  • So, if your log splitter suddenly STOPS WORKING SUDDENLY and the hydraulic cylinder's piston won't move in either direction, it could be this same issue. This is where replacing the pump to engine coupler will fix the problem. This is a common problem and fixing the drive couplers and spider gear are a cheap and pretty easy solution.

    SUPER VIDEO. I never thought about taking the GAS motor off. Made the repair so much easier even though I already figured out the problem with the spider coupling.

    Thanks alot for the info!!! Got a 27 ton ariens and never had a problem until it just stopped. After your video looked under hydraulic motor and yep coupling apart. Ariens makes it really easy to access. Took cover off, slid coupling together with screwdriver and tightened set screw. 5 min later splitting wood

    I've split 5 cords through it so far. Does what I need it to. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUyQswtttSffRMblGbrhCvZn7JkhtG1-7 I scrounge all my firewood and am not equipped to handle big wood, but for logs up to 24 inch diameter or so, it works great. I've been amazed by some of the gnarly bur oak and elm crotches it has split. For the tougher stuff within it's size range, you might have to study the piece a bit to decide the best attack, but if you split smart it's up to the job. It did arrive low on oil, and I was would have nicked it half a star for that, but it has regained my full confidence. UPDATE NOVEMBER 2021: Still going strong after all these years. I love the one-handed operation. Hope it's still in production if I ever need to replace it

    I have a 40 ton log splitter last week at Blew a seal anyway I pulled it apart only to find the nut that goes on the end of the shaft for the ram was almost loose clearly when it was made they did not tightened up enough it is taking almost 20 years but it had about 3 turns left before falling off so in a way I was glad I found the problem before it became a problem that coupler looks like a silly design mine bolt straight to the motor

    The L095 series of coupler is not overkill for that engine and pump, it is actually the correct selection. The original coupler was an L075 series which is actually under sized for the application, even though that is what the manufacturer of the splitter selected. They cut corners to save just a few dollars, and this is why these couplers fail so often on these inexpensive splitters.
    On your other splitter with the 12 horsepower engine the L095 series coupler is undersized for that application. That coupler should be an L100 series.

    Biggest issue I've seen with these is misalignment between the motor and pump. It applies side load to the coupling and will wear those parts prematurely as well as the shaft bearings in the motor and pump. The whole setup is kinda garbage. I opted to convert my splitter to horizontal shaft which is a much better option.

    my cylinder moves in and out with ease . DR 22 ton. I replaced hyd fluid and filter this year. It worked for a while . now the ram still goes out and in, but the unit will not split wood. the engine runs fine. Briggs 875.

      Possibly a tired pump, or possibly a partially faulty control valve.

  • @clbclb2664

    Does it mean the pump is Ceased if it won't pull after replacing all that ?

    • @notoriousJPG
      @notoriousJPG  11 месяцев назад

      You should be able to turn the pump. That could be an engine issue too.

    I have a Huskee 22-ton splitter. While splitting a truckload, it all of the sudden just stopped splitting like it had no power. Also, during the process of retracting the ram, the handle will not jump back into neutral position on its own. The engine just bogs down and I have to knock the handle into neutral manually. Have you had this issue before?

    • @notoriousJPG
      @notoriousJPG  3 года назад

      Sounds like your splitter has a control valve problem. You can take it apart or just replace the whole unit most likely that would fix your issue.

    Thanks for the video - I'm currently suffering with this exact problem - got the motor off & the pump off - can't get the durn coupler pieces off - stuck like crazy - soaked everything in WD-40 and left it overnight - we'll see if it comes loose, and already stripped out two allen wrenches and only got one of the screws loose :( Anyway - where did you get that part? I need the exact same one, and the TroyBilt brand is pricey ... any tips on removing a stuck part also helpful, thanks in advance.

    • @byronmill

    Well this guy spends about the first two minutes babbling and repeating himself over and over again about if you're wrong splitter has this problem so just go ahead and fast forward to almost 2 minutes into the video so you don't have to listen to him repeat himself over and over
