    Very good review of the OM1II . I make copies on large paper with qualities that have surprised even printing services with their sharpness and beautiful colors. Let's remember that with optimal quality (60 ppcm = 152 dpi) we can make a copy with 20 million resolution of 86 x 64 cm (with good quality we can go to 206x 154 cm (25 ppcm = 63 dpi). The issue is that there is a a good number of "photographers" who have never seen their photos on paper...

      I think 90 per cent of the current photographers. Ever print anything. They only share on social media. If you use programs with super resolution functions, you can even print bigger. And like I said, if you print that big, you just move back. I remember a concert by u2 in the 90's they had an enormous screen with them (popmart tour). Up close, you saw all these separate lights, and it didn't look like anything. But from further away, the quality was amazing. Thanks for watching and the comment. I appreciate it! Grt guido

      Unfortunately, here in the netherlands, the FF users always look down on the om system. Even at my own photo club, I often hear negative talks. You have to have FF to be serious... all bull if you ask me. Just do what you do with passion. Ivet seen good reviews on the Panasonic! Specialy video wise, they are great. I have never tried one myself, but from what u gear, people always recommend Panasonic for video and om system for stills photograohy. I have to say that I do a lot of b roll film making with the om-1mkii, and I think it handels it great. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it! Grt guido

      @GuidoVanDeWater I get that a lot here in the UK too although I don't really pay attention. It's the same as Ferrari's and Fast "slow" cars. Money can cover a lot of things but it will never buy respect. I think a lot of people with expensive FF cameras think that because they can afford a good camera it makes them a good photographer. Then there's the elitists but really who really cares? I think us M43 users need to stop feeling pressured. I understand the system for what it can and can't do and I'm absolutely cool with that! Personally if I had the money I would own BOTH and the FF would get the least use!
      Yeah that's always been the saying "Olympus for Photo and Panasonic for video" which is true but also not true LOL

      @JoeMaranophotography totally agree with you. I just try to use the pro's of the system to my advantage instead of complaining about the cons. There are no bad cameras anymore these days. Just cameras with different pro's and cons. You won't believe how many times I come across people with gear worth over 10 to 15k that don't even know the basics. A good photographer can take a good image with any camera. But a good camera doesn't give good images. We should all just enjoy and share our experiences then we will all learn from eachother and get better. That is my goal 🙂

    Hi Guido, I just want to correct two things in your video. The depth of field with mft is wider than aps-c or full frame not narrower as mentioned in your video. That is why I chose mft for bird photography. Second, Panasonic Lumix G9 And G9 II also have live composite. And you are right, it makes taking fireworks, light trails, etc a piece of cake. Thanks for the great videos.😊

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад +1

      You are absolutely right here. I meant that it was wider, but somehow, I apparently chose the wrong word. But what I wanted to mention was that because of the longer lenses, you dept of field automatically get narrower, so it doesn't matter as much as people sometimes think. And in landscape, it's even an advantage. I never have to focus stack 😅 I wasn't aware that other brands had already acquired live composit. Thought it was still om system only, but again, you are right here 🙂 thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it. Grt guido

    Your photos are incredible! I agree 100 percent with large prints. I printed a 26×30 in photo from a 16 MP bridge camera and it looks great! And people miss that, more than a high resolution body, lenses that resolve every megapixel available is much more important and MFT is an excellent choice for long shooters that makes cropping less necessary.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад +1

      You're absolutely right! Upgrading the body is also overrated. Like you say, it's much better to invest in good glass. And those pro lenses from the olympus / om system are just amazing. I actually have a photo above my bed from a kudu in Africa. its printed perfextly on canvas 160x90cm and that photo is made with the olympus e3 witch is a 10mp camera.the whole marked went crazy with the race for more mega pixels. And the ones profiting most are those cloud storage company's that are selling all that space for lots of money. Thanks for watching and sharing you comment grt guido

    As I start my journey into Micro 4/3, I'm a little ashamed I believed all the hype about "size matters". I'm using a Olympus EM1 16 megapixel with a 12-40 f2.8, and I'm blown away at the image quality. I would have NO problem printing 3" wide prints. Many years ago, I printed 16x20" portraits from a 1 2/3" 5 megapixel sensor, and they looked great, so why do we need an insane amount of megapixels?? My most favorite images I have ever made have been from a 6 megapixel Canon 10D APS-C sensor.
    I am comparing the images from the Olympus to the images from my Canon 5D Mark IV, and I really don't see the need for full frame after shooting with the Olympus.
    Thanks for posting!

