Ah thank you! I love all things about photography so it’s an awesome system to shoot with for my line of work. There’s definitely some other amazing photographers out there shooting with the system in other genres. I guess they just don’t share online 😁
agreed. there's so many small primes in m43 that work great for street photography. from a marketing standpoint, they need some gen z/younger millennial people to rep the gear on RUclips so it looks at least as cool as other brands and builds hype. I just don't want om and m43 to die off.
@@danprocaccio Agreed! They are targeting my generation x with the majority of the cash thinking we all like bird photography. They definitely need to get some of the younger generations who are interested in street photography, portraits, etc.
Also agreeing like others. I’m a food photographer and event and this is probably the most helpful, not only for om1 but m43 for sure. Amazing shots and helpful video. Thank you! Instant subscribe and added to my fav video
Blown away by the quality of your work. Incredible. Even the em1 ii underwater stuff was insane. Makes me have no doubt about the system and what its capable of.
Two notes -- Wow the photos with the 17 1.2 are really standout, and the 8-25 f4 does much better in low light than I would have expected! So refreshing to watch a video like this with quality imagery and not just someone spitting out facts and figures. It really shows what is possible with the equipment.
@@RamblinView thanks mate! Yeah I use that lens the most of any prime! The 8-25mm is slow but with NR in Lightroom it’s less of a problem. Check out the album I just posted on my production company page from The Overland Track shoot I did for World Expeditions with that lens over 6 days. Had to use NR and it came up a treat! Your video reveals more about the current OM System than any other I have seen. Forget being an ambassador - instead you need to be head of advertising for OM System (seriously)
Ha, thank you for the kind words! Every camera system has their strengths and weaknesses, but like any tool, if you practice enough, you can learn to harness the tool across multiple applications. Most brands choose to market their products as Do-it-all systems, while OM have cleverly chosen to focus on what the system is great at, and that's the outdoors and nature :)
I really should be in bed but I cant stop watching. You are a true artist.. I can't find any other word for it. The way you see light, compose the shot.. its mind-boggling. You are such an absolute inspiration. I lost the passion for photography the last couple of years but now something sparked in me. Thank you so very much for taking your time making theese videos. I absolutely love them. Wish you all the best and a happy new year. 🎉
To anyone wondering about OM-System/Olympus/M43 systems, THIS is the video you need to watch. I had to watch this several times over to be able to formulate adequate words expressing my gratitude towards this video. This is, without any doubt, a fantastic review. Not just of a lens, not just a camera- of a system, a way of photographing. I thank you, so, so much. Finally someone showing other things then "let's see how the camera focuses on this bird and this brick wall". I am genuinely in *awe* of the results you're showing. You do fantastic work- if I am ever half as skilled as you one day, I will count myself blessed. Thank you again and all the best from Norway. :)
Thanks so much for the kind words! All modern cameras are capable of incredible shots. You just need to work out the strengths and play to them. M4/3 cameras have so many strengths, I just choose to use those and push what i can out of it :)
It’s really inspiring to see professional work with Olympus gear… nature, birds, landscape are OK, but Olympus users need more niches (commercial, professional) to show how versatile is as a system. Thanks for show your work, it’s amazing.
I may just be a hobby photographer, this video really explains all of the reasons I used to buy an OM-1, instead of switching to Sony, or another full frame camera. I have back and neck problems, compressed discs, so it just makes sense. I can carry my small compact amazing camera in so many places that allows me to take some incredible photos.
Size and weight really do matter and that’s something people often overlooked by people buying into systems. The marketing heads of bigger cameras only push raw specs. A system should work with you, not against you 😁
Incredible seeing the variety of shots you have done with M43 and the quality of your photos. This gives me a lot of confidence using M43, even though I still have to learn to get your eye on capturing amazing scenes. Kudos.
Thank you for this !! Was looking for pictures , stories , experiences with the Oly system , the 17mm , the om1 ( though mk 2 ) and this video has convinced me on the system !!
I think a night light show is like theater - bright highlights in lots of colors, probably changing rapidly, and very dark backgrounds. For theater, once I control highlights sufficiently to avoid blowing them out, I let the deepest shadows fall to black, and everything in between should be OK. Sometimes, I will bring up some of the medium shadows, but with a light touch. I shoot with three Olympus bodies that pre-date the OM-1.
Great to see you back here on RUclips. You're one of the few here who really use the OM System to its potential. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!
Thanks mate! It’s hard to find any time to dedicate a week creating videos like these. But I really do enjoy it so hopefully more to come! I figure, if a camera can take an amazing photo of a bird it can also take an amazing shot of a person or marine animal 👌👌
So I’m 11 months behind on this video but I did subscribe today. This video is awesome! I have a Lumix G9ii and S5ii. I bought the S5ii but I’m not sure that I would have had the G9ii been released. I bought a bunch of the lumix primes and I am absolutely in love with micro four thirds. I may try the OM-1 next. Thanks again for this high quality content
Thanks so much Matt for the video. You are very inspiring! I would like to see more of your videos! I’m from Belarus, we don’t have such beautiful views and nature as in Australia to film something similar to what you’re doing. I have an Olympus EM5 m2 + 17mm 1.2, 45mm 1.2 and 7-14mm 2.8 and your videos prove that it makes no difference which system you work on, the main thing is the ability to use them. Continue to delight us with your work. Thank you!
