mean, for the level of fun his books are, I’d expect more hype.
Yes!!!
I'm reading the Art of Prophecy now. I'm only 180 or so pages in but as someone who has watched a truly egregious amount of wuxia dramas it's been an absolute delight so far. Familiar yet different enough to not become generic and the handling of classic wuxia tropes is great.
An older trilogy that immediately comes to mind is the Powder Mage series by Brian McClellan. The action starts from the prologue and doesnt stop. It is very military-centric though, in case some people are not into that.
I just picked up that trilogy and am really looking forward to reading it. Mixing fantasy and Napoleonic era style military intrigued me.
I would second this. All three novels were very very good and well written.
The Dresden Files series is fast paced and actioned packed too. Loved it.
My favorite series
Kings of the Wylde by Nicholas Eames. Band of retired adventurers recruited back together to save the day one last time. Fast paced, funny, a couple tear jerking scenes to boot. Great read in this category.
This moved Foundryside up my tbr!
I just started Bonesmith and it starts off running!
I just read Godkiller and loved it. I can't wait for the second book now!
I read Art of Prophecy after your first video when you had read it and I absolutely loved it and have the second book preordered!!
I see on the cover it says The War Atrs Saga so it's supposed to have 4 books? Does it end on a cliffhanger?
I have been searching for these EXACT types of books. Thank you for this video!
Based on your recommendation, currently reading: Bonesmith and have ordered the trilogy: Best Served Cold.
Love your recommendations.❤
❤️📚❤️ thanks, some new titles added to my tbr!
My wallet is crying 😢😢at this fantastic video love it prayers and blessings for you and your husband and your beautiful puppy 🐶 love your Aussie family friend John 🧡🧡🧡
Agree on best served cold.
And since Wayne has stolen my heart forever I'm always happy to hear some good words about Wax and Wayne series!
Right now I'm reading Heroes Road by Chuck Rogers it's a standalone adult! fantasy fast-paced novel and I think it's Unique. It's such a shame that the book has so few readers
Best Served was kinda like Kill BIll Abercrombie style. I will say also that I was really surprised how much I enjoyed Mistborn era 2. I held off on reading it for so long but I really loved that series.
Thanks for the recs! I'd like to read a couple of these (Bonesmith, Art of Prophecy).
Thanks for the great recommendations!
I've got to say, my favorite fast paced fantasy series has got to be the Rook and Rose series by M.A. Carrick.
Love this video & the fact that I can pull it up to review when I’m at the library! I agree that Shades of Magic trilogy is action-packed…so good!
All of your recommendations are so good
everytime i watch your videos, i'd increase my tbr list. lol.
I dont enjoy YA writing style but have heard a lot about Divine Rivals, will the writing and story fit for someone who likes adult fantasy?
Curious your thoughts on Xanth, book 1 at least. It was such a fast paced intense experience the entire way through. Absolutely loved that book! Piers is such a master at his craft. I never heard of Foundryside, and I will 100% be looking into it!
Kings of the Wyld was fast paced action and a fun time.
Great book 📖
I like Joe Abercrombie's The Heroes better than Best Served Cold. With that said, I absolutely love the entire series of the First Law universe.
I read Godkiller last week (your rec!) and it was soooo good!!
And the cover is so Fall-ish and made me happy. 🍁
Can add Secret Project #4 to this list. :)
I struggled with Best Served Cold. I found it really slow and meandering and almost DNFd it many many times. 😂
This is a great video Elliott!
Sometimes we all need a fast paced action rife book to balance out slow burns.
What did you mean when referring to Art of Prophecy as campy?
Art of Prophecy is absolutely channeling the vibe of wuxia (historical/martial arts) genre tv/movies of China. It feels like...stronger comedy vibes (sometimes a bit slapstick?) and what can seem like "exaggerated" reactions compared to what is typical in "western style" tv/cinema, then layer that on action/fantasy/adventure. I reference comedic timing, but that doesn't mean the stakes aren't life-or-death high (in both the book and the genre) more just that the sense of comedic timing is a bit different where silly/outrageous things sometimes happen. I would recommend Art of Prophecy too! - just don't expect gritty realism.
@PagesInTheForest you mean like The Malevolent Seven? Campy, comedic like that?
I want to read GodKiller so bad 😤
I don't think they even necessarily appeal to a different kind of reader. I might want a different kind of book for reading in bed and on break at work.
4:25 If you read Best Served Cold, does it spoil the first trilogy in any way?
Yes, especially to the fate of three or four main characters.
@@118khw Thanks 👍🏻
Are the fight scenes/martial arts in Art of the Prophecy written like the fight scenes in Jade City?
Also, I thought for SURE that I saw Art of the Prophecy sold as a duology at B&N!😮😱
There's a second book out now, The Art of Destiny! I don't know if any more are planned, but I'm not surprised they're selling it as a duology.
What about Robin Hobb books ? The apprentice series ?
Robin Hobb's series is not fast paced. Very much the opposite.
I found some of her books DNF'able and I slogged through them.
Very very slow paced
@gossamerabba Agree, I thought I was the only one who felt this way lol
I think I’m the only person that thinks The First Law trilogy is just meh. I disliked pretty much all the characters, the story never really gelled for me and the ending left me cold. Some of the dialogue was cringey and repetitive, too and that was probably the thing that held it back the most for me. I didn’t hate it but it’ll never make it to my top ten list. But despite that, I still want to read Best Served Cold. Go figure.
First❤
foundryside had insane potential but the author screwed up big time.
I think VE Schwab has a tendency to write her female characters with a “not like other girls” angle which really bugs me. I found Delilah so grating in book 2, the series has soured in my feelings since I last read it. Which is a shame because the concept is v cool
Foundryside. Software plus magic. Oh boy. Thank you.
Thanks for the recs! I'd like to read a couple of these (Bonesmith, Art of Prophecy).
