      It is kinda funny at first until you consider the victim is getting scammed not because of the usual reason of greed but simply for being kind of a dope. Actually, the ones that go after the elderly are the absolute worst. They prey on old people by making them think that they (the old person) has caused some problem by being old and confused. Most likely the old person has had issue before where they have gotten confused and caused some problem for someone. So now when the "IRS" calls them they feel bad and don't want to cause any more trouble so they send up falling for the scam.

    • @mchapman132
      @mchapman132 3 года назад +9

      @@sharonjuniorchess - technically, it’s not the IRS’ responsibility to prevent scammers. The IRS does state, in most form letters, the procedure how they contact people. If you notice on your federal tax form, there is a line for a phone contact number. You will definitely know if you have an issue with your taxes. CP2000’s are mailed out about 15-18 months after a filing. It takes that long for payers to submit info (W-2’s, 1099 ‘s etc) for comparison with a filed return. Any discrepancy will be calculated and a proposed bill sent out. If you disagree with the bill, you answer the notice and work with the examiner. If you wish to be contacted by phone, you can give a number to be reached. You will know if you can expect a call.
      The IRS will never call and threaten with an immediate arrest unless you pay over the phone. By the time a disputed tax liability has gotten to arrest, or property seizure, many notices and actions have taken place.
      Also, never give your SS# over the phone to a supposed IRS employee……….the IRS has ALL your info.

      She gave her full name, address, dob, SS#, mother’s maiden name, and banking info to a stranger over the phone who said he was calling from Social Security. She had several thousand dollars stolen from her account.

      @sharonjuniorchess 3 года назад

      @@mchapman132 that is very difficult for the family. Having worked in IT & Telecoms I believe it is not beyond the wit of Banks Phone Companies & Computer Network Providers to take advantage of technology and wrap extra protection around vulnerable clients to make it harder and raise alerts due to suspicious activity. Whilst elderly people can be given the feeling that they are in control there are additional checks & balances that could be deployed to flag up warnings & alerts that would slow down the process and allow others to check out what is going on before the transactions are processed. By profiling scammer behaviour it should be possible to flag up these incidents across the whole country as they happen & to send some sort of warning/alert to both the individuals their closest relative & even their Bank.
