Great I catch myself saying “let’s do it and let’s do it now” all the time! I can’t hit lower than 20 lofted hybrids far at all. So I carry the 5 wood you convinced me to buy from your other video. That thing is a MONSTER and my new favorite club.
I carry both a 5 wood and 3 hybrid. I usually switch depending on the course. On long par 3's I prefer the 5 wood. On long approach shots it's the 3 hybrid.
I recently got rid of my 3 and 4 hybrids. I replaced them with a 5 wood and a 7 wood. The main reason is because I would get an errant shot from my hybrids when I really wasn't expecting it. After getting the 5 and 7 woods those errant shots just don't happen. I did get the Callaway Flash 5 and 7 wood. And I did have Callaway Steelhead hybrids. The extra distance from the 5 and 7 wood is welcomed as well. Where I play there isn't a lot of thick ruff. A hybrid is better than other clubs out of thick ruff.
I went to a 19 degree hybrid several years ago and was happy with the resluts. Have seen similar videos recently comparing the hybrid to the 5 wood and decided to put the 5 wood back in the bag. Pleased with the change. It feels easier to hit, especially when I need just a bit more distance. With the hybrid, when I try to jump on it a bit I tend to hook, not so with the 5 wood.
Hybrid is the happy medium for me between a driving iron and 5wood. Hits the right height window and and goes the right distance as well is much more consistent than the other two options. First year having one in the bag and I love it. Use it all over the course and confident everytime it comes out of the bag.
Hi James... Enjoyed this! Been at home messing around with my set up. The bottoms end I like with AP2 PW at 46, VOKEY 50,54 & 58. Top end has been a little messy...Driver still inconsistent! Have a 915 which I paid for, 917 I won, Mizuno ST180 and PXG 0811 LX. 3 Wood is awesome - CALLAWAY XR at 15 degree...Now here's the issue... I was thinking of a 5wood at 18 degree to gap the top end better but will now stay with utility after watching the review.. Issue is I have a 19 and 21 Titleist in the bag. Longest iron is 4 at 25 degree! Have taken 21 out so have driver, 3 wood and 19 degree rescue and then 4 ron
I’ve dumped the 3 wood for a five have a 3 and 4 hybrid and then into five iron etc. about ten yards difference between the 3 and 4 but a lower flight on the 3 which is useful into wind.
I'm 1 of those Dummy's that uses 3 hybrid & a #5 Wood, as i seen approx 15 yards difference, which works for my game ! After see ur video, i'm thinking of trimming my 5 wood shaft to 3 hybrid length + 1" & then Swing Weight it to D-3, & hack-on
I play the Rogue 3 wood and hybrid and absolutely love them... Don't get to use them a ton but love them regardless... This was a very interesting video as I used to have a 5 wood in my bag but decided to work in another wedge for gapping and the 5 wood wasn't even getting used... That said I never put much thought into the difference between the 5 wood and 3 hybrid... My hybrid is so easy for me to hit I couldn't imagine using a 5 wood instead. I've considered going to hybrids for the 4 and 5 irons as well as I hit my hybrid so well... Great video James!
The exact test that i was thinking of, i have a Callaway GBB 3 wood lofted up to 17 and a 19 degree M2 hybrid that is great for shaping shots and knock down through trees shots
I have both in my bag. My irons go from 5 to GW. So I have adjusted the hybrid closer to a 4 iron and the 5 wood fills the gap between three wood and hybrid quite well.
As always, great info and analysis. I actually have a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid in the bag and use them for different shots altogether. The 5 wood is for fairway shots and long par 3's. The 3 hybrid is for rough and shots that need to stay low with distance, like under tree branches and off the fairway from bad tee shots.
Have to admit that I gave up on both 3 woods & 5 woods years ago as the longer shafts (42" - 43") just seemed too cumbersome for me. I am currently playing an Epic Flash 3H set at 17* loft and an Epic Flash 4H set at 20* loft (both are 41" long), before transitioning into my 4 iron at 22*. loft. The 3H is my 3-wood replacement for second shots into par 5's, and although I sacrifice some distance, I'm usually in the fairway. My 4H is my 3-iron replacement and is used for long par 3's (200'ish yards). Thanks for the informative videos - I enjoy them a lot!
