In this episode of the L3 Leadership Podcast, Mike Tomlin shares what he’s learned about being a Dad, his message to Dads in general, why adversity is a good thing and more.
About Mike Tomlin: Mike Tomlin was named the 16th head coach in Pittsburgh Steelers history on January 22, 2007. Hired at the age of 34, Tomlin became only the third head coach hired by the Steelers since 1969. In his 14 seasons as head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tomlin has accomplished many things that have never been done in the team's storied history. A franchise known for stability at the head coaching position, Tomlin ranks among the League's longest-tenured active head coaches entering the 2021 season.
Mike also founded the ManUp conference 10 years ago in partnership with the Urban Impact Foundation.
    4 Key Takeaways:
    1. Mike talks about his involvement with ManUp Pittsburgh, and why it’s important to him.
    2. He talks about what’s on his heart for ManUp this year.
    3. Adversity brings about an opportunity to get better.
    4. In The Lightning Round, Mike shares the best advice he’s ever received and his biggest leadership pet peeve.
    Quotes From the Episode:
“I’ve learned to embrace the misery associated with failure and adversity and I realize that there’s always a silver lining within it and an opportunity to learn and get better.”
“The more uncomfortable I am, the greater the growth opportunity.”
    “Head down and working.”
“Don’t be afraid to lead with your heart.”

I pray I'm afforded an hour with Coach Tomlin someday soon. I'm a grandson, son, biological father, adoptive father, step father, and nephew...but because of events I am a man in despair and disabled. I was once a promising young athlete and well-spoken leader. I've lost everything from relationships to possessions (twice) and I'm having a hard time dealing with it. Each Father's Day is brutal.

Then hit him up, some way or another, I'm sure he'll respond. I'm sorry for all that you've been/still going through. I will pray for you and please, please don't give up/lose your faith in God, he isn't through with you/us yet, believe that💙🙏🏼☮

I am glad to see Mike Tomlin giving back to our community by supporting Urban Impact. Coming from a broken home explains some of his approach to his team. Nothing against Mike, but to insist that step fathers need to Man Up to support the bad decisions of woman seems to be a bit misplaced. Most of the problems with fatherless urban youth should rightfully be placed at the feet of women's bad decisions and the radical feminist movements that insist that men as unnecessary and superfluous. Urban Impact should be having Woman Up seminars instead.

Unfortunately as human beings we make mistakes in life. It’s all about how you bounce back. Proverbs 24:16-18
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
