So, asides from your relationship with Olympus/OM System, what made you pick this camera over other similarly priced or cheaper cameras? A7 IV, X-H2s, X-T5, R6, S2, Z7, etc.
1 - I've been shooting with OM System for years now. I own a lot of accessories and all the PRO lenses for the system. It would be a massive investment to jump to a different system to ultimately do the same job. (more on this in point 8) 2 - I still believe that the weather sealing and ruggedness of these cameras beat all other brands. I've taken my OM-D through places I wouldn't dare take other cameras. I've shot at -35ºC at 6500m and +45ºC in sandstorms. Stood under waterfalls, shot in storms no matter where... these cameras just work. They don't overheat or break... not one OM-D body has ever failed me. I've slipped and fallen ONTO my E-M1X in Iceland on a glacier... nothing. (the lens broke a little though). 3 - Features - The HandHeld Hi-Res shot feature is amazing and I use it a lot and more importantly the stabilisation. No other brands comes close. I can handhold several second long exposures. I haven't shot a photo on a tripod in YEARS. Years of travel without a tripod is amazing! 4 - The portability aspect. Yes, the full-frame cameras have gotten smaller. But the lenses simply can't compete with micro 4/3. Especially the difference with the wider and telephoto lenses. I own full-frame lenses for my cinema camera and each time I'm surprised at how much chunkier and heavier they are. 5 - The price. Full-frame bodies might have gotten cheap. But lenses on a PRO level, with the weather sealing, build quality and most importantly: the sharpness level of the OM System PRO lenses (Olympus is a lens manufacturing company after-all) can't compete. 6 - Ergonomics. I love how this camera sits in my hands. Not too big, not too small. I've held Sonys and hate how uncomfortable they are. 7 - I switched to Olympus many years ago for all the above reasons (and more) and shooting with the E-M1 (Mark I) back then rekindled the joy of photography. I was excited to take my little camera out and shoot. Something I didn't feel with my Canon 1D Mark III back then. This is super subjective... but a camera that is a joy to use, always works and ultimately makes me go out more, be more creative and shoot better photos is the one I want to / should be using. 8 - Photography, as a professional, is about more than just the choice of technology. It's about the business side of things too. A relationship with a brand that trusts my visions and supports me with whatever crazy project I come up with is worth maintaining. And by 'brand' I mean the people behind the brand that I have had the pleasure of working with for years now. Even when a different brand comes out with a new piece of kit that might be 10% better in some tiny aspect... ultimately, that 10% or that new feature won't change my work. Sure, if someone re-invents the wheel... maybe I'd consider it. When I see all the RUclipsr reviewers that jump ship every time a new piece of kit is out just to get the views and money... that, to my eyes, isn't a smart way of doing business. It's money, and not relationship driven and not a long-term sustainable way of treating people. Just my 2 cents. I know that the last point (8) is super subjective, of course. But many years ago I felt like I could do better work with Olympus, so I sold everything and went for it. Not only did I do this because I could finally travel with all the kit I needed to shoot surf - but I also knew / hoped that there was a relationship I could build with this brand. And - 8 years later - this was one of the best professional decision of my life. Gear isn't everything. It's the work we do with it. So, if you are looking at a new piece of kit... just ask yourself if it will make you a better photographer and if it will help your business on the long run. And these decisions are just as subjective and personal as they are objective. Sorry for the lengthy response, but I hope you now understand where I'm coming from.
@@chriseyrewalker Your response was excellent, point driven and educational as well. I have the EM 1Mk ii (Did not feel the Mk iii was enough improvement to change) I also have the G9. I am very much considering purchasing this camera and your video was extremely helpful. Great work and thank you!
@@chriseyrewalker It may have been a lengthy reply, but ALL of your points were well developed, valid and presented in such a way that even the most ardent critic of Olympus will, if they are fair and reasonable, respect. I am a Nikon shooter and just recently purchased a used Olympus OMD EM-1 Mark II and several new lenses to include the 12-40 f2.8 PRO, the 8-25 F4 Pro and the 40-250 f4 Pro and have been very impressed with the small size, weight and ultimately, the image quality. Will I sell my large inventory of Nikon gear that includes a Z9, 2 D850s and 2 D750s and lenses, as well as my F6 and 3 F5s? Absolutely not! I will use both systems and for different shooting scenarios, especially when I shoot film. The Olympus and OM Systems cameras and lenses are a very welcome addition to my toolbox and I'm enjoying learning this new system.
