You guys are lucky, i blew my engine at 205k, also recently got a faulty steering column due to the cassette push to start, also rear axles are a pain to find due to them making 2 in the year of 06. All in all tho, with my new 130k km engine in the car, everything is running like new once again !
Buying an 06 N52 330i was probably one of the best car purchasing decisions i have ever made. This car just glides so well around windy roads. Always feels planted to the ground and although it seems quiet inside i have heard it from the outside driving past and it sounds great!
A lot of people can start by making sure their 2 or 3-stage manifold actually works. Most of the time after 100000 the Disa valve get's stuck (actually oil getting into it's motor and it becomes "weak") and no longer closes which reduces power at lower RPS (because DISAs are designed to be CLOSED by default and only opening at certain RPM) and no error ever tell the owner about it. As for mods - most of european versions already have it including 3-stage and different air intake/filter so one can find used EU car/parts to retrofit it.
I have an E90 '06 330i 6 MT with 153K, with an AFE intake, SuperSprint Cat back exhaust, UUC short shifter, stainless-steel brake lines, cross-drilled and slotted rotors, sticky upgraded brake pads, Royal Purple transmission and differential fluid with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S sticky a$$ tires and this combo is so much better than my former E46 M3! 32 MPG at 75 mph, 26 overall. This thing almost stalls at 60 MPH in 6th! I've contemplated getting a newer version.......but this is such a pure driver's car I can't do it!! Love the N52!!! Cheers!!!
I have a 125i (EU Spec) in Argentina that I use as a track car. I started out with the 218hp, mapped to 130i spec, to the alleged 265/272hp Bimmerlabs maps. I have the "euro intake" and DISA valves from factory, I added a Turner Silicone Hose and BMC filter to make the intake a bit more free flowing, and then bought the MILVS kit and had Jim at Kassel Performance do a remote tune. We probably did 40/50 dyno runs, he was very helpful to get the straightest possible torque curve as there was a dip at about 3.5k. We managed 233whp without headers. That's why I said allegedly 265hp... I now have custom race headers and full exhaust as its now a dedicated track car. I'll dyno the car soon, and then play with the compression ratio by modifying the head gasket. We'll see what is pulls, but gaining 70whp reallistically isn't that easy in N52's. An ESS supercharger adds another 70whp but I don't think its worth the 5/6k plus labor costs.
There is a mod called MILV's which stands for modified intake lift valves, and it goes underneath the springs in the valvetronic to increase valve lift from 9.9mm to 11mm I believe. This means about 10 to 15 wheel hp gains. This is a pretty popular mod that goes a long way in increasing n52 power. Great video, super helpful with straightforward content 👍👍
Yeah the milvs give more intake valve lift. Simply car things don't worry will tell you all the secrets because we are family now. Lol. Oh did you know the icing on the cake is not the engine tune but to supercharged it to 300+ whp with the ess kit.😁 also the n54 manifold swap has more torque than the 330i and flows more on the top end too. So it's a popular option. The thing about the 3 stage is the disa valves are not that reliable.
I remember the MILVS being a thing on bimmerpost awhile ago, was always debating it but figured it wasn’t worth it to try and pull power from the N52. If someone is going to install the MILVS and hasn’t messed with their car before, take it somewhere lol I hate getting cars in that someone tried to do something themselves only to where I have to work on a mess they made that would have been done right if they took it to someone who knew what they were doing. It’s a simple install but when some people can hardly do their brakes, I don’t have much faith in the majority of people do do MILVS
I run an N52 in my e86 endurance car and these upgrades with the correct tune is about 258 whp. I have tested EPIC motorsports, Activewerks and Kassel Performances tune and Kassel's was the most aggressive to get to the max number with an average delivering 255 whp, Epic's is a more conservative and better for daily driving and Activewerks was the latter delivering more power in the lower and less at the top end. If you really want to put the power down, I would suggest upgrading the differential gearing ratio to 3.73 and a light weight flywheel for maximum performance.
