I have a E92 328i for over 10 years now its 15 years old, and still going strong over 132k miles. Ill never sell that car Prob.
Hey there, I'm considering getting a 328i and had a few questions. Firstly, how would you describe the driving experience? Secondly, I'm interested in the cost of ownership - what are the typical maintenance and repair expenses each year? And how much does it cost to insure? As a first-time car owner, I'm not sure what to expect. Lastly, do you think the 328i would be a good first car for a high school student? And are there any specific pros and cons that I should be aware of? Thank you for your help!
I have an e60 530i with 215k on it. Love that car. No leaks or smoking or anything like that. They last forever with good maintenance
I have the same car coupe version with the sport package got 57000 miles got it with 45000 runs smooth haven’t had any issues probably will do the same haha
@@asad-bk4ufI can tell you this bro, I’ve owned 3 E90 328’s currently driving one today. Best fucking bmw I ever owned never left me stranded anywhere (can’t say the same for my 2012 750I)true nightmare on wheels. As for driving. It’s like a knife on butter. maintenance always get the oil changed on time please and make sure brakes and suspension is always good. It’s a bmw might cost a little pocket change but it won’t be obnoxiously taking your money as long as you really treat the car good seriously. And that’s all there is to it I hope helped your decision
@@Trdbrglr75 do you do all of your own maintenance or just some?
Dean… your videos are one of the main reasons why I got my kid his first BMW.. a clean LCI n52 328i… my kid and I did everything maintenance wise, so he has a car for a looong time
I have a 09 328i with this engine. It has 271,000 miles. Currently, it's in the shop getting a new coolant reservoir and hose. I smelled a coolant leak and found the puddle. I recently had coil packs and plugs changed. Other than that, gas and oil over the last year. I don't drive her hard and she rewards me with a trouble free nice drive.
sweet power delivery. I want to keep mine as long as it is driving.... 256,000 kms. Chnged tge starter, coolant system refresh battery , OFHG oil pressure sensor, selenoids new, ... tensioner pulley and belt, Keepers... ... no turbos, no HPFP , the last NA in line 6 engine.
@@neils68 awesome news. I am at 579k!! 07 328i n52 . All original engine and transmission. 1 water pump and thermostat . Brakes, tires, plugs coils, and oil changes every 6k. Still running like new!! Will try to run it to a million!
Love my N52 lump in my 06 Z4 3.0si stick. Keeping her forever. Thanks for the great videos Doc. Been with you since 5K subs.
Wow 😅 didn’t know you was a subscriber from that long ago good to know my first ones are still here today 👍🏻 I appreciate you man
@@BMWDoctor never leaving. Your knowledge on these cars are beyond reproach. Saved people thousands of dollars. And that’s real as it gets. Be safe my friend.
I picked up same 2 months ago from salvage auction for 3K with taxes and fees. It had a damaged front end and two quarter panels and driver door had a crease but only has 130k miles on it. Now Im doing all the required maintenance before making it my daily. I ended up getting one after driving my friends Z4 up Mt. Rainier for a camping trip. I knew I had to have one and when my friend told me about the reliability and easy to work on, it was a done deal.
I daily drive a 2005 e90 330i manual with 280k km on the clock. Still has all its' power and revs as smooth as ever.
I have 2006 325i with 6 speed manual transmission. I am the 2nd owner and 70k miles on it. My first bmw and I love it!
how did u find it and how much was it ?
@@Razvan528i have the same car but with 170k miles. Sport package, idrive, xenon lights. I paid 4k. located in chicago
@@Razvan528facebook marketplace prolly ur best bet
Glad I decided to go with my 2013 128i with the N52B30 and 6 speed steptronic. Just under 60K miles on it. I almost went with one of the 2L turbo diesel models. That car was clean too.
Proud to say I have a 2009 N52 2.5 straight 6, which is housed in a BMW Z4.
I've had the car for 8 years and it's never given me a problem. 😊
Does it use oil?
I have heard that the B25 tends to use oil, the B30 doesn’t.
@@e28forever30 same e85 z4 2.5si, if you use factory recommend grade 5w30, i will consump 1 litre/5000kms even from new. but if you use 5w40, it will be 100% all right, you dont need to add extra between each service.
I drive for 6,5 years a 2007 530i, has 235.000 on the clock. Never let us down and still drives great. Dealer maintained. And yes pen bobines all 6 needed replacement a few years ago. Good, reliable and reasonable cheap cars.
