That CRTC employee said it without saying it. "We spend most of our day gossiping and enjoying long lunches the taxpayers pay for. I don't know how we can find time to actually do our jobs".
And having lots, and lots of meetings at that beautiful huge meeting table. The CRTC just like the USA's DNC lists are noting but paper tigers, run by government bureaucrats buying their time til they can collect their pensions.

A couple things I do when they call -act like i speak Spanish then English again -try to sell them car insurance -or do an Indian accent and say I’m like 2 booths down don’t call me
The best way to deal with them is to make your phone a paid line. You rake in cash while the telemarketers think that they're coming closer to making a sale. It's worked for several people in the states and one guy even gets an extra USD$500 or more every month because of it.
Typical worthless government agency that has no problem collecting taxes, but does everything they can just like this lady to make excuses. And you can see in her eyes, she can careless, 'we are the government, what are YOU going to do about it, nothing.' Governments have no purpose and are useless!!
@@kevincow1448 not bad! Even funnier, I live in a country where the company pays wages that you can live off. Thus eliminating the need for tipping. After all they employed you, they can pay you. Novel idea I know. 🤣 Sorry mate, I'm from Australia and get tired of hearing about people not paying their tips and the staff being short changed. Here the staff wages are factored into the price, and you can still tip! Winner, winner!
I like to spend around 15 minutes making them think they’re going to get a sale then tell them they have wasted their time and invite them to try again any time.
too bad some telemarketers operate differently in other parts of the world. In HK, every 5mins a telemarketer can hold a conversation with you, they get a little over 70USD. so, cancel the call at 4min 50 sec lol.
And you are psychic and have a way of tracking them down. You obviously didn't get the message that they are "virtually" untraceable, and good luck on convictions in a lot of countries, especially 3rd world, even if they have a lot of computer literate people there.
I have seriously said, in my best Indian accent “hello, you have reached someone who does not want to be telemarketed. Please waste someone else’s time.” to these telemarketers.
1.Get rid of that 50’s style rotating phone 2. Get a house phone with CALLER ID 3. Throw That phone in the trash as well. 4. Install a scam blocking app on your cell phone, no one uses house phones anymore
I use binary. It's a five digit code I can do with either hand. Some people only use the index finger. Ancient civilizations from the 1940s to the 1950s called it the finger. In BINARY it's either on or it's off. My phone is off.

The Governments around the world could easily end this by imposing sanctions on countries like India, Pakistan, Nigeria etc. until they fix their mess within their countries. But unfortunately, it's not on their priorities list.

The spokes lady from the CRTC is quick to tell everyone what a good a job they are doing, but slow at REALLY doing something about Telemarketers who violate the rules. Like almost all Government Bureaucrats her number one concern is her paycheck; as long as it's coming in, she couldn't care less if the agency is doing anything. These people believe the real job of the CRTC is to provide them with a job. Years ago during Lyndon Johnson's war on poverty a local "charitable" group in my home town was given a one million Dollar grant from the Federal Government to help elevate poverty in their community. After over a year had passed, the ten people who ran the "charity" had a nice office, but nothing else to show for the million dollars that had been spent. An audit showed some of the money had been spent on renting the furnished office, and the rest had been pocked by the "charity " workers. At their trial for theft of grant funds, the defendants claimed they had helped ten families get off welfare; THEIR ten families. They went to jail for a while, and when they got out they rejoined their families who had gone back on welfare. The CRTC is much like that "charitable" organization.
I usually give them two.. maybe three chances to take me off their list.. after that, I start having fun with the calls. My favorite are the "Microsoft Tech Support" ones.
I've gotten so upset over phone numbers I don't recognize, I do not ANSWER the phone UNLESS I recognize the number calling me, although most of the time I tell everyone that I know to leave me a message, and I will call you right back if I'm home....and this works better for me.
two ways to stop this 1. do not engage with them, put down the phone once you know who they are 2. keep them on the phone as long as possible, waste as much of their time as possible. Get them to spend a log time thinking they are getting what they want, then tell them you are wasting their, they wont call you again
But that doesn't STOP them. You can hang up or string them along, which is great, but they stil call back. I think the dilemma is trying to figure out a way to stop the calls from happening in the first place & not just finding a way of dealing with them after they've called you.
+Cameron Finch They will call you back if you keep them on the phone as they're getting paid of course to be on the phone your not. I hardly get phone calls from them cause when they call i just hang up. That was last year and only at least 1 call a month.

