you are the best reviewer, nobody wants to see some random youtuber talking for hours about camers specs in their "office". We wanna he how the equipment handles on the field and you cover everything that we all really cared about. good job as always
It's just wonderful to see how happy a bloke can be rolling around in mud on a cold morning trying to get a photo of a small bird going about its day. I can totally understand it of course, as you said "where else would you rather be?". As for whether to go out or not, as they say "the more you go out, the luckier you get". Nice work Duade, nature is just the best.
Thanks Mick, 100% agree and yes, I would never have dreamed 15 years ago that laying in the mud watching little birds wander around could evoke so much excitement and joy. I am really grateful I discovered it. Cheers, Duade
I think you showed why so many hikers and outdoor enthusiasts really enjoy micro four-thirds cameras. Having an 800mm camera lens that you can just tote around with you is amazing to anyone who grew up in the film days. I ALWAYS carry my MFT camera with me on hikes, the full frame almost always gets left when I'm not sure what I might shoot that day. Great video, Duade! Love your enthusiasm for the outdoors! Very infectious!
I watch a lot of wildlife photography videos and I can honestly say this is one of the best. I live in the UK so Australian birds are unknown to me so even more interesting to see and you captured them beautifully.. I like how you show both the finished and RAW shot, that is very instructive. I am close to my eighth decade and carry weight is now a serious issue for me when out birding, you have pretty much convinced me with this video that my future lies with Olympus. I've subscribed and look forward to more content.
Long time lurker on this channel, but I just wanted to say how awesome and positive your videos are. I do wildlife photography as a fun way of getting out of the office, and I've learned a heap from your videos :D
Great video Duade. A beautiful setting. The OM1 is a fab camera which offers so many features for the wildlife photographer. I make videos on my youtube channel mostly about the OM1 and it's a camera and m43 a system, that are very misunderstood by many people. Great results for less than the competitors. Well done😀😀
It is fantastic that we have so many wonderful Cameras capable of high level wildlife photography! The OM1 give us the freedom to be in the nature with no complaints about weather, or capabilities, or size and weight! I just bring my OM1 (+ Oly 12-100 and Leica 100-400) for my climbing adventures in the Mountains and combine my favorite hobbies perfectly! I really hope that the M43 system remain strong, keeping profitability in a FF hyped world. Like you I use different systems and sometimes FF is the system to choose, but in MANY occasions I just want to be in the Nature to FEEL the Nature, and I want the right equipment with me that gives me this Freedom!
I love how you show the raw files before editing. Looking at a lot of photography channels you'd think the images came straight out of camera perfect. Also fun to see you with the OM Systems camera. I've been an Olympus fan for years, though I didn't get an Olympus m43 camera until 2019. Still using that E-M1 Mark II today.
Thanks for sharing this photo outing. I must say that I am blown away by the auto focus capabilities of that OM-1 that you just shown. Back-lit or low light , the camera looked like it was picking up and tracking the birds effortlessly. I have been looking for an « affordable » lightweight mirorless replacement for my D500 and 200-500 combo for a couple of years now, and I think that without trying, you just sold me on that OM system combo.

@@Duade Wonderful review, love to see the enthusiasm! You seemed to have a lot of fun with this camera and I was wondering if you still use it and if you'll be reviewing the OM-1 Mark II! I'm currently looking into a camera upgrade (from a Nikon D3200) to either a R6 Mark II or a OM-1 Mark II and the price (also of the lenses) seem really attractive for the OM-1. Any thoughts?
@@joshuax8 G'day, apologies for the delay, yes, still use the OM-1 from time to time, I find the AF for BIF very good and enjoy using the 300 f4, a very light kit. The R6II and 200-800 would be another kit but a lot heavier and bigger. Nikon cannot be far away from a D500 mirrorless which paired with one of their light primes would be amazing or one of their zoom lenses. Almost too many options, Cheers, Duade
When you have fun we all have fun. The whole vlog was absolutely stunning and it thrilled my little heart and soul. If I made a choice of favourite, it would be those backlit shots of the Red-kneed Dotterels. Thank you for rising early and getting covered in mud yet again :)
Having watched so many of the recent YT videos, it seems like the OM-1 is the best camera ever made for sports and wildlife photography. It's capability is simply amazing!
