So for those who don't know, Whisky is a GUI version for apple's Game Porting Toolkit + Crossover's Wine flavour. More experienced mac users can use the terminal method (Apple's official solution), but it has no advantages and Whisky is better overall. Its basically Proton with DX12.

does paralells actually have gpu acceralation? cuz i thought that wasnt possible unless you did passthrough but maybe it automatically does that cuz all macs have integrated graphics if they have a dedicated gpu

I have struggled with things like this on linux and my sisters mac before so i just thought everyone should get a fair chance to know.

The not-open-source parts are Apple's Rosetta emulation which runs x86 assembly on Apple Silicon, and D3DMetal, Apple's DirectX to Metal adaptor library.

I have been without Satisfactory since I bought my MacBook Pro M2 over a year ago. Satisfactory was the only thing I missed about the switch. Now, using your EASY process I was able to load Steam for Windows up through the "Whisky" bottle and install Satisfactory. While it doesn't allow me to start a new game, all of my old games were there via Steam Cloud Save. I chose an early version of one of my saves, and it was JUST like starting over anyway. The performance (even cranked up) is very smooth! No dealing with the Apple Developer Store, no need to download GPTK, or fiddle with configuration files! During the Whisky install, it installs all dependencies. THANK YOU!

Duuude this is awesome, I knew about Wine and all, also using UTM on my M1, but this should finally let me play some of those games I wasn't able to, as well as run some software! Whisky even has built in recipe for installing classic Winamp :D
nice I just uninstalled my UTM cause one of the games I still miss from windows wouldn't play on the Virtual machines and now on this New version of Whiskey it works... when initially it didn't like over a year ago when I first got my MAC... probably in the future as it evolves more will work..

@@nathanripplinger4206 its an assembly language instruction set that follows RISC principles (like RISC-V does) as opposed to CISC (like Intel's x86, which is what windows uses). Basically its the language that the program compiler compiles the OS software (which is C for pretty much every OS) into. And assembly languages have direct translations to binary, which is what the computer hardware actually speaks. As you might know, the older macbooks used Intel chips, and thus ran x86, whereas the newer M chips run ARM.
Just in case, Parallels usually works much better with older games that use directx 9 and/or were released before like 2013, that's because they use x87 (not x86, x87) instructions which are very slow to emulate under Rosetta 2 (it's a translation layer that allows x86 Crossover/Whisky bottles to run). As a free alternative, you might want to try vmware virtual machine, it's free and might perform adequately in older games.

Can it run forza horizon 5 ? I had assumed that on crossover version 23 something it was working, but since I joined the party late, I'm on latest crossover 24 version and I can't launch forza. The game also appears on crossover's page so I'm confused if it's supposed to run and I'm the one with the problem or it's not running at all

this is a good method its just whenever i try downloading stuff the game reaches 99% and it says i need to wait a year and it keeps going on and on to like 12 years and so i just reinstall steam a couple of times and it works but its still good

this isn't just regular wine, this is wine combined with rosetta 2 and a lot of other tools created by smart people to run windows x86 software on arm macs!

Holy Crap! This Whisky App actually seems to work! I don't know how or why, but it does! Also, this feels too good to be true and I am worried Apple will "fix" this in future editions of MacOSX. Apple doesn't "fix" this, because this isn't some sort of exploit. This app is kind of like an emulator, but instead of running the entirety of Windows on your Mac, which could cause major slowdowns, translates the game to something a Mac can run. At least I think that's how it works. Also it's officially called a translation layer.
Apple is actually working to fix this, but not in the way you think. Go watch one of the Apple keynotes (e.g. where they announced iOS 18 back in June). They actually talk about this (it's called GPTK on their end, stands for Game Porting Tool Kit) and how they've worked to improve it over the year before. However, GPTK is really intended for developers to use to get their games up and running on Apple Silicon with minimal work. It really isn't meant to be used by end users, though it can be. The Whisky application just makes it easier for the end user. And, not for nothing, but I don't think you're actually using OS X on an M1 Mac. The last version of OS X (El Capitan) came out 2 years before the M1 chips. It's been macOS since version 11.
doing it this way would not allow for games that have native mac versions to use that for potentially better performance and less issues. also this likely breaks anticheats. so it may be better to have the native mac version for games that have an anticheat whisky is not compatibile with but do have a native mac version. the only one i can find for sure without knowing what is actually current comaptible is fortnite although the native mac version is basically abandoned.
Currently using whiskey to play master duel, everything works fine, other than steam tends to open continuously even after I closed both the steam and whiskey app.

How is the perfromance? This is amazing and exactly what I've been looking for ever since I got my M2 Mac, Bootcamp was no longer an option and parallels simple didn't fit my needs.
Windows Steam client keeps automatically starting after I've closed it. Steam settings have already been configured not to auto-run upon start up. Anyone knows what the issue might be?

I can only install the Epic launcher, but it doesn't load up completely. How did you get Rocket League to work?

this isn't just regular wine, this is wine combined with rosetta 2 and a lot of other tools created by smart people to run windows x86 software on arm macs!

It's basically Wine port.
Wine (and Proton) optimized for linux, not for MacOS. And there's a lot of GUI versions of Wine. You don't need to type commands in the terminal.

Holy Crap! This Whisky App actually seems to work! I don't know how or why, but it does! Also, this feels too good to be true and I am worried Apple will "fix" this in future editions of MacOSX. Still, for now, it works!!!!! I'm playing PC Steam games on my M1 Mac Mini!!! So many games I was missing out on!! (and some more great ones coming out this year!) Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apple doesn't "fix" this, because this isn't some sort of exploit. This app is kind of like an emulator, but instead of running the entirety of Windows on your Mac, which could cause major slowdowns, translates the game to something a Mac can run. At least I think that's how it works. Also it's officially called a translation layer.
Apple is actually working to fix this, but not in the way you think. Go watch one of the Apple keynotes (e.g. where they announced iOS 18 back in June). They actually talk about this (it's called GPTK on their end, stands for Game Porting Tool Kit) and how they've worked to improve it over the year before.
However, GPTK is really intended for developers to use to get their games up and running on Apple Silicon with minimal work. It really isn't meant to be used by end users, though it can be. The Whisky application just makes it easier for the end user.
And, not for nothing, but I don't think you're actually using OS X on an M1 Mac. The last version of OS X (El Capitan) came out 2 years before the M1 chips. It's been macOS since version 11.
I can't open it in my Mac, probably beacuse its an intel Mac, I was so excited to finally play Windows games :(

Just use bootcamp to dualboot windows.
Bootcamp runs way better than crossover and parallels. And you can run it on your Intel mac
VM ware Fusion is free now. Runs Windows 11 fine on a Apple Silicon Mac. You need a Windows license, though - unlike Crossover, where it's not needed.
I wish this worked on Intel, or older OSes like Big Sur, and mine, Catalina. No Geometry Dash for me now (until the bug is patched).

Paying for crossover does support the funding of wine what makes alot windows games work on mac.
doing it this way would not allow for games that have native mac versions to use that for potentially better performance and less issues. also this likely breaks anticheats. so it may be better to have the native mac version for games that have an anticheat whisky is not compatibile with but do have a native mac version. the only one i can find for sure without knowing what is actually current comaptible is fortnite although the native mac version is basically abandoned.

Currently using whiskey to play master duel, everything works fine, other than steam tends to open continuously even after I closed both the steam and whiskey app.
