How does this affect the health of the engine, most people I've heard from (on forums) have said that boosting an n52 probably isn't a good idea because well its na to begin with?
I don’t think u will find many forums saying boosting is a good idea if your looking for the car to run forever grandma driving I wouldn’t boost. But if I want nasty power and don’t mind maintenance boosting is fine if you actually gapped the piston rings engine health would be fine, also you can drive a boosted car and not get into boost until ur on the gas and spool the turbo your car is essentially n/a when it runs at a vacuum like cruzing. @rumrunnersracing ofc, not like I expect a car like that to run for donkeys years but I just wanted to know if it was as catastrophic as ut was made out to be. Nice to see such big numbers on an n52 though and that its been running for 2 years, very nice 👍. But would you be able to do this on a 325i with the 3 stage manifold to the same standard as a 330i? Sorry fir the dumb question lol just wanna know what really differentiates the two.
@@z6ro527 yo there’s no dumb questions here everyone starts somewhere. It’s only catastrophic if you dont tune it properly run to high of boost without proper fueling or running to much timing. But a big thing is knowing what u need these cars need added aftermarket fuel Pressure regulators with a vacuum reference to raise fuel pressure 1:1 with boost so you keep the correct fuel atomization and have bigger injectors also intercoolers are big anything to keep the air cool. I had an issue with intake temps being to high and my ecu is a custom standalone so it’s programmed to pull timing if the engine gets to hot anything over 35 degrees intake temp it pulls timing to keep the engine from blowing up. I added a massive intercooler and ran the intake through the headlight to keep temps low that’s how u run safe boost. and lowering intake temps is how u run more boost that’s essentially what meth injection is cooling intake air while adding fuel. So it’s not that anything is catastrophic will happen when done right while knowing what u need for it to all work and having a good tuner and up To date maintenance . But most ppl I’ve seen slap on a turbo no tune no supporting fuel setup with a back yard tune they did themselves with minimal tuning knowledge and that shit blows up so they go online and tell everyone it just can’t be done 😆. Your engine will wear a bit faster sure but is that because u added a turbo 🤔 or because now that u have boost u get wild a lot more often 🤷♂️ ide go with the second I don’t know anyone who grandma drives a boosted bmw 😜. Thanks for the sub and I’ll make sure to go over this in my part 3 video Itill be a long one atm I’m getting over a cold so when my voice is normal I’ll unleash a video with everything u wanna know and more 👍
In all the boosted e90’s I’ve see no one runs a rising rate fuel pressure regulator even the boosted e90 forums make no mention of it unless it’s me mentioning it 😆 but boosting a car is pretty the same across all platforms pretty well and most ppl proper fueling for boost is common knowledge but bmw guys lack that knowledge because not many ppl are building their stuff themselves and posting the do’s and dont’s along the way so I’m trying to pickup that slack 😎
The manifold can be bought at eurocan racing or you can do what I did and just fabricate it in the garage the rest of the kit is just generic what any car needs to boost but if u have cash to burn eurocan sells a full kit but u can but it in pieces for a lot cheaper online if you know how to fab a little all depends on your situation tuning is the big thing ide get that figured before u try to put any kits on no tuning no boost