This is what I love on your videos. The ones you are out on the field. Being overcome with emotion at the glory of nature is something I wonder if others felt the same way. Keep up the great work.
Hi Daude! Watching you enjoying the environment and have fun with this camera is nice to watch! I Bought my OM1 with the 100-400 two weeks ago for birdphotography and I realy enjoy to use it . Can't wait for more videos with your OM1 :) Cheers from Poland.
What I loved most about this video had nothing to do with the gear. Admittedly, I've been fascinated by the OM Systems offerings. At 8:13 I saw someone who was overcome by their life's passion. There was no place you'd rather be in that moment. This is what's so inspiring about wildlife photography. The heavens declare the Glory of God, Amen.
Your videos do nothing else other than inspire me to get better and learn more. In my opinion, this is among the best channels on RUclips when it comes to photography!
What an awesome session you had Duade. It's funny how the times you don't feel like going and you force yourself to head out are the sessions where you get your best photos.
thanks so much for this lovely video. the shots are so fabulous as ever love the reelection shot at 7:07 the most. and yes Olympus gear is so much fun to bird with. thanks again.
Another really great video. Lovely morning, great bird photos, enjoyed it thoroughly! And on top of it you had the OM-1 and 100-400 in hand, great to see for those of us that are OM-1 shooters. I also appreciate that you used the middle of the road gear, that setup, while not cheap, is certainly a lot more affordable than the same body with the 150-400 which is out of reach for many of us. Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks, it is my pleasure, I wanted to try the zoom as it was half the price of the 300 f4 and I know many people would be interested in this lens. Cheers, Duade
Yay! Another great video! The dotterel shots in that golden light! Wow! Almost worth getting in that mud. You might consider some inexpensive chest waders that fishermen use. At least they’ll keep the water out of your pants and you can just hose off when you get home. Congratulations on those dotterel shots!
Great photos! As many have suggested I would also recommend trying out the 300mm F4 IS PRO lens, its quite a bit sharper even with the MC-14 teleconverter and has way bettery image stabilization, because the 300mm supports Sync IS. I also recommend ETTR with Olympus/OM SYSTEM cameras. The sensors aren't that good at recovering shadows, but are capable of recovering highlights. Even with the higher ISOs the noise isn't a problem, because of the great noise reduction softwares we have now (eg. Lightroom new denoise, DxO Pure Raw etc.)
Loved the way you experienced all this Duade. I had the impression it was close to spiritual for you. Humbling, awe inspiring and gratefull. Happy for you!
You are so lucky to live in an area with such vast nature. I have to share tiny spots with dozens of other people doing their free time things. But hey if you finally have a spare moment in nature without other people buzzing around you going into crossing your field of view it is worth it even more. Great video once more. Seems the OM-1 is very useable.
Mate !!!! WOW That was Amazing I really enjoyed the video and just Love your passion and excitement. Its Thursday today and Black Friday tomorrow so I am going to get myself an OM-1 been thinking about it for ages . You have really put a fire under me now to get out there. Your excitement is contagious. I just Subed,Liked,Belled,Commented and going to check out your other videos, Really hoping you have something on that monitor you had on your camera. I have a bad back and love Macro and Bird photography and think that would help me out a lot with all the bending over with Macro. Thanks again, Please keep up the great work.
Thanks so much for the comment and glad to hear you are enjoying the videos. Here is a video about the monitor, Cheers, Duade ruclips.net/video/KrHDBJZxhyg/видео.html
Duade I enjoyed your videos before you bought your OM1 but as a long time Olympus user and an OM1 owner for over a year, this video brought a big smile to my face. My wife shoots with a Sony A7R4 and a 200-600 and in the conditions you shoot in this video with her 60mp and high dynamic range she would beat me everytime except for flight shots. However, we recently spent a moth in Panama shooting birds in very difficult conditions. Half the time we are hiking through dense forest trying to photograpgh small birds while squating down shooting between branches (tripods are useless here) with dificult light. This is where the speed, autofocus and incredible ibis of the OM1 with my compact 300F4 meant it easily out performed my wifes A7R4 and I suspect almost any other system on the market. Just a couple of tips, first I believe from your video you were using C-AF with tracking. When using subject detection turn off tracking and use just C-AF. Second I found that grass seems to distract the autofocus more than branches like when you were shooting the parrots. I suggest using a smaller focus area and keep it above the grass. This is where subject detection is a game changer. No longer do we have to try to "get the eye". all you have to do is touch the bird with the autofcus area and subject detection will lock on quickly and do the rest.