My 2011 F10 528i still running strong today with 216,000 MILES on the odometer with its N52. Oil changes every 5-6k miles using Mobil 1 Full Syn here in the US. I know some day the tranny will be toast but the engine is still running strong. Car is in dire need of bushings and I have the new check valves but cannot reach them easily with the heat shields which seem permanently attached in the engine bay.
did you ever have the vanos bolt problem?
I have a 2011 X3 28i, running strong with 150k miles! Only issue it’s ever had was just before 100k miles, it had a slight misfire which was easily fixed. Other than that, no problems whatsoever. Amazing engine
did you ever have the vanos bolt problem? thanks
Just bought a 2007 e91 325i with 91k on the clock and absolutely in love with it. Good service history so and looking back through all the paper work. Never had any major problems. Hopefully they don’t all arrive in my ownership!
Wow this is such a timely video. I’ve literally been trying to figure out if I should get rid of my 2009 528i with almost 250k miles and replace it with one of the newer cars with the B58 engine. Think I’m going to keep my E60 and just overhaul the engine. This thing has been such a tank and is still driving without fault. I just thought that it wasn’t worth investing money into a car with that many miles on it.
I've got a 2008 E92 328i currently at 263k. No major repairs besides the water pump. Always current with my oil changes @ 5k miles.
Hi there,I'm actually thinking about getting that car myself and I have a few questions. First of all, How would you describe the driving experience? Also, I'm curious about the cost of ownership - how much do you typically spend on maintenance and repairs each year? And how about insurance costs? As a first-time car owner, I'm not quite sure what to expect. Finally, would you recommend the 328i as a good first car for a high school student? And are there any particular pros and cons that you think I should be aware of? Thanks for your help!
@@asad-bk4uf depends, if you wanna tune, get a 335. Both will break, it will cost more than other cars. I love my 2011 and the driving experience is great. I’ve had about 2,000 in repairs over in the past 3 years, 150,000 miles on it, don’t buy from a lot of previous owners, and looks beat. Get one grandpa owned
No leaks???
281000 miles and still my daily driver. E83 2007. I’ve had every issue you mentioned.
Just done the water pump and thermostat on my 2006 E92 330i, failed at 80k miles. Done the oil filter housing and oil cooler gasket along with a new starter motor too. Your vids are a huge help, thanks Dean
You are so lucky to have 3.0 .. i have 2.5L and I wonder is there a big reliability difference?
Got the same car, @ 118k , how about ur vanos gears, I think ima change mine
No bad BMW's, just bad owners. 2012 N52 here. I've done it all highlighted issues and recommended maintenance in the last four years except valve cover, gasket and Y-pipe. I paid the local expert import shop $1,300 A man has got to know his limitations (Clint Eastwood). Last on the list is starter motor. Not looking forward to paying my shop to pull intake manifold out.
did you have the vanos bolts issue? thanks
The last great N/A inline 6 from the company
Smooth power band, lots of power. .... mine is 256 000kms and still has soo much sweet power. No turbo, last NA engine... a keeper.
I have a 2011 BMW Z4 30i and I absolutely love it, I've had it for about 2 years now and never really have any problems only had to replace a gasket seal but that was it, it's a great engine and quite powerful
did you ever have the vanos bolts issue? thanks
2011 328i and here is the list of repairs (all done by myself as a certified technician for 14 years) valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, radiator with upper and lower hoses. Drivers door lock actuator, replaced the spark plugs under maintenance and still has original coil packs, transmission oil drain and fill, and fixed broken wire for manual downshift. Not bad for 158k miles on it.
did you ever have the vanos bolts problem? thanks
its not n52 but n52 what u have or no?

🤪🤪🤪
268,000mi here on my 2007 E90. Regular maintenance is all that has been necessary and it's still healthy.
I am doing total repair on a 2007 n 52 2.5L it is soo expensive.. m54 is so much cheaper to repair.. i thought N52 are most unsuccessful engine but I am happy its actually the greatest
And btw, since 2007 the engine was not once opened..
I've got 255000kms on a 2011 328i e91 with a 6mt. I love that car so damn much.
did you ever have the vanos bolts issue? thanks
I own a 328xi E91 with 172k miles that is regularly driven above 5k-6k RPM and it doesn’t bat an eye. It’s got it’s quirks and flaws but it’s the best bang for my buck I’ve ever spent on a car
You made me all nervous now....😂...I bought my 2008 528xi with 155k on it which I thought was insane and the car wouldn't get old. All I do is the regular oil and coolant changes....I am now at 175k with it and had nothing wrong with it in 5 years now.......I wonder how much longer my luck will last....
