    I have an X3 and the trick is to make sure the opening of the hog ring is at 12 o'clock. I saw this on another video and it works like a charm!

      We probably watched the same video. I had the same issue with C300 today and did the same with the 12 o' clock trick.

      Every video says to make sure the opening is down... so does it matter where it's at if you say you put it at the top/12 o'clock?

      12 or 6 might actually be the same.

    I think the circlip is usually the culprit when it comes to installation issues. Try to keep the axle as straight as possible. Use some grease to hold the circlip centered on the axle. If you still can not get the axle in you may want to consider removing the circlip and see if the axle goes in properly without it. If it then goes in properly, at least you have verified that the circlip is related to the issue and not something else. If you have to beat the axle in, there is an issue. If it doesn't fit there is a reason. Figure out the reason instead of resorting to brute force.

      I wanted to pass that along because I really did not know that

    Great video! Just did the drivers side CV on a 2018 Elantra. The new CV is making the same thumping noise as the original one, just not nearly as bad. Noise is heard when driving straight and gets worse when turning hard right. What's the chances I got a bad replacement one (non OEM)? Have you had many bad ones from the manufacturer?
    Is it possible I didn't install the CV axle in all the way in?(everything did line up and go back together as before. ie the control arm and tie rod end ball joint bolts/nuts)

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  Год назад +1

      I would lean more towards the axle not being installed correctly. The likelihood of you having a bad axle is very low.

      @@sharpcarco I checked my installation and it seems fine. I got a warranty replacement axle (same brand) and still has the same issue. I confirmed my installation, I felt the O ring click into place, I have the same amount of gap between the axle housing and transmission and same amount of minor in/out play as I do on the passenger side factory one. Is it a manufacturing issue and I should just go with the OEM one from the dealership? I jacked up the driver side tire and let it free spin in gear, the thumping can be heard/felt so I know I'm dealing with the correct axle and correct side of the car.

The axle wiggles back and forth a bit. To do the trick you showed, can i use a regular hammer, or do i need that fancy powertool you showed?

    Had a light bearing sound passenger side. Shortly later it became a lour clunking, shortly later i bust down, 3 out of 6 lug nuts torn off. Replace lower arm/ball/rod end, new bearing, new hub, still clunking again! The sound is coming from near the rotor. Double checked brakes. Ok. This cv axle was replaced 1 year ago under a recall> I ordered a new cv axle made in China. (what do i have to lose)? Is my manual trans axle shot? I kinda dont think so but now im getting really scared. This is my only car. Its a little Honda FIT. PLEASE HELP ME.

    Effin LOVE this guy!!! I'll come donate if I can get the job done. Rn I'm having issues getting the holder braket for the cv axels bolt to loosen. There is a bolt that holds it into place on the bracket. (The passenger side one)I can't seem to break it free even with a air tool. So a breaker bar is a MUST and I just can't get up in there. Its a 2008 toyota rav. Its been days I mean like 5 days I've been trying so much different shit and I just CANT get it to break free 😢 any tips?( the hubs were 4 days by themselves)It's a space thats only as big as a mouth AND to get a breaker bar that MIGHT break it free in there, I just can't maneuver it in there to even try 😔

    Clay I have a question? I have a car that I can't even get parts for anymore. I do all my own mechanicin' on this old Bastard. it is the oddball 1987 Buick Century custom 2.5 l iron Duke POS. my car all of a sudden would not shift out of first I mean it wasn't even like gradually giving me a heads up which is really confusing to me. because most of the time as we know these things give a heads up before they just take a shit. can't hook OBD up to it because it's freaking got to be the car that Jesus drove to school "old". I changed the shift solenoid under the side pan of the transmission in this stupid thing. took me about a week and a half because of the stupid cover that goes over the side pan. pain in the ass to remove along with everything else that we had to remove just to get to the stupid thing. reassembled. do you even drive it a few kilometers and something started rattling and clanging. sounded like something rubbing on something else. turn it right back around went home and looked under it and the inside of the CV boot was pulled away from the CV axle on the same side which would be the driver side. I know that I did not get the Jack or anything else because I had them on blocks around any part of this area of the car. hence the car still did not shift out of first. could the CV axle have worked its way out of the housing and caused the car not to shift