@ if you ran 7psi you wouldn’t have any issues at all stuff starts to get dicey in the 12psi+ region you just have to have proper fueling and a good tune I recommend a good sized intercooler as well to keep it all cool and 7psi is no problem for these engines. Itill run for years if your maintenance is up to date Just make sure to delete the ccv under the intake so you don’t add boost to the crank case or Itill blow all kinds of seals I found that out the hard way in my e46 got to work the underside was covered in oil 😆 these cars are the same intake connects to the crank case and the oil pan.
@@Anu-dn7hb I haven’t done anything internally you need the supporting mods like fuel pump injectors and a tune but yea they can run 7-10psi without issue not opening the engine at all. The turbo is from Amazon it’s a gt35 the exhaust manifold was made in house by a friend of mine and my ecu is a custom standalone made in house by another friend of mine lol. It will be on the market to buy spring 2025 we’re just boosting an automatic car to work out the functions for auto cars and the awd cars so you can electronically switch from awd to rwd whenever you want. But you can keep it cheap and flash tune your stock ecu and just modify your manifold and put a flange on if you weld. The engine is reliable if you do your daily maintenance and don’t go over 10psi or you will need to open the engine and gap piston rings. Any other questions u have during the process u can post here I reply to all of the comments on my videos good luck 👍
@@rumrunnersracing I am planning to do it, I will wait until you launch your turbo kit and Im gonna buy it, will it be maybe sooner amd what cost it would be?
I use a custom standalone my tuner is developing for the n52 that’s plug and play for running boost and keeping valvetronic functionality. But you can flash the stock ecu it’s way cheaper and still gets the job done but you have to lock your valvetronic in place. Good luck these things are a riot with boost 👍
I had my buddy just weld one up for me it’s not to hard there’s a few designs you can make a few v band clamps and some pipe bends and you could have one ready to go. I don’t think the ones Theyr selling online are worth the price you can buy the pipe and the welder to make one yourself for the prices I’ve seen online it’s just a bit of time getting the placement right.
It was boosted a bit over a year driven hard daily running 14psi consistently it currently needs piston rings it was boost creeping a bit and these engines unopened can’t do more then 14psi without meth injection or race gas other then that it’s recommended when boosting an n/a car to gap the piston rings for boost that’s what I’m doing currently to run 20psi
The engine in the car during that video has 130k on it and was real healthy the chassis has 490k on it she’s seen some road if your engine is healthy they love the boost just without gapping the piston rings I would recommend keeping boost 10psi max any more and your in that red zone where my car lives 😆 I boost creeped to 16psi slayin some tires and now I need to pull the engine and replace the piston rings and gap them for boost one blew and the car smokes like a chimney but I like to push the limits to see what the n52 can do for a reliable pretty fast setup 10psi is plenty it really wakes the car up good luck 👍