The only problem I had was the Valvecover on the blacktop n52. Replaced it at 190'000km. I switched to 15'000km oil interval instead of 30'000. Otherwise rock solid
why would you change your oil at 30k🥲
@@martinzucha7846 yea fr way too long i wouldn’t even go over 5k miles
I have a 2009 128i cabrio with the n52 engine here in Canada and it has been very reliable.
Picked up my first bmw, an 06 e90 about a month ago. Amazing car! I picked it up for $800, and it's been great so far. Looks like a lot of these things were changed before I got it.
how’d you get it for 800 dollars
@@Sephiyroth he is lying

Ngl I absolutely love this engine, owned my car for a year and it's been flawless
2012 328i w 150,000 miles and no oil leaks
New E90 owner. Looking forward to maintaining and enjoying this engine.
Gang gang I just got mine in December
Great video knowing i have had one for the past thirteen years! And still love it!👍🙏
Just bought a e82 n52. Can't wait to go broke on it.
My 530i 2006 just hit over 300,000 I do around 8 oil changes a year constantly push it over 120mph it’s truly a beast of a car. Runs super smooth. Currently doing lots of fixes on it that are wearing and tearing , control arms , shocks, mechatronic sleeves tranny fluid filter change. Oil pan gasket cam /crank sensors /spark plugs/ coil overs gas filter, both one underneath and one under back seat 02 sensor
8 oil changes per year? That’s a lot, no?
Lifters are so annoying. Mine is 167k miles drive 300 miles every week but dang it won’t go away. Even using liqui moly products and oil.
N52 here I removed cyl head for refreshing/tuning (in/ex. porting, etc.) slap CAI + complete exhaust, custom remap 310 crank hp on stock cams! smooth and strong love it!!
Hello! How is the oil consumption like? I head 1L every 3K kilometers. Thanks!
N52 RULES MY BROTHER! THANKS!
You forgot the Z4 3.0 si in your list of cars with this engine. Also we did get the black covered engine here in the UK. My 2007 Z4 coupe has it.
No we did get the black valve cover just not on E90 and E60 I know Z4 and 130i got the black valve cover as I now have one! Z4 is next on my list believe me
@@BMWDoctor I stand corrected then. Looking forward to seeing the Z4 video. Keep up the good work.
Oh you do indeed just it didn’t go into the E60 or E90 as bmw stopped production of it in them cars from 2007 due to N53. Thank god it didn’t end up in the 130i and the Z4
@@BMWDoctor Thank God I got a 2007 130i facelift (black cover)
Love my n52 z4 3.0si. It doesn't have the craziest horse power but it is still fun with 255hp. Would love a little more but the n52 can't handle boost enough to justify it.
Thanks Dean!! I watch your channel everyday and love my n52
LOVE THE 2023 N52 VIDEO DOCTOR DEAN. N52 is the BEST inline V6 out there, and you're one of the only channels covering them.
v6!? inline6 you mean
Whats an inline V6?
We know what you mean. Greetings from Denmark
So basically - every possible part is a common problem. As an e61 n52b30 owner I can confirm. I've changed so many parts that I've paid the car value twice for 3 years and 40k km. It is 250k km. However - in between being in a repair shop it is a great car!
just bought a 125i e82. looking forward to a lot of fun with it
I have mine since 2009 it has 157k miles and still going
Thank for this info . Keep up the good work Doc.
after bmw and very reliable you may expect a list of 20 things about that engine that are prone to break. How is this considered reliability? people praise the b58 engine now but its too soon to be considered reliable as a matter of fact. It is very hard to find a reliable and cost effective bmw but I guess the "freude am fahren" has its cost
Hi Dean just wantend to tell you you are the reason I bought an N52 in the E90 andt it's been great!
I was wondering if you could make a video about a strange issue I've been having
The car runs superb for the first 5-8 miles when it's cold, after it warms up, there is hesitation and a definite loss of power 2800-4500 rpm.
Since i bought it at 150k miles ive done new spark plugs, gaskets, new disas (febi) and vanos solenoids (pierburg)
For codes, i have catalytic converter below threshold, both banks, 29F4 and 29F5.
They keep returning..