Great review James! Would have really enjoyed if you took those two out on the course and actually try them out of the rough. Anyways I agree that it‘s much easier to hit a Hybrid out of the rough. Glides much better. The thing is that the courses I play at the greens are in good shape, but really soft. Therefore it doesn’t really make a difference whether spin and descend angle is a little lower and flatter with the hybrid. I would think this is the case for most golf courses. The places the likes of Rory plays at, greens are just superfirm. That‘s why they play 5 woods to get that extra spin and higher apex. Also worth mentioning here is that pros that carry 5 woods often switch it in favor of a utility irons once they play links, softer greens or wind is a bigger factor. Most amateur golfers don‘t do that. Therefore I still believe to the very most golfers hybrids are by far the best fit. And while many argue that pros don‘t use hybrids I can only partially agree to that. If you look at the pros on Tours with lower club head speeds you will figure, that a lot of them are actually playing hybrids. Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson to mention two of them. Only maybe 3-4% of male golfers have faster swing speeds compared to them. anyways. Can‘t be too wrong using hybrids then...
I’m just old enough to have played competitive golf before there were hybrids. I loved them at the time and have gone back to it from time to time ever since. That said, there is no question that from a standpoint of versatility and possibly even forgiveness, the hybrid is hard to beat! I’ve had at least one hybrid in my bag for years ....and at times more. Currently, I have one hybrid in my bag, a Titleist 818h2 in 19* which is sandwiched between my 3wd and my 4i T-MB. It would hard for me to give up the ability to muscle out a hybrid from deep rough or, for that matter, a bad lie for the sake of a 5wd. Great video James! Very informative. It’s nice to have my own prejudices confirmed from time to time! 😀😀
I was always a long iron guy. I have a 7 wood and 3 hybrid both at 20 deg. I have knocked the hybrid up 2 deg and the 7 wood down 1 deg. Gapping is brilliant. As i get older this set up has me probably playing and more importantly enjoying golf more.
I carry a driver 3and 5 wood and a 4 hybrid then my irons start at the 5 they all serve a purpose n find the hybrid better from the rough and the 5wood for tees and fairways but it wouldnt do us all to be the same would it
I used to smoke my woods. Last two years I have the yips with the woods so went 3H, 4H, and 5H. Now I set the 3H to 17 degrees and average 230 to 240 (260 when pured) so it replaces a 5 wood but close enough to 3 wood distance. Gives me the opportunity to add an addition wedge in the bag as I have 5 - PW.
I took out my 5 wood and replaced it with a 3 hybrid. I also replaced my 4 iron with a 4 hybrid. As a 14 handicapper I get a more consistent strike, I use my 3 wood much less off the fairway. keep the ball in play more whilst sacrificing those occasional dream shots.
I replaced the 5 wood this year with a 19 degree hybrid. The 5 wood would turn into a very high weak slice sometimes. I took the 4 and 5 iron out the bag as well and added a 22 degree H4 and a 25 degree H5. They are so easy to hit.
Results about where I thought they would be. I pulled my 3 wood a while back, I sill have a 5 wood in the bag. I have recently gotten a full set of hybrids. I am finding I can hit 1 with the driver and 1 with the hybrid, and I am usually making stroke 3 with a wedge.
I use both, and also have a driving iron. Epic flash 5wood, sub 70 4 hybrid, sub 70 5 hybrid, sub 70 3 utility iron. Plus a 5 iron. Took out my 60 as I have a low bounce 56 that can be opened up for extra space at the top of my bag. I've found having more ball flight options from 200-240 had really helped lower my scores and gives me way more confidence on long par 3s and reachable in two par 5s.
I just have to say James, your content is amazing! Every time I ask myself any question about my bag or my game, there it is: a video of yours about exactly that point and telling me exactly what I needed to hear! Amazing!😂💪🏽 Keep up the great work Sir!
I went from double hcp to single hcp 10 years ago when I dumped 3-5 irons for hybrids. Easiest clubs to hit. High and straight. But I also play a 5 wood instead of a 2 hybrid. It all works for me. Hitting long irons are a young man's game!
