For 800 quid, you could have surface resin coated the inside of the tube to make it a smooth as the outer surface . All that exposed carbon will add to turbulence.
Love the in depth video and transparency its a lovely looking quality piece. If i buy two can you throw in Imran's guide to maintaining a legendary beard and some beard oil? lol
Here I was, thinking the actual airflow in the airbox is managed/restricted by the outlet in the bonnet , creating a positive pressure in the airbox under higher vehicle speed. You can see sometimes when you ingest some spray into the airbox and it spits it out onto your windshield. You right-hand drivers are lucky you get it on the passenger side :D
Can you elaborate a bit? This morning it was pouring rain and I downshifted (DCT) and the vent shot out air and water like a blowhole on a whale and I was so confused lol
@@vkolpdj I think savagegeese has some vid from M division showing the airflow through the airbox. I don't know aerodynamics that well but I can imagine that it requires less force to take in air that is already moving as opposed to still air before throttles opened.
I got 9 HP from K & N drop in filters and that cost me 65 quid. I think the filter medium has a lot to do with the result. The F80\82 set is 1900 quid ... that's a lot of money for those gains. Looks nice though.
Tune is completely independent, the intake doesn't require a tune to make additional power. The Eventuri Plenum is a 1:1 copy of the original to retain OEM levels of drivability and therefore makes no additional power.
Hey Imran. Would the stock tune of the car not cause any restrictions on achieving more air in to the system? Would an EUC tune to adjust the look up max values increase the chances of more HP?
Ok. Finally it's here. I have a MS intake on mine which sounds great but hell does this look heaps better ! Anyboby want to buy a MS intake so I can justify getting this one?

Constant improvements have been made and the inside of the latest intakes we have fitted are very smooth. Of course for a consumer product aesthetics have to be considered which is why the exterior is the ‘finished’ side.
Excellent video and technical explanation. Would you recommend a dry charger for real wet conditions? I am pretty nervous after hydro-locking a different car with a similar setup in a big rain storm. Might be worth a dyno run with a dry charger for additional protection.

It's a bogus claim, entire advertisement is BS, they removed a PROPER cold air intake and replaced it with a HOT air intake, that will reduce performance. Retarded mod.
Calvin Sanders Bitter? Do you not understand the reasons for a cold air intake versus a hot intake? When you pull air from the HOT engine bay instead of in front of the car as BMW engineers do there is a small but significant penalty in performance...advertisement is clearly bogus. Go ahead if you like the appearance and purchase this garbage, I know better, my M3 will remain stock in this respect, the factory intake is designed very well, it even keeps cool air flowing *through the air box* when off the throttle so it won't warm as much, difficult to improve on but easy to make worse. Only ignorant children fall for this sort of thing.
Bo McGillacutty did you not watch the WHOLE video? The intake still uses the original air box and they even improved air flow to that air box. Watch the whole video before you make your false statements.
Awesome video. But is it just me that thinks 80% of the gains of this kit come from the intake scoop at the bottom! Cant you sell that on its own Imran??
I can understand the cost factor of carbon fiber parts but it seems strange to me why BMW would design some parts that restrict air for no apparent reason? It is not that they luck mechanichs and air tunnels... Maybe there is a reliability loss?
There’s no loss of reliability. BMW have many more factors to consider, such as NVH. The stock design will be partially designed to keep noise levels down. It also needs to be easy to mass produce in large numbers. An aftermarket manufacturer who wants that noise and is manufacturing on a much smaller scale and at a higher cost can make changes that BMW chose not to for whatever reason. When designing a car they have a set performance point, the stock system was adequate for that goal.
No tune is needed, the ECU can adapt to the extra cold airflow that the intake provides. Paired with a Primary Cat Delete and ECU tune it really derestricts the engine, for a much better flow of gasses and more power.
Very informative video! Not sure if you remember, but I spoke to you on M casino meet few month ago regarding e9x m3 straight pipes vs gutted cats.Would be great to see a video proving that putting straight pipes is more beneficial for the airflow rather than gutting the cats.
4 liters at 6k rpm equals 200 liters of air per second. You lost me when you came up with the blower. Do it properly and measure the absolut pressure and temperature downstream the filter and let’s compare!