I researched much of those cameras listed, too...as I was first considering the A7s, R6, or R8. Some of these variants were even more expensive with a lens, especially the Sony options. In my 40s, I find myself not wanting big kits anymore, as I had way back 15 years ago. I'm tired of fumbling around with stuff with the wife hiking off ahead and running/ jostling around to stowing huge lenses, putting on the wider angle, while trying to catch up (lol)... I came to find that the OM does better with birds (faster bursts/ processing), and has a new, excellent focus/ tracking system and even better highlight retention details than even the R8 in some comparisons I was watching, which I was not expecting. Feature-for-feature, it seems when you start comparing the smaller entry level or midrange camera options against Olympus' high end camera? You begin to see that you're pretty much getting all the features that you would in something like a 5D (and then some...) at a price point similar to a larger sensor midrange camera. So, provided you're fine with the aspect ratio? There's no comparison, especially since some of those cameras aren't fully weather sealed and you begin to consider birds. The Zuiko lens options seem so much more compact.
One of the best "real-world" reviews I've seen so far. I just love the way you work and share your thoughts with us. But up to now - I'll stick with my E-M1X even the new EVF and sensor attracts me a lot.
Thanks, Chris, for this real-world review of the new Olympus OM-1 camera! Surely, the m4/3 system is still well and alive! OMDS really delivered on this one! Its IBIS, image quality, weather-sealing, size, and performance overall are amazing! I love Olympus cameras!
Chris, while researching the EM1 a long time ago I remember calling my family to watch your videos because your tenacity in persisting with environments that project the cold even from the TV screen was admirable and inspiring (no worries there). You also being a great photographer in these harsh realms results in some truly original and stunning work. I am a long term Digital Olympus user (17 years!) and have been patiently waiting for a (any) camera that can cover my unique requirements with the additional hope that that it can cover almost every situation (especially including pro video capability)... I'm delighted to know that Olympus is the brand that has emerged to meet this requirement (and way more!). Great work over the years. Keep it up. Thanks.
Great review, indoor explanation combined with outdoors images and video. Seems that OM is targeting action, sports and wildlife photographers. The best news is that OM System will keep updating their cameras and lenses so giving confidence for their customers. The proof of the pudding will be updating the lower models to keep with new technologies.
What's your commentary on the higher price point? I think the camera price is justified, but a battery is $100 now, the grip is a whopping $350, so a full kit (body, grip, 3 extra batteries) goes up beyond USD3,000 for most buyers. Compared to the E-M1 III and its accessories that is quite the price hike.
So impressed that i subscribed right away. I can see the big difference between a well polished presentation coming from a professional in the field and a ton of other gear reviewers, some of which haven't even touched the gears they are trying to review. excellent content and story telling. looking forward to more stories in the future.
Thank You Alan! Spent some loooong days on polishing this up as best I could. But then again, the dirty work in the fields is what matters most to me. And I'm glad our projects did the camera justice.
Honestly, this this is the best, greatest and captivating review I've never seen on a camera. Just enough and well summarised technical description, and a more oriented review on the use, even if I know that I will never reach the talent and the skills that you demonstrate in your two projets which are extraordinary for a non pro. Thank you for sharing !
It was cool to see you use the 12-45 F4. I think that lens is super underrated and is a huge value in the lineup. It's so usable, and the fact that it does close-up so well is a huge bonus. Great video, man :)
My first camera was an OM-1. It was 100% manual and 35mm film roles to go with it. Loved using it. I can't wait to use the NEW OM-1. Thanks, Chris for the inspiring review of my favourite camera.