Great comparison. I think the only thing missing was comparing the descent angle. Tour pros use the 5 wood because the height and and descent allows them to access and hold areas of firm greens. Also, gapping has to come into play. sometimes the hybrid is just too low and doesn't spin enough and doesn't separate enough particularly if someone also uses a 4 hybrid. Would love to see you hit your longest iron and 3 wood first then fill in one of the two.
Yeah, I have 3W, 5W G400 I got as a set with my 1W G400 this spring for Father’s Day. Got an 4H Epic flash. Liked it enough to get 3H Epic Flash, but was using to replace 3-4 irons from my older set. Now I got a full NEW set 3irons-PW, so now with my wedges 52, 56 and 60 I plan to play irons 3-PW irons. Will need to decide if I want to swap out a wood with a hybrid or just stay the course with woods. Think woods at start since I have played them well and hybrids were originally just to replace long irons I want to now play with my new set. Eh, at least I have a lot of options now. 😂
Recently purchased a G410 5 wood (currently set at 16.5). Goes about the same as my Mizuno 19 degree hybrid. Even the good shots with the 5 wood....just don't seem to travel as far.....and it should. I also have another Mizuno hybrid set at 15 degrees. I get more distance with the lower hybrid than with the 5 wood. My plan is if the ball is rolling out at all....go with the hybrid. Winter time I'll probably drop the low hybrid and hit the 5 wood more when the ground softens up.
I have both, ‘07-ish burner 4-hybrid, and an equivalent year cobra 5 wood 19 degree. Hit both very well so haven’t replaced them. Can’t hit my 4 iron at all so took it out of the bag in favor of another wedge. Looking to replace my driver this week, going for a fitting to see what works best
I am 62 years young and do not have the swing speed I used to. So, I have compared the 5 wood to 3 hybrid and 7 wood to 4 hybrid. I put the the 5 and 7 wood in my bag and am happy as can be. Sometimes I carry a 5 hybrid and sometimes not. When windy, iron. Heat of summer - hybrid.
I keep both 5 wood and Hybrid in my bag. On the short par 4’s I like using the hybrid, it seems to roll further than the wood. On the longer par 3’s and par 5’s I like using my 5 wood. Seriously thinking of replacing my 5, and 6 irons with hybrids. So much fun to hit!
Got rid of my 3wood and 5 wood and replace them with a 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, and a 6 hybrid, I hit my 3 hybrid when my driver isn’t working for me, I hit about 230 carry, I got these hybrid to more or less replace my long irons there much easier to hit then my long irons. Great video 🏌🏼
I have recently taking a new approach. I have used a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and 3,4 and 5 hybrid. I am a 12 handicap and am 65 years old. Switching to Driver, 13.5 degree 3 wood, 16 degree 4 wood, 3 hybrid at 18 degrees, 4, 5, hybrid. Closing the gap between clubs and allowing me to play longer holes better. If it continues, I will be happier and lowering my handicap.
I love my 5 wood from the fairway but I’m a (very) average golfer which means I also hit from the rough plenty and my 5 wood is terrible when the ground is not manicured. My hybrid works from the fairway, the rough and out of the trees which is why I carry it. I still have a 3 wood for tee and fairway shots but my hybrid is my “rescue” club.
Play a F8 3 & 5 woods, which are so easy to hit; have great feel, complimenting my F9 driver. Have tried various hybrids over the years, but I got better results from the fairways, accuracy included...
I have just bought a hybrid as I was struggling with my 3 iron and it is between my 3 and 4 iron and I wished I had got one a couple of years ago. I've had a 5 wood for years and wouldn't be without it, as you said James you can use it off the tee as well as the fairway and it's one of my favorite clubs in my bag.
excellent video. the numbers tell the story.I use the Callaway Rogue 3 wood and 17 degree 2 hybrid for that lower longer shot and play the Rogue Heaven wood( 7 wood loft of 4 wood shaft) for the often needed high launch shot from the fairway and escaping the rough.
I have binned the driver as I didn't know what result I would get from one hole to the next. I picked up a 16 deg Cobra hybrid off ebay some months ago and what a difference it has made to my all round game. I generally hit it 230 off the tee or off the fairway and more importantly I rarely miss a fairway.
