    World of Warcraft Dragonflight gets ready for a January 2024 launch for new patch 10.2.5 which will see the return of Gilneas and new Night Elf Capital Bel'Ameth open and playable... and shared between Horde and Alliance. People aren't happy. We also take a look at a potential whole year of no new raid and ask... will there be enough to do?

    Guys the Bellular joke is literally just that Bel'Ameth sounds like Bell on Meth, hence the HILARIOUS picture of Bell with lots of meth. Ot really is that silly and childish. To be clear, he is not really on meth. He hasn't really let himself go. It was just silly wordplay. There is no beef, all is well :)

    I kind of hope the cross-faction visitor status is a start for that being implemented on other cities. Like as long as you don't have War Mode on, you can visit any city, but still not be able to use their portals or fly paths.

  • @CalamityVirus
    @CalamityVirus 9 месяцев назад +55

    The visiting system in the city also leads into the whole "Removing the faction war" they've been talking about constantly, and given the themes of the next three expansions, it wouldnt be a surprise that they will slowly remove it all together. Its an alliance city, that allows horde to visit. And I'm sure horde will get the same later.

    The problem with Amirdrasil being horde accessible is that Ruins of Lordaeron isn't, and the horde keeps getting away with destroying major alliance cities. (Theramore, Teldrassil), they also got let back into Dalaran despite the fact they abused it's neutral status to aid the horde and ambush and nuke Theramore. It very much feels like the Horde got away with everything scot free. The Horde also got back their lost city first, despite the fact they caused it's destruction themselves.

      The Horde didn't "get away with" destroying Teldrassil, they lost the Undercity to the Alliance as a result and destroyed it in an attempt to kill Anduin and keep the Alliance from taking control of it. The Alliance alsp KILLED King Rastakhan, and tore up the Zandalari capital city after destroying most of its navy. The entire Zandalar story is about the FALL of the Zandalari from power, and the entire Kul'Tiras story is about its RISE to reclaim its power from troubled times.
      The Horde didn't "get away with" Theramore, a whole rebellion started to overthrow Garrosh and Jaina killed a ton of innocent or uninvolved blood elves in Dalaran and kicked the Horde out of the Kirin Tor. Only a couple elves in Dalaran actually knew what happened, and most of them just didn't want to get involved in the drama and potentially die or be exiled from their faction for saying something. The rest didn't know what happened and innocent merchants and citizens got killed and evicted. There's an entire raid for Orgrimmar where you slaughter hundreds of Horde soldiers who let this stuff happen, and Garrosh was killed for his crimes.
      The Horde didn't get away with everything, the PLAYERS did(and players were actively fighting against these things with rebellions later in the story). I don't think punishing players for chosing to play a faction is a good idea.
      The new city being shared IS dumb and its also underwhelming compared to Darnassus, but you've clearly got some alliance favoritism bias going on.
      I'm not gonna argue that the story is worse though, shit is getting boring and preachy as hell.

    Seeing as how Night Elf culture is dominated by Druidism and nature in general, it makes sense that some members of the Horde would be allowed into the new city. Archdruid Hamuul Runetotem for example would be one of those exceptions. I’ve always felt like the Night Elves were always adjacent to the Alliance, allied but not directly involved in its politics, similar to the Forsaken. This means that it makes more sense for the Night Elves to have a little more autonomy and can govern themselves as they wish. On the other hand, the Forsaken can do the same and possibly allow living humans who once lived in the Kingdom of Lordaeron back into the Undercity.

  • @Haalaine
    @Haalaine 9 месяцев назад +13

    I think the London analogy is very apt, in part because, yes, right now Bel'Ameth (and I presume Gilneas) will be the only city(ies) that both factions can enter. But also, those are the only two capital cities that have received major development (yes Undercity is no longer plagued but only the entrance is accessible atm so I'm not really counting it) since the end of the 4th War. Lore-wise, I would feel comfortable assuming that NElfs can walk through Orgrimmar, if while being watched by guards, and Taurens can make a visit to their friend in Ironforge. Neither of those cities, nor any other faction capital, has had major work done on them since the end of the 4th War. Even DURING the 4th, if you avoid military installations most of Boralus and Dazar'alor could be walked around in by the other faction. Whether the other faction SHOULD be able to walk around faction capitals can be a discussion, but I think complaints that it's JUST Belameth (and presumably Gilneas) might be missing that gameplay can't always perfectly represent the actual reality in lore. If Undercity is fully reopened, or maybe Gnomeregan is finally made into a proper city, and they aren't open to the other faction I'll bite my tongue and admit that I'm wrong, but I reckon they will be accessible (if maybe content-less) to the other faction. The 4th War is over and has been for almost a decade at this point in-game, and in Midnight we know Silvermoon will be open and content-filled for both factions. Why would it not be the same for every capital city (once they actually receive development)?