Dear Chris, Many Thanks for this comprehensive clip on the OM-1 Flagship Camera that you have made. Being an old user of Olympus since its legendary OM-4 ti SLR film Camera, I am really looking forward to getting an upgraded version of this OM-1 Camera in an upcoming OM-2 from OMD with a bigger 28 Megapixel Sensor and larger ISO rating starting from 64. This clip is one of the best I have ever seen on this Flagship Camera from OMD.
Chris, I highly value your impression, a.k.a., review, of the OM-1. Presenting it as a tool that can help a photographer / videographer create their work product is more valuable than discussing numbers on a spec sheet. Well done. Another benefit of your presentation is that it shows that the new majority owner of the Olympus camera department is carrying forward the legacy of the OM System that Yoshihisa Maitani began in 1972.
I'm only 15 minutes into this review but have paused to say, what an excellent review it is. The information you've presented, along with what I've seen from Andy Rouse has convinced me the this is the camera I've been looking for
Thanks for producing this video! I'm definitely going to buy one when I have the money! I'm glad to see that OM System has finally recognized that their primary target market for a new flagship camera is outdoor photography and created a camera to exploit that market. I am really glad to see that it has subject recognition for mammals and better tracking since I do a lot of wildlife photography and sometimes equine photography. Perhaps the subject tracking in this camera is such that I won't be buying a Sony RX10 IV for photographing birds in flight after all, especially since this camera has twice the frame rate, so even if it does miss more often, there will still be more in-focus shots to choose from. The additional dynamic range, high ISO performance, improved IBIS, and Live ND will be useful for landscape photography too. And I'm glad they haven't overpriced it like they did with the E-M1X. Going forward, OM System needs to recognize that the smaller sensors in their cameras are ideal for the following types of photography and design their cameras and lenses to exploit those strengths: 1. Real estate photography: Smaller cameras, lenses, and strobes, thanks to more depth of field at the same aperture. 2. Equine photography: The 40-150 f/2.8 is lighter than a full frame 70-200 and there is no need for a shallower depth of field. 3. Macro photography: More depth of field at the same aperture and smaller lenses plus in-camera focus stacking and bracketing. 4. Adventure photography: Less weight, better weather sealing 5. Wildlife photography: Smaller lenses with longer focal lengths make handholding possible. Pro Capture is a game changer too. 6. Sports photography: Pro Capture is a game changer. Smaller lenses are easier to handhold. 7. Travel photography: Small cameras and lenses are easier to travel with and don't cost as much if they are lost or stolen. 8. Landscape photography: Smaller, lighter lenses are easier to carry on long hikes and IBIS makes tripod unnecessary in many situations, saving even more weight. Until a few years ago, it seemed that Olympus was mostly stuck on #7 and I'm glad to see that they are finally making progress on numbers 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8 with this new camera.
I have just paid a deposit on an OM1 which will be my first Olympus camera. This video was extremely useful in satisfying me that I had made the right choice. Can't wait to get my hands on one now!
Sehr gutes Video Chris, wirklich tolle Arbeit.
Wow.
2:33 I was going to say something negative about how it performed in that photo. But then you put up the settings and realized it was a handheld photo. WOW
I've been so excited for this camera and I truly enjoyed your video from start to finish. Thank you for your efforts and inspiration, Chris! Greetings from Sweden
Try getting heated glove liners and mittens that have a fold down top exposing your fingers which will be covered by the heated glove liner. I also replaced the small batteries with larger ones I carry in my pockets connected by a usb cable going thru my coat sleeve. Have tested this setup in 2F here in the Hudson Valley for over two hours and the bigger batteries could have gone many more hours. My fingers were toasty warm and I was able to use all the controls on the camera including the touch screen. The liners have a special pad that works on the touch screen.
Yes, I ordered the camera. But that's not what I wanted to say here. Here, I want to simply say I was awed and inspired by your creative and artistic approach to these projects. The 39 minutes of this video was a true pleasure to watch and at the very top of my list for quality work on RUclips.