I carry a Callaway driver plus a 3 wood, 5 wood, 7 wood, 9 wood and 11 wood. My favorite is actually the Rogue 11 wood, very high and soft landing. I use it a lot.
I have a cobra composite 5 wood. It’s 15 years old. I still hit it 235 and it stops on a dime. I love that club. I have a Titleist 910 21 degree hybrid (between a 3 and 4 iron), I hit it 225 and love it. I put the 3 and 4 iron away.
Had a gapping issue from 3 wood to 3 iron never got on with a 5 wood so tried a hybrid this week and was amazed how easy they are to hit fron tee and the deck. Went in to buy the epic flash but ended up striking the g410 much better with more confidence. Came away with 17* and also 19* adjusted up to 20* to replace my 3 iron. Even contemplating buying g410 plus driver love the looks and performance of that too
Love my 5 wood, it’s a great fairway finder for me and is a great option of the fairway or even the rough. I have a 3 wood as well but don’t hit it as high so it’s great of the tee or trying to run one up to a green that’s 240 out
This is a question I've been asking myself lately. I play a 5-wood (~215 yd club), and I love it... but not out of the rough. My 4 iron is also not reliable from thick grass. So, if I mishit my tee shot on a long par 4 or par 5, I normally have to lay up w a 6 or 7 Iron. Not ideal. I may have to consider replacing the 4 iron (~205 yd club), with a Hybrid, but I don't think it'll replace the 5-wood. Love the content James and appreciate all the work I'm sure it takes to put out daily videos.
Just got some new long clubs. I use 3 wood as a driver, 5 wood, and skipped 3H, for a 4 Hybrid. I used to carry a 3W, 5W, 3H, and 4H not knowing 2 of them are essentially the same.
With clubs like the Cleveland Hy-wood at 18* and Callaway Utility Wood at 17 and 19* both with a 41.5" shaft. There is a happy medium between a 5 wood and a hybrid.
I've switched to cobra f6 baffler set at 17.5 degrees and the thing is so versatile ! I can choke down on it out of bad lies or i can hit it 225 yds off the tee on short par 4's or 2nd shots on par 5's. Hybrids are hook city or me!
Good one 👍🏿Just put my 5 wood back in and adjusted my hybrid from 19 to 21, for the reason you said regarding out of the rough. My 3 wood is out and 2 iron in (16.5*).
Hey James, I came upon the video on fairway vs hybrid. Also a much younger and a bit leaner Mr Robinson. This would be a good topic with the current clubs like Callaway Rouge, Taylormade Stealth, or even the Cobra Radspeed or LTDx.
Excellent video. I carry a 5 wood at 19 degrees. I carry 22 and 25 degree hybrids, they are great. Every 17, 18, 19 degree hybrid I have tried cannot hold a candle to the 5 wood.
I have recently changed the upper end of my bag by relinquishing my 3 wood and 5 wood, adding the Cleveland Launcher Halo 16 degree and 19 degree hybrids. These hybrids are very easy to hit and the distances are slightly longer than my 3 wood and 5 wood. Note that my 3 wood is 17 degree.
I have both a 5 & 7 woods in the bag, 3 wood stays home. When I started golfing fairway woods were no bigger than hybrids now days. I have played with Thomas Golf at725 hybrid set 24-50 degrees for many years. For some reason this year after coming across a never been hit set of 2008 Cobra S9 irons 6-gw and Cobra DWS 3,4,5 hybrids they have gone into the bag. Something about them I can hit higher, straighter and farther than any of the new clubs on the market.
I have the Callaway Epic collection the 3 and 5 wood I also just recently purchased the 5 hybrid I enjoy hitting the hybrid more than the wood for sure honestly I can’t get rid of my 3 wood but I can do without the 5 wood now. The club has an extra gear it just fly’s off the club. Nice review
I now use a 2 hybrid rogue as my driving iron!! It has changed my game tremendously!! I’m hitting it 230 to 240. Confidence off the Tee is key!! Even mishit shots are still in play in the first cut as opposed to being in the junk/trees with a mishit driver.
Can’t hit driver, so I used 4 iron or driving iron off tee, but now love 5 wood, so much easier to get good contact, I also use a 5 hybrid out of rough and fairway. If anyone else struggles off the tee then I highly recommend 5 wood. Great content JR.
