Steven, I'll second that thought. I know your mom has passed...but I love watching her videos. She is such a humble, gentle soul...and her soothing voice lands on me like an evening rain. Thank you for keeping the videos up.
By the way, when I was growing up here in Seneca, SC , we always had our main meal - dinner - at noon each day when my daddy came home for his dinner hour. Then we ate either leftovers or sometimes something like cornbread and milk at our evening meal - supper. The dinner was always the heavier meal. Now lunch has taken its place and people tend to eat heavy meals in the evening. Call me crazy, but I think that is one thing that is contributing to so many of us being overweight. This all goes back to women being in the work place and not home to prepare a mid-day meal. I’m not a feminist nor do I have any other agenda. So don’t be offended - I’m just musing and writing my thoughts. I raised 6 children and am a nurse, but I was blessed to be able to be at home when my children were small, and I can tell you that being a stay at home mother is the hardest job you could ever have. But, I wouldn’t take anything for those rigorous, but precious years. I have yet to attend a dying patient who says “oh, if only I’d worked more”. The regrets are usually not having spent more time with their families. I know I got off on a tangent here, but it’s 3am, I can’t sleep, and lots of thoughts are running through my head. No one will probably ever read this anyway. We all take ourselves too seriously. Well, I’ll move on now to Miss Phyllis’s next video, and maybe soon sleep will come.
Margaret, it's the wee hours of the morning for me in Texas. I admire you for being a nurse and for rearing six children. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hello Miss Phyllis, Once again this was a very informative video. Thank you ! When I trim up meat like you did the pork chops today, I always save all of those trimmings and put them in a bag and freeze them until I have enough and then I make a nice stock out of them, along with some carrots, celery and onions. I even use the fat because there is flavor in the fat. Then I refrigerate the stock and when it's cold I skim the fat off and I have a very flavorful stock. I even mix different types of meat. We were quite poor when I was growing up and we had to make due and it has stuck with me all these years. I am almost 81. Thank you again I really do enjoy your video's. I so enjoy when you go up to mountain rest. Thank you for sharing so much of your life with us!!

This is 2020 and I just discovered Miss Phyllis. One note from 2012 said she has passed. I am so sorry about that. Thank you whoever is posting her videos. I am a southerner also but Southern California. So she has introduced me to real Southern cooking. I have never heard of okra before and certainly never tried it. Her videos are so instructive I have a whole stack of them to watch and foods to try. At 73 I am thrilled to learn how to cook southern style. Thank you for keeping this lovely lady alive and posting her easy-to-follow instructions! ..
I put a little dried musturd in my green beans....my dad always did when he was a chef....it really makes them taste fabulous....I like fried ocra too...watching you is like watching my mom cook...you do make everything looks easy...
Great job on that meal, Phyllis. I'd love to have it for our dinner tonight. One thing that surprised me a little is that you didn't drain the liquid off the canned green beans. I learned that from my mother. I rinse my green beans and add fresh water to them. I've never used self-rising flour for my gravy either. See, even though I'm undoubtedly older than you, I'm learning from your way of cooking. Thanks for being so detailed. It really helps.
Yes....this video is actually teaching how to cook. Its becoming a lost art, it seems, with all the prepared meals in the grocery stores now. This was quite a pleasure to watch. Thanks!
Oil in green beans is new to me. My mom and grandma always used good old bacon grease and sugar in theirs. Tastes just like homegrown beans cooked right out of the garden. Gonna try those smothered pork chops tonight! Yummy!
You are a wonderful teacher and a magnificent cook. What a star. I am so glad I have lived long enough to be a part of the digital age and find a gem like you! An expat in the U.K.
There is a lady that asked everyone to pray for you until you recover, she has her own channel where she cooks & her husband films her. She watches you, loves you & Mr Bucky! I thought that was amazing... we all are praying for you.
3/8/20, miss you so much! Just coming back for old times sake.. I’m so glad for your old videos so I can reminisce a bit and feel comforted by your calming voice and recipes! Love and miss you and Mr. Bucky...
Thank you for sharing, Ms Phyllis, the demonstrations and helpful tips are priceless. I so appreciate the multiple ideas of what to cook and that you use many ingredients that are already in my kitchen
This looks like the meals we used to have on weekends when my in-laws were living and kids were home still.. Mom would fix what she called Spanish pork chops, I don’t know why, but she browned them like you do and after taking up the chops she’d put sliced onions and bell peppers in the oil until tender and the add flour and brown that .. she’d add her water and after it all thickened she’d add drained diced tomatoes canned or sometimes fresh chopped up and put the chops back in and simmer..she served it with either rice or mashed potatoes.. we have had it over biscuits too..it was really good..