I wonder if CRTC is getting some sort of kick backs from these call centres. The first thing they need to do is to stop spoofing. I have had calls from some of these companies from my own number. If you are a Canadian company and your number is used this way, your company's name appears on a call display. How is that for ruining your reputation.
ingoleg oleg This happened to me too. I received an angry message on my phone from the person telling me to stop trying to call them about a cruise and I let them know that they were being scammed and not by me. It was awful to know that not only was I being spam called by local numbers that likely belonged to other people, but that it was happening with my number as well. This is horrible that this program was done years ago but nothing has changed, if not it has become worse.
ingoleg oleg Spoofing should be illegal. Some collection agencies are spoofing too. People have no idea that their phone number is being used to harass people until they get irate calls from people. Nobody does anything about it.
ingoleg oleg The Problem is the CRTC needs to get up off their ass and do something. If the CBC was able to track these guys down the CRTC should be able to as well. They just want to collect a paycheck and not do anything. I have filed a complaint with the CRTC before about excessive violence on daytime TV they did absolutely nothing. The workers there just collect a government pension and a government paycheque THATS IT!

good plan ... or at least make it illegal for companies to use telemarketers that don't follow the law - do them for conspiracy to circumvent the DNC list regulations.
Fete Fatale Its already illegal. And people really do need to clean air ducts, but thats a service thats done when needed and not done when the salesmen wants.
Or just launch a massive education programme to let everyone know about their scams.. That way if no one buys from them they go out of business. Problem solved
I always answer the same thing to telemarketers....."Thank you for calling Dominoes where you get a large pizza and a second pizza half price. Pick up or delivery Bro?" I never hear from the same marketer twice. My wife and kids always laugh at this.
Just let your friends know that your screen your calls and never pick up your phone let it go straight to the answering machine. In about eight months the calls will start trickling off as you get struck from their call lists.
Speak very softly and they'll think something is wrong with their headsets and will turn up the volume Then blast an air horn and they'll stop calling REAL fast
I usually play the role of a confused old man who asks the caller a lot of questions. Then I confuse them but asking dumb questions about their replies; always being courteous but seemingly confused. I waste as much time as possible for them until they give up and hang up on me. It is fun to hear the frustration in their voices.
I actually act and I can do great kid voices and impressions but the sick thing is they sometimes start getting sexual and ask what kind of underwear I'm wearing.. >_
CBC did the phone ringing to bring the effect of constant calls into reality. Even though you get that people get constant calls, CBC makes the effect annoying so you really understand.
You are absolutely correct. There is no system they have where they can ADD a number on any list that says, DNC. Read my other comments left here that will explain WHY or HOW they get your number!
I'm fascinated how a company can hire people selling a service it doesn't provide, which means it generates no revenue. How the hell are companies like this actually making any income?

I still don't see how they can shut down a call center in India if they can't even extradite most people for murder. You have a weird misunderstanding of how things work on earth.
I think we should record each call and email the file to the CRTC. There are a lot of phone aps that automatically record every phone conversation, I have it on my cell.
@@tcolondovich2996 They're still a business, and like any business, they'll only invest in a plan that is profitable, meaning they're scoring sales from customers falling for their calls. @@pieRana Fair enough, although I'd like to add: People don't usually listen to advice unless forced to. They might still have enough business even with an educated population that they wouldn't go out of business completely. Not to mention how many countries this happens in. This happened in japan about 10 years ago , the problem lasted 2 months . They found the equivalent company in Japan of Via Communications , the telephone companies disclosed their addresses (no confidentiality in Japan when the police asks for it) and the police wiped them out in a week. 20 years time of jail for the CEO and his associates with no right of extradition and parole , all the employees got sacked and the ones who were not Japanese were sent back to their country with their visa cancelled and no right to ever re-enter Japan , even as tourists . There is never been one telemarketing problem ever since , because after this incident , telemarketing is now illegal in Japan . Besides in Japan , it is very easy to say who is not Japanese born and raised and anyone with a foreign accent calling a private house on behalf of a company will only hear the click of the person hanging up . What you don't understand is that the CRTC is a company, and their aim is to make money , and if they solve the problem, they won't be making money anymore , so they blame the police and the police blames them and this just goes on and on and nowhere .
Morgan Olfursson Bingo. I'm from Finland 🇫🇮 and this thing would never work here. People are reserved and would automatically hang up when they hear it's some seller with a foreign accent.
Hi neighbour, I'm from Iceland ( I just lived in Japan for a long time) and i understand perfectly how Finnish people think, this is the same with Icelandic people and i think most Scandinavians . We don't waste our time with random people calling home , and unless you were born and raised in Iceland , Finland, Noway , Sweden or Denmark , there is no way , you can ever sound like a native and if you don't , nobody will trust you on the phone or buy anything you try to sell. I think this is a great advantage to live in countries where foreigners have a hard time learning or speaking the language , it creates a natural barrier and only people who really try to make the effort to learn the language have a chance to settle for a long time . Plus the weather alone in Scandinavia is enough to dissuade people .
Watching this I realized it's been probably ten years since I had my air ducts cleaned. Does anybody know a company that I can call and set up an appointment.
If they "can't do anything" (read WON'T do anything) then taxpayers money is being wasted and the office/bureau needs to be shut down. No sense in spending hard earned money and get absolutely nothing for it! Such a scam! Contact whatever gov official you can and complain!! Insist they either actually do something or shut it down!