    • @ReikaLady

      @wombatpandaa9774 9 месяцев назад +1

      I would love to see each capital city receive a facelift and allow for both factions to enter. It only makes sense given that the Alliance and Horde are officially at peace now. Especially Lordaeron, because Calia is very cool with he Alliance and the city of Lordaeron was originally an Alliance holding. Personally, on the tippy top of my wishlist for remade zones is the whole of Lordaeron (Tirisfal Glades and the Plaguelands), with Calia and the Undead making some sort of agreement to allow some humans (maybe some with Lordaeron ancestry, maybe some of the Arathi descendants we're going to meet in TWW) to resettle the land in peace. I mean, if you think about it, there are a lot of Undead and Humans that are probably family. If both sides can see past their differences (and I believe there's a novel where some already have), there could ge a joyous reunion in store.

I want anyone who's not allied with the night elves to feel like their forests are hostile and potentially fatal. In short, I want the scary night elves from the Darkshore cinematic. @@jtowensbyiii6018 You pretty much missed my entire point: World of Warcraft is not real-life, it's a game based on an IP built on the idea of player-factions going at war against one another. Of course IRL, we want our leaders to not act like morons (and yet, they often do), to be smart and take decisions that lead to solve all of Humanity's problems, like war, hunger, poverty, etc.
      But then why do we have PvP in WoW, if wars are stupid and should end? Because that's the bloody game! Hence the comparison to W40k. Would you tell me that people who love W40k actually hate story and lore? Because you'd be dead wrong.
      Though, I do hate it when story and lore is written by idiots for idiots. The quality and execution of writing in WoW is low, REALLY low, ESPECIALLY if you compare it to other recent games like, oh I dunno, say the last two God of War games. You listen to the wisdom of characters like Mimir or Týr in the DLC that just came out, compare this to Kalecgos acting like he's Dom Toretto from Fast & Furious. No, I'm sorry, but as a huge night elf fan, I have hated the whole amirdrassil story from start to finish and Bel'ameth is just promising me that I'll have to be reminded of that awful story for years to come and having those Hyjal and Feralas visitors only reminds me of what we *should* be having instead of this awfulness. If Hyjal got updated as a proper night elf capital and Bel'ameth was just a new neutrall/rp flavor town like Suramar or something, then fine, I can just pretend it doesn't exist and shrug it off, but they're not doing that, and so everything that I should by rights like about it as a new night elf home is completely overshadowed by the terribleness that is Amirdrassil's story.
    On that note, I am terrified of the next year and the World Soul Saga because it promises to be heavily story focused...and gang...Dragonflight has had the worst story I've ever experienced in WoW. Now you might counter with BFA, Shadowlands, or WoD, and sure, those were bad, but in a very different way. Those previous expansions were good ideas done poorly, but Dragonflight has just actively thrown canon and all semblances of actual story telling out the window. If those past expansions were good ideas done poorly, then this is bad ideas done slightly better but still pretty friggin poorly. And this same team is the team working on the next 7 years of "heavily story based" content. As someone who used to love WoW's story and lore and world building and characters...I absolutely dread it. Dragonflight excelled in literally every other regard *other* than story in my opinion, which has kept me playing and actually having a good time despite wanting to skip dialogue and cutscenes while I'm playing (something I literally have never done before Dragonflight and this will be the first expansion I don't get loremaster while hunting down every scrap of story to enjoy) I've still had a great time. I'm looking forward to the Azerothian Archives and Delves and any other fun gameplay stuff they have in store...but man...I just want to never ever ever think about night elves ever again because everything I used to love about them has been ruined by Dragonflight.

      Exactly! Well the Anakin meme, but WoW should still be a fantasy game!
      They went so far as to write three books, to try to centralize the canonical universe and have a more secure basis for writing new stories.
      But no, all of WoW's lore became a backdrop to force new expansions, with retcon after retcon.

    I definitely saw how much goddamned real estate there was in Bel'Ameth and thought "you know... that's a lot of real estate for... you know... REAL ESTATE!"
    Housing happens now or never. Yes, I know, that's been the case forever, every expansion, but come on now! We're literally revamping at least two cities in the next two expansions. Instanced housing requires A SINGLE DOOR with maybe a garrison-like instanced approach. That door you pointed out fits the bill perfectly!
    THREE CITIES between post-DF, TWW and Midnight, with a clear and obvious more to come! The Forsaken are obviously getting something out of this too eventually!

    But it's not "parent's and grandparents" though. It's mostly the same people who killed and burned Nightelves, specially since players are the soldiers and warriors, not simply merchants and artists. Nightelves are going to see again a lot of those faces who they witnessed commit murder and genocide against them. Not just "similar" faces, LITERALLY the same faces.
    I think they should go harder than a debuff on the consequences. For example, some remarks from NPCs for those horde members who have done burning of Teldrassil questlines as the walk through the city. Or forcing Horde members to unequip their weapons while they're in the city, either automatically do so when they enter the city, or getting attacked by the guards and killed if they don't do it. Imagine if any Horde member that enters the city with weapons equipped is immediately approached by the guards, and entangled until they unequips them. And they're attacked and killed if they draw their weapons.