Hi mate, thank you for the kind words. Ahh that is awesome. I have always wanted to get to your country! All beautiful in their own right. I guess you become complacent when it's your own country! All you need is some nice light, good characters and story, and you are set :) You've got a great lens set up there. All you need really! Maybe the 12-100mm and there is nothing you can't shoot. Keep on shooting and enjoying the experience!
Thank you for going beyond the TYPICAL SUPERFICIAL CAMERA REVIEWS you demonstrated, explained, and proven examples over and over again Ace work!!! You also did smart pro/con explanations without being a crybaby fanboy clown You earned a new follower!!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I feel a lot of reviewers tell people about the equipment by just listing the specs. But it's far more beneficial to see what the camera can produce because that is objective rather than someones opinion. Thanks for the continued support. I hope I can continue to find time to make vids!
Thanks so much for the love! I just love how the camera system gives me so much confidence to shoot whatever I want. Most of the time limitations are in the photographer haha
Thank you for this professional and transparent video about your work with the Olympus OM-1 and the listed equipment. As a Micro Four Thirds photographer, this helps me a lot, and it's great to see that I'm not the only one who appreciates the advantages of Olympus. Thank you.
Hey mate thanks so much for the love. I'm glad you found it inspiring. It's a shame people think of this system, or any for that matter as a limitation. They really just need to learn their craft a bit better!
@@etchd_ You're absolutely right about that. I happened to come across MFT with Olympus without really considering the advantages or disadvantages. I've always liked the quality of Zuiko lenses. The portability of the lenses was actually a key factor in my decision to join the system. During a photoshoot at a drag racing event, someone next to me had a 1DX with a 200mm lens. I had my 300mm with me and thought to myself that I wouldn't want to carry that heavy equipment around all day. The colors from the Olympus sensors are fantastic. I really like the look of MFT. While many people shoot with full-frame cameras, with my Olympus I always get a different look.
Hi mate! thanks so much. Have you checked out my wedding photography video? It's not really about the OM-1 but same principals apply . I pretty much use Continuous AF with eye AF always turned on. That's for scenes with people. For details and stationary i just reduce the focus point to a single and still use C-AF, although i prob should use S-af ha.
Sir, I am a big fan of your work. I will second the comments of many people here. OM Systems needs to feature you more and the varied genres you work in to highlight the versatility of system. Not every one of their consumers are bird/nature photographers. I am curious. I am looking to do some urban evening video work shooting with the OM-1 combined with the M.Zuiko 17mm/1.8. Are there any cameras settings that you’d recommend? Thanks and regards Eric Charles Jones
Hi Eric, thanks so much for the kind words! It's a tricky one there as OM are deliberatly looking to hone in on their niche rather than compete with the other brands who are markeing that they do it all. There is just not enough users out there i think to warrant pushing the other genres. Who knows for the future though! In regards to video, I just leave it at h.265 (so you get 10-bit) and as I'm in Australia I shoot all audio and non slow mo clips at 25p and all slo-mo at 50p. Shutter 180degree. The low light face tracking AF is good, but haven't really tested it at night so I can't comment on that. I use manual focus quite a lot for video. Hope that helps. Matt.
Awesome overview - I liked some of the context of how you got various shots plus the balanced in field feedback of what one can expect to do with the OM-1 or m43 in general.
Appreciate the feedback! I actually had quite a bit more in there about things I found difficult but also how the features really helped me get certain shots. Unfortunately, the video just got too long ha
Always inspiring to see your work and all of the scenarios and demands that you put the camera through. I often come back to watch your videos and shots more than once as there is just so much great content. Thanks for taking the time to share it.
You are a talented photo/videographer that showcases what the system can do like few others have. There's no blaming this system for bad result. Also refreshing to see something other than birds photography 😊
Love all of your videos man but I have watched them all and now I have no more to watch 😢 Can you make some more please when you get time 🙏🏻 😂 Also if you can make a video on your camera setting, preferably your video settings. Cheers 👍🏻 also some more bts
@@Whatsamacallit thanks mate! Glad you enjoy the content. Man finding time to make anything these days is incredibly difficult. With work and then kids it doesn’t leave much ha. H e video settings one is something lots of people ask for so many I’ll do that !
Haha thank you so much for the kind words! Photography and videography is so much fun, I just love shooting it all. I think in the long run it helps you become a better photographer because the skills you learn in one genre, give you an edge in another! Thanks for stopping by :)
Your initial video about the OM-1 made me purchase it back in the day. This long term experience video is also well received. I hike with my dogs everyday in the mountain site where I live and get lots of very good pictures even in snow and rain. Was kinda waiting for an update from you. Thanks Peter
Hi Peter! Ahh that is awesome to hear. I hope that the camera lived up to your expectations? It certainly has helped me shoot all these fun projects. My list of videos to film is enormous, I just haven't had any time (or sleep) ha!