Love the in the field videos. I totally relate to your excitement over the beautiful sunrise and wading birds. To quote you, where else would you want to be!
Hi Duade. Love the ground-level perspective footage, I'm impressed by the very nice photos of the Dotterels. If you have the chance then I suggest you try the OM-1 with the "PRO" lenses (300 F/4 or 150-400 F/4.5, the latter is however very difficult to get hold of as the demand is much higher than the supply). Then you will be able to take advantage of SH2 @50 fps. Furthermore, these lenses are weather and dust sealed so should you happen to drop the gear in the mud then just rinse it under the tap or shower. Cheers, Tord.
Hi, intested it against 200-600 Sony on A1. Benefit of the lens for the price unfortunately wasn’t there. It’s truly amazing piece of glass. Once you compared real world examples with resolution 1:1 on camera like that, a1 is even with smaller relative focal length better
I loved those Red Kneed Dottrels. Especially with some of the side and back lighting. Stunning light for them. It looked like so much fun for you. The enthusiasm you have Duade is so infectious, it really is.
Great field video again this time, Duade - thank you for sharing! Fantastic you got out of bed, tried out the new location & had a cracking morning! Good on ya, mate!! Some excellent habitat there & plenty of willing subjects to shoot. Wonderful array of photos again this round & really special Red-kneed Dotteril shots.... You definitely have some sweet images of that species now. Good for you on such a memorable outing & glad you're enjoying your micro 4/3rds choice. May it bring you many inspiring images as you continue to become familiar with it. The tracking & IQ from it do seem quite good! May you enjoy your sessions there & hope this autumn continues to bring you many unexpected treasures. Best regards ~ Chris
Thanks Chris, I appreciate it and yes I am happy I got out of bed for this one. It is cold and foggy this morning which is a sign winter is on its way. Take care, Duade
Fantastic light and spot Duade. Love my OM-1 but I use the 300 F4 and sometimes the 1.4 teleconverter. This lens is razor sharp as well as the 40-150 F 2.8. The 100-400 is a little soft at the long end but still a great lens. I would love to be able to afford the 150-400 F4.5 that is the ultimate lens for birding. As for tracking, the only time I use it is for a clear shot eg a bird with only sky background, try the pro capture you will be amazed ! Cheers from New Zealand
Don't you just love it when you overcome that lazy voice inside you. You get up a make the effort to get good light -- and it's a total success! You got some absolutely stunning images on this shoot! Congrats, and thanks for sharing.
Fantastic pictures Duade! Love the one @ 7:02 You just proved that a camera is just a tool and it's about the photographer... M43 is an amazing system with the advantage of being so versatile, small and lightweight. Both Olympus and Panasonic have great bodies and glass. Olympus lenses (specially Pro glass) are stellar! Amazing landscape and wildlife you have there! Lucky you! 😁 Cheers from Portugal.