When Mrs. Phyllis says "Terry ah kha", my eyes close and a ray of sunshine goes through my heart with a big smile on my face. Miss you Phyllis and Bucky

Hi Phyllis I sometimes like to cook canned green beans and red potatoes with a teaspoon of bacon grease. Just boil together until potatoes are done. Delicious 😋
V Rdsnper myGrandma made fresh green beans with bacon and potatoes and cooked till falling apart and added a small amount of smoke flavoring and she canned them! I think sometimes she added onions and brown eyed peas! Blessing👍
I just finished an episode of "In the Kitchen w/Gina" ; she's got a bubbly personality- still I feel the need for Southern cooking (I have Southern roots but my family left everything behind (even the accent) when they moved to the East Coast! This is why I am so glad to see Phyllis telling her food prep/market stories in this early days video! I only discovered her rather recently in 2016 or 2017; I feel like she's modeling the best of Southern food- the everyday meal! So thankful for her son's vision to keep these healthy meals (and wisdom) in the public eye!
I just fried pork chops yesterday for our dinner. They were so good but I've got to give this recipe a try next time. I really enjoy your videos so much. I had just discovered your momma's videos and had just subscribed to her channel. I think its wonderful that you kept her channel going. Like I said in another comment, YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD SON AND ARE DOING HER PROUD! She would be so proud of you.

I just watched your video. This was done about 6 1/2 YEARS ago. You sure can teach an old dog new tricks! I really love the way you make a delicious 4 - 6 item meal with virtually no mess! Feel like I knew her and I miss her, but Id never want her or Mr Bucky to come back to such a world. May they both rest well, while they still bless us all.
I miss her voice, it's so soothing and calm, and kind.
She is so thorough and down to earth in her instructions. Great teacher.
I'm going back and rewatching her old videos. I took to heart so very many of her suggestions. The onion dicer - bought one, Bissell vacuum - bought one - not to mention food items I bought.
Phyllis I just love watching you two people. What a lovely couple. I can spend hours writing down your delicious meals. Thanks again.
YOU are adorable. You have come along way in your videos. Love to hear your voice. One night I was watching your Peanut Butter Pie crust video and halfway through I fell asleep in the recliner and woke up when the video was over. lol I told my husband your voice is soothing.
😊
I just learned SO MUCH!!👍 THANK YOU Phyliss! & Family for leaving these videos up. Phyliss will be teaching (& making people hungry😘) for years to come💜😎
I’m so sorry to hear this. I had just ran across her on here last evening and watched her cook and listened to her and Mr Buckys talk about their relationship. I fell in love with both of them immediately. Two very sweet people .i wish to continue watching her videos bc she is a great inspiration to me right now. As I watch her I would have found this out through the videos. Thank you for answering me. Much appreciated. 🙏☹️
I just rewatched this and loved it even more. Ms. Phyllis teaching me from the great beyond. Your light continues to shine.
God bless you Miss Phyllis...you are missed.
Just found you tonight and love your videos, recipes and you . So glad to find someone who cooks just like us old Texans and other southern cooks.
"I'll be right back!" Watching, and preparing your recipes is learning to cook for value. But you make us feel we are not alone as we cook, and safe while we go about it. Thank you for your gifts to us.
She reminded us of the old ways. The way a family sit to dinner and cook homemade . She also taught us how to do necessary tasks and how to live our lives better. We need more teachers like this.
This is wonderful and you don’t need to edit...it’s your realness, I think , in part , that makes yours such a popular channel....your down to earth ness is soooo refreshing...just keep on be Miz Phyllis and hubby, Mr Bucky.
Hi Phyllis, thank you for the tutorial on your meal...it looks wonderful...However, I would have loved to have seen everything on a plate for presentation...But I'm sure it looked good and tasted great too...thanks again Phyllis...you are certainly a great cook!!
I always felt like Phyllis was my best friend. I loved everything about her and many lessons learned in the kitchen. I still watch her videos so I don’t have to miss her so much! She was extremely easy to follow so kind and down to earth. Never will there be another Phyllis Stokes!! 😢♥️😍
Rest your soul ...you have taught me so much ..rest ANGEL💔❤️
I am praying you recover from your surgery, that you get healed from this Cancer.🙏🏻♥️
I agree, Amen🙏
She’s in heaven with Mr Bucky now 😞😢
Southern Girl mm
I am so sorry. I found this channel last week!
