    Clearly one of the most under rated rock, metal, stoner: There isn't enough great things to describe this band. Probably one of the loudest bands I've seen live. My ears are still ringing after two years. I hope you guys come back to The Bourbon in Lincoln, Neb soon!

    Reading all these comment with people saying. "Why do you guys give them so much shit for their new stuff?" Are probably the same people who only discovered them when warp riders came out. You don't understand how refreshing and fucking bad ass it was to hear these guys when Age of Winters Came out. It was a masterpiece. It was heavy, it had an old school rock/metal vibe. It felt this heavy and dark tone that made you imagine demons, rogues, wizards , giant fucken monsters and warriors and all that cool shit. And then God's of the Earth came out and it took things to a whole new level. And this was almost 10 years ago.
    Now you New fans come in having only really listened to one heavy album and now claim all their shift after warp riders is still good. Nah. You didn't experience and live the slow degrading of their heavy sound and intense and bad ass direction and musical themes.
    It was still creative but it was also heavy and other worldly. Now when they perform their old songs.. it sounds like a shitty cover band or they are so focused on changing their sound.. they don't give the old sons that same sound and passion.
    So fuck off with this "Omg they are so much better "FUCK no. Just because a band changes their shit doesn't mean it's always good.

    I was there and the encore was so awesome. When the T Rex song hit, everyone went crazy. It's a good riff. Bryan the bassist had a huge grin on his face and the band was having so much fun. Powerful.

      Dr. Marshall, I never thought I'd run into you in a combox about heavy metal. I'd love a podcast addressing arguments pro- and con- rock and roll music, which gets a serious bad rap in sectors of the traditional Catholic community. By the way, your recent 18 min. presentation on B16's resignation was quite good.

      Come to think of it, it could be a collaborative episode with Dr. Tom Woods. Dr. Esolen could provide the counterargument.

    What an amazing set. This band has just evolved so well over the years. Low Country version of Ghost Eye was a highlight! The rest of the band has really stepped it up with the backup vocals and it makes a HUGE difference in the quality of their live performances!

    Metal fans are so ridiculously unforgiving. The band has been changing direction since Warp Riders, why are you surprised with the new material especially this set list considering it’s an album support tour? If you like it, fantastic, if you don’t like it then stop complaining on the internet and listen to something else. These guys still shred and I can’t wait to see them in April

    • @j.t.8848
      @j.t.8848 6 лет назад +1

      Whining is mainly what the internet is used for unfortunately. It would make way too much sense to keep one's mouth shut and simply listen to something else. Just for the record, I still love these guys as well. The general consensus that this band "isn't good anymore" is highly exaggerated.

      @SaveTheWorldRadio completely subjective opinion. You aren't the arbiter of whats good and bad. For some its a really good album, for some its not, i can understand why some fans may not like it, but i think its good. Its just definitely different.

      My biggest issue with the new stuff (other than the synthesizers) is that they tune up now.

      No they just took out the chugachugas and replaced them with well crafted music. The Sword is still The Sword. Their musicianship hasnt changed at all. They still have a similar composition style as they did 15 years ago. Their sound is now just even grander in scale. They can be anything. Those are the best kinds of bands - something new every time.

    I've been a fan since the first album and loved all everything since. I have the shirts, I buy the vinyl, I go to the shows. The Used Future songs are cool from what I've heard.
    But guys... to not play anything of Age of Winters is shocking and disappointing. Please throw in a few of those songs for the tour. I understand not wanting to focus on the past when a new album is out, but don't forget your old fans.

    Why I gotta fast forward to like 6 minutes to hear music

  • @Slaughterhauzen
    @Slaughterhauzen 6 лет назад +5

    I don’t have a problem with bands evolving over time. We all change over 5, 10, 30 years. But I will say, I’m not sure why so many of my favorite bands (The Sword, Mastodon, The Black Keys, Queens of the Stone Age, etc) get “softer” in their sound with age. Why do bands always equate “changing things up to stay creatively invested” with “exploring our chill side”...
    The one band that does it right though is Mastodon. Their music is always changing, but when they play songs from Leviathan or Remission, they play them the way they were written to be played. I mean, look, experimenting is great, but just because you’re making different music now doesn’t mean songs that were written and recorded with a heavier sound and aggression should be played in your new style. When I see The Sword live, it’s a disservice to the songs and the fans to play something off Gods of the Earth in a chill-bro vibe. That’s all I’m saying

    • @PADW4VOTK
      @PADW4VOTK 6 лет назад +1

      Mastodon has been shit since laviathan.

