SKILLET - UNLEASHED / 2016 / ATLANTIC RECORDING COMPANY / NU-METAL, INDUSTRIAL ROCK, ALTERNATIVE METAL, CHRISTIAN METAL, CRINGE METAL
Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
I thought the title said "Skrillex" and I was like "ohhhhhhh boy" then I realized it was Skillet and was like "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOOOOOOOOUUOOUUUUOOY"

i feel like this is how people find out about Skillet.
Lol i think that happened to me as well.

Holy FUCK perfect
Alexander Piloto I couldn’t agree more, Alex. You summed it up perfectly. Same with the guy who mentioned that the song at 2:01 (known as ‘Feel Invincible’) sounds like something that would be used for a WWE PPV event (and it was used for one). Ahhh this is great!

It's no Limp Bizkit that's for sure.
That's because Skillet is one of the like 5 bands WWE has on speeddial

It sounds like songs they get to be the theme for WWE Pay Per Views.
They are... Feel Invincible was just featured in the last one
Da9ny Fuck i thought so. I watched Battleground the other day so thats probably why i thought it.
Because it totally is. Skillet had a song on the Raw vs. Smackdown 2009 video game, as I recall.
2 of their songs were in Smackdown vs RAW 2010 ffs.
I would take this tripe over Sami Zayn's theme song any day of the week.

Based on how much you've moved on from Skillet, I expected you to be pleased with this review. I guess you were.
@@ThatOneGuy7550, so what if he has a different opinion than you? It doesn't make him trash. Every one is entitled to their own opinion, but people ALWAYS seem to slam Jon because of his opinions and say he's wrong. That's when I say if you're watching his videos just to rant at him, go to another video and keep your thoughts to yourself.
@@InkAndPoet I don't think people slam Jon because of his opinions, I'd say it's more because his reviews aren't that detailed. They're pretty surface level, and he has a tendency of going for insults rather constructive criticism (the 6ix9ine video, his worst songs of the year lists). They aren't even remotely as detailed as Melon's. That doesn't make his videos bad (I'm subscribed to both of his channels), but he isn't a great reviewer. That's just my opinion though.

That's an odd request. Why?

Just kidding. It seems like the kind of cringe humor on his other channel, thatistheplan, honestly. I don't hate Anthony or his other channel or Trans people, and I don't think he has any hate. It's just all I can think of anytime he does a transition that doesn't follow through. Like when on this one where he goes "Trans-" and when it cuts he didn't say "-sition".
I like it.
+Lois Cook
dope
I hate that shit though.
As someone who grew up in the church (son of the pastor), I'd have to say that I've almost completely grown out of religious music. Even if something sucks there will always be that overly positive annoying person saying "well it's for God" as if that somehow makes it any better.
Most of the Christian music today is incredibly lackluster and super cheesy with songs that have pretty bad songwriting, it's basically a watered down version of what's on mainstream radio but with religious themes, as if radio music isn't watered down enough. But the listeners convince themselves that it's better than secular music because it's made for God. To me it's like someone that only watches the WNBA and swears that it's better than the NBA because somehow the NBA is wrong. I'd rather listen to music that is legitimately well put together and well-written rather than a mediocrity that is dedicated to a deity.
Funcrusher Plus beats religious music any day. Props to you. Hell of an album. 💕
What kinda music are you into? I could make some suggestions for music with Christian themes and influence made by people who do not suck. Also for the record I hate and have always hated Skillet and acts like them
+John Joyce I've only ever enjoyed black gospel when it comes to religiously-influenced music, tbh. Anything else is a turn off.
I love soul and gospel music so I feel you there. I was wondering more about your broader taste. You a rock guy? Hip-hop?
If anything, shouldn't God be pissed that he's only getting the crappy songs? We've fallen far from the days of gospel music and Handel.
*Skillet in general: NOT GOOD*
listen to hero and monster
+Ragtag General not good
"Listen to hero and monster" is this supposed to convince us rofl
They have a few decent tracks but overall nothing too good
Alien Youth was a pretty solid album. Nothing mind blowing but it's a decent, easy listen. Way better than Awake at least.
I'd prefer a painfully low score for these album reviews, rather than a NOT GOOD.
This. I'd also prefer it if "NOT GOOD" to be plastered onto the thumbnail. I enjoy Anthony's content but if I wasn't familiar with it what would compel me to watch the review if I already know the verdict?
+Volcanis3D not good is less than a zero
You should be watching fantano for his opinion on the aspects of a record, not the score. These mindless fans think that rating means everything. It doesn't. Many records he has given a 6-7 on that he says would not have been rated so high if they did not have a "saving grace" or something like that. That's the point of the channel imo.
I think his full reviews require more commitment from him and more analysis. This series seems to be a lighter overview of bad albums not worth the time
Imagine less than 5.
Skillet is even more cliche than three days grace has become. I can't stand them, and I used to love that type of music.
Same, but there's a still a handful of TDG songs(from before Gontier left) that I like to listen to. Especially their cover of The Chain
One-X was an amazing album but I have to agree. They should have disbanded after Adam Gontier left and they got a new singer.
I used to listen to all those bands back in the day but I just can't stand it now.