@@jamiecronin967 she was Amazing. Her & Mr Bucky were Great together and funny. I hope you check out all her videos & the ones her son Stevens being doing.
After you take meat out cook a fine chopped onion in the grease before making gravy. I like onion in my gravy.
Thank you for keeping this lovely lady alive and posting her easy-to-follow instructions!
..
Our Ms.Phyliss died January 25,2020.⚘
Hello Steven, I know that your Mom has passed on but I still like catching up with some of her videos. And maybe getting a chance to hear her voice.
Rita Brunetti
Oh no! I didn’t know she has passed! I just started watching her videos a couple of weeks ago. Too bad. I really enjoy her videos.😢
Rita Brunetti me too!
@@susanlester1 I'm glad so many truly loved this woman!!
She has such a soothing voice.
Thanks!
Miss You Ms Phyllis and Mr Buckie❤ Heaven gained 2 Precious Souls❤
Oil in green beans is new to me. My mom and grandma always used good old bacon grease and sugar in theirs. Tastes just like homegrown beans cooked right out of the garden. Gonna try those smothered pork chops tonight! Yummy!
I love your recipes Phyllis! Thank you for sharing them with us :)
RIP Phyllis. I loved your cooking since the first time I saw you.
You are a wonderful teacher and a magnificent cook. What a star. I am so glad I have lived long enough to be a part of the digital age and find a gem like you! An expat in the U.K.
This video is one of my favorite cooking videos, I wish everybody could explain like you. From the budget to the cooking style, you are an idol!
There is a lady that asked everyone to pray for you until you recover, she has her own channel where she cooks & her husband films her. She watches you, loves you & Mr Bucky! I thought that was amazing... we all are praying for you.
I think you're referring to Joy of Baking! I called that birds of a feather sticking together. We can all learn from both.
3/8/20, miss you so much! Just coming back for old times sake.. I’m so glad for your old videos so I can reminisce a bit and feel comforted by your calming voice and recipes! Love and miss you and Mr. Bucky...
We use the wooden clothes pins to close potato chip bags and such also. Your dinner looks wonderful.
We use the pins to, they work😀
Thank you for sharing, Ms Phyllis, the demonstrations and helpful tips are priceless. I so appreciate the multiple ideas of what to cook and that you use many ingredients that are already in my kitchen
Every video I watch I learn at least 2 or 3 things I didn’t know. Thank you Phyllis! ☮️💟
Love her easy going style. She makes it look so easy and she is so calm.
When Mrs. Phyllis says "Terry ah kha", my eyes close and a ray of sunshine goes through my heart with a big smile on my face. Miss you Phyllis and Bucky
Steven watch your mom still & you're video's every new post. Sure do miss her. She made me smile and do you
Stay safe you & . family
I am so glad we can go back and watch her. I have learned a lot from her. I love beets have never prepared them from scratch. She has such a c as calming effect on me. I appreciate that.
You are a spotless clean cook! ❤ no one will ever get sick from your cooking! Bravo!
God bless you mrs Stokes... your videos are chock full of wonderful information! I know you’re no longer with us, but your legend lives on
I watch her videos everyday, I found her after she had passed away and I was devastated when I found out. I LOVE watching her cook and I've learned a lot
This is a wonderful meal. Great information in this video! Thank you Miss Phyllis.
This video is splendid.....don’t edit anything, after all this is the way you cook and there really aren’t short cuts to cooking a meal like this. I have learned sooooooo much from you. Lots of little hints and great ideas! Thank you Phyllis and give Mr, Bucky a little hug and hug yourself from lots of viewers!
Hi Phyllis
I sometimes like to cook canned green beans and red potatoes with a teaspoon of bacon grease. Just boil together until potatoes are done. Delicious 😋
V Rdsnper myGrandma made fresh green beans with bacon and potatoes and cooked till falling apart and added a small amount of smoke flavoring and she canned them! I think sometimes she added onions and brown eyed peas! Blessing👍
V Rdsnper My mom would do the same but also cook pork steak in the same pot with it. I had forgotten all about that. It was so good.
Some Italian seasoning and a bit of lemon juice in green beans is amazing too.
Thank you sooooo much Steven for blessing us with your precious Mom's recipe videos. It's so nice to see and hear her soothing calm voice.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Still love her cooking videos so I will continue to visit. I've missed hearing her voice so much! What a special couple Miss Phyllis and Mr Bucky are to their viewers! Wishing the best to their family!
I miss her voice. She was the first person I started watching regularly on RUclips.
