This might just be perfect!! I have a tiny purse I absolutely love, it holds my phone, wallet and keys perfectly. But about 2months after I got we found out we need to carry epi pens for our daughter. And w her pen the purse is way to tight. W this bag I think it would fit perfectly! instead of leaving a finger space on the strap, I think I will slip 2 key rings on the strap when I am placing it. Then when I am ready to sew the strap down I can just slide 1 to each side to hang my keys and sunglasses. 😊
I just made 2 of these.... First one I gave to my 5 year old Granddaughter... with a few mistakes!🤦😉 The 2nd one I just finished and I'm giving it to my daughter.. And I'm happy to say I figured out my mistakes and it looks really good and I'm very pleased with it!! Thank you so much.. I'm still fairly new to sewing and self taught So your patients and careful thought out steps help me tremendously! Virtual hugs and gratitude from Louisiana!!💖💖
Yes, I remember seeing this process on another youtube video and wondered if I could even sew with my machine so I'm watching how you sew. 👏👍 Bright red carabinder was perfect. I love your sewing machine!
I was looking for a very secure way to make a good crossbody bag! AND, here you are. I need it bigger and I’ll put a phone pocket on the front, but, but this is so easy to work with. I have two Bible studies I go to and take my service dog. You can see that it makes for a bit of good management of tools! But this offers the bottom expansion and I can easily add a snap or Velcro closure at the top. I like that the inside is finished without adding a liner and quilting it myself - yes! Perfect. Thank you. ❤️
I made this Tracey! It worked out Very nice . I did it on plan fabric, quilted it, and then did a dragonfly iron on with my cricut to put on front. I also used magnetic snap enclosures. You give such great directions. Nice teaching!!
That cross bag is so cute! I’ll have to watch several times before I make it and I’m hoping to make it for me. I never make myself anymore, it’s always sewing for somebody else. So this one will be for me, now to find the time. Thank you for sharing!
So lovely! After the fun filled day, in my sewing room, I just finished, I get to sit with my hand quilting and watch you work. Thank you for your inspiration and talent!
I loved making this bag with you today. It took you 17 minutes and took me 2 hours! Much pausing and rewinding. It won't take so long the next time. When I turned it inside out, I thought how did I get those corners on the bottom? It was great fun and I will wear my bag proudly on vacation. Thank you!
Hi Tracy. I have seen this technique. Lisa Dopking here in Australia has been making similar bags for years. Hers a slightly different as they have a coordinating lining, and are completely reversible. She doesn’t use any fleece but you easily could. They literally take me 7 minutes to make. The folding technique is so quick and easy. 🌷
Brilliant - just found this as looking for a simple bag to take on a cruise that can hold 2 pairs of glasses - sunnies and reading plus tissues - perfect size - thank you
Your description and the little tips are so good that it encourages to attempt and can never go wrong. Would like to know the measurements for a similar bigger bag.
Hi. Love how this bag is made. Your teaching method of all tutorials is awesome. I am a tall lady and would love a little larger bag. Also a inside divider pocket. I think I would like a magnet or zipper closure. Any chance you might do another tutorial showil any of these. Also , what do you think of sewing with serger? 😊😊
Great video... I made my first bag and it came out perfectly. Stupid question perhaps but will this work with fabric that has a directional print? I'm having trouble visualizing it after all the folding and ultimately turning it right side out.
I love this! I’ve been trying to find an easy crossbody to make for travel. I learned that the cut proof straps have wire inside so will probably make a strap. Thank you soooooooo much! I love the way you teach!
Thank you, great instruction for a beginner, ade this fir a friend. I made the strap from the same fabric as bag and somehow managed to sew it on with the seam facing out 😉 but still very happy.
Hello, I just watched this, and can't wait to try making one. However, I'm a beginner, and I'd like to use a button closer instead of velcro. Do you have a tutorial showing how I'd go about that? Thanks so much
Brilliant. Just one question with the pleat folding does that give you pockets or perhaps better described as dividers? Would love to see the inside. Added to my to do list as it's so cute. 😍
I just made this! It's great, the pleats make a 'box' bottom; which basically means it has a wide bottom. So it's more roomy, takes my phone, keys and meds! I didn't have any velcro (hook & loop) and machined a button hole to flap and sewed on a button. So easy to make, just paused the video, she explained the process really well! (First time I machined a button hole!)
Hey Tracy girl it’s your Sew yeah quilting friend, is there anyway that you can let me know at what point and where I can sew on the magnetic snaps. I am going to make a mock up first but it would certainly save me some time if you already have the answer to this. Because they have to be put on before the bag is assembled