Does anyone else get the feeling; that when you look at your typical Christian "rocker" there is this undeniable feeling of it being all affectation? The tattoos, facial hair "choices," their clothing, all feels like what an advertising firm would categorize as the "rocker look." None of it feels natural, it all reeks of calculation.
Anyone else get this impression?
Yes all the time, it's hilarious. Nothing wrong with being religious and into rock music, but these dudes try too hard
Hitless? Awake and Alive, Monster, Hero, Rise, Not Gonna Die, Feel Invincible, Sick of It, all of them charted
I saw skillet live a few months ago and I’m pretty sure the singer’s bass wasn’t even plugged in, he would constantly stop and you could never really tell what he was playing
That's way too funny to only have 2 likes as a comment
@@CoingamerFL I can’t prove it but it seemed to me that he wasn’t playing at all, he’d stop to clap and do hand gestures but I never noticed a change in sound.
When he did play it looked like quarter notes or less, very weak and scarce bass for a rock band, even worse than some of the most amateur and unskilled of pop rock/punk bassists . Why not hire a pro and just sing?
in my local high school, there's actually a ton of scene christian kids. i've tried sort of befriending them because what the hell but all they talk about is andy biersack and skillet. idk man
yep, 2010s in action boy boy
Wait, Andy Biersack? From Black Veil Brides? I thought that music was pretty blatantly godless lol, what with them tapping into the whole gothic metal style with even more pentagrams and burning fires and shit
I guess the cliche rebellious attitude isn't too far from Skillet, though I do think BVB pulls it off miles better
@@MyoticTesseract yeah, I don’t know how Christian rock fans can also listen to BVB and not pick up on the fact that it’s the exact opposite of the rest of the shit they listen to💀 the first track on Set The World On Fire, the song New Religion, is basically an anthem for standing against religious oppression, and the album after that, Wretched and Divine, is literally an ENTIRE concept album based on fighting an oppressive group called F.E.A.R. (For Every and All Religion), so how the hell anyone missed those obvious things, I have no idea
Wow this band is like the definition of over produced radio rock.
I didn't listen the entire album, but... "Feel Invincible" was great imo, as well as "Back from the Dead" and "The Resistance". I don't know what's wrong with these songs...?

i found them on a bad piggies music video
Although I do like the track "Feel Invincible", and I haven't really listened to the entire album as of yet, I do have to say a few things.
1. Skillet has always been a Christian Rock band. That's what I've always heard them labeled as, so you can't exactly fault them on using lyrics connected to their faith.
2. Although they were trying to fit into the Nu Metal genre in the first half of the 2000s, their material from 2006 to 2013 was actually really good in my opinion. They still had a Nu Metal type sound and were very successful with it. However their newer stuff has been more techno than rock.
But yeah. It's all a matter of opinions
I thought Collide was their best work, with a very grungy and grainy metal sound. Had a lot of duds leading up to it tho early in the band's career. Comatose was decent, Awake was more mainstream but was still good, then it went downhill from there in my opinion
I don't care if it's not "up to date" or "not a fab anymore". I LOVE SKILLET