    • @muttonmark
      @muttonmark 6 лет назад +2

      Not trying to be a ahole or anything, but maybe it's just that they're growing up. You can't really make another Laviathan, or Rated R or Age of Winters. Those are monumental albums. I have always been a Trash Metal fan. But now that I am in my 40's, my tastes have matured. I still love Mastodon, QOTSA (Well, not the last album so much), Clutch etc. When I hear old Testament/Slayer/Death Angel I get pumped, but it's hard for those bands to replicate their best stuff. I just enjoy everything a little bit different now.

      Manly and Loving It honestly i thought Once more round the sun was pretty heavy. Not in the same way as leviathan or remission or even cts, but very heavy still. I agree theyve had a stellar career.

  • @benweissman2472
    @benweissman2472 6 лет назад

    I like the live-sword sound better than their recordings. Their recordings, especially on their newer stuff, is too processed, and especially on the newest album, synthesized. Live, they play their newer, more “hippieish” songs with a distorted, raw sound and it sounds good.

    Thanks for streaming the show! Great camera angles and good audio. I hope you guys do this again in the future!
    New songs sounded cool. Didn't surprise me with a majority of the set being new album + High Country. With this being streamed that probably had a huge hand in what songs got played. You'll have people discovering you for the first time so you go with more recent stuff. With this show out of the way they'll probably mix in more older stuff for the tour, would love to see different tracks from AoW and GotE played. Stuff like Frost Giant's Daughter, Lords, the Black River, and Ebethron. I feel like the setlist for this show really slowed down in the middle. It kind of felt like up-tempo then chill then up-tempo then chill. Encore came out swinging and that was awesome!

    When I saw you guys on the High Country tour, the different tuning and altered vocals bugged me. I'm warming to the change, though.

    Their older songs sound so weird in standard tuning. Or perhaps a half step down? Hard to tell for sure. It's definitely not down to C standard though. haha

      Yeap. They now play everything in Eb or maybe D. I don't like it AT ALL. The old songs have lost all of their balls and energy the way they play them live now.

    I wish he would stop trying to improvise the melodies live... they're not Zeppelin. Vocal improvisation is not one of his talents.

    • @corbinedgmon6163
      @corbinedgmon6163 5 лет назад

      Here is the problem with that. It would sound just fine if they would play all of their songs from apocryphon and before in the tuning they were recorded in which is C standard. But they play everything in this tuning from used future which is E standard tuned a half step down. JD can't go from as high as he sings normally to even higher so he has to feel it out live. You can really notice this in Lawless Lands

      +Andy Johnson It's extremely depressing, eh? In my opinion, they really peaked and hit their stride during the Age Of Winters - Warp Riders era, Apocryphon was a pretty solid record, but then it's been a quick and vertical drop straight down since then.

      Can't keep making the same exact music on and on forever. There are only so many heavier than yer mammy's period riffs you can write before you want to try something else. I love the old stuff, but I still dig this as well.

    this new rhythm they give to old songs, a kind of dancing rhythm, like in Madein, Mother and Crone, is completely horrible. do not get me wrong, I love some new songs, Dreamthieves is one of the best songs of the band for me, but for god sake, all the old songs are now played in this stupid rhythm. if the band had recorded the songs years ago at that rhythm, I guarantee they would not have half the fans today. i just ask for that, do not change the old songs, do whatever you want when you create the new ones, but don't fucking change the old songs!!!

    The Sword are so boring these days. I get changing your sound and all, they are obviously channeling ZZ Top and other bands of this era. Maybe they are leading more chill lives, but I remember when The Sword sounded majestic. I'll still go to the shows, but this is kinda sad.