I’m enjoying your real world review, I’m not sure this camera is for me but I really appreciate the effort and dedication to presenting the information
Hey mate, thanks so much for stopping by! It's definitely not the camera for everyone, especially when a lot of the features and speed is simply not necessary for non-professionals, or those in a different genre of work. It was actually quite painstaking creating this, going through and adding all the metadata haha!
This was the very best video I've seen on this camera and the whole mft system in general! Thanks so much for showing us the real world use in so many different settings. I was especially fascinated by the Vivid Sidney part, as the low light capability is my major concern of further investing into my Olympus system. You use all the fast pro lenses for this, which obviously do a great job. But I am wondering, as they are both expensive and heavy: Do you think there is still the size and price benefit of mft compared to full frame when using these setups? I would be very glad if you @etchd or someone else could clarify this for me. Thank you ☺️
Great video Matt! Really enjoyed you talking through the different projects and love the look of the resulting shots. Unfortunately my 7-14 lens died after 4 hard years of use, so have just moved to the 8-25 and enjoyed your review of this lens also! 😉👍
Hi mate! sorry for the late reply. Glad you enjoyed the video! ahh Damn, shame the lens died! I have broken a few of them ha. I find myself using the 8-15 a lot more now because of the weight!
Phenomenal shots. I think the camera met its match. It's the person behind the camera that counts, and you surely have skills and make this camera shine. Great work!
Ahh i appreciate the love my friend. Every new job or shoot i go on, i like to try something new. I'm just glad this camera system can help me achieve this!
Haha, just get out and practice as much as you can! I suggest second or third shooting for wedding photographers. You learn all the skills you need to know right there. Even if you don't want to be a wedding photographer :)@@tobias6875
Only part way through this video but I am loving it - so comprehensive with fabulous images. Love to see how you are combining primes with zooms as I am considering selling a lot of my primes after buying the 12-40 f2.8 pro II but very much undecided. What a camera the OM1 is. I currently have the Pana G9 and Oly EM5iii but in a couple of years I'd love to own the OM1, cant believe it surpasses the EVF quality of the G9. Future request : I do wish it was possible to bracket the exposure and for the camera to create a combined IN CAMERA RAW or even jpeg rather than having to post process.
I appreciate the kind words and for sticking with the whole vid! Yes, I try and use each lens to it's strengths. I know not everyone has that luxury, but it has been a lifesaver for me. That bracketing to a RAW would be awesome. Same with focus stacking :)
Fantastic video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make it. I'm looking at getting a zoom lens for my Olympus system and seeing what you can do with the 12-100mm f4 and the 40-150mm f2.8 was inspiring.
"Thank you very much for the wonderful insight into your work. What you're showing there is truly impressive. Congratulations. - I'll have a lot to do now, because I'll now will watch your other videos. - Since I shoot with the OM1 myself, I wonder how you achieve that stunningly beautiful look of the colors."
Thank you Roalnd. I appreciate the kind words. I think now that I have used the system so much, I just know what i can pull out in post. It's all about lots of little adjustments that make up a big change in the end result :)
@@etchd_ You got me wrong. I dread OMs future because it very well could die soon. I love Olympus gear and feel like none of the other systems can replace it.
@@etchd_ Thanks for the video's too, must be a lot of work making them.My panning shots are a lot better with the om1,with my em1 mk2 its a lot harder.Do you have some tips for panning shots?Thx
Great video. Maybe consider a video on the om-1 for landscape. I feel everyone thinks it's just for wildlife, but your Antarctica photos show it's chops in the landscape genre. Everyone seems to think it has to be full frame but not based on your photos. Nice work.
Hi mate, thanks for stopping by. The OM-1 is definitely an amazing camera for landscapes. Especially considering you get a narrower depth of field straight off the bat and can utilise longer lenses in your arsenal much easier. It's all about marketing really and how much you are already invested in a system that really makes it difficult for people to change systems. I totally understand that dilemma.
Absolutely love this, this is such a class video. Would love for you to one day share your story as to how you got to where you are now within the industry, would make for such a great video.
Hi mate. Thanks so much for the kind words.l! I’ll put it on the list haha. I’ve done quite a few interviews actually where I mentioned how it all began. Lots of sacrifice of a social life and time with family!