Nice video. Thanks! Just got my hands yesterday on my first MFT camera and I absolutely love it. I got a Lumix G80 with a Zuiko lense andit is fantastic. I used to shoot on FF Canon but now I just wanna shoot with my small camera all the time. It is light, small, and it delivers great quality. Next camera I wanna buy is Olympus Pen. Love to see more people that shoot on MFT cameras. It deserve much more...
This looks like a solid new camera from OM! I've owned the Em1 III since it's release and I love that camera. It looks like they took everything from the Em1 III and made it even better. Wow. I'm excited for the future of m43! Great review!
Looks like one seriously big upgrade and a camera to be reckoned with. I bought the original OM-1 in 1975 (and still have it!), and I just wish that all Olympus users/enthusiasts should start a campaign for Olympus to allow OM System to continue using the famous Olympus name on all future OM System cameras. The legacy should continue!
It sure is a respectable upgrade! I have a few original OM-1's around the house too. Love them! It might be sad to see the Olympus logo go... but it's still embedded in the OM name I suppose. Also, I don't think the people behind OM System will ever forget where they came from. The legacy will live on.
Normally these sorts of reviews from ambassadors etc bore me, since they’re too party line, too hype, or too fake feeling. Thanks for providing a real look at your view of the camera! I can’t wait to check out more of your work
You're always one of the best reviewers on YT, particularly with the provenance of coming from a real working pro'. Many, many superb images and footage from what seems to be an excellent tool for professional work. Good to see OM Systems 'come back' with such a fine camera.
That mountain biking video was incredible… I am buying this camera right now if it can make me be able to produce such awesomeness🤪😅 in all seriousness, the MTB videos was exceptional and, I know you produced it as a way to demonstrate the kinds of content that could be created with this camera… but it just reminded me of the incredible skill and know how that must be obtained to produce such a work. I realize this in every area of life… there is no free lunch. Commit to your craft, become excellent in performing it and do not tire in your pursuit of excellence. Such skill… it is truly excellent and it seems to be such a shame that it is so evanescent.
As always, the best (by a distance) review of Olympus/OM. Hugely engaging to me and my sort of dreams (and occasional reality). Fabulous storytelling and the best explanation of how and why on the internet. That 12-100 might be just the thing for my next expedition. I'm going to sell various bits to fund it! So much love to you dude. Inspiration lived!.
Thank you so much for this great video. I still shoot with the E-M1 II - I never got round to upgrading. Coming from FF cameras before I've often been tempted to return, but I love weather that most people would rather stay indoors and Oly - oops OM - has always allowed me to dismiss those concerns of weather sealing. In addition good glass does not come cheap so selling out to jump ship, is only doable for those who can afford to. I've been waiting for a worthy upgrade and your video has inspired me to trade in my old MK II for this great looking tool - can't wait.
Thanks for watching. Happy to hear that you’re sticking around with OM System. Honestly, the OM-1 will definitely be a big jump up from the Mark II and you’ll most certainly love it.
I’m looking to upgrade from a 10 year old OMD EM10, the resolution of new cameras are getting wild, 40 Mb for some Fuji, but going over to another system would make the lenses I have redundant, so the improvements over the past 10 years and the added 50Mb and 80Mb focus stacking options, as well as the weather sealing is definitely making me lean to the new OM1, as I will be moving to a warmer climate, where humidity, and sand will be factors. I’m also keen in utilising the focus stacking for astrophotography / night photography. This potentially, seems like an ideal camera for my uses.
I shoot football (soccer) at a junior level with my Canon M50. It gets alot of hate online but I have achieved brilliant shots (as per feedback given to me). I want to start getting into video as well now and IBIS is something I am considering and have been eyeing off the OM-1 for some time. This video was excellent. Very informative and to the point ! Earned a new sub. Great work Chris ! 👌
Thanks for the time you spent on putting up this video. My first mirrorless camera was the OMD EM5 first version. Back then it was a great little camera. Something I could take with me anywhere when I get tired of lugging around the Full frame DSLRs.. Fast forward 2021/2022, I still have the OMD EM5 + 25mm 1.8. No plans of selling it. I still shoot with canon and Fuji systems too. I was never happy with the OMD EM1 mk 3 AF. Pretty incosistent for my liking when shooting birds in flight not to mention, I could not push the ISO to 6400 whereas I could easily push my Full frame to 12,800 or even higher when needed to shoot wildlife in twilight.. OM-1 looks great but thing is, the price is in the Full Frame territory. For someone who don't need 120fps or someone not sliding down the snow slopes or shooting in blizzard, it's hard to justify spending that much money for a sensor that's half the size. At least it's good to see that Olympus camera market is still keeping afloat despite the heavy competition nowadays.