James I have a 18 hybrid which gives me a lower flight of tee, and I use it around green, What I'm asking is could I use a 5 wood at 18 degree as well as hybrid, for different situations as I tried a 3 wood and it goes to long off tee and close to driver,
My hybrid is lofted a little higher to put it between a 4 &5 iron. I found it easier to hit than the 4 iron so it replaced that. The 3 & 5 wood are still in the bag...but I honestly barely use the 5 wood.
I play a ping g410 2 hybrid set at 17 degrees and hit it more accurately than my fairway woods. And since my average drive is 320 total distance I can get buy with no fairway woods and a extra wedge. Its helped me tremendously
Hi James, I actually bag them both. Hybrid does help with tricky situations. Then the 5 wood just offers me more forgiveness and more consistency from the tee box and fairways.
Same! Exactly the same! 3 Wood off the tee when I need it. 5 Wood off the deck and low punches. 4 Hybrid as a 210 club. 5 Hybrid as a maneuverable 195 club.
Driver, 5 wood, 9 wood for me. I’m replacing my 5 iron with a 5 hybrid. A 3 wood is a waste of time for me because I would only use it off the tee and my driver is reliable on tee shots. As a short hitter, it’s never too much club!
Me too. Exactly same set up. My irons however are single lengths. 5 to Lw. When my driver isn't behaving, I will put her in time out and use my 3 an 5 w off
I've always had a 5 wood in the bag - I have the Ping G20 which is awesome. I haven't carried 3 & 4 irons for several years and replaced them with hybrids. Now I have a great mix from tee / fairway and rough which has made me much more consistent. Thanks James
I recently went back to Callaway Xhot hybrids after trying the latest greatest - that 4 hybrid Xhot became one of the best clubs in my bag (including a hole out from 185) and I consistently hit it well. I have the 3h and 5h, also, which are also excellent, but I had that 4h specially shafted, while the other 2 have manufacturer shafts. Instead of buying a new hybrid, I'm going to sell my most recent hybrids and buy new shafts for the 3h and 5h Xhots. It's crazy, right? But these clubs inspire confidence. The ball flies off the face (imo), the ball flight is great, and I can work the ball both ways.
Enjoyed the video!! What do you think of a bag layout of Driver 10.5 M6 (lofted to 11.5) 3 wood fixed at 15, 5 wood fixed at 19, hybrid that’s adjustable but at 21 currently. I hit the 5w about 200y and the 4h about 180y. 5i is longest iron in bag. Have a PW in 43, GW at 48, SW at 54, LW at 60. I’d appreciate the help and insight. Trying to set up bag for the season!!
I must be old school I have the matching Epic flash Driver, 3 wood and 5 wood. I love them personally my 3 wood is my go to if I’m struggling with the driver. I’m interested to possibly adding a hybrid instead of my long iron.
Great job James..I personal like the hybrid over the 5 wood.. What I like to see is hybrid vs the new driving iron.(close to the hybrid look but more like a iron..new from Taylor made ..so sweet
Always best to have plenty of hybrids and a 5 wood in the bag. Mine are now Ping G 425 vintage. Hybrids help out with very difficult lies that sometimes are not appropriate for a wood. I believe in a good mix of hybrids and I mean several.
Good video James I used to use a rescue but struggled out the rough so I now use a ping 400 crossover 3iron which I hit a lot better out of rough and fairway still struggle to hit it off a tee strangely enough
I rather the long iron. It may be psychological but I tend to favour irons overs woods and hybrids. Subconsciously it's in my head to use the long irons and hit em well when i am having a really off round of golf.
Havent played a Hybid yet. My 3 and 5 wood were not getting along with me , so i put my 3 iron back in as it was far more reliable. . After a social round today tring a few things i am friends with my 3,5 wood again.