Hi Matt your video is really amazing~ I just get a om 20mm f1.4, really love it, just want to know how you decide to use between 17mm pro and 20mm pro since their focal length are quite similar. Thanks 🙏
Hi there. Thanks so much for the kind words! Ahh that is a tricky one ha. I actually only use the 20mm when I want to take a single camera around and do small shoots. Otherwise, I always take the three 1.2 primes with me and use the 17mm. I like having something that is also a little wider, knowing I have other options that are narrower. I know that isn't likely a luxury you have, so the 20mm would be more than enough! Honestly, I love that 20mm and use it a hell of a lot! It's great for weddings :)
I had the OM-1 upon launch, used it for 6 months all over Snowdonia, the Coasts in Cornwall, Devon for jobs, but when it came to my concert and event stuff it was a bit of a fail, so sold it on and went back to FF. But now I'm thinking of giving it another try, I miss the stealth and weight of the system.
Hi Steven, thanks for stopping by. Ahh concerts are usually pretty dark right. I haven't shot a lot of that type of work, but agree a FF would definitely be a safer option and more suited for that job. Every camera serves a purpose. It's just a shame we all can't afford to have one of each ha!
Fantastic to see all this. Thanks so much. I have the OM-1 (& E-M1 II etc) but suffice with the 100-400 f5-6.3 lens (could not justify buying the 150-400 f4.5 lens) & also the three f2.8 Pro zooms (& TC's).
Thanks mate! I appreciate the support. the 100-400 is something I haven't had a chance to play with but I wouldn't hesitate on using it for my commercial work when the 150-400 isn't available. Especially when the light is good, it's a no brainer.
Thanks@@etchd_ It is quite good for what it is, but yes, it does need good light with the resulting apertures (& Topaz to clean up the noise & detail in lower light when needed. ;) )
Nice work Matt. Inspirational as always. Your last comment struck a chord - know your camera! I recently 'upgraded' to an EM1 Mkii and whilst I've got some good shots, I still fumble around some of the settings and haven't got to grips with many finer features. Do you have a favourite EM1 youtuber for simple/practical advice on the camera?
Thanks James! Great to hear from you! You've got a great camera there, and one that you can definitely grow into. I've taken some of my favorite shots with that little beast! I'm not sure who would be the best person to follow in regards to that type of stuff. I'm sure there is someone out there, it's just i never watched anything when I was using that camera more. I'm actually looking at opening up some spots for 1 on 1 Zoom workshops where I can work with photographers such as yourself, and help them get to know their camera and provide practical information and activities to help them learn more. If this is something you might be interested in, shoot me an email at etchdphotography@outlook.com . I've helped quite a few Olympus users to gain an understanding of their camera based on their particular needs. Cheers!
great feedback video, thank you for that. Can you make a video how you processed that real estate braketed images? Have you concidered using HDR feature instead of braketing? how different these final pics would be in post processing BKT vs HDR ?
Thanks for the love! The HDR feature in the camera mean? I still don't like how the image is processed in-camera using that feature. I'd prefer to have more control over everything by doing it in Lightroom! I'm unsure of how much difference there would be, but you probably have more latitude to push and pull by bracketing. Plus, I often end up looking at one of the bracketed images and find the exposure is spot on so i won't need to do anything extra :)
Great job! Just found your channel and subscribe :) I recently switched from Sony to Olympus (OM System ) My main reason was the color. And your colors looks very good specially on the shooting of Somnium ! Its filmic looks pleased my eyes) Is it you did postproduction of those photos ?
Thanks for the support! Colour is one of those funny things that people can often get hung up on. If you are shooting jpg, then yes, it is definitely something to consider, but when you are shooting raw, then really any colour is possible in post production! Glad you like the Somnium shots. They are definitely all edited. You cant get that look without some decent colour grading :)
I’m looking to upgrade an old EM10 mk1 which has been great for what I needed ( smaller, lighter, less cumbersome compared to my Canon DSLR) so I’m considering the OM-1 mk1 and the 12-40 2.8 pro lens, (to start) mainly because I don’t want a massive camera to lug around on trips out, and because I already have a few lenses. The weather sealing is an obvious interest because I will be using it in a wide range of circumstances (street, travel, wildlife, beach, astrophotography ) in a more tropical environment. I’m not a professional, but I do need a good all rounder, that I can use if I do have to do product shots, photoshoots for fashion (I’m a graphic designer who does t-shirt graphics) This is a great video, and just what I was looking for to assure me that sticking with the M4/3 system is still a good choice.
Great to hear! you seem to be shooting a wide variety of subjects. Well done. This is the system for you if working in harsh environments. The 12-40mm is great. I would definitely recommend the Mark II though, so you ge the fluorine coating !
Thanks for the exhaustive review. I am impressed by what you have been able to accomplish with this gear. I bought an OM-1 and sold it a couple months later. I regret that decision. Obviously, I didn't give it enough time. I am thinking about buying the new OM-1 mark ii. This video was extremely helpful in helping me understand the capabilities of this system. I am curious how/what software you use to process your work. Thanks!