I love your studio aesthetics. So warm and cozy! Such a great review btw! Honestly even I did a specs review about the OM-1 I am not a guy who is care about specs but more like the usage as you said. Unfortunatelly I had only 1.5 days to test out so lucky you to use it long therm. Really really great and inspiring review and amazing photos! The pixel peep guys need to watch your video for sure! Subbed and hope we will work on an Olympus project in the future!
Hi Chris thank you so much for your review to the OM-1 which give us all a real and close impression what makes the difference to the EM-Cameras in the real world of a professional photographer at work. I really love your long and intensiv views to the products and your work experiences with them. I also honor the engagement of the new Digital Solutions Company for the improvement and enthusiasm for MFT. Best regards, Roland
Thanks for a great video. I think they surpassed themselves and did much better than anyone expected. I see a lot of enthusiasm on the internet and think it will sell well. M4/3 is alive and kicking.
Mounteering, motorsports and equestrian are my subjects so weather is major issue. I have been looking at the OM system for this reason. Your experiences have enlightened me. I shall be picking the OM1, improvements in the EVF and articulating screen over the EM1-X make the difference, and the 12-100mm F4 Pro along with the 100-400 will part of the new setup.
Great to see a review that features something other than wildlife shooting! I hope it works out for OMDS because I use their products and want them to succeed.
I would love to try an OM-1 Out I am currently using a Sony a7r III with the Sony 200-600 mm but i kinda feel its a bit on the heavy side and would like to go back to my roots as Olympus was the first brand of camera I used back in the day when i first discovered photography. Great video thank you.
I feel this is the perfect camera for 1. wildlife & Sports shooters with that explosive FPS rate and improved C AF. 2. Landscape photographers with it's Live ND, Handheld high res mode. 3. PhotoJournalists. 4. And yeaahh it can do as an event camera as well. It is a fine product with a solid evolution over em1 mk 3. Hope they do well.
This is an incredible video. I am inspired, motivated, and emotionally drawn into what I can do with this new OM-1 camera. You probably have no idea how refreshing your presentation is to me; as opposed to so many others who: a) have never held or used the camera, or b) have so many negatives to present, that they lose the inspirational totality of what you presented -- which is the complete performance of the new camera together, and what all those improved features can do for me. I can understand why OM Systems have selected you as a spokes-person. Keep working, inspiring and motivating others -- simply by doing your own work, please! My professional field is about as far from yours as one can get -- and has been largely ignored by Olympus -- I shoot primarily Weddings, and some portraits, and I use Olympus/OM System gear exclusively. Thank you again for your inspiring post.
Thank You so much for your kind words. Made my day! My partner Ashley shoot weddings, documentary and portraits with OM System cameras too. She cares even less about the gear… you can find her work on IG: @ashleyjoannaphotography
@@chriseyrewalker I admit, I do care about the equipment -- but ONLY as far as it can improve the product I am able to submit to my Clients! I am getting better, though, as I don't care about, for example, how the new Sensor works -- all I need to know is that it IS faster & better than the MkIII. I will look up Ashley's work as soon as I can -- looking forward to that. These new Cameras have SO much power to help in bringing images, that I have to respect all the development work that Olympus & OM Systems have put into them.
I went to canon R6 cause of the videospecifiaction. Before i had olympus omd em 1 Mark III and i really miss that System for fotography. I love the inovation behind the company and it is a niche product for me. Maybe i will go with two systems. I love your work Chris your are my favorit photographer out there and i wish i could do what you do.