Really interested to see what settings you used for both stationary and birds in flight. I pair with my OM-1 both the 300mm lens and the 100-400, but have struggled with the latter (obviously nothing to do with the operator😁). Your process for editing the images will be interesting to see as well. Great video as always.👍
Thanks Larry, I do find the 100-400 to be a little inconsistent at the long end and nowhere near as sharp and consistent as the 300 f4 but costs half the price. I was using AFC, wide area with bird detection I think for BIF and often switched to spot for when the camera struggled. Cheers, Duade
What a wonderful video Duade. Thank you for taking me and all your other followers out with you on that beautiful morning. On the right day (well probably most days) Winton Wetlands is the most fantastic location. Plenty of brilliant shots from the Olympus kit as well. Over recent weeks and months you've certainly proved that Canon, Nikon, Sony and Olympus are all capable of taking great images - in the right hands and the right place at the right time! It's really good to see how much pleasure you get from these experiences. Thanks again, keep up the great work, and best wishes. John Clark
Love these in the field videos .. I can relate to the excitement and joy .. Just back from 2 weeks of chasing Birds, Bears, Alligators, and Wolves in the swamps and grasslands of North Carolina in some of the most beautiful settings and light and your videos perfectly evoke those same feelings. Well done !
Hi Duade, thanks again for another excellent video. I just want to say that you've earnt every success you get with the extremes you go through to get such incredible photos, I'm not physically able to do what you do & can only enjoy what you do so thankyou so much. For the record, the pics of the Red-kneed Dotterel are exceptional, what a beautiful bird that is. Cheers & keep them coming mate.
Fantastic video as usual! Your storytelling is second to none mate and you really showcase well what is like to "get dirty" when out in the field. I shoot with an OM-1 so that makes it that little bit more relatable despite you shooting in pretty much perfect conditions vs my constant struggle with the gloominess of the UK 😅 I'd suggest if you can have a go with the 150-400, it has the sharpness of the 300 F4 with the versatility of the 100-400 (at a premium for sure). Anyhow, and brands aside, your videos always get the creative juices flowing and make me want to get out, so if only for that, Thanks!
Thanks for the comment, yes, the conditions were perfect which is not always the case, I actually went out previously and had fog roll in and end the session before it started and the second attempt the park was closed for shooting feral animals. This was actually my third attempt at the video :-) Cheers, Duade
Wonderful video mate!!! Not easy to say which photo i liked best because i loved all of them, but if i had to choose i think it would be the photo of the Red-kneed Dotterel in 10min 25 sec of the video. Also the scenery was amazing. I also have to say that it looked impressive the combo you used. Would like to see that camera with the 150-400 4.5 with the built it extender. Think that would be a killer combo. Looking forward to your next video. Cheers, Bjoern
Fantastic Duade, this kit has been my go to for over 12 months. Your skills are next level, I enjoyed the video and explanations immensely. Pity I did not watch this yesterday may have been out of bed earlier today.
I love the manner in which you display the raw file including a black crop outline right after the processed version. That's often the missing information I'd like to know when viewing others' images online.
The genuine emotion on display in those opening moments surrounded by that quite amazing view dragged me into the scene, and for a brief moment, I was there. Sub earned. Well done.
I love your passion for wildlife Duade. You can truly tell you loved your time in the mud. On another note: The OM-1 is a wonderful camera system. I look forward to your review. Please try the Olympus 300 f/4 IS lens if you have the opportunity. I am convinced you will love it for your bird photography. Thanks, as always, for sharing your knowledge and passion. You are an inspiration.
Really enjoyed this format & your commentary in this video! Glad I came across your channel - I have JUST purchased the OM-1 and I'm from Victoria too. RUclips recommendation was spot on 👌 subscribed 👏✌️ look forward to future videos
I was out the other day by the river and after 45 mins I was thinking of moving on but an Australian voice came into my head and said "give it another 15 mins mate" . I did and I got some superb shots of a bird I wasn't expecting to see. I have also started to lie down next to the lake in my local park. I don't care what people think as they walk by, as it makes even the most mundane waterfowl look so much better. Thanks again for the inspiration
Awesome Pictures Duade, very nice to see you are having so much fun no matter what gear you use and amazing results as always. Have a great day! Marco.
Honestly one of the most wholesome and heartwarming reviews I've ever seen. I love your channel (you even featured me once in a video about the R7! Nick Byrne Osprey in flight with a half eaten fish!) I have now fully converted to the OM1 Mark ii with this lens and a few of the Pro series lenses. I know its difficult and you can't cover every camera but I'd love to see your opinions on the OM1 Mark ii in a future video! I'm thrilled you had such a great time in this video, great to see mate!
