- This tutorial showcases how to play Windows games on Mac for free using the Whisky app. With the latest MacOS update and the power of Apple's gamer porting toolkit, It takes just a few steps to install Windows Steam games on MacBook and start gaming on Mac. Unfortunately, not all Windows games that are on Steam are available to play on Mac so you can play Windows games that are not available on MacOS through an app called Whisky. This method of playing Windows games on Mac will work with any kind of device with MacOS that has an M series chip, whether it's the MacBook Pro M2, MacBook Air M3, or Mac Mini.

Not playing Windows games on Mac, but Steam play unsupported games like Minecraft on Mac, But Paralells and Crossover, or any other windows game playing on Mac fast like that. This is a tutorial / Windows on Mac with Whiskey of run on Mac and FPS to launch games on Mac in 2024.
I also just found out that you can get a +50 FPS boost to almost all Mac games by scrolling back up to SMASH the like button

It’s worth mentioning that this only works for apple silicon Macs. If you’re looking to do something similar on Intel Macs, I would recommend setting up boot camp.

@@NandarAung-wl8ln well because macos cant natively run them. if you wanted to run it under macos without duel booting. idk why it wouldnt work it seems like its pretty much wine for macos

So for those who don't know, Whisky is a GUI version for apple's Game Porting Toolkit + Crossover's Wine flavour. More experienced mac users can use the terminal method (Apple's official solution), but it has no advantages and Whisky is better overall. Its basically Proton with DX12.
Another comment said: "It will be worse than crossovers in some areas. This is due to it using a older version of wine."
@@CO-kd6sd Yea, I am not sure myself but It is probs running a older version of wine that Does support arm and also does not use anything that the mac does not have. I know that it could be updated but if it works it works ig.

WARNING TO EVERYONE TRYING TO USE THIS: This option is solid for playing some games and even profesional software that is not on mac although if trying to play a game that contains anticheat it will not run it. Reason being is the anti cheat checks the processes being run on the computer. Whiskey only uses wine which does not spoof processes it only spoofs the file location. I have struggled with things like this on linux and my sisters mac before so i just thought everyone should get a fair chance to know.

@@kellyhoang4680 sadly not a lot of games with anticheat will play. One exception is apex legends. I’m not sure about xdefiant because I haven’t tried it yet
Hey Bog, just wanted to correct you here: Whisky and Apple's GPTK are just flavours of Crossover's Wine with extra DX12 support, so they run identically to Crossover except in DX12 games, where they run even faster. As for Parralels, it doesn't run windows GAMES, it runs windows itself, so it is MUCH slower.
"Crossover's WINE"
In case anyone is wondering why it's called Whiskey, it's a play off of the translation layer WINE.
WINE is a piece of software that, rather than emulating a machine, it translates all (or as many as it can) Windows API calls into (typically) POSIX calls. This means that the application is actually RUNNING on your hardware, rather than on a virtual machine.

Kinda a cop-out. It originally, originally stood for WINdows Emulator. When the software became popular, the acronym was changed to Wine Is Not an Emulator."

does paralells actually have gpu acceralation? cuz i thought that wasnt possible unless you did passthrough but maybe it automatically does that cuz all macs have integrated graphics if they have a dedicated gpu

this is a good method its just whenever i try downloading stuff the game reaches 99% and it says i need to wait a year and it keeps going on and on to like 12 years and so i just reinstall steam a couple of times and it works but its still good

What about free personal license of vmware fusion player? It also can run games, it supports 3d acceleration. I tried a couple of games and they run just fine.

It's basically Wine port.
Wine (and Proton) optimized for linux, not for MacOS. And there's a lot of GUI versions of Wine. You don't need to type commands in the terminal.

I do like to think that the Mac team is competent enough to improve those recent tools they gave gamedevs for porting as well as make win apps just run much better on Mac. I’m assuming that’s gotta come with ARM.

i delete it because it kept opening up steam and then when i downloaded it the next day it said i didnt have wine 64. I thought i might have forgot to delete the whole thing so i deleted everything and downloaded everything again and now it wont make a bottle. i can make it and then it disappears the instant i click create.

Duuude this is awesome, I knew about Wine and all, also using UTM on my M1, but this should finally let me play some of those games I wasn't able to, as well as run some software! Whisky even has built in recipe for installing classic Winamp :D
Now we want the list of games that we could play and test as well. Try some FPS games.

Elden ring, god of war, or the recent black myth wukong run on Mac with this method. Because I'd have to buy that and if it wouldn't work then it'd be a serious let down so...
I wish this worked on Intel, or older OSes like Big Sur, and mine, Catalina. No Geometry Dash for me now (until the bug is patched).

If you did your research as much as you try to sound funny with Shrek jokes, you’d know barely any actual windows version of Steam games are actually playable or even work. And out of all proof you could give, you use a 12-year-old fully 2D game that was originally made in Flash. Yeah…..
Too much work. I'd better buy a second hand Windows laptop to play casual games than spending this much for some buggy software to do the same thing.

From my experience Crossover is utter garbage, Very buggy often crashes and poor controller support.

Actually, whisky can run some games that crossover can’t do as well (like rocket league, for example)
Can it run forza horizon 5 ? I had assumed that on crossover version 23 something it was working, but since I joined the party late, I'm on latest crossover 24 version and I can't launch forza. The game also appears on crossover's page so I'm confused if it's supposed to run and I'm the one with the problem or it's not running at all
@@apotra20xx I have no idea, I don’t have Forza :/ If you already have the game, I’d give it a go. Otherwise maybe look through Macgaming’s compatibility list or search for some game tests specifically.

I've been looking for something like this for over a year, but every method just didn't worked. So i gave up and I accepted the fact that i couldn't play a couple of games I like on my mac.