I am a full-frame shooter (due to my love for vintage lenses) but I am impressed how far 4/3 cameras were coming. I am planning to move to another continent with a lot of rain and I am considering to sell my 160 lenses and numerous full-frame cameras and to switch to the OM-1 for not having to deal with humidity concerns for my gear. I also like the idea for not walking/driving around with intimidating lenses and having a great combination of photo and video capabilities. 20MB photo format is sufficient for my scope of work (Internet). Currently I am even using sometimes my old A7S with vintage lenses and the resulting 12MB pictures are more than large enough for getting published in the web. My 42MB cameras are hardly used since I am composing my shoots properly and must not need to crop much. So thank you for providing me inspiration how I might be able to use the OM-1 for my work.
Don't sell those vintage lenses! Get.a Metabones Speedbooster Ultra! If those 160 lenses are all on the same mount, the MSU is a bargain! Even if split among several mounts, than number of lenses justifies several speed boosters. I shoot a LOT of Olympus OM film lenses on my OM-D bodies. A good speed booster makes an old lens sing on µ4/3rds!
Thanks. I'm glad you found it helpful. But I'm sure some more technical reviewers will do a better, less subjective, deep-dive into the numbers. Something I'm not too interested (or good) in.
Hi, just watched this video. Loved it especially the reality check chapter. I would love to see either a video or blog post on your OM System travel kit. I could use a light weight system for traveling.
I truly enjoy viewing your work and listening to your thoughts Chris! This review is not only helpful but inspirational in that I can see how much more room I have to improve. You are a fantastic photographer and ambassador for OM! I look forward to seeing more of your work within the OM System in the future. I am pre-ordering the OM-1 because of you. Thank you!
I've been growing with the M4/3 format for the last three years while I've been living in Rwanda and the benefits of the system are perfect for me. Lightweight, rugged, durable, versatile, and affordable. However, there are a few things I've been looking for... namely better autofocus, better low-light performance, and a new sensor for improved image quality. I think the OM-1 might be my perfect next camera.
Hey Chris, I was going to be something epic and I was right! It's great to see more videos like yours that people are discussing ideas and creativity, not just some technical data. Your projects in Norway is something very similar to the work I do, just without this epic backdrop :) I was thinking for some time if I should change systems, but now with this new machine, vastly improved AF and low light I'm very optimistic for the future of the system. Thank you the inspiration, I think this is the main idea and purpose of youtube videos!
This has been the best bike promotion video I’ve ever seen - everything is so amazingly done: the action, the slow motion, the angles, the music etc. My question is about the music used in the video. What’s the name of the artist and this epic dubstep piece? Siri only managed to recognise the intro piece, not the rest, which I assume are either custom made or sections of different pieces stitched together?
I have decided I am going to shoot my EM1x this summer and early fall. Then will switch over to the OM1. I have the Elk Rut here in the HOH rainforest to shoot first and I trust my EM1X. The OM1 better EVF and tracking will be nice though.
Well said!. Refreshing to see a professional getting the most out of a product instead of a reading a checklist of what it should have, but doesn't. I love the micro four thirds system. I've used it from the start. I started with a E-1 four thirds system. Olympus glass is unbeatable. The 12-100mm f4 is favourite travel lens. People still laugh when they ask me what I use. Anything that's not full frame can't be good can it?
Was wondering where you'd been for the last few months...now I know! Good to see you back with another intelligent and 'reflective' review. Will look forward to catching up with your other behind the scenes videos. Thanks again.
Extremely interesting review of this new OM camera, Chris, many thanks! I truly appreciated the usability vs the usual technical geek-ware! By the way your dog did not wait until the end ... 👋😎
(more on this in point 8)
2 - I still believe that the weather sealing and ruggedness of these cameras beat all other brands.
Glad you found it useful.
You most certainly won’t regret the jump up from the Mark II to the OM1.
Ultimately, I hope I left you inspired and keen to go out and capture your next story. So get off your screen and go outside everyone ;-)
That footage is certainly inspiring. Wow. Talented guy you are.
Thanks
So impressed that i subscribed right away. I can see the big difference between a well polished presentation coming from a professional in the field and a ton of other gear reviewers, some of which haven't even touched the gears they are trying to review. excellent content and story telling. looking forward to more stories in the future.