You shouldnt direct your anger towards anyone the rich didnt do anything wrong. Use your emotions to fuel different activities such as an art of some kind.
Society Itself is the enslavement of humanity. I agree that the world as it is , is in a less the fortunate situation. But, this doesn't mean we can blame people who are hard working / good at making money. I don't extend this to people who are born with money or gain money by the exploitation of others. The way capitalism is supposed to function is an entrepreneur can only make the money they want my catering to the needs of others. All humans have greed so capitalism takes this in mind. The entrepreneur can make money most efficiently by making the highest quality and cheapest goods.
Reward others for their contributions, sure, but to the detriment of all others on the planet?! There will come a day when humans will be ashamed that they denied others food, shelter, heat simply for bragging rights! Capitalism is simply a real life monopoly game where Billionaires are out to win it all. Surely you see that this obsession of the rich is escalating. They've forgotten that humans must eat and demand that we work for them for the privilege to do it. Will you be okay with the first human Trillionaire who claims himself King of the World?
I got rid of telemarketeers very quickly by politely answering the phone, enquiring after their services and once they start talking putting the phone down next to me without hanging up. Great fun, you should try it. After 2 or 3 times they stop calling.
Back in the day, when receiving a telemarketing call (always during dinner), my father would put the handset on the counter. He would then hang up an hour or so later. 😂😂😂
Yup I did that once, too. Hard to believe there was a time when, if both parties didn't hang up, the Bell Telephone Co. would keep the connection going.

@@QueensCage They cannot download anything to your phone without your permission. If they send a text message, simply delete the message without opening. A voice message cannot carry a malicious payload.
It's very easy to get them to stop calling. Keep them on the line for as long as possible. Make up excuses, give them false details, addresses, cc info etc. You can find generators for all these things. If they hang up on you keep calling back and keep asking to be transferred to the person you were speaking to originally. Eventually they will rage at you and usually will block your number.
You do realise that it is not one guy who calls you? If you get bombarded by say 20 telemarketer calls, would you spend 15 minutes on each call frustrating them and spend 15*20= 300 minutes or 6 Hours/day doing this, or simply say "this number is on DNC" & hang up taking 5 seconds, 5*20=100 seconds >2 Minutes/day?

them on the phone for 30 minutes. Tell your friends, turn it into a competition, if enough people do this, their
industry will collapse.

The best way to deal with them is to make your phone a paid line. You rake in cash while the telemarketers think that they're coming closer to making a sale. It's worked for several people in the states and one guy even gets an extra USD$500 or more every month because of it.

And always call them the son of a hundred fathers. They love that.
two ways to stop this
1. do not engage with them, put down the phone once you know who they are
2. keep them on the phone as long as possible, waste as much of their time as possible.

Now there's an accurate statement.
CRTC is trying to find a solution...It has been 4 years and nothing has happened.
The workers there just collect a government pension and a government paycheque THATS IT!

ingoleg oleg I highly doubt they are getting kickbacks. I betting this agency doesn't have the proper funding nor the man power to really do anything. They also have other crap to deal with and more Canadians should start paying their fair share so the government agencies can be properly funded.

Fabulous... I loved this investigative report... This is journalism at it's best.
Hi neighbour,
I'm from Iceland ( I just lived in Japan for a long time) and i understand perfectly how Finnish people think, this is the same with Icelandic people and i think most Scandinavians .
The Japanese are extremely civilized and efficient in many ways.