The fact you're using OM1 for commercial work is hella inspiring! I'm still struggling to make my photos look clean and tasty. May I ask you which software you use for image processing? If you use Lightroom classic - which profile? Whenever I open my RAW files in LR Classic the colors seem very off and muted even. I tried camera profile but it makes skin around nose red which is very wrong, too. Thanks in advance! I wish the were more pros who could showcase OM1 outside birds and macro
Hi mate! thanks for the love. I'm glad my work is giving you some inspiration! I only use Lightroom Classic. The colours should look muted and low contrast if you are shooting RAW? As that is the whole idea of RAW, to do post-production on the shots. I don't change any profiles, just leave it to automatically detect what the camera and lens is then I go about grading the shots or using presets i've made. What camera are you using? Are you shooting RAW? What version of Lightroom?
I was eager to order an OM-1 plus two lenses from their online shop but changed my mind since after 4 days I still haven't received a reply to a simple question I sent to customer support regarding their current promotion. If this is how pre-sales customer support is how would post-sales support be? I don't want to find out and stick to my canon.
Great video and good arguments of "defending" m4/3 system in this case Omsystem and Zuiko lenses 👍👍👍. And of course very good shots in this video. I'm jealous 😅🥰. Having Om5 and few zuiko lenses in my case lightweight and portability is important issue as an amateur. oh by the way I bought last year the small ultra wide Leica summilux 9mm F1.7, tiny and yet powerful and great results. Check it out! ✔️
Hi Mate, oh yep. I've been using the AOI housing which is a good value option. It's vacuum sealed with warning alarms and has an 8 inch glass dome. It's plasticky, but does the job and is compact. Myself and a few of the other ambassadors have been using it on various jobs!
Question I sold my OM-1 for a Nikon Z63. And I don’t do videos, at all. But I was afraid that I was missing out on image quality. 20mpx vs 24mpx. And noise and lighting and Dynamic Range…. In the real world, by comparison, is there a difference in image quality? If not, then I’d probably just swap back to Olympus. I miss the in camera stacking, I miss the in-camera ND filters. And I’ve only printed up to a 28x36, and the image looks good (from my OM-1) I haven’t printed anything from my Nikon yet. What are your thoughts to this? I shoot lots of landscape, some wildlife (birds and stills), macros, and some Astro. I don’t do a lot of cropping in, but I do pixel peep. So, if I’m talking about a big difference vs slightly a little, then I’ll probably go back. Just looking for a professional opinion here. Thank you, Brian
Hi, man. I have EM-10 IIIs with 25/45 primes and it produces images with better IQ than i can compare to anything M43-ish found online. However, IQ not even close to my D780. M43 images look flat and dull, lacking on clarity and microcontrast, very noisy, D780 files are much more tweakable in PP. M43 is okay hiking camera when opportunity is unknown and any M43 image beats no image, but FF is a camera of choice, when you know your target.
If you use Adobe Premier to edit video its probably a good thing you accidently filmed in H.264. I am in the process of working with Adobe in fixing an issue where OM-1 H.265 files do not load/work with Premier at the moment. An ETA for fix/resolution is still pending. -- Excellent video showcasing your gear and your work.
Hi mate! ahh the good old Premiere issues haha. Na I use Resolve. Got rid of Premiere years ago. Too bugyy, slow and non intuitive. Resolve is just way to powerful, fast and easy and farrrr cheaper!
hi. for first, thank you for the great video! alot of great photos. dose 20mp is still ok for most of the costumers? looking to see how it compared to panasonic g9m2. i saw also bad reviews on the om1. Robin sad that te autofocus in not so good. i also have and love the 12-100 and love it. i think that they must also have higher res sensor
Cheers mate! never had an issue with 20MP. The majority of content is consumed on a tiny phone where 2mp images look great. Are you printing something that is like A0? if not, then I really dont see why you'd need more MP? I can't comment on what Robin has found. I haven't found any of those issues and you can see the variety of work I use the camera for. Remember, one person's review doesn't mean much until you test things out yourself in the style of shooting you personally do.
@@etchd_ i dont print more than A2. Didn't have and issues with that. It would be nice to have more mp and it will be more options to crop. Jimmy Chang talked about it higher resolutions and bought G9m2
Thank you so much for sharing. Best video about m4/3 I have seen in a long time. I use an OM-D EM-1 II paired with a 12-100mm. I really love my kit. Small, light and easy to carry. I do have a question since you also use a trusty OM-D EM-1 II. Would you say there is enough difference between the OM-1 and EM-1 II sensor to upgrade? I sometimes find there is a limit with low light capabilities of my EM-1 II.
Hi mate! glad you enjoyed the vid! You have the perfect camera lens combo for travel, that's for sure! I only use the E-M1 Mark II when I shot the underwater content. But now I have a housing for the OM-1 so won't be needing it. That being said, I would 100% be happy with the image quality of that sensor for most of the work that I do. With the OM-1 you get the speed and insane AF + computational features that you don't get on the E-M1 Mark II. Image quality wise though, most people probably wouldnt notice the difference. What you really need for low light is the 1.2 primes! the 12-100mm just isn't suited to dark settings :)
I would like to ask, when you use OM-1 to install the stabilizer, what if it triggers recording? It seems that only the original wireless remote control can record illegally. Do you have a better method?
