Metallica should have dropped some of the songs from Reload (and maybe one or two from Load) and just made one double album. But I guess to wanted to make even more money by releasing two separate albums.

@@Falxifer95 Thing is, FM rock radio itself is dying. Stations will rarely play new songs past a few weeks and instead just play "Whatever" or "Voodoo". It's why Muse is considered a one-hit wonder band.
This is an album that brings back the exact feeling I had of standing at the edge of the dancefloor in a rock club in 2002 with an overpriced watered down beer in my hand watching some idiot with no top on and abs flailing his arms around and thinking "wow. This scene has died. And I hate everyone in here. It's time to move on." It's the sound of that.

HasanJF This. It’s why I hate when people call Deftones Alt-Metal. It’s like, guys they’ve really morphed into more of a post-hardcore band over the years (although I would argue they were barely a nu-metal band back in the day).

This album sounds like something I would enjoy in primary school
I went to a concert of theirs a few years back because I was offered some free tickets. The frontman was shitfaced and got really angry about the quality of the crowd that night, and decided to leave early. They did have like a 10 minute dueling drummers session which was pretty cool.

I never liked Godsmack and people judged me for it in high school. More and more I feel like I was right all along.
Yeah, back in the early 2000s, this genre was at the top of its game. They weren't the biggest out there, but they were known IF you were one of the kids who liked Rock music. At that time it was either you liked rock or rap and there was very little crossover.
They have some good songs but they are not an album band at all. Gets tired after awhile

I saw them live twice back in the day. They were actually really fun live in all honesty. Not a great band and I mostly liked them because I was an edgy kid, but I can't help but have some nostalgia for their older stuff.

The "distortion" vocal effect works pretty well in some cases. It's just a tool in the ol' toolbox. It does not work here.
The reason why the filter effect on the voice is so overused is because Opeth made it cool for prog-metal bands to use it. Some people call it the Akerfeldt effect because of that, or the telephone effect.
Seriously, most of the reason why bands use that effect is because it sounds so good on Ghost Of Perdition.