    Hey bro i installed my new cv axle but the front end on both sides was jacked up for a week or two. I can only work on my car on weekends. I ended up having to get vice grip slide hammer which is why i had to wait an extra weekend. Now the steering knuckle isn’t lining up. I even moved the cv axle out of the way to see if that was the issue, but, the steering knuckle still refuses to line up.
    I tried turning my wheels all the way both sides and having them at the center. I tried lowering the other side that was jacked up, down to where the side I was working on was the only one jacked up.
    But no luck. Do you know whats going on? Any help would he appreciated. I won’t have the $3k it’ll cost to get this fixed for another 3 months and I wish I had been patient and spent 1.5k on getting the axles swapped out instead of trying to get a couple months ahead and trying to fix it myself. I have even considered totaling out the car.
    Its a 2014 nissan sentra with 65k miles that ive taken very good care of since I bought it at 48k miles.
    So id be sad to total it here but i am getting closer and closer to that.

    • @bobthebuilder9416
      @bobthebuilder9416 6 месяцев назад +1

      The other side, the passenger side, i was able to swap out in a day. The drivers side took me a whole day and i decided next weekend to go get an axle puller. well that didnt work i bought the adapter. That didnt work, so then i had to order the vice grip slide hammer off amazon. Thats why its taken me 3 weekends so its been on jack stands for 2 weeks on the front side
      Thats why it took 2 weeks one side took a day the other side took 2 day plus a 5 day wait from amazon

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  6 месяцев назад

      Sorry to hear that I’m assuming the knuckle won’t line up because you’re not pushing on the right spot.
      Actually, now that I think about it, I bet you’re axle is not correct on the inside of the rubber accordions grab the shaft of the axle pull the end of the axle twisted a little little bit so it locks them correctly I hope that answers your question. I did think of that as I was writing you did not but now I know exactly what you mean
      The end of the axles should move in and out like an accordion, and it should move 6 to 7 inches whatever the depth of the cups are

    Question My girl got in an accident in my car. I noticed the strut was bent and The alignments off.. I put the car in the air and one wheel spins the other 1 doesn't so I changed the axle on the 1 that didn't spend now the 1 that did spin doesn't spin. I change the axle on that side now the other side barely spends what could be the problem? I replaced both axles.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  9 месяцев назад

      Well, that’s probably because the transmission will only allow one wheel to spin. Would be my guess.

    • @andrewlewis9116
      @andrewlewis9116 9 месяцев назад

      They both spin i think it was brake pads pressing on the rotors. I bled the brakes and both wheels turn now.

    TRY THIS IF YOUR IN A PINCH! Step 1 Rip the axle out. Step 2 cut the boot off the axle you just removed. Step 3 insert the axle right back into the thing your trying to remove. Step 4 put locking pliers on the thing your trying to remove and lock down the pliers as tight as you can. Step 5 slam the axle back and forth against the locking pliers until it pulls out.

      Well, you know…. 😂😂😂 I’ve had a couple of dozen guys tell me how they’ve never had to do this after changing 100 axles I might just be dumb….. but then I thought it was pretty smart…. But then I realize I’m dumb again after they tell me that I’m going to destroy the transmission….. but then I think to myself, if a transmission can’t with stand this type of jiggling how does it spin…. So I’m not so sure. Now I’ve confused myself…. Anyways, if I ever have to do this truck again, I’m gonna do it because I’ll know by that time if I did any damage but I doubt I did because it’s mostly just vibration transferring down the axle shaft through the actual itself so I would have to think it would ruin the actual before it would actually ruin the transmission but hell what do I know? I’ve only been working on cars for a little bit over 30 years my experiences very very small in comparison to a 25 year old kid. (the one that commented this.) on my other video.