Thank You Alan! Spent some loooong days on polishing this up as best I could. But then again, the dirty work in the fields is what matters most to me. And I'm glad our projects did the camera justice.
Your utilitarian perspective on the OM-1 is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks very much, Chris.
I've just bought one. The viewfinder and monitor alone are worth the extra.
absolutely!
great story! loved the plastic project.
Just waiting on delivery of my OM-1.
You have really ramped up the excitement level around here!
Good information wonderfully well presented.
Glad it was helpful! And enjoy the new camera ;-)
Chris unlike some reviewers (who shall remain nameless), you ooze honesty! Thank you for such a balanced review.
I appreciate that, thank you!
It was cool to see you use the 12-45 F4. I think that lens is super underrated and is a huge value in the lineup. It's so usable, and the fact that it does close-up so well is a huge bonus. Great video, man :)
Great review Chris! You've concluded what I've been telling people for years. The camera's job is to inspire you, and get out of the way.
My first camera was an OM-1. It was 100% manual and 35mm film roles to go with it. Loved using it. I can't wait to use the NEW OM-1. Thanks, Chris for the inspiring review of my favourite camera.
Have you seen the old OM-1 in the background on the right side ;-)
From 31:20 you said the magic words! Thank you for this amazing review!
The information you've presented, along with what I've seen from Andy Rouse has convinced me the this is the camera I've been looking for
I've been tracking reviews about OMD-EM3 and what I found lacking I now see are in the OM-1. Thank you for a wonderful and excellent review.
Going forward, OM System needs to recognize that the smaller sensors in their cameras are ideal for the following types of photography and design their cameras and lenses to exploit those strengths:
4. Adventure photography: Less weight, better weather sealing
I’m still happy with my EM5 2 and EM1 2. But now I have the OM 1. WOWEE! ITS AMAZING!
I have just paid a deposit on an OM1 which will be my first Olympus camera. This video was extremely useful in satisfying me that I had made the right choice. Can't wait to get my hands on one now!
Wow, no wonder they chose you for their ambassador. Your photos are simply astounding! People like Nigel Danson could learn a lot from you
Thank you for showing the potential of this lens.
Sehr gutes Video Chris, wirklich tolle Arbeit.
Wow.
Great review. Once again you have proved that those people who said "M43 is not for professional" don't know what they are talking about.
The light weight and smaller lenses is a real compelling reason to shoot with Olympus now. The new camera sounds great! :)
This was far the best review of new Om-1 camera i've seen today. Thanks so much Chris.
I shoot with Fujifilm's X-T3 & XT4 currently. I am so impressed with your presentation, I am conremplating a move to OM-1. Well done!
Agreed, but those are also great cameras!
2:33 I was going to say something negative about how it performed in that photo. But then you put up the settings and realized it was a handheld photo. WOW
Gotta keep things in perspective. At those temperatures at night my hands aren't as steady as I'd like them to be ;-)
Fantastic video, great work!!!!
I've been so excited for this camera and I truly enjoyed your video from start to finish. Thank you for your efforts and inspiration, Chris! Greetings from Sweden
Thanks for watching the whole thing ;-)
BEST VIDEO EVER! Especially the last 5 minutes!! Well done!!
One of the best and most engaging photography reviews I have seen so far! Great work Chris!
Thanks 👍
My photography journey started with Olympus for that I will always be thankful for learning photography with that brand.
Thanks Chris for a fabulous review of the new OM-1 I cannot wait to get my hands on one. Long Live OM System.
Wow! Fantastic thought provoking video with a lot of information. I really did not realize how 39 minutes had gone. Kudos Chris.
Nice video.
You are a fantastic creator and storyteller. Great review! definitely subscribed!
Thanks Andrew. Much appreciated.
The entire video's great!😍 But damn that E-Bike promo video!🔥🔥just blew my mind! My goodness👏👏
Thanks! Full version coming tomorrow. Stay tuned 😉
Only 3 mins in and I am so amazed by these photos!