One of your best videos for sure!! Great session & amazing photos! My husband & I both have MFT with 100-400mm lenses and we love them. Means we can get out there & carry our gear anywhere at anytime. I still haven't been to Winton Wetlands. Made me furious to think people with guns will be shooting at all those beautiful birds over the next 4 weeks. Looked so lovely & tranquil when you were there.
Another great video! There have been many days where I just wasn’t feeling up to birding and I thought hard about not going. Most of the time I end up doing it and I have to say I can think of very few, if any, times where I went and regretted it. I may not get any photos that I like but I almost always enjoy the experience. I guess that’s why I am still doing it. Thank you for reminding me.
Awesome video Duade. I feel your excitement and love how it shows. Feel exactly the same when you are out and everything is amazing. Absolutely beautiful images.

Finally got around to watching this and I was not disappointed! What an amazing morning! I love your enthusiasm, as I am sure I have said before. And your images are gorgeous. What cute little birds - we don't see those in the UK as far as I know! Would love to see more like this!

What an awesome session you had Duade. It's funny how the times you don't feel like going and you force yourself to head out are the sessions where you get your best photos.
Thanks Michael, totally agree, the more times you get out the better your chances. Cheers, Duade
Excellent show, Duade. Thank you.
thanks so much for this lovely video. the shots are so fabulous as ever love the reelection shot at 7:07 the most. and yes Olympus gear is so much fun to bird with. thanks again.
I appreciate that you display the RAW file. It helps give some perspective on what to look for when actually shooting.
Ripper video Duade. The images of the Red Kneed Dotterels were simply amazing. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Thanks mate, it was a wonderful morning that is for sure, Cheers, Duade
The red-kneed dotterel was the coolest i think. The reflections from the water was really cool. Awesome video have a good day.
Yay! Another great video! The dotterel shots in that golden light! Wow! Almost worth getting in that mud. You might consider some inexpensive chest waders that fishermen use. At least they’ll keep the water out of your pants and you can just hose off when you get home. Congratulations on those dotterel shots!
Thanks Mark, yes, waders may well be a worthwhile investment, I had some cheap ones but they kept getting holes in them. Cheers, Duade
Simply fantastic 👍👍👍
Enjoyed the video! Beautiful photos and video of birds and scenery. Thanks!
Ever since watching a ton of your instructional videos and lens reviews I have been able to grab some fantastic photos of birds. Thank you Duade. 🙂
It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve been out early on a Saturday or Sunday. Your intros always motivate me to get out again.
Duade
I enjoyed your videos before you bought your OM1 but as a long time Olympus user and an OM1 owner for over a year, this video brought a big smile to my face.

What a great morning, loved the Dotteril shot. Good to know how the OM performed, did well.
What a great video and what great light you got, better than staying in bed, keep up the great work.
Don't you just love it when you overcome that lazy voice inside you. You get up a make the effort to get good light -- and it's a total success! You got some absolutely stunning images on this shoot! Congrats, and thanks for sharing.
Fantastic pictures Duade! Love the one @ 7:02
You just proved that a camera is just a tool and it's about the photographer...
M43 is an amazing system with the advantage of being so versatile, small and lightweight. Both Olympus and Panasonic have great bodies and glass. Olympus lenses (specially Pro glass) are stellar!
Amazing landscape and wildlife you have there! Lucky you! 😁
Cheers from Portugal.
While relying on camera tracking and metering to do all the work.
Thanks for sharing beautiful nature and awesome pictures.
what a beautiful sunrise! ❤
John Clark
Thanks John, yes, it is, and very true, just about any camera system can take beautiful photos. Cheers, Duade
Beautiful shots, birds, and video. Thank you for sharing.
Well done !
Beautiful part of the world, my Dad lived near Roanoke for many years. The blue ridge mountains were beautiful.
Thanks Dan, sounds like a great trip, hard to beat getting out with your camera and enjoying yourself. Cheers, Duade
Really nice video and a super beautiful area you are in here!
Brilliant work Duade. The Dotterels were my favourites.