Oh my gosh, how cute is this. I love it. Such a cleaver idea. Great job explaining the instructions. thank you so much. Now I need to get busy and make mine🙆♀💁♀
I have made this purse and just love it. I was wondering if you have a pattern for a wallet with credit card slots. I would love to see how you could simplify this kind of wallet. Since I found your channel, I have been an avid subscriber and viewer. Your way of creating your projects and explaining how to sew them is very easy to follow. I can't wait to see what you are going to do next.
I just finished this project, so happy with the result and tutorial. I didn't quilt but did use iron on interfacing. If it worked out first time with no unpicking did it really happen? 😊💐😊
Wow Awesome! thank you so much for the kind words. There are other tutorials out there on this bag but not in english✅ It was a great opportunity for me💛
Oh this looks beautifully simple. I just fought for days with a cross body bag with 3 zippers. It turned out bulky and odd with the zipper showing when I have the zip open, the corners not fitting great together and the lovely lining fabric invisible. Wish I had seen this sooner.
Once again you have given me the tutorial I’ve been looking for! Just made this but made strap out of fabric. Also sewed the strap down on the side. Now I can take my phone with me all around the house while listening to books! You are great!
VERY cute. OK, I’m confused. With all the pleats, why no dividers inside? I would like to have a pocket inside to keep my phone from getting scratched etc. I’ll have to figure out how to do a pocket. Also, since my sewing machine is stashed and I don’t want to pull it out now, I wonder if I could hand-sew this. ❤️👍🐈⬛
A definite need to try using my vintage Singer Model 404 which I have knicknamed "a the Monster" as it sews heavy fabrics very easily. Thank you for your videos!
Didn't read all comments yet so don't know if this was mentioned... To get the angle symmetrical on your handle, draw a diagonal on each end before you begin placement steps. Then, if you drew the lines in the right direction (ask me how I know THAT), getting both ends sitting at the same angle is no problem.
I love this bag..but I think I would line it to prevent the fleece from rubbing off into lint. Also did I miss how the front flap becomes straight across?
Hi there! That is so cute. A little bucket bag. I have to try this after I finish with my other projects but I think I will use denim or camouflage. I hope it comes out as cute and as well made as yours. ❤
I love it when I saw yourtube. I am going to make it this weekend. Is it ok to make straight line like quilt instead of circle I do not have the tool like yours?
I really liked it I am going to make it a little bit bigger to use as a overnight bag thank you for you step-by-step instructions 😊 you at doing a great job 😀
Make the measurement from the middle longer than the 7" (but you made need longer length in fabric sewn together.) Then Make the 1" mark 2" or more.✅Hope that helps some.
This is really cute. I need to make one for house hunting. But I need a pocket or divider bc I need my tablet to take photos, my phone for Communicatons , a tape measure, and a flashlight. And I don’t want the latter two to scratch the first two. Any ideas where to insert a divider or a pocket? Thanks so much!!!
@@TheSewingChannel ok. I was just thinking about where to sew one on. I think it wd be in one of the 7” sections close to the center, opening facing the center. One side of center wd be the inside, and the other wd be the outside. I think. 🤔 😂 Or else, maybe the side where the inner flap will be; opening facing the flap?
Susan, if I was adding a pocket, I would put it on the end that has the Velcro sewn to it (inside) before the side seams are sewn but farther down so that the top of the pocket is below the top of the longer inside flap that eventually becomes the front of the bag when it is turned through the opening. Anything that ends up inside the bag must be between the end piece that becomes the inside and the long inner flap that becomes the bag front. Dividers could be added between that same end and the longer inside flap. I can think of a few different ways to make those. Already mentioned was making the fabric longer and adding extra folds. Another option would be to sew some fabric rectangles with finished top and bottom edges the width of the bag material and just shorter than the height between the top of the longer inner flap and the top of the shorter flap. These dividers would be lined up with the top of the long inner flap and stop just short of the bottom of the bag. If a single fabric rectangle was made like that but twice as tall, then it could be folded in half for a center section closed at the bottom of that section with two side sections that would connect at the bottom. I hope this makes sense to you.
Ok silly question….what is brand and color name of your fingernail polish? Your fingers look so cute! I love this bag. This is definitely on my to do list. Thank you!
No, it's too "stinkin' cute!" 😉 Nice bag, Tracy! Couldn't figure out how it was going to work out. Was waiting for the inner fabric liner to finally come into the picture. Your pattern was very creative. Another A+ video. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is so easy to make!! I'm now on my 3rd bag! I lengthened mine to 9 inches (instead of 7 inches)🥰 and it's perfect for travel!