@@jackygoodlife Ahh right. Unfortunately, you can't. You have to trigger via the camera. Not a deal breaker, but can be annoying in spur of the moment shooting!
You should be on OMDS YT channel. Dont understand why they prioritize their local reps as key personas... They targetted birds too much, IMO. At least they changed that to Nature recently. Since the G9ii release I am sad that OMDS didnt reacted with major FW update for the OM-1. The camera would deserve improvements in video, AF, UI & customization. I am not talking about new things. Just improve what is there.
Thanks for the love! I'd love to be on there channel haha. You might have to let them know ;) . The new brand direction and message is a super good one, and all these things take time. Hopefully, there is some new firmware on the way!
Hi mate, I'm not sure what you mean by how much post I did? That is an extremely broad question. Do you mean, did I shoot RAW and then process the images? if so, then yes, of course. I don't think there is a professional photographer out there who doesn't shoot RAW and edit their images. After all, that's what shooting RAW is for. As an OM SYSTEM Ambassador, I'm fortunate in that I can utilise their gear for free. That is one of the perks of being any form of ambassador/creative/athlete. I'm not sure it really matters anyway though as It doesn't matter if I paid for the gear or not, i could still take the same shots :) Thanks for stopping by!
@etchdphotography If you are critical of this gear you might not get the use of free gear. You know that. My credibility is not for sale. I've had the OM-1 for more than a year. I do not recommend it.
Hi David. Thanks for the question. Which focus issue are you talking about? Is this the one that Robin and a few others were talking about on forums? IF so, I didn't actually watch them, mainly because I've never had an issue with the units I've used. As you can see, I've shot in quite a variety of different use cases and always use AF. If there was ever an issue I would 100% be getting in touch with the powers that be to get it amended as it would affect my work!
@@davidleong899 ahh yeah l thought that might be it. I can’t comment on what others have encountered. But I definitely haven’t had any issues, at least with the units I have and almost all pro lenses. I might be also operating the camera differently to others 🤷♂️
I've had the OM-1 for about 18 months but for the last 10 months or so it's been unused, while my reliable EM1.2 gets the call when using m43. I find the OM-1 to have some interesting parlor tricks that may help your photography (depending on your skill level) but they do nothing to help my work. The ergonomics are poor . I'd expect a so-called adventure camera to be able to be used while wearing gloves. Not this one (if you want to use the front dial. Skip it. (I'm not an ambassador thus not influenced by any agreements with manufacturers to keep the perks flowing.)
It sounds like you have already made your mind up about the camera and it's apparent short comings for your particular use. Why do you still have it? Seems like a waste of money to have it just sit there and not be used. If using the camera with gloves is such a high priority for you, why did you buy it without testing this out yourself? I mean, would you buy a pair of trail running shoes based on someone's review/opinion that they fit their feet perfectly and are super comfortable? No, you'd go to a shop and try them on, using the socks you would use for trail running. While I am an ambassador for OM SYSTEM, it means sweet nothing in how i use the camera and for what purposes. Hence why I film my commercial video work with other brands that suit the job better. Yes, I have access to the equipment which helps in most cases, but in the end if you dedicate the time and effort to learn a camera and how it works, you will get awesome photos regardless. There is no one size fits all camera in regards to features or ergonomics. It's up to you to make the right choice, and it sounds like you haven't!
@@etchd_ The mistake I made was buying the OM-1 when it first came out and there was a waiting list. I should have returned it. I won't make that mistake again, nor will I buy OMD gear again. I cannot in good conscience sell my OM-1 given its repair history and how it fails to be reliable. I have ethics. You seem very defensive when it comes to honest criticism. Are you afraid the truth might affect your access to free gear? I have no affiliation with any camera company. It's important for prospective consumers to have honest information from people who don't have a relationship with camera companies (i.e. ambassadors).
I appreciate your support! The system has been pivotal to where I am today and will continue to be in the future. Unless the next wave of AI just takes over ha!
OMS needs more ambassadors like you that's just not about bird photography.
@@GeoffSimpsonCreative cut half the 7 million bird photography ambassadors and branch out some.
@@jf9979 appreciate the support! The system is super powerful! Like most systems these days, if you perfect your craft the opportunities are endless 🤘

Lovely work & OM-1 showcase. Well done!
Thank you my friend! I love shooting all types of content and I'm glad that some of the other genres resonate with you! :)
Kudos.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I hope your photography journey is as fun and successful as mine!
The best Olympus video footage on youtube for sure, also fantastic photo work.
Thanks so much for the love! I just wish I shot it in 10bit haha. Still a great option for adventure filming if you want only one camera !
Thank you for this !! Was looking for pictures , stories , experiences with the Oly system , the 17mm , the om1 ( though mk 2 ) and this video has convinced me on the system !!
Brilliant material!
Thanks legend!