I just watched your video. This was done about 6 1/2 YEARS ago. You sure can teach an old dog new tricks! I really love the way you make a delicious 4 - 6 item meal with virtually no mess! My mom was a good cook WHEN she would cook but she always had me to clean up. She was such a messy cook and you are virtually MESS FREE when you cook! Thank you!🌞
Her voice was always so caulming to me as she would cook and talk seeming so relaxed.. when I am stressed I love watching her videos..and always will..Now she is cooking 🍳 in a bigger kitchen ..Rest in peace , you are loved.
Watching your sweet momma cook her smothered pork chops! I miss her so much. I love to hear her stories and her explanations of why she does things like she does. Makes perfect sense. I am watching one right after the other tonight. Here in bed fighting Covid-19 so I just let all the ads play through so that it adds more to the christian school's needs. When I'm up and at it again, I'm gonna fix some of your mom's smothered pork chops! God bless you Steve!
I so enjoyed watching your Mom cook dinner. It felt just as though I was right there at the kitchen table having a good visit. I'll bet her smothered pork chops were wonderful.
Thanks Phyllis For your time and sharing.. Am hungry for pork chops.. This is very helpful.. God bless you and Mr Buckey💛💜❤💙💚
Hi Phyllis, Oh boy,I wish I could jump through the screen,I drooled all over my blouse. The okra especially,I was raised on okra and living here in Ca. I do the frozen, Walmart has it pre breaded too and it is so good.I miss making pickled okra with my grand ma.I tried growing it here, but no luck.Thank you for giving me so many ideas and recipes, you are a doll and I adore you and Mr. Buckey.
Great recipe! Also I am going to definitely try the spiced beets! I too use clothes pins to seal my bags. Thank you Phyllis. :)
Oh how I wish I had met Phyllis when she was alive! RIP dear soul.
I was looking for a lime jello recipe when I discovered her website. I have since spent hours watching her cooking and love for it and life. Her relationship with Mr. Bucky and family have really touched my heart.
I bless her family as I know you must really miss her and her husband. I think it is wonderful how you have her website going and paying tribute to her.
Miss Phyllis, I’ve been binge watching your videos today because my Husband has been busy trying to fix our Amazon FireStick. Anyway, I just Love You. You crack me up! I like how you talk to us about green beans.. “a green bean is a green bean”. I enjoy watching you cook although several of your recipes I cannot eat because of the sugar. I am going to make your bacon and egg biscuits. More of your older videos are streaming into my feed and I must say that you are a pro now with your camera! God bless you and Mr. Buckey!
I often check what's in my freezer n then check with you for a recipe suggestion. So, tonight, it's smothered pork chops. Thanks Miss Phyllis.
I miss Mrs Phyllis and Mr Bucky so much... Thank the Lord her channel is still up. It's like an old friend talking to me while I go about my chores.
i have learned so much about what can be froze and what cant and saving left overs not just for next day but maybe next week and so much more. i love to cook and am very good at it but you are teaching me things i didnt know or better ways of doing it. you have made me more aware of how not to waste and bless you for that. my freezer is full. love you and mr, Bucky
I just found your channel yesterday and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Have you always cooked this good? You have taught me so much Thank-You
Yeah me too in fact I use to watch this show and Clara from meals from the depression. She died also and I brought to tears.
Another great Southern Meal.. YOUR THE GREATEST.. THANK YOU.
Hi Phyllis, I just want to say I enjoy your videos. I really appreciate how descriptive you are in everything you do. Since I am visually impaired this is very helpful. Thank you for your recipes and your stories to tell.
OMG Phyllis! You made me starving to death. I love all the things you cooked. I haven't had fried okra in forever. I cook most of my meat dishes like you with the addition of onions and chopped bell peppers and my green beans have a few pieces of chopped bacon. I think my cooking skills were Just 'ok' until I lived in Louisiana with Texas and Mississippi influence. I love rice and gravy. I wish you'd share all the fruits and vegetables you freeze and your process. I love hearing that information. Even at my age I'm not real knowledgeable about it but I know saving money is a must on my income and getting proper foods in me and my soon to be husband. I'd rather watch your REALITY videos than a show. You're real people like us. And yes I Love to cook and Yes it makes a mess. No cleaning fairies. 🤣
I have just run across her a few days ago I do enjoy watching her and learning, thank you so much
My mother always fried our orka in white corn meal, now I will have to try yours. Thank You Miss Phyllis
Phyllis,my mother was raised in southern Missouri, she rolled her okra in cornmeal. Oh so very good...you have awaken some good meals. Thank you.