      Caverns of Time would be perfect for housing that's coded/programmed the same way as LotRO or FFXIV. At each "portal" the player selects the "neighborhood" (aka layer) they want to visit. The games have dozens of neighborhoods, all identical. That's how they have so much housing - identical layers. Hell, they could even just turn some of the dungeons into the housing template. We could live in a house or apartment in a town like Stratholme, without the poisoned grain. Plop some housing down throughout the bog where some really important character opens or shuts portals and there are alligators or crocs everywhere.

    See, I'm fine with a content drought at the END of an expansion, it's almost kind of normal and it makes sense. Also because people start seeing expansion features on beta's and stuff, so while it's longer to get my hands on new content, it at least makes sense and you constantly get to see what's being worked on. And with it being at the END of the expansion and I understand they're working a larger batch of new content, I'm totally fine to go play a different game for a little while. Whereas with like shadowlands content draught at the BEGINNING of expansion, and I know the world was a weird place at the time, but imo that was the first and biggest nail in the coffin for shadowlands. It really sucks when you want to play the game and are expecting more game to play, and it just . . .isn't there.

They’re going to drown us in content, most of which will be the lead up to TWW in November. So far we’ve had updates every 8 - 10 weeks. So, let’s say 10.2.5 drops on. Jan 9th. That leaves March 12th, May 14th, July 16th, and September 17th for a launch date of TWW on November 19th which gives us new content every 9 weeks. We’re very much in safe hands.

    @TaliesinEvitel Come on guys, the new city is all about sticking to corporate policy and "inclusivity", because this is the message the PR/diversity department at Blizzard wants to send, especially after the scandals. Secondly, they don't want to invest in a big feature that only half of the player base would get to experience. You saying that's justified and manifests basically "confidence" makes you look debriefed on how to comment on the topic by PR. Either this, or you genuinely believe it was done for purely gameplay reasons without second thoughts, which I would find disappointing.

    Forgiveness is all well and good, right up until they do it again.
    And given they've destroyed at least 6 Alliance towns/cities in past decade, presenting yourself as such an easy target to be lucky 7th is really asking for it.
    Wouldn't even need to be a collective attack. There's plenty of undead who'd happily spread the plague just for kicks.
    (Southshore, Theramore, Gilneas, Auberdine, Astranaar (among others) and obviously Teldrassil - though haven't played in a while so might be some new ones...)
    If this is the end of the faction-war though, then it's kind of a bummer to feel like the Horde really did get away with everything.
    There was an occasional slap on the wrist, but it never amounted to anything and always swiftly reverted back to the statis quo.

I want a cold war with leaders who have to choose between pragmatic and popular, to push this story forward that traps us in the middle and allows people to choose a side or no side at all. As a hypothetical Blizzard dev, if I had control over a fated season, I'd weave it intricately into the game's lore. Leveraging our connection with the infinite dragonflight, I'd take players back to revisit each raid, infusing them with new twists and engaging story elements. Imagine encountering dissenting infinite dragons, discontent with past outcomes. For dungeons, why stop at the usual? Incorporate every dungeon from all three seasons, creating an epic journey with both the infinite and bronze dragonflight.

    OK - so I was initially upset about Bel'Ameth being in Dragon Isles, and then I was upset about it being neutral, but the more I dwell on it the more I like what it *may* be a harbinger of - a true world revamp where all the places on Azeroth become part of a unified "base world". Broken Isles and Pandaria, Northrend and Zandalar, Kul Tiras and Draghon Isles, Azuemyst and Qual'Thalas all in one unified World of Warcraft, completed by the time we finish The Last Titan. All past expansion content moves to Chromie time permanently and exclusively as a playground for level-capped players who want something to do, and now the whole world (excluding Outland, Draenor, Shadowlands and Argus until applicable) is free to expand upon in the current timeline, these places no longer stuck in their past iterations but instead updated to represent what has transpired and existing in the now, free to use as leveling content or as the site of future stories. Nearly all cities could end up the site of world quest hubs open to all factions and races.

    Amirdrassil... I like it as a potential home, but I wish that it was part of Kalimdor. I always really loved the difference between it and EK, in that Kalimdor just had a more untamed, wild and well... vast expanses feel. It suits the night elves as many of us came to love them. I don't mind the obvious elven alliance they're playing with at all, but yes... there's always gonna be that small sadness. It's weird since Ohn'ahran plains is one of my favourite zones they've ever made visually, so it's weird to have that sadness :P