So great footages and one of the best videos about a new camera I've every seen on YT. Thx a lot for share this with us. Jog
It done, 2 lenses, 1 camera and a loads of filters sold! 12-100 bought!
Great video! really loved the profound wrap up.
Me too about to retire and plan to travel around Australia aiming for birds in flight .will keep my mk 2 as back up ….can’t wait
Thanks Chris, mine is on order….. great video.
So inspiring Chris, thanks for sharing your amazing work! Feels good to have people like you in the OM System community :)
Thank You!
Thanks for the excellent review Chris, the 40 minutes flew by and it helped me immensely 👍👍
My pleasure
A truly amazing review
Thanks Chris. Stunning shots and video. . can't wait to see more content
Glad you enjoyed it Definitely check out the MTB films too ;-)
Thanks for the time you spent on putting up this video.
This is what I struggle with. Advantage to M4/3 is lens size
Thanks for the honest real world assessment. I have pre-ordered one as it is a great improvement on my E-M1 mk2
What an amazing camera
Great to see a good real world and honest review of the new camera. It is impressive. Thank you.
Best regards,
Roland
As a EM5 and Pen F user previously this seems very attractive, especially given the Hi Res mode.
I feel this is the perfect camera for
1. wildlife & Sports shooters with that explosive FPS rate and improved C AF.
2. Landscape photographers with it's Live ND, Handheld high res mode.
3. PhotoJournalists.
4. And yeaahh it can do as an event camera as well.
It is a fine product with a solid evolution over em1 mk 3.
Hope they do well.
Amazing video, this camera are amazing, can't wait to take mine
Excellent video really inspiring piece. And I love the OM1 Film camera in the background
Thanks a lot! Couldn't have not have it in the frame now, could I ;-)
This is an incredible video.
A great presentation - really want one,! Looking forward to when available in shops so I can have ago and compare against the OMD1 iii.
Best review on the OM-1! The video output is amazing.
Glad you liked it
Thanks for your very good and interessting Video about the new OM-1!
I love your work! All the best! 👍 Wolf from Austria
Your work is amazingly good
The best review for the camera by far.
Thanks. I'm glad you found it helpful. But I'm sure some more technical reviewers will do a better, less subjective, deep-dive into the numbers. Something I'm not too interested (or good) in.
Love it Chris, well done! Its time to upgrade.
Thank you!
I appreciate that!
And enjoy the OM-1! :-)
I think the OM-1 might be my perfect next camera.
get a R3
@@DAVE_WHITEdo you mean a Canon R 3?? It costs $5000 and weights 822 g body only..
Hey Chris, I was going to be something epic and I was right! It's great to see more videos like yours that people are discussing ideas and creativity, not just some technical data.
Your projects in Norway is something very similar to the work I do, just without this epic backdrop :)
I was thinking for some time if I should change systems, but now with this new machine, vastly improved AF and low light I'm very optimistic for the future of the system.
Thank you the inspiration, I think this is the main idea and purpose of youtube videos!
Excellent and informative, as well as entertaining.
Fantastic video and review, thanks a lot for this!
Thanks. Anyone laughing at 'what you use' is totally missing the point of photography.
Was wondering where you'd been for the last few months...now I know! Good to see you back with another intelligent and 'reflective' review. Will look forward to catching up with your other behind the scenes videos. Thanks again.
Yeah... been a few busy months haha. But stoked with the outcome and feedback so far. Made it all worth it.
Nice overview, looking forward to when you dig into the details, especially video modes.
After recieving a production unit.
A comprehensive and insightful review with excellent narrative, thank you
My pleasure!
Great stuff, as always. Loved the "reality check" chapter. Keep up the great work !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Extremely interesting review of this new OM camera, Chris, many thanks! I truly appreciated the usability vs the usual technical geek-ware! By the way your dog did not wait until the end ... 👋😎
Really interesting info. Nicely surprised about hearing even the things you didn't like. Certainly inspires trust. Well done.
Thanks for watching William
Loved this. Some serious skills in play
Thanks Jeremy!
Brilliant man! I am pumped to smash out some slow mo.