Haha I appreciate the sub! Sounds like you've got a great set of kit! I'm sure you will take awesome shots whatever you use.
I think it's great that you back up your presentation with brilliant pictures.
Ahh thanking you! Yes, there is no way of showing people what can be done unless they see the images themselves!
probably this is one of the best videos about how to be a great photographer/videographer using the right tool for the job.
Thank you! I'm glad you found some inspiration. I love what this system can do and how i just dont worry about the elements when on shoot!
All you need is some nice light, good characters and story, and you are set :)
You've got a great lens set up there. All you need really! Maybe the 12-100mm and there is nothing you can't shoot. Keep on shooting and enjoying the experience!
Great to see you back and so pleased you are using the OM1. Just goes to show what you can do with it. Many congratulations on all your news!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Brilliant camera as is the new Mark II!
Your work is outstanding.
I appreciate the kind words! :)
Thank you for going beyond the TYPICAL SUPERFICIAL CAMERA REVIEWS
you demonstrated, explained, and proven examples over and over again
Ace work!!!
You also did smart pro/con explanations without being a crybaby fanboy clown
You earned a new follower!!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I feel a lot of reviewers tell people about the equipment by just listing the specs. But it's far more beneficial to see what the camera can produce because that is objective rather than someones opinion. Thanks for the continued support. I hope I can continue to find time to make vids!
Agreed
Great work and great video. Proof if you ever needed it that an MFT system can take on FF and win. Love the fact the Nikon Z was the back-up camera.
Thanks so much for the love! I just love how the camera system gives me so much confidence to shoot whatever I want. Most of the time limitations are in the photographer haha
Amazing shots IQ's are perfect. Very few youtubers who use OM system show photos like those. The IQ & color science in this camera look perfect to me.
Appreciate the love mate! These cameras sure are powerful!
Watching this on Panasonic OLED TV, look fantastic! Kudos Matt.
That's what I like to hear :) thanks so much!
Best to edit/stitch in camera or with Olympus proprietary software preferably
hello, congratulations on your work. it would be nice to see a video on how you set up your om1 for weddings. regards, Andrea.
Hi mate! thanks so much.
Completely outstanding, i'm speechless.
Ahh thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the images!
Sir,
I am a big fan of your work.
Thanks and regards
Eric Charles Jones
Matt.
@@etchd_ Thanks I appreciate your feedback.

That OM-1 Mark II looks baller. I hope they can get a good market foothold. They have a sexy camera body.
Thanks Lyndsay! I appreciate the kind words. It's great to know there are people out there who find my work entertaining!
A banger after banger after banger. Mad talent and really great shots!
Haha thanks! No point shooting anything but bangers!
Thanks!
Mate, you are an absolute legend! thank you!
You are a talented photo/videographer that showcases what the system can do like few others have. There's no blaming this system for bad result. Also refreshing to see something other than birds photography 😊
Love all of your videos man but I have watched them all and now I have no more to watch 😢

A most insightful and top notch video Matt many thanks …you have made my mind up to stay with Olympus.
Om1 and in general Olympus has excellent self cleaning sensor tech…no problem handling dust in Namibia so you can swap lenses on the move
Simply awesome. Best photography video I've seen, and I've watch too many...kudos man.
Ahh thank you Chris. That means a lot! I'm glad it resonated with you.

Great review, diverse scenarios and the OM1 and associated lenses are just pure magic.
Thanking you kindly my friend!
Sweet Jesus you’re talented! Fantastic work. Being creative on the fly is a key to how amazing your work is!
Came here from Reddit. This makes me proud to be a m43 users. Keep it up
Ahh thanks so much! Glad i can inspire you to keep creating :)
Hi, I still love your jobs! Pics and videos amazing!
Thanks so much for the love !!

Thank you ☺️
I just got my om1 mark 2 and your video is truly inspiration, giving me confidence to create content . Love all the shoot you took ! Awesome bro
Hi Edwin! thanks so much. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of the camera as I have!
Beautiful works as always man! Glad to hear the gear is still serving you well and more. Cheers.
Thanks for the support! yes, the camera just keeps on giving. Loving it all!
You are the best🎉
Haha thanks so much! I hope you enjoyed it!
Yes did not know what I can do with my gear. You showed me, so the limited factor ist behind the 🎥 😢

A very interesting video full of nice pictures.
What do you use as backpack when walking with the 150/400mm and other lenses?
Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm glad you found inspiration. Those two lenses are workhorses for sure!
That‘s why I dread OMs future. There’s just no perfect alternative at the moment.
Hi mate, thanks for stopping by. I'm a little confused at what you mean? What type of work are you shooting that you require something different?
@@etchd_ You got me wrong. I dread OMs future because it very well could die soon. I love Olympus gear and feel like none of the other systems can replace it.
Wow,so many great shots, loving the automotive stuff. But now i want to buy the 12-100 f4😂
Hi mate! Haha thanks so much. Yes, that lens is by far the most useful of the lot. It never leaves my kit!