Thanks George, I appreciate the feedback, I'm happy to get dirty for you to enjoy :-) Cheers, Duade
Inspiring photos-the lighting was so sweet. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Some really beautiful captures here Duade, I love that you are exploring all the camera types, it adds another dimension to the channel!
Awesome Duade. My favorite photos are the backlight ones at the begining of the video.
Thanks Tomaz, yes, I was happy with those also, Cheers, Duade
Gr8 video birds 🐦 are so sharp
I love how people gripe about the low light performance of this lens, and there you are at dawn, shooting away.
Fantastic Duade, this kit has been my go to for over 12 months. Your skills are next level, I enjoyed the video and explanations immensely. Pity I did not watch this yesterday may have been out of bed earlier today.
I wish we had sunrises like that, its still grey and rainy here, great location and some brilliant shots and a brilliant presentation 😁
Thanks Gale, we have had a run of beautiful mornings that is for sure. Cheers, Duade
I'm from Brazil, I love your videos. Congratulations. I'm thinking of going to olympus now.
I love the manner in which you display the raw file including a black crop outline right after the processed version. That's often the missing information I'd like to know when viewing others' images online.
The genuine emotion on display in those opening moments surrounded by that quite amazing view dragged me into the scene, and for a brief moment, I was there. Sub earned. Well done.
great footage as always. A pleasure to watch.
YES! NEW VIDEO! Thanks Duade!
My pleasure, Cheers, Duade
The images are gorgeous!! Thank you
Love to see more videos on the om1
Such a great day. Great light, great subject and a good camera. Kudos to your giving something like the OM1😊 a shot.
one of my favorite episodes ! thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks Marisa, I really appreciate the support, Cheers, Duade
I was out the other day by the river and after 45 mins I was thinking of moving on but an Australian voice came into my head and said "give it another 15 mins mate" . I did and I got some superb shots of a bird I wasn't expecting to see. I have also started to lie down next to the lake in my local park. I don't care what people think as they walk by, as it makes even the most mundane waterfowl look so much better. Thanks again for the inspiration
Awesome Pictures Duade, very nice to see you are having so much fun no matter what gear you use and amazing results as always. Have a great day! Marco.
Thanks Marco, it sure was a lot of fun, you have a great day also, Cheers, Duade
Thanks, yes, a wonderful light kit for sure, yes, the serenity was incredible, I try not to think about the shooting, makes me to upset. Cheers, Duade
Wow, what a morning!
Thanks Rod, I concur, still doesn't make it easy at times :-) Thanks for the comment, Cheers, Duade
Awesome video Duade. I feel your excitement and love how it shows. Feel exactly the same when you are out and everything is amazing. Absolutely beautiful images.
What an amazing session that must have been! Thanks a lot for sharing this with us :D
Thank you very much for video! Love watch this kind of Joy:).
Thank you, it is my pleasure, Cheers, Duade
Great to see having such a fabulous morning just enjoying the photography, the OM 1 is a great camera and your biggest problem will be picking the keepers , it’s great for BIF , it’s addictive
Thanks Colin, I am finding that out for sure, Cheers ,Duade :-)
this video is pure magic... I came just by coincidence, I am planning to move from Nikon D7500 to this OM1 Mk II, this video is really helpfull and really nice edited, congrats!
Finally got around to watching this and I was not disappointed! What an amazing morning! I love your enthusiasm, as I am sure I have said before. And your images are gorgeous. What cute little birds - we don't see those in the UK as far as I know! Would love to see more like this!
Very nice! Thanks for this.
Stunning video. Keep up your great work!
Hi Duade, another great video! Thank you for sharing the fieldcraft as well as the amazing photos. I have been a fan for a couple of years now, and having watched that one episode about the events prior to starting photography and the channel, I am seeing life differently and am more mindful of appreciating the moments we have. And so while I was thrilled to see a title about an outing with a camera I own and a lens I’ve been eyeing, I also understood the feeling when you got to the site this morning and had your first look around. Thanks for sharing that too 👍
Thanks, yes, that moment was special, and I try to appreciate those as you simply don't know when your last one will be. Thanks for supporting the channel, Cheers, Duade