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  24 дня назад +1

      This is exactly it! The full frame brands did not innovate anymore. The only thing they did was put in bigger sensors, which was the markering strategy, and everyone bought it. I have a 160x90cm print above my bed that was captured with an olympus e3 that is a 10mp camera, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. All those large files are only causing problems in editing and storage. Everyone stores in the cloud these days. So data centres are running to store all that stuff. I'm only seeing benefits on the smaller cameras and sensors, so I'm happy that you and more and more people discover the same. Photography is about enjoying yourself and creativity, and that is what people forget sometimes. Thanks for watching and your comment! Grt guido

But there is no shame in owning the 100-400 it is a great lens! I used it for many years. Especialy for landscapes there is not that much benefit for the 150-400 above the 100-400. It starts when there are moving objects and you want to have a bit faster shutter speeds. Then the 150-400 is just a next level lens! Yeah, not many landscape photographers have such big lenses with them on trips. It is almost like a blessing when you can walk around and know that you can photograph everything that you see. The white 150-400 f4.5 pro weights 1.8 kilo, had a built in 1.25 Converter and due to the m43 system a FF equivalent of 1000 mm. Not a single other lens out there that can beat that especialy with that quality. But the 100-400 is already that good with such a great range in such a long lens. The system is almost made for landscapers 😅

    I have both an extensive OM and Sony System. I always take the OM stuff on oversea trips for the flexibility you state. I do wish they could add a more pixels; I do make 24x30" prints at home and they look exceptional to contradict my wish, but one does loose some with horizontal correction crops or keystone correction, or focus stack etc. I do enjoy using the OM due to the size and flexibility.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад

      I can imagine why you prefer the smaller system when travelling. Just wondering how you compare them quality wise. I guess the keystone effect also has to do with software. @@GuidoVanDeWater Sometimes I feel I am missing out on the higher MP count of my Sony system, but with DxO photo lab processing that I use on all my files the real world 24x30 prints I can make on my large format printer are very hard if not impossible to distinguish from each other. Keystone correction is just done in Adobe LR, it works well but you theoretically are throwing away some resolution. This would be where more MP to start with is a benefit. Basically I try to minimize any cropping on my OM files to preserve the maximum resolution. For travel photography one obviously gains flexibility to take a greater range of optics as I use up to the 300Pro on my trips but would rarely take my Sony 600GM by comparison. The gains in depth of field with the M43 format can counteract having to stop down several more stops on the Sony and thus one can have 2 stops less ISO on the OM which is often not talked about but is a big deal.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад

      Totally agree with you. I'm hearing lots of good stuff about dxo, but I've never used it. I've been a Lightroom editor for years and never tried something different. The fun thing is that with the m43 system, you don't have to crop very less than ff cameras. That's something people don't seem to understand. We can indeed finalise the composition way more in the field because of the focal range. I usually only crop when I change the aspect ratio. I actually enjoy that process a lot of trying to get that perfect frame 😅 all in all I think it just doesn't matter as much as people sometimes think. Both systems have pros and con's. But I just love the pro's of the m43 system way more then the con's 😅

    Great images. I own the OM-1 II and so happy with what a m4/3 camera can do. I can crop my bird photos and still have great details. Would not trade my OM-1 II and 150-400mm pro lens to FF camera with fixed tele lens or zoom lens. Get great images along with smaller and lighter gear. Also, way cheaper. Yes, the software these days does amazing job of cleaning up the noise. DXO is my choice. I don't worry about cranking the ISO up to get the shutter speed. I owned Canon in the past and then switched to Olympus and now OM Systems. Never a fanboy and have bashed any brand that I have owned when warranted. Still need to be able to update the firmware from memory card. The way it is done currently is a pain. Should also be able to save camera settings to the memory card. Come on, OM Systems. Can't wait to get the Epson P900 printer next month and get back to printing again. Already have 50+ images waiting to be printed.

