    3 of my 4 BMWs have had engine failures. 2 from coolant leaks. 4th one I finally learned, do the cooling system maintenance before the car over heats, no issues with that one.

      At 470k km she probably needs to get pulled apart and checked unless a big service was done on it in the last 5-10 years.. theyre great and reliable but by now you probably need piston rings and the crankshaft/rod bearings done, also new valve springs if you push the engine to higher RPMs. Thats if you want it to run for another 200k :D

      3:45 in 🤬🤬🤬
      But okay, to be fair the "M" series engines were quite robust (as long as you do preemptive maintenance [aka: "I need to justify my love for this engine by twisting reliability issues due to cheap plastic into maintenance issues so the victimized owners take the blame"])
      Fact of the matter-and political conundrum for myopic BMW dick suckers-is that 99% of people do not care enough about their car to even listen to any of this.... their response is gonna be "woha fuck that I don't got time for this shit. I'm gonna go buy a Lexus now."

    • @DisturbedBurger

      It's difficult for me to consider an engine "reliable" when most of these BMW engines needs a tune-up before every 100k or else it dies, and most of the people buying these cars are suckered into performance promises thinking they can just get away with 500k only doing oil changes every 15k and changing the air filter, like it's a Lexus.
      My father ended up getting himself of an E39 with the M54 once upon a time....I remember the alternator going bad once, and another time the engine just died while driving for seemingly no reason. Though I concede that unlike the original N63, if you maintain an M54 like a performance engine designed by lofty, unhinged pipe-dreamers....ya, you'll get 300k+ out of it no problem. He is much happier with his Acura TL he's had since 2011.
      ....I guess I just mostly condemn BMW for their irresponsible business practices and suggesting 15k oil change intervals 🤮🤮🤮. These cars are for people who give a fk about what they drive.

    • @MisoElEven
      @MisoElEven Месяц назад

      @@DisturbedBurger Alternator usually gives signs well ahead of time that its failing. In the M50,M52,M54 family of engines if you keep the coolant (and oil) flowing to the engine its most likely never going to fail. They are reliable and cheap to keep in working conditions, its why all the wannabe racer students here in Europe drive BMWs. They will take the abuse, need a coolant hose or a water pump from time to time (in the case of M54 specifically it will also burn some oil) and its going to run until you send it to a tree..
      Also especially in E39s the M52/M54 engines live to reach high mileages because theyre heavier and attract less drifters (or a different kind of drifters who dont trash the car all the time). Most of them already have their clocks turned down by at least 100k :D mine says 306k km but according to technical reports from regular checks (MOT etc.) it should be at 500+ :D still drives like new by the way.

    • @DisturbedBurger
      @DisturbedBurger Месяц назад

      @@MisoElEven the problem is in America with the majority of the sales being leases, and people following the absolutely horrific recommended maintenance intervals. I am not kidding when I say BMW of north America recommends oil changes every 15000miles or 1 year whichever comes first. So accordingly they give the car back after 4 years and 40000-50000 miles later the car is about to get it's 4th oil change before being sold to the sucker who thinks they're getting it used for a bargain.