I currently only have a hybrid between my irons and driver. A lot of that is because I don't have a good set of woods. But ideally I would like to have both of them. The 5 wood would have better distance but the hybrid has better dispersion
I just bought a used Ping K15 5 wood with regular shaft. I found that I can hit is about 220-230 max, but I can hit it as high as a dang pitching wedge, even off the turf. Still getting used to it, but I'm hitting a high draw, so I like that. I've been struggling with the driver lately, so tomorrow, I'm leaving it home. Hopefully I'll hit a few more fairways and have more fun. I never was able to hit a 3 wood, but I might have to find a good modern used one. LOL
Awesome video. I currently use a 3 wood and a hybrid. I would consider a 5 wood if I hit it as well as my 3 wood. Haven’t tried one yet but should. Maybe today.
I play driver 44" shaft small head (old progen) at mo have a Cleveland driver but prefer small head 3 wood 5 wood 4 hybrid 5 hybrid then 6 -pw and a 56 I've experimented with all different clubs and this is what I feel comfortable with
G410 5 wood 18.5 degree with 3 wood length shaft. Gives options to grip down and sole profile makes it easier to get up in the air. Much more consistent then any 3 wood I’ve had although I’ve still got a top from the middle of the fairway in me like most of us 😀
Interesting, my 4 hybrid is 21* and length is 41.25 inches and my 5 wood is 18* and length is 41.75 inches. Also have a 3 hybrid that is 18* and length is 41.5 inches. The extra 1/4 inch in length between the 5 wood and 3 hybrid is not an issue. I do get about 10 total yards more from the 5 wood and as an older golfer the 3 hybrid is launching much lower and flies in the air less distance.
I have the ping g410 sft 3 wood lofted up. I am thinking either a heavenwood and or hybrid. Going to TXG next week to do a fitting to find out what is best for me.
Great video james as always. This is something I've been toying with myself lately as driver and me have stopped working. Been trying all sorts in the top end of the bag to help solve this. And really enjoyed the video when you ramped up the 5 wood
I’m using the taylormade m4 16.5 degree high launch fairway wood. Love it great off the grass but do find it goes to high off the tee. Perhaps it good video comparing the various lofts of fairway woods. Loving your videos keep up the good work 👍
love my old Big Bertha Steelhead 5 wood, play if from all lies including light rough (depending on lie) and occasionally off the tee on long par 3s. I´ve tried a hybrid a couple of times but didn´t get on with it. On the question of longer shaft/controllability, just grip down an inch, no problem.
I carry both, 5W lofted at 17 degrees (so a 4W) and a 3H at 19 degree. A 4W or at least a wood lofted at 16.5-17.5 degrees is a great compromise - solid off the tee, consistently 225-230 yards and a nicely high launching, soft landing 220 yards off the fairway. My 3H is a little shorter: 220 yards off tee is my maximum ball flight is lower and more penetrating. I have dropped the 3W from the bag as a consequence
I use a 3 wood, then 3 and 4 hybrids. I do have a 5 wood but prefer the 3 hybrid, choosing to give up a few yards on my second shots on par 5s and long par 4s which is what I tend to use them for as a poor shot with the 5 wood tends to be a high slice which is more destructive than a poor shot with the hybrid.
I personally carry a Taylormade M3 5 wood, and a Taylormade GAPR LO 2 iron. Not really how I was planning to set-up my bag, but that is just how the gapping worked out.
Great video again James and enjoyed the head to head, I’m trying a driving iron on Tuesday but I won’t rule out the hybrid, I’ve struggled with hybrids in the past but that is probably because I have never been fitted for one. I’m looking forward to seeing what I end up with
James I used to hit a five wood but now use a TaylorMade M6 3/19 Rescue and find it a better option from the rough and even playing a low shot from a bad lie under a tree line.
I'm a 11 and carry an Epic Flash Driver, Epic Flash 5 Wood and a Callaway X2 Hot 5 Wood then into my Mizuno irons, starting at the 4 iron (love Mizuno Irons). I actually hit the EF 5W 25 yds farther than my X2 5W. Tried to hit myself into the EF 3W on a simulator, but could not hit the EF 3W as far as the EF 5W? My bag is kind of all over the place with 4 wedges (all different brands). Thanks for the video, looks like I can do without a Hybrid for a little bit longer.
I think the 5 wood versus hybrid is less of a question than replacing long irons with the hybrids. I used to love my long irons but as I have got older I have swapped out my 3, 4 and 5 irons for hybrids and get much more consistent results. I swapped out my 5 wood for a gap wedge.