I drive a E90 328i its a 2008 and we are pushing 210k and engine still running strong
I've found valvetronic motor seals fail more than the actual cam cover gasket, the oil runs down and looks like it's the cam cover, clean throughly 1st and change just the motor seal before you go changing the cam cover gasket. If the leak comes back then change the cam cover gasket.
here 2006 325i with 251,000 miles still strong
Great Video & Glad to own an E60 525i N52 :-)
The best engine for the best model. Love BMW 630i
650i going strong 😊 in love with my V8❤
I'm about to buy a z4 coupe and wish someone as expert as Dean could come along and help me determine if the engine is a dog or in good condition.
Hi bud.
I owned couple of Bmw's.
In general. ,they are good cars ,with good engines ,the problem are the other components that fail ,like modules and plastic components from the engine bay that leave you stranded on the motorway 🛣 🙄
Driving dynamics is brilliant no doubt about that but ,in general reliability is not it's key thing on bmw's unfortunately.
I mean ,it's a perfect car for a guy like you ,that loves fixing them every day and having no problem doing that but , for a normal guy like me ,that just wants a car to start every day and go to work ,😅 didn't really work unfortunately 😁
Great content 👌 👏 👍 😌
Agreed, well if you mean hoses and the cooling system at least. They will probably fail in later age and will leave you by the roadside. I wouldn't run a 15 year old BMW without breakdown cover for recovery to a garage for this reason. If you can accept that, you have got a brilliant car that is a better drive than even the top of the range cars out these days
For me it's the valve ticking that annoys me. If done the oil change and 3k Rev for 5 minutes. It does ago away for a bit but sometimes it will come back. I'm really debating and about to change the lifters.
Il faut mettre p18😊 avant j’avais la même problème que vous p18 mecarun+ 5w40 roule 5000 tour
Exactly the same issue with my e90 330i
I change filter on every oil change but the tick is a given with these engines. Not damaging anything but your ears
i didnt have enough time to watch the whole video.. but would this problem also apply to the bmw 128i N52 engines?
Great tips. Thank u
noising lifters this is an icon !
I have a 2007 328i 220k miles recently replaced all 4 oxygen sensors, vanos solenoids, and vanos valves, I still have a service engine soon light for all 4 cat sensors where should I go from here? I do notice that the misfire when happening goes away when the oil fill cap is open, hence the reason why I want to change the valve cover as I have a plastic one with the Ccv valve built in
Great channel! Keep it up 👍
Thank you! 👍
Would be a 125i with N52 and black cover a good buy in general? 140k on the clock.
Hi, I have a 630i 2006 with N52 engine. 140,000 miles now with good history, the last few years being a private garage with excellent reputation. Car runs bang on but I will be pressing it into service as a motorway runner in a few months and hope to run it for perhaps another 18 months/ 40k ( ie to 180,000 miles total by then). Its quite low revving at motorway speeds and the mpg will be acceptable. Should I have all the prevention things done you mentioned ?? Maybe a "super service" . Just after opinion, thanks
Hello buddy, absolutely brilliant channel. I've just bought an E92 330i and I'm dying to get into the maintenance. What make 2 post lift did you buy for your workshop. I just built my own wooden workshop and had the same issues as you have. That lift looks perfect. The Instagram link not working, I would like to chat to you about the workshop and what electrics you put in for the lift.
Top man
Xdrive on this reliable?
262,000 miles on my n52 runs like new beat the shit out of it
Questions. If my n52 occasionally struggles and idles like crap with the AC on could that be my ignition coils? Sometimes the idle will drop and then jump
Am currently looking into for one of these as we speak thanks for the update
Just bought a e90 325i with 160k with this engine & it drives mint. Found out it spent most its life been maintained by Munich Legends
Good man 👍 but explain to me what’s great about them maintaining it ? I don’t understand that there isn’t anything to be happy about that I mean you could do things the exact same as they do and probably with more care as it’s your car and you won’t treat it just like another customers bmw. I have never understood why people get happy about a garage maintaining it they do nothing different to anyone else what did they do give it some special formula everytime or something ? You know what I mean it don’t make sense 😅
@BMW Doctor 😅 the reason i am happy is because all parts that have been changed are with genuine bmw parts & the car has been clearly looked after. Yes, I agree i can do everything they can just ask my e46 😀, i work on all my cars myself. It's just nice to buy a bmw & all the previous work has been carried out by someone who knows bmw's
What’s the difference with black engine covers and silver
Owned various bmws for over 40 years. Always the same thing. Valve cover gasket oil filter housing gasket leaking. Somethings never change. Come on BMW.
No leaking oil sump/pan? :D
Has anyone had any experience using the Dinan ignition coils?