    I had a commercial printer tell me that 8megapixels that is in focus and sharp will print at A3 easily. While more pixels is great but the amount of pixels you need is really dictated by the size of the prints you want to make. Is OM1ii primarily a wildlife camera or can it also be a "general purpose" camera? I do landscape, animals, street, travel, grandchildren sports, family events. Is it good for a general purpose amateur family photographer? Or are there better choices?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  Месяц назад +1

      I actually believe that the om-1 or micro four system in general is absolutely a general camera system. Yes, the wildlife abilities are amazing. But I'm primarily a landscape photographer, and it is just briljant. Then, if you look at the size and the amazing quality lenses, then it's perfect for street, sports, and take Allong with ypunon family trips. If you would compare it to a big bulky full frame camera, then this is much more versatile, in my opinion. The om-1 is also packet with features that make everything much easier so if inhad to choose for a general camera then the om-1 is absolutely my choice. And if you look at lenses the 12-100 pro is amazing versatile and for a little less money there is even a 12-200. It doesn't get any more versatile with a small compact system that you can take anywhere. At least that's how I think of it 🙂 thanks for watching and sharing your comment! Where are you from? Hi Guido, mooie review van de OM-1 MK ii. Ik ben de laatste tijd veel reviews aan het kijken en ik moet zeggen, het is een top camera de OM-1 MK ii. Met zon camera wordt fotografie nog veel leuker. Ik zelf heb op dit moment een Nikon Z7 ii met een 24-120mm f4 S lens en zit er steeds meer aan te denken om de hele boel te verkopen en over te stappen naar de OM-1 MK ii. Ik denk dat ik veel meer schik heb in fotograferen dan ik nu met de Nikon heb. Enige wat ik zo jammer vind, is dat je focus stack en high res niet kan combineren in camera, anders had ik allang de switch gemaakt. Al met al, jouw fotos zijn super. Ik vind je een top kerel en top fotograaf met oog voor detail en compositie. Mag ook een keer gezegd worden.

Grt guido

    There’s an A1 print of a sailboat under a blazing sunset hanging in my brother’s living room, shot with an EM1-X about five years ago. I didn’t even de-noise it at the time, and it looks fine. With AI upscaling these days this seems to be less and less of an issue. Sure, more megapixels will get you more detail, but did anyone other than a pixel-peeper ever admire a landscape photograph just because you could make out every individual leaf or blade of grass? Dynamic range strikes me as the best argument for a bigger sensor, but unless you’re doing a lot of shooting in low light it might not be worth the extra weight and expense of full frame gear.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад

      I think the dynamic range is never an issue. We have so many tools to overcome that like high-res, brackets and even the live nd filter on the smallest nd level brings insane dynamic range into the image. Do you prefer any software for upscaling an image? I've tried a few but have never got very satisfying results. By the way noise is a digital thing and is much less / not there when you print an image. But it sounds like a stunning shot taken with a great camera! Still one of the best cameras that I ever bought. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts here. Grt guido

    I bought an OM-1 mkii after my Lumix G9ii had sat in repair for a few months, as I already had a few Olympus lenses and I didn’t want yet another Panasonic camera. Now I have my Lumix back from repair, I find I am taking my OM-1 mkii out more often, as I can’t get over how fantastic it is for outdoor shots, especially where the ND and GND filters are concerned - I am blown away by how good they are. I thought I was going to miss the extra megapixels the G9ii has over the OM-1 mkii, but 20 seems to be plenty. That’s not to say that the G9ii isn’t any good - it is fantatic, too, but it excels in other areas, such as portraiture work and of course everyone goes on about how great it is for video. If OM Systems were to release an update with more pixels and better video, I am sure that theor cameras would fly off the shelves, although I believe that the OM-1 & OM-1 mkii are already selling very well!