Great content James
As a senior player I now use
A 3-5 wood replaced my hybrid with a Callaway Rouge 7 wood fantastic out of rough and fairways 🏌🏽
I tend to start my round with my 5 wood due to being more confident. My 5 wood is the club I go to when things aren’t going well off the tea
💯
I hit my 5, just as long as my driver. I believe it's because it is somewhat shorter than my driver. More control, and I just wack the shit out of it
I recently got rid of my 3 and 4 hybrids. I went to a 19 degree hybrid several years ago and was happy with the resluts. Have seen similar videos recently comparing the hybrid to the 5 wood and decided to put the 5 wood back in the bag.
I have an ancient TM R5 7 wood and love it out of the rough or on the fairway. Flies high and lands very soft.
After see ur video, i'm thinking of trimming my 5 wood shaft to 3 hybrid length + 1" & then Swing Weight it to D-3, & hack-on
I was asking myself this exact question over the last few weeks. You just saved me a bunch of time testing mate 👍
Thanks for the video I really appreciate it got tons of hybrids just bought the TaylorMade M6 5 wood can't wait to get it out
Have to admit that I gave up on both 3 woods & 5 woods years ago as the longer shafts (42" - 43") just seemed too cumbersome for me.
Amazing!😂💪🏽
Keep up the great work Sir!
I use Callaway hybrids 3 + 5. Love them off the Fairway. Great vlog!
I need to look into swapping my 4 and 5 irons for hybrids as I hit my 3h so well... I wonder if there's something to it
I have both in the bag, about a 20 yard difference between the 2 clubs and another option off the tee.
Currently have 2 hybrids that i have always struggled to hit cleanly.
Am planning to swap to a 5 and 7 wood to replace them.
I'd like to get my hands on epic trio. Driver 3&5wood.
James I have a 18 hybrid which gives me a lower flight of tee, and I use it around green,
What I'm asking is could I use a 5 wood at 18 degree as well as hybrid, for different situations as I tried a 3 wood and it goes to long off tee and close to driver,
My hybrid is lofted a little higher to put it between a 4 &5 iron.
I guess I'm nuts... I carry a 3 wood.. a 5 wood.. a 4 hybrid, a 5 hybrid AND a five iron. I use them all for different things.
5 to Lw. When my driver isn't behaving, I will put her in time out and use my 3 an 5 w off
You might could use a bit of tall grass sod in your test facility. Hard to determine which club digs best in the weeds when shooting from astroturf.

I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum. Pretty new to golf but I have an easier time with a driving iron than a hybrid or fairway wood.
Yeah, but if you play links or windy courses, you need to fly in low, REAL low sometimes, and long irons make that possible!
I love my 5 wood. I'm still working on/struggling with my hybrid. Great videos James. (John Kimberley, Huddersfield).
I game the epic 1, 3, and 5 woods. Love them. I use all three off the tee box depending on the distance. Great show, James.
I play driver 44" shaft small head (old progen) at mo have a Cleveland driver but prefer small head 3 wood 5 wood 4 hybrid 5 hybrid then 6 -pw and a 56 I've experimented with all different clubs and this is what I feel comfortable with
Recently switched to hybrids to replace my 3 and 4 iron.
I’m getting older, don’t have the swing speed anymore to use effectively.
G410 5 wood 18.5 degree with 3 wood length shaft. Gives options to grip down and sole profile makes it easier to get up in the air. Much more consistent then any 3 wood I’ve had although I’ve still got a top from the middle of the fairway in me like most of us 😀
As said before - 1 3-4 5-6 7-8 Cobra F9 but I do have Mashie Hybrids 1 - 5 ie depends on course, conditions and how I feel 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
I have a 5 hybrid an 5 wood in my bag wood for fairways hybrid for rough works for me
Interesting, my 4 hybrid is 21* and length is 41.25 inches and my 5 wood is 18* and length is 41.75 inches.
Still playing a TM rescue 4 hybrid. Looking to replace next year.
Loved my TM rescue 4, but I hit it so much I cracked the face a couple years ago, been trying to find a hybrid I like as much ever since.
