I'm getting one of these soon so I decided to watch this video and wow. No regrets there. You get to the point and are good at doing it with a small bit of comedy on the side. You've gained a sub from me.
Great review bro. I didn’t realise it had a 2kg weight limit. That’s crazy. I was thinking of getting one to mount my DSLR in the studio but wasn’t sure of it’s weight capacity. 2kg for the win! Sold!!!
yo a tip for you, you should do a slam test, is where you slam your desk and see if the noise of your slam is alot and the vibrations it follows up the mic stand
Hey, Shane. I really enjoy your videos, mate. Quick question please. If I buy this Rode PSA1 arm, can you suggest a dynamic mic w/ XLR and USB functionality? I record my audio on a Zoom H6 separate from my computer. However, I also run USB from the mic (ATR2100) to the PC so my guest/s can hear me on Skype etc. My ATR2100 is almost dead after about seven years. The mic must be compatible w/ the PSA1 if at all possible. Thanks again.
Great review. I bought one for my SM7B. But as you are moving it very far from the mounting point, mine cannot move there and “springs” back. Is there something I’m missing? Like this it is not usable for me since the mounting position is too far away….
It would really be nice to get a measurement of the full length of each arm, to get an idea of the angle. If I'm correct after watching so many videos trying to guess what it is, I'm going to say about 22" each, so about 44" fully extended, Am I correct? Thanks. Also that little piece you drill a hole in your desk for is exactly what I need. Thanks for the video.
Just drill that desk, you are always going to be using a mic, right? I think the inserts can work without drilling with those standard interchangeable desk inserts that some office desks have for cable management etc
I just bought this one too. But my my mic is not that heavy and i cannot fix the position i want. I watched a video on YT and the guy refered to screw more the first of the 3 circles-joints and that worked for this part of the boom arm, but i want the other 2 circles to be fully manually directed and i cant do that.Any help maybe?
Recommendations on shock mounts for this particular mic? The one specifically designed for this mic is just a bit too bulky and wanted something a bit smaller?
Hey, i have a question. In my shop there is two types of boom arms. The rode psa1 is around 80 dollars and there is a svive hydra for 40 dollars. Both of the microphones has a lot of happy reviews. Because i live 2 places i need move each week. That means that i need 2 of them. Is it worth buying the rode psa1 for the dobble price of the svive hydra?
I haven't tried the Hydra before. If that is built well it might be a good option given it's cheaper but the build quality of the Rode is pretty bulletproof so far.
It makes a little bit of noise because it's spring loaded but it's minimal. You hear it kind of slide internally a hair. Nothing that ruins a podcast for me at least. I am pretty sure I showcased it in the video. :)
Mine are both pretty silent. Maybe spray some WD40 or similar in the areas it's squeaking or just have it replaced if you can. They should be fairly silent.
There's nothing to stop you using most microphones for anything. This has a bit of a sizzly sound to it though which works better for spoken voice. It may just require a little EQ at the end of tracking.
Moving it around would be a huge paint but if you are seated between two mics you might be able to use a dual diaphragm condenser mic to make it work (or a $10 desk microphone stand)

Thank you! :)
This is so cool. I've always seen your guitar stuff but this is the first time I've seen your other channel.
Seriously such an amazing review for such an overlooked mainstream everyday item. Thanks so much for this, really helped. Appreciate it!
Thanks for watching. If you have any questions please let me know. I hope you like the new studio setup! No more dining room videos haha 🤣
I like that shade of blue, looks good against the wood top desk.
Thanks, Paul! :)

Love the video, you made me lean all the way and made me buy the psa1, i really apreciate what you do and have a great day!

Just bought two of these. Awesome review, cheers.
Such an awesome review. Subscribed...

Got one for 30$ used and comes with phantom power supply and a mic+shock mount which i don't need. Great deal.
Can the end fully rotate to be pointing straight down? I'd like to use it with my mobile phone adapter to shoot overhead product shots.
Good review. Thanks. Would have liked to see how compact it can be for a smaller space.
it really is a great arm. im so glad i chose this one!
Love the video Shane! I have two of them already and love them! May I know what desk is that? Looks like Toro from OfficeWorks?
It's the 1800mm Toro! Great catch haha. :)
Such a good review. I was wondering what the rode mic was called?
Rode Procaster :)
Saying HI to you SHANE - we are all watching your show right this second - looking good !!!! PeterGreggLive 👍
Thanks, Peter! Sorry I missed your live stream I was out of the house. :)

Hi, how did you connect your protester to the boom arm without shock mount? I was waiting for you to mention this on this video. thanks in advanced!
The procaster comes with a mic clip in the box. I just used that :)
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Thank you so much! :)
Really helpful review. Thanks!
is there a technique to adjusting the top arm? or do you just have to go by how much your mic weighs?
Excellent review. Thanks
Hahaha pro studio arm “I’m an idiot” haha I’m dead. Love it mate!!!
Good review... but I went for Yellowtec Mika Indicator stand not the cheapest but like their design best

I got 3 of them now.

the clip it comes with is really small. You don't really need a shock mount for these mics if they are elevated off the desk.
Nice set up 😏
Thanks! Come round and let's put it to use soon! x
great review

Does this boomarm make any noise when you move it if you’ve used it for a year(s) or so?
It makes a little bit of noise because it's spring loaded but it's minimal. You hear it kind of slide internally a hair. Nothing that ruins a podcast for me at least. I am pretty sure I showcased it in the video. :)
1:40 - Correction: the maximum weight supported is 1.1 kg. I think you were reading the weight of the product, not the max weight supported.
Thanks for that! :)
My PSA1 is squeaky as hell ! Not sure the best way to oil it (or if that is even advised ?)
Mine are both pretty silent. Maybe spray some WD40 or similar in the areas it's squeaking or just have it replaced if you can. They should be fairly silent.
Does this work with the HyperX Quadcast with the school mount still on?
Which mic are you recording on in this video?
Rode Procaster. I said it under 20 seconds in.
I would make a piece of rubber at the mouth that is mounted directly under the table to prevent bouncing just to be sure
What's that attachment you use to secure your mic to the boom arm?
It's a mic clip it comes with the mic.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Thank you. :)
Razer seiren min support?
hi what audio interface are you using here with the Procaster?
I can't remember but the odds are it was plugged directly into my XLR adapter for my camera. I got the Rodecaster Pro about 2 weeks after this :)
it can record and love the song or not🤔🤔
I am not sure what you just asked me sorry?
Could you use it for vocals?
There's nothing to stop you using most microphones for anything. This has a bit of a sizzly sound to it though which works better for spoken voice. It may just require a little EQ at the end of tracking.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy this is good to know, thank you 😊
Is only 1 enough for podcasts? If you Just move it around ..otherwise 2 bit expensive
Moving it around would be a huge paint but if you are seated between two mics you might be able to use a dual diaphragm condenser mic to make it work (or a $10 desk microphone stand)
I've just spent 15 minutes on reminding myself and searching where the fuk I've seen you before xD intheblues!
The arm sucks if your mic is light the arm will not be able to be adjusted and will just remain extended
sadly my mic is to light to hold down microphone
6:09 thats what she said
Can you give away that to me
It's really awkward when he moves the arm....
