Having talked with Eames before, unless there's an official word from him or the publisher, don't trust online dates. He's been working hard on it though!
Thank you for shouting out dcc! I've been a fan since the start of last year and I'm so glad to see big book tubers giving it some love. Matt deserves it!
I'm still in the last series you recommend, OMG, The Ryrria Revelations are a smoker, I'm in book 3 and there is no sign of those slowing down~!~ Thank you~!~
Oooh I have to agree. Every single one of Michael J Sullivan's books (I've read them all except the Rise and Fall trilogy so far) are incredibly bingeworthy and fantastic, fun, exciting reads. His character work is amazing and engaging.
13:41 I agree. I love the atmosphere and felt like I was there in the Underdark. I read these books back to back a decade ago and loved them all. I think I’ll revisit them now.
Saw the Martian before reading it and I loved both formats but I'm glad I did it in that order. The book elaborates a lot on Watney's ideas and emotional state whilst almost always maintaining that underlying banter. That's the only Weir I've read but you've convinced me to keep reading more of his books with your Project Hail Mary overview.
All these recommendations seem great for me. I've already read 3 DCC books and was gonna recommend it, if it wasn't on the list. Unfortunately, I have exams right now. So I'll read these as soon as I can. Keep making these videos.
Here’s some that I binged: Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianne Wynn Jones The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen Scythe by Neal Shusterman
Greta recommendations! I haven't read Scythe yet but have wanted to for a while so I'll make sure to read it this year! Never heard of The False Prince but the synopsis sounds interesting! 100% agree with Tress and Howl's Moving Castle being good binge-worthy books!
As another recommendation, how about the Vorkosigan series, starting with The Warrior's Apprentice? (Ok there's debate over which to start with, but that's where I began.) I've had to learn to be careful when choosing to pick one up for a re-read, because I instantly get sucked back in and am forced to re-read all my favorite books in the series back-to-back. Those books are dangerous. 😂
My (grown) step-son recommended these to me a few years ago. I have the first couple on audiobook, but they're always stuck behind something else I'm binging.
Jeremy Robinson books like the Infinite Timeline are A+ for engagement. Dude blends Sci-Fi, Greek Mythology, Action, Humor, and just straight fun into his books. Also R.C. Bray does the audio for most of his books.
So, I'm not expecting anyone to read comments from a video made 8 months ago, but I just started the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and I'm OBSESSED! It's fantastic!!! I'm on book 4 and I only started a week ago! I would put a slight trigger warning that if you couldn't do Hunger Games, you might have some issues with this series. But I also encourage people to get through book one, because things do change... but also don't change. I can't quite explain. Also, Drizzt is amazing!
I got Project Hail Mary for christmas and I haven't gotten to it yet but seeing it pop up in this video is making me even more excited now! Also a book that I would say is bingeworthy is ofcourse The Lies of Locke Lamora, it's one of my absolute favorite books ever
If you are in for an even better treat for Dungeon Crawler Carl and Jeff as the already incredible audiobooks on audible (and I'm normally rather the letter reader than the audio hearer), on the Soundbooth theater platform currently the first book is revisioned with completely updated narration, a full cast (though Jeff maintaines the most iconic roles), and sound effects. Even if you listened to the audible, I find it a treat. Currently the first book is made available, if enough support is shown, this series continues.
I started Dungeon Crawler Carl a few weeks ago and I'm on Audiobook 4. I'm TEARING through these. I'm usually not a huge fan of LitRPGs due to how the game aspects are largely implemented but I love how they do it here. Not too many Stats/Game Mechanics (it feels more like a real world with game flare. No damage numbers even if they have other aspects and stuff like that.) It's just fun, funny and some of the serious moments really get to me, and I love it.
I binge read the justice of kings last year and it was my top favorite book of last year. Currently binge reading blood over bright haven which is the perfect binge read. I highly recommend both these books. The audiobook of justice of kings is spectacular and works really well when Doing a tandem read.
I love the "Alex Verus" stories by Benedict Jacka. There are ten shortish books in this finished series, and they follow the career of the London-based wizard Alex Verus. The fast pace, action level, and first person narration are quite reminiscent of The Dresden Files, but there's a lot of soul-searching about the nature of wizard society and how all that magical power should be used (Jacka was a philosophy major at Cambridge, so, yeah. A bit dark.) The angsty protagonist has become one of my favorite characters in fantasy. The first book in the series is called "Fated."
The Will of the Many by James Islington is an amazing book that’s a little slow in the begging, but once it picks up I felt like it just kept going. Great characters, constant suspense and a plot that just hooks you more and more the further you get. Highly recommend!
Dresden Files by Jim Butcher should absolutely fit into this category! The writing style of the urban fantasy is fast paced and engaging, but the most binge-worthy thing is that every book seems to get better whilst continuing to develop the world and characters. It starts small in scale and grows from there, so rather than being dumped into an epic and forced to learn 100 characters you start with one man and a first person POV - the titular wizard detective Harry Dresden - and the world slowly builds up around him. Truly binge-worthy because every book draws you further into the world and makes you care more about the characters that it gradually layers into Harry's life. But never at any point getting flabby and losing the economy of style. Plus there are 18 books so far! I was ordering two at a time as I was reading them because I was getting through them so fast and didn't want to left waiting for my next instalment. Another suggestion would be Rivers Of London by Ben Aaronovitch (Midnight Riot in the US). Really well written London-based urban fantasy again with a fast-paced first person POV. This centers around Peter Grant, a young policeman who becomes an apprentice wizard in the Met Police's special magicial division.
Is Dresden files more like each book is contained within its own story, kinda like a James Bond with more continuity? Or is there more of an overarching connected story across the series?
It may or may not be for forte, but do you have any romance or romance subplot recommendations for my gf? She loves to read, but always starts books and doesn't get hooked or finish them. She liked Fourth Wing and Mistborn. Started Sword of Kaigan and DNF after ~50 pages.
Definitely need to check some of these books out. Heard too many good things from different people to not be interested. After Stormlight 5. I've done the math, and to read (most of) the Cosmere, its 32 pages a day until Dec. 5th. (not counting 3 of the Secret Projects, or White Sand the graphic novel) That's my goal for reading this year. Everything in the Cosmere is new to me other than the SA books. (if I dont re-read SA, its 18 pages a day, which is crazy since that's only 4 books).
Really liking the binge worthy vids! Going to give Dungeon Crawl Carl a go. Some books I’ve binged: Ready Player One Jurassic Park (both books in the series are good) The Great Coats series The Will of the Many
I think it'd be fair to include Locke Lamora in this as I found it very bingeable (at least the first book I tried), as well as the Chronicles of Narnia and the Neverending Story and His Dark Materials and any Wies/Hickman Dragonlance and the Deathgate Cycle.

Great recs! I recommended Cradle in my previous Binge-Worthy video and I can't agree more, that series is really fast paced and fun. I haven't read war for the rose throne but will definitely need to check it out

Drizzt really needs to be read maximum a trilogy or a quartet at a time. I once tried to go through the whole series and by the time I got to book 10 I got so burned out I ended up in a 3 month reading slump...
Yes I agree, I think binging through a trilogy works great, but trying to binge through all of Drizzt will result in burn out 😅
It is a crime to not mention red rising as one of, nay, THE, best sci-fi book series