I have made all of these mods, including transmission tuning mods. It has brought the car to life. I’m running Borla Touring Edition cat-backs that sound so good.

Good video. But there are "HP" gains, and there are "speed" gains, simply going faster on the road. And if you wish to go faster, and not just in a straight line, suspension upgrades are a nice way to go. You will be able to better utilize the HP your engine creates. However, I do know that this is not necessarily a cheap and budget friendly modification for your car, but will not only provide for a faster vehicle (especially in the turns), but one that stops quicker, and is safer all around as well. Stopping ability isn't just pads and calipers, but also tires and suspension add to the vehicles braking capability. And if you can afford it, adding M3 suspension parts are a good way to go for your M52 vehicle.

I am from Portugal (Europe). I have an 325i (2500 engine) 218hp. I have the intake that you talked about, and you wanna know something?? It wont roars like the intake you guys have in the US! I mounted a cold air intake and you dont ear the intake engine noise, its just sad!!
I have an e90lci 328i is it possible i already have the 3 stage manifold?
n51 also has 10.0 compression ratio compared to n52s 10.7 which is why it has the 3 stage manifold and has lower power than the 330i n52
Is this more for just the e90 n52 or can this be done on the e60 as well?
Just bought back my 08 328xi e92 which was my first car when I was 16! Now I own my e93 335i
was your e90 reliable??
Love this video and I checked under my hood of my 09 e90 and it said ULEV.😔 Mines a 6spd Manual too and I'm going to have to look into the 330i manifold.
Whats wrong with the ulev thats the n52 as in for me i have the sulev which is n51
@@justinbp6198 If I'm not mistaken, the SULEV has the three stage manifold in it already and just needs to be programmed to operate. The ULEV doesn't have the three stage manifold in it.😔
i got a 323i with a 2.5 N52 produces 200 HP at the crank
So, I have a SULEV 2011 328i, so from what I understand, I have three n51 tune. What exactly would I have to look in to buying to tune it?
active autowerke tune available on their website
Good advice! Back when I had my e92 328i I had the Active autoworks headers/ 3stage manifold/intake/tune that thing was a lot of fun. I’ve got some videos of it on my channel if you want to check them out they are Pretty far down, because now I have a 335i and a 2018 mustang GT lol
My car says SULEV, is their any downsides to it being a N51?
I have an n51, what could I do to get it to make more power? Just a tune?
I could use some clarification, I have the N51(52) does this I already have the 3 stage intake and mean all i have to do is tune the car? Cause i got a little confused???
from my understanding yea. it would be good if you bought some after market parts though such as a cold air intake filter
Does this work on the 523i 2011 F10?
Can much be done to lively up the 2.5 525i
U telling me I only need an ecu tune on my N51 sulev engine to get more hp?
Just got a 2009 328xi with 70k miles. Just had to replace some ignition coils but can anyone tell me what else would go wrong at about 70k miles? And what engine oil should I use
Ν52 is the best motor BMW made ever!!
Nope, M52 is the best engine
130i - best car w/ N52 3.0
You think I can pass emissions with catless headers, especially in California?
What if i want even more power? i already got the most powerfull n52 version stock... i want turbo.. (no i dont want n54)
Its gonna cost more to turbo than a n55
In reality, there's more difference between N52 and N51 engines.
Very true. I have an N51 and it also has secondary air injection, lower compression, and differences in the radiator, fuel tank, etc.
@@themsherwood fuel ramp, fuel line, injectors, intake elbow to name a few others
Is it worth getting a tune for an n51?
Are these reliable bro? I been thinking about getita n52 as a another project.
Watch BMW Doctor's videos on the N52, should be a pretty solid engine
These are great. I have an N52 with 200k miles. No oil leaks, no issues, etc.
If you're bored and need another video I've got a DCT 335is with vrsf downpipes, intake, and an e30 mhd stage 2 tune. Mineral white on red. She's a looker. You can take it for a spin. I'm down in San Diego.
Will the intake manifold fit on my 528xi?