Where did you find a turbo kit for it? Wanna put one on my N/A 330i.
@@rumrunnersracing how much boost would you say is safe to run on that stock engine ? Trynna make my mind up on if to do it or not..

You haven't done anything to the motor??? I never knew this was possible or I would've boosted my n52 years ago
@@Anu-dn7hb I haven’t done anything internally you need the supporting mods like fuel pump injectors and a tune but yea they can run 7-10psi without issue not opening the engine at all. Since this I’m doing another series on the new build where I do open the motor and do some internal mods gap piston rings and install low compression pistons to run more boost

@@rumrunnersracing I'm afraid of turbos and twin turbos on BMW I'm just a scaredy cat cause I owned a 435i and had heaps of problems but the 335i go hard they are about 300hp stock I think
The 370 gt is more reliable and has 333hp stock but you don't get the same sound and comfort lol
As why I love BMW
I do want something naturally aspirated or something that will be reliable If tubo
I absolutely love the F82 M4 that's turbo but don't know the ins and outs of it same with the E60 M5 N/A but those are pre unreliable I head
For weight savings I could go for a 130i or 135i but idk how the n54 or n55 goes supposedly the n55 is more reliable from what I head but for cost wise I just stick to my n52 🤘😅

You should swap the hydro handle with that thing somehow😂
This actually an old setup I swapped both handles with actual wrenches 🔧 I welded on 😎
How in the fuck is it not exploding from that much boost
@@mutt9418 it’s all in the tuning my tuner set this up to run conservative timing a massive intercooler to keep intake air temps low and a standalone ecu that runs valvetronic. I’m doing a budget hellcat build as well 😅 I have a problem with cars I get to into my builds 😎
Can you put a thicker head gasket or some sort of shim to lower compression ratio ?
@@FabianRomano1 you can go with a thicker head gasket to lower compression yes, but the downside is there’s no way of knowing how much you lower compression by or where your sitting at afterwards. With swapping pistons you know what compression ratio your at. also thicker head gasket with a decompression plate won’t lower it as much as u want for high boost
@@rumrunnersracing you could measure the chamber volume at TDC before and after the gasket swap by pouring water with a graduated syringe through the spark plug hole. It works on motorcycles.
@@FabianRomano1 yea u could but then you have to get water out of your engine and I still don’t see how that gets you an exact number like I said it would lower it but measuring how much you lowered it is to difficult to be worth it and even after you use water displacement to measure volume that’s still just ballpark like using plastigauge to measure bearing clearance it might get u a ballpark but not going to get u any exact measurements 🤔
Hey man, I enjoy your contet, I have n52b25 engine, is it possible to boost this engine?
@@AmirUniqueTuni 100% yes it’s exactly the same if you look at a n52b30 and an n52b25 you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if it wasent in the car it will just make a bit less power then the n52b30 but the process and what you need is exactly the same down to the last bolt. if you follow my other videos on how to boost and what u need the process is the same and Itill get u boosted 👍

@@rumrunnersracing Thank you for information, I have zf6hp automatic gearbox, flash tuned with xhp, will it work when I boost engine?
Also where did you buy turbo kit for your engine?
What is the reliability after the turbo installation because this is my daily car, just wanna know. 😃
Auto will handle the boost fine just keep it 7-10psi and the engine will love it. My turbo “kit” was pieced together mostly from Amazon and from eBay.
What engine management did you use to run boost in the engine ?
I use a custom standalone my tuner is developing for the n52 that’s plug and play for running boost and keeping valvetronic functionality. But you can flash the stock ecu it’s way cheaper and still gets the job done but you have to lock your valvetronic in place. Good luck these things are a riot with boost 👍
@ hahahHh fair enough wasn’t aware of that well I suppose it being locked on full lift ain’t so bad
Just bought a gt35 for mine! Where did you get your exhaust manifold from if you don’t mind me asking?
I had my buddy just weld one up for me it’s not to hard there’s a few designs you can make a few v band clamps and some pipe bends and you could have one ready to go. I don’t think the ones Theyr selling online are worth the price you can buy the pipe and the welder to make one yourself for the prices I’ve seen online it’s just a bit of time getting the placement right.
How mant miles when you boosted it ? How many miles since boosted lol. Very tempting, mines only at 100k and healthy af

What standalone ECU is this?
It’s a custom built from my tuners company popformance it’s not in the market yet just working out a few last things before it gets released to the public
You can inquire about getting one on his website www.popformance.com
Where did you find the turbo header
My buddy made it for me he’s a welder by trade
I have a 328 E92 with a turbo and the engine is very good. The N52 328 motor is original, but I want to know from you what tone I got with the DME so that the motor works properly because I suffer from this problem.
Me and my tuner worked together to develop a plug and play standalone for these cars this is me doing the testing it should be available for purchase sometime this year. I hear you can flash the factory dme I just don’t know anyone who has done it maxxecu I think makes a standalone but no valvetronic control you lock that out that’s y I like this standalone because not only is it plug and play and gives you valvetronic control there’s also a lot of safety features to prevent you from blowing your motor. I will update this page when we make more progress on the ecu.

Can it handle 20??
That’s a question I’m gunna try to answer once she gets back on the dyno with the lower compression pistons and after gapping the piston rings I think it should be able to take it 🤔 really only one way to find out. But stock without opening the piston ring gap 20psi will blow your piston ring lands that will actually happen 15-16psi even with safe timing and perfect fueling these motors just run a real tight ring gap from factory they don’t like the extra heat and pressure it was boost creep blew the last motor and started me down the path of the rebuild for more turbo sauce. My concern is what stock connecting rods can handle but I plan on finding that out as well 😆
Stock Tran?
Yup that trans is stout af it’s handled all
Kinda of abuse including testing launch control where I bent both sections of driveshaft and sheared the teeth out of my diff and tore 4 of 6 bolts out of my guibo 😅 but the trans was fine tho and I slam gears all the time with it.