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад +3

      I think every brand has his own point to excel in. OM system is more for outdoors photography and Panasonic for video. I don't think the video would improve much with just an upgrade. If it was that simple, they would probably have done it. I think it is something in their hardware that makes them much better with video. I have no idea what it is because IS on the om-1 mkii and other models is great. Who knows, in a future model, we get everything that we have ever dreamt of in one camera 🙂 thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! Grt guido

    I liked your review a lot. However, I would like to know whether one of the new features of the MarkII - the 14-bit RAW images you can get from tripod-hires mode - is an improvement over the 12-bit RAWs produced from the MarkI.
    I use tripod hi-res a lot with my older Olympus E-M1.3 for shooting objects in a museum I volunteer at - for paintings, objects, etc - and have been looking for a good reason to upgrade to the OM-1.1 or OM-1.2 cameras for such a use. However, the OM-1.1 doesn't seem to offer any good reason for this type of tripod hi-res photography. Maybe the 14-bit RAWs from the MarkII?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад +1

      The om 1.1 also has a tripod hi res function, and indeed, it is 12 bit. There is another video about this a few after the one you watched where I discussed the 12 bit issue. Lightroom didn't recognise these files at all, so I didn't use the high-resolution function much. But recently, I discovered that the camera by standard is set to 12 bit high res and that you can manually adjust it to 14bit. Those files are recognised by Lightroom, and the difference is very much noticeable. So I'm only using it for the past few weeks. I'm busy with a new video that shows the wuality difference of all these high-resolution modes. So you might like that, but it will take a few weeks to finish.Thanks for watching and your comment. grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater Yes, I would be very interested to see any video you can come up with that discusses this hi-res topic. There seems to be a lot of info on the Internet about HHHR mode but not much about tripod hi-res; many people don't seem to even realize that there are 2 different hi-res modes, and that they work completely differently. I don't think I've ever seen a discussion comparing the tripod hi-res mode of the Olympus cameras (many models have tripod hi-res) and the OMS cameras (OM-1.1 and .2 and OM-5). I think the OM-5's tripod hi-res is probably exactly like it is in the E-M1.3, since the OM-5 is basically a small E-M1.3. But the OM-1 models with their new sensor are different and any info would be great (especially the 14-bit aspect that is new with the .2). Looking forward to it!! :)

    So, I guess its time for a OM-X camera with the Raw photostacking, the ND and GND combo during highres, and so on. A EM-1X follow upp camera with dubble processors dubble batteries, and double buffer memory (compared to OM-1mk2). Its enough with 20 mp in my opinnion, but for the pixelpipers maybe it should have a new 24 mp stacked sensor. Think of how much better/quicker highres it could take. And think of the combo high res and GND.
    What else do we want OMDS to put in that, ok big and expensive but still, super camera?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  2 месяца назад +1

      If they could combine all those features, then it's absolutely world class. If the high-resolution shots get real quick the there is no need or bigger sensor anymore. Then you can take everything in high res mode. I have no idea if they would ever make a follow-up for the em1x. The whole philosophies of the brand are small and portable, so I don't know if such a camera fits in that profile. But we will just patiently wait for the next new product 🙂 thanks for watching and your comment! Grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater I think they will do one in the end. I know it will be bulky compared, but the possibilitys with double processors or even three processors could be huge. If each have same buffer memory as the mark 2 then I guess a 50 mp high-res photo could be taken in really high speed. Let's say 9 photos in like 1/500s each, maybe the sensor could at the same time take one for each processor, and that could be like all 9 photos is taken within 1/100 of a second and then the high res raw photo is made and saved from the nine photos. All together this camera could be so very powerful it would be the fastest camera in the world in many aspects and keeping the 20 mp stacked sensor.
      I want lower resolution high res mode added for like 30 mp pictures. Maybe only 3 photos are needed to be stacked for such a resolution. If raw file noice reduction and more different subject detection programs are added, different sports for example, it would smash the coming Canon R1. And the rest of our wanted functions like a "filter-button" for on/off for our selected combo of filters. Why stop at ND, GND. Add more filters like for B/W photo and so on. Maybe coloured graded filters too. Possibilities in a bigger camera body is immense. The multiprocessor cooling problem can also only be solved in a bigger body.
      Still I want not only advanced cameras. I want super easy creative low cost cameras too. With subject detection modes for street and family photos. That would be fun too.

How about LIve ND + GND + High res and Livetime in one go, for instance. And so many other combos, it would be something if that ever happened.