So which one is best the silver cover one or the black cover n52? Here in Malaysia we got plenty of solver and black cover n52 cars in the market.
I’ve recently sold my X3 35xi with N55 and looking at a 2010 528i with N52 engine, just wondering if 200,000 miles isn’t too much and if there are anything I need to watch out for?
BMW Z4 E89 N52 engine. Are the transmission and differential oil changes required? Please advise. Cheers
Hello, planing to get BMW F10 528i 240 hp version N52 engine, what are the parts that you suggest to be changed on first maintanence, except for the common one, the car has 135k miles on in.
You are fantastic 👏
Hi mate great videos much appreciated. I have a quick question regarding a 08 325i e92 I bought with a coolant leak from the micky mouse flange I changed this and noticed oil in the coolant thinking it's the oil cooler gasket. Would this cause the amber coolant/radiator light to be on as I couldn't reset it. Many thanks
Hey there doc, i'm looking to buy an n52 e92 330i but i can't figure out which cars have it, i've read everything i could find online, even a bmw n52 pdf i found, the pdf says the 2006 car has the n52b30 with 190kw/255hp, some wikis say the n52 for the 330i has been produced up to 2012 or so and goes up to 200Kw too........but then again, N53 started production in 2008 and goes up to 200KW/272hp too, so when i search for 2006 e92 330i cars on the market, they all say 272HP, so do the 2008+ ones, i've been struggling with this for the past 4 days and i'm going absolutely crazy, need a car ASAP and i'd like to avoid the N53, is there any way to discern the n52b30?
Doesnt the UK have the 325i from 05-07 have the n52? This video implies its just the 6 series.
J’ai fait un joint de culasse N52B30 vous avez une idée pour quoi ?
Hi, when (km) need to replace the timing chain on a n52b30 engine? It will be knocking or just broke? Thank You!
Question.
Can M54 engine work into a 2010 E90 328i
Probably but why either put an n52 or n55😊
Hi mate where can we contact you to get a tuned ECU for the 325i with 3 stage manifold in the U.K.? Cheers and keep up the great work
Morning from over the pond Dr!
Quick question for you.
I have an 09 128i.
During cold start the rpm will surge by about 200 rpm for about 8-10 seconds. Then it levels off at the high idle as it should till it warms up.
I notice that at cold start, if i just blip the throttle, it immediate goes to its normal high idle as it should till it warms up.
Otherwise car drives fine. With no codes. Any ideas?
Can you make the same video about the n53?
You didn't mention oil leak at the sump?
Love the slowly talk for non uk viewers
No problem 🙂
I have a N52B25AE black cover, and CCV was exactly the same as silver cover, is that normal? I had heated hoses, one coming up from the crankcase onto the splitter, one coming out of the splitter into the valve cover, and one Y shaped one within the intake manifold. Does that mean I have an N52B25AE with an upgraded intake manifold?
E92 325i has the same engine isnt it?
I have an e87 bmw 120d there is a shudder when braking down hill only. I replaced brake disks and pads but still the same issue. When resetting the front brakes it does not reset but shows an abs light on the service menu. There is no permanent ABS light on when switching the vehicle on or when doing a diagnostic. Could you kindly advise on what could possibly cause these problems. Thank you
Dean, do you have any videos about options for CCC iDrive in an E90 where its faulty and what options there are if you just want to remove the whole unit and replace it with something else? Even if its something that doesnt use the iDrive display. Don't want to spend $1k+ shipping it off to be repaired. Most videos i have seen upgrade the display etc. but rely on the existing idrive computer unit.
Can you help me with any advice? I'm from Romania and I have some problems with my e91 325iX
Good afternoon Sir ,I have a question please I am struggling to find the best oil for my Bmw 320d 2015 pre lci ,I used 5w40 which made my engine sound like it struggling hard ,currently using 5w30 ,thinking to go 0w30 as per Bmw recommends, ( 0w30 and 5w30 )could I still use 0w30 even if the temperature reaches 30+ Celsius up to 40 degrees Celsius? As now of now using 5w30 engine sounds better and less strain thinking to go 0w30 would be better for engine strain ? Please advise me ,many thanks .
What do you have to say about testimonials like Scotty Vilmer's "I'd does before buying a BMW?" I've never seen a video he's done on an N52 engine.
Hi Dean - no where have you mentioned the vanos bearing ledge issues
I bought a e90 325i 2007 with 150k on the clock and have been battling with the dreaded 2A87 code, changed both solenoids for bmw ones and still the code comes back soon as I floor the car. Engine light comes on