I totally understand that dilemma.
congratulations for your videos, a video on the settings of the om1 for weddings would be nice.
Hi mate, thanks so much. Ahh if you watch my wedding video on here you can download my cheat sheet :)
So amazing Matt. Well done! So inspiring!
Thank you my friend. I’m glad it has inspired you!!
@@etchd_ thanks for replying:) I love everything about 17mm pro but the size of 20mm is perfect for EDC with my kids haha
I am trying to decide between the 17mm and 20mm so glad you asked this question!
Cheers!
Thanks matt@@etchd_ Have emailed you.
Motorbikes and photography. My two passions as well. My problem is deciding on which to focus on.
haha i find this issue all the time! I'm about to finish the camera bike build so stay tuned!
great feedback video, thank you for that. Can you make a video how you processed that real estate braketed images? Have you concidered using HDR feature instead of braketing? how different these final pics would be in post processing BKT vs HDR
?
I’m not a professional, but I do need a good all rounder, that I can use if I do have to do product shots, photoshoots for fashion (I’m a graphic designer who does t-shirt graphics)
This is a great video, and just what I was looking for to assure me that sticking with the M4/3 system is still a good choice.
Great to hear! you seem to be shooting a wide variety of subjects. Well done. This is the system for you if working in harsh environments. The 12-40mm is great. I would definitely recommend the Mark II though, so you ge the fluorine coating !
What is the background music at 25:19?
Do you print your work, how large can you print from this system?
I’m thinking of buying into the OM system, I’m looking for a smaller lighter setup.
Amazing
thanks my man!
Love your work. I would’ve never thought m43 could deliver these kinds of results.
I appreciate the support! Yes, the system is super powerful. It's all about learning and perfecting your craft with whatever system you have :)
@@alexanderpieri1971 thanks so much for the love! The OM5 is. Great camera! You can take some ripper shots with it for sure.
Any word on an OM-1 Underwater Housing from OMS? What are you using or planning to use for a housing on the OM-1?
Hi Mate, oh yep. I've been using the AOI housing which is a good value option. It's vacuum sealed with warning alarms and has an 8 inch glass dome. It's plasticky, but does the job and is compact. Myself and a few of the other ambassadors have been using it on various jobs!
Question
I sold my OM-1 for a Nikon Z63.
And I’ve only printed up to a 28x36, and the image looks good (from my OM-1)
I haven’t printed anything from my Nikon yet.
Thank you,
Brian
@@etchd_ DaVinci Resolve - I just learned something new, thank you.
hi. for first, thank you for the great video!
alot of great photos.
dose 20mp is still ok for most of the costumers?
looking to see how it compared to panasonic g9m2.
i saw also bad reviews on the om1.
@@etchd_ Thank so much for your advice!
Kudos man. Rly
Were those landscape photos in the video shot by HHHR or a single shot?
Hi mate, which ones were you talking about?
I would like to ask, when you use OM-1 to install the stabilizer, what if it triggers recording? It seems that only the original wireless remote control can record illegally. Do you have a better method?
Hi mate, sorry, I am a little confused what you mean?
@@etchd_ Okay, if you install OM-1 on DJI Stabilizer, how do you press the record button? Or are you booting via Bluetooth?
@@etchd_ I tried to notify somebody. I hope they will get back to you.
awesome !
How much post did you do and do you buy your gear at retail like the rest of us?
Hi mate,
I'm not sure what you mean by how much post I did? That is an extremely broad question. Do you mean, did I shoot RAW and then process the images? if so, then yes, of course. I don't think there is a professional photographer out there who doesn't shoot RAW and edit their images. After all, that's what shooting RAW is for.
As an OM SYSTEM Ambassador, I'm fortunate in that I can utilise their gear for free. That is one of the perks of being any form of ambassador/creative/athlete. I'm not sure it really matters anyway though as It doesn't matter if I paid for the gear or not, i could still take the same shots :)
Thanks for stopping by!
@etchdphotography
If you are critical of this gear you might not get the use of free gear. You know that.
My credibility is not for sale.
I've had the OM-1 for more than a year. I do not recommend it.
How do you get around the low light low contrast focus issue?
@@etchd_ thanks for the response. Good to know it doesn't effect your daily workflow. I was concerned about the low contrast AF in the Robin vids.
I have the 12-100 which I shoot with the G9. Great lens. Even in lowlight I've taken it to ISO 6400 and still great pics.
@@davidleong899 ahh yeah l thought that might be it. I can’t comment on what others have encountered. But I definitely haven’t had any issues, at least with the units I have and almost all pro lenses. I might be also operating the camera differently to others 🤷♂️
🙌🏻👌🏻🙏🏻☺️
Thanks so much :)

The mistake I made was buying the OM-1 when it first came out and there was a waiting list.

OM / m43 is an amazing powerful system, thank you for sharing your great work
I appreciate your support! The system has been pivotal to where I am today and will continue to be in the future. Unless the next wave of AI just takes over ha!
