Useful information. However, 6:47 Mic Level Limiter "will prevent audio clipping". I think this depends on the type of audio. I was recording some live music with the X-S20 and external mics. I had 'Mic Level Limiter' set to 'ON'. When I listened to the recording afterwards, the audio sounded strangled and unpleasant. When I examined the audio in a wave editor I could see the peaks had been limited to -6dB, and in many places the peaks were clipped, flattened. What that seems to mean is that instead of clipping at 0dB, it will clip sooner, at -6dB. Thereby the available headroom is reduced, making clipping even more likely. At any rate, it is worth testing with the mic limiter set to 'OFF' and evaluate for oneself. Which is best might depend on the specific situation and what sound is being recorded.
I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out why I couldn't see my mic levels - and then I found your comment about the large indicators... thank you so much, problem solved.

Hi, On the XS10 i used to see a small Icon that shows that an external Mic is connected. On the XT4 i can't see the symbol on the LCD, even the external Mic is connected and working. Does XT4 just don't have this feature or do i have to switch something in the Settings=
Hey, the audio on my video are OK when playedback on the camera but is just static when I playback the video on my pc, phone, etc. Please help. Thanks ya 🙏
Hi Florian, thanks for this awesome tutorial. I followed your tutorial step by step and in the end, still I had the same problem. In my Fujifilm X-H2s Mic level doesn't move at all. I use Rode VideoMic Pro. Do you have any idea why doesn't work?
Hello, I bought an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm stereo jack and cannot get it to work now matter what settings I change on my X-T4. Can you tell me what I may doing wrong? Thank You!
Hi, to be honest I have no idea. It might be because it’s not compatible with fujifilms systems. Or because it’s not the original adapter Fuji provides. 🤷
@Jacques Pilon Art Actually, I was referring to the headphone jack; I solved by using a Motorola adapter instead of the Apple 🍏 one. Thanks for replying 😀
Hello Florian, great video! I just got my XS-20 and have a question about the internal mic. When I record f.e. a song or my voice, I hear a lot of internal noise when I play the recorded video, which is not there in reality. I tried the settings from the video and also uploaded the newest firmware which made it a little bit better but basically the sound quality is bad. Is it common that I have to use an external mic or is there something wrong with the camera? It is brand new. Best regards from Berlin!
Hey Mary It’s commen that the quality of the internal mic isn’t good at all. So for best audio quality is always recommended using a external mic. I will attach a link for you, external mics don’t need to be expensive to improve your audio quality. It’s all down to what you need the sound for. amzn.to/3H4Mcz7 Here is a mic I started with back in the days easy to use runs of the power of the camera so when you switch your camera on you mic is on no hustle when it comes down to batteries or forgotten to switch on the mic when recording. Budget friendly and easy to use, sound quality isn’t bad either. If you want something a bit more quality like I recommend deity amzn.to/3H1a4DY This is what I use for all my videos now. Good quality mic And still on the affordable side of things too
Not that I’m aware of it. Check the mic is proper plugged in or see if you can maybe use a different mic / cable to check if the same problem appears. If not you could reset the camera to manufacture standard and re try
Have a look to replace the battery from the microphone if it got one. Make sure the mic is proper plugged into the camera or even switch on if needed. If you can try out a different mic. Check your db level and make sure they set to the right level and not muted for what ever reason. If this all doesn’t work then resetting the camera to manufacture settings and if then still doesn’t work you mic Jack might be faulty
Hey Florian, I'm Hans here from Cameroon (I believe it's Kamerun in German). I own an XT-200 and would love for you to please do a video on installing an external mic for the XT200
Thanks for the video... do you know if the X-H1 3.5mm mic in has PIP (Plug in power) for small microphones? and would it be around 3-5 V? The manual seems to say it doesn't... thanks!
Heya I don’t know. However I use a small boya shotgun mic which gets the power of the camera (xt3/xt4) so I don’t see why this shouldn’t work with the xh1 as well
I've recorded my wifes birthday today on my fujifilm xs10 on full HD 30fps and on the camera it was sound. But, sending it over to my phone the sound is ruined. Can't hear anything. Any idea why ?
@@FlorianFrickel yes.. i did some right now again where i spoke very loud and i could hear in the playback after. But, when i sent the videos through the fujifilm app and tried watching it the audio was ruined. Almost like the old days when u switch the channel on your old tv and it had no signal. Just alot of noice
If you use the internal mics the audio quality will be never really good compare to a external mic. Elsewise make sure your audio leaves aren’t clipping when filming, and you don’t hit the red level. Elsewise it’s hard to say what’s wrong right now really. Maybe re-set the camera to manufacture settings and see if that helps or try a different sd card. Probably best solution for better audio is getting a external mic
@@FlorianFrickel thank you for feedback. I will look into it. I noticed that 50% of my videos the sound was working. Weird. But it wasn't that important. Made a little birthday video for my girl so the sound wasn't so important.. I need to get me a mic . 😅🙌🤙
If the audio was recorded go to audio settings and turn up the volume of the speakers/ headphone volume- Might be your speakers/ headphone volume are mute. That should fix the problem
Their might be a few reason why it doesn’t work. 1. Is the mic powered on if it got a power on button 2. Are the mic Batteries fully charged 3.Make sure your mic is proper plugged in 4. All cables are proper plugged in, in camera and in Mic 5. Jump into the audio menu and see if you need to adjust the Db or if the mic is picking up any noise at all 6.Maybe faulty cable or mic or mic Jack 7. If you got a spare mic cable try a different one and see if the mic gets recognised That’s what I would check never had an issue when I plugged in a mic, perhaps you got a other mic to try out if this works if it does then perhaps your new mic might be faulty
Let me know how you use your internal mics if you do at all 🎤