Contact whatever gov official you can and complain!! Insist they either actually do something or shut it down!
CBC Marketplace is one of the best investigative shows ever. Thanks!
It's amazing how they take 20' to say what they could've said in 3.
So it takes them 20' feet.
The CBC need viewers, too, and they use the same devices to hold the viewer's attention as do the commercial channels.
India: the scam capitol of the world
Pakistan: runner-up
fyrestorme123 no that's Nigeria
I'd say Nigeria was a big player in the scam industry back in 2006 to 2010. India has taken the crown since.
fyrestorme123. Dont forget Nigeria and Ghana
Blame the big companies who have these people work for them
so much of being holy!! but they themselves are thieves!!!
Hello sir, I am calling from Air Duck cleaning services.
Air duck
Air duck.
Air duck.
Air duck.
I still get calls..."I'm calling about cleaning your air ducts" GRRR. I got rid of my land line as a result. The number of phone calls was driving me bonkers. Answering machine full of calls from these guys. It never ends.
Do Canadians have something against just hanging up
ColicoVis they physically can't they are too polite
no they get so angry they can spit
ah, canadians, just lovely.
Its called harassment dude let me call your house 4 times a day for the next year and let me see how you would feel. Its not just Canadians its everywhere.
I mean I already do, Canadians aren't the only ones dealing with telemarketers (for me it's "resort stays" and "time share opportunities" but I just hang up. 15 seconds tops, and I go back to do whatever I was doing.
hearing all those ringing phones near the beginning literally gave me a headache
I lived that night mare from 2014-2015
Anyone else notice the "To Catch a Telemarketer" in the background lol 1:10
Your point? I don't get it.
Why don't you just take a seat over there?
Owl Enigma To catch a predator reference, can be said as the telemarketer is the predator.
Owl Enigma my god , your probably a joy to be around 😯
im dead
I live in the western US and I just started getting these calls. I play games with them to waste they’re time and make them angry.
I became Very Raciest While receiving these phone calls.
You should direct that anger towards the rich, not at some poor wage slave forced to do this just to eat!
The dark side grows strong with this one :)
The Panasonic Block Call box works like a charm. You can block up to 2,000 callers. I am loving quiet days again.
They call me from new numbers daily.
FOR IDENTITY THEFT ..THEY WILL TAUNT YOU..
ITS A CALL CENTER THATS HIRED FOR THE CROOKS
THEY getting smart using phone numbers and also, they getting to a point they will hack or tap your phone with a voice message added then hack your data to that phone and start bothering other people you have not been in contact with...
@@QueensCage They cannot download anything to your phone without your permission. If they send a text message, simply delete the message without opening. A voice message cannot carry a malicious payload.
Wait, lets say i really want this "Air Duct cleaning service"... where would it come from?
You uninstall and take your ducts out of country and they get shipped back in the mail but actuallu contain illegal immigrants inside.
wondering that my self - are local companies hiring this outsource call center? Where do they make their money?
Hahahahahhahaaha....Nice comment from you for a boring working day :-)
+NeedyZ poor Lenny XD
what I was thinking. where is the company hiring these telemarketers.
Time to upgrade to air horns?
Liam Watson so?
Liam Watson but, but, but, their telemarketing?!?! Isnt it illegal? Or nah?
Liam Watson I would hope it would
Megaphone?
CRTC CEO needs to be fired, she is more concerned about that stringy bang than the customers.
@@hussainalmubarak5347 bruhhhhh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can’t stop them
There are like 1.6 billion of them
Carlos Sanchez Actually more like around 620 million
So? There's 100 million of us plus growing (truecaller app). Get the truecaller app people and stop bitching.
There is only about 7 billion people in the world. So that's a lot. These scammers need to be stopped.
@caramelcop cat congrats for stating the obvious, when the joke was about it being 1.6 million indian phone calling scammers and not the total population of earth
zXTheFoxXz I know, I'm just say that's a lot.
Them: We'll clean all your ducts for $99.
You: That's a great deal, but I don't have any ducks.
Them: What?
You: I said I don't have any ducks. How much for a couple of geese and a half dozen guinea hens?
Them: What? I said ducts--air ducts.
You: I know that ducks are in the air; that's why they fly south for the winter.
Them: What? Those are not air ducts, they're ducks that are in the air.
You: I know that ducks are in the air.
Them: Air ducts. Air ducts. D-U-C-T-S. Ducts. Ducts.
You: That's what I said--ducks.
Them: Do you not speak English? Do you not know what an air duct is?
You: I told you I don't care about ducks. I don't have any. How much for geese, swans, and guinea hens? I have quite a few of those.
Them: Do you have any aspirin? Click.
lol
Well played sir, well played. (Golf clap.)
I love this XD Ducts equates to ducks XD
LMFAO!!! XD
This is quality.
I am from the U.K, the main calls we get are to do with either PPI, or injuries at work or on the road type people so I keep them on the phone as long as I can asking them about if they have had any injuries. Bu they always ask you to identify the injury and when it happened even tho they are the ones that phoned you. If you mess around with them enough they give up.
This is one of many reasons I don't answer phone numbers I don't know.