I love it😍👍 so cute, must try to make one. If i want to make the "flap" longer how do you suggest i do that??
Suzanne...just lengthen the long piece to how much more you want and then just keep my same measurements of the folds and it should work✅
Saw this pattern yesterday, laid up with severely broken ankle. Just made it from odd stash and it came out really well. Used button for fastener.
Great! Hope you get well quickly! 💕

Fusible fleece only✅

I am going ti try this with pre quilted material I am upcycling. I am also going to add an outside and inside pockets. I cant wait to try it.
I just discovered The Sewing Channel, you are amazing.
I do love a good hack. This is brilliant & I love how you attached the steps and the final treatments made for a very nice, functional bag . Thank you

I love sewing with a serger..typically stretchy items though.✅
Great video... I made my first bag and it came out perfectly. Stupid question perhaps but will this work with fabric that has a directional print? I'm having trouble visualizing it after all the folding and ultimately turning it right side out.
So hard for me to say which way to put your fabric when directional....I always do a "mock up " and then figure it out from there.❤️
I love this! I’ve been trying to find an easy crossbody to make for travel. I learned that the cut proof straps have wire inside so will probably make a strap. Thank you soooooooo much! I love the way you teach!

No I have no button tutorial...just follow any regular button instructions out there and you should be ok😀
I think I'm going to try making this bag for my new mini camera (with some sizing adjustments). Thanks so much!
Brilliant. Just one question with the pleat folding does that give you pockets or perhaps better described as dividers? Would love to see the inside. Added to my to do list as it's so cute. 😍
You could perhaps make the piece of fabric longer and figure out the position for more pleats and add "dividers" in it✅
@@TheSewingChannel this bag is so cute I going to have to try to make one. Thank you for sharing your talents
The large pleat is the front of the bag. I had to watch it twice to gather that. I like the idea of a divider though.
I assumed that with all the folds it would end up with built-in pockets or dividers, so that is disapponting. Otherwise, cute bag and easy to make
I just made this! It's great, the pleats make a 'box' bottom; which basically means it has a wide bottom. So it's more roomy, takes my phone, keys and meds! I need a 1 seam for cell phones.

What a neat idea. So you could actually make it wider too.... Okay have to try this one. Great video!
Yes you can!
I love how your mind works! So easy, but with such detailed instructions. Freaking cute little bag. Thank you!

Cute, what does the inside look like???? But with all your folds, didn't you make some kind of pocket inside??
Same as outside✅

Make the measurement from the middle longer than the 7" (but you made need longer length in fabric sewn together.) Then Make the 1" mark 2" or more.✅Hope that helps some.
Also if you use wider fabric, say 1/3 yard instead of 1/4 yard, the bag will be bigger.

And I don’t want the latter two to scratch the first two. Any ideas where to insert a divider or a pocket? Thanks so much!!!
Susan..someone else asked the same thing...you would have to make the fabric longer and then figure out where to add the pleat for a pocket✅
@@TheSewingChannel ok. I was just thinking about where to sew one on. I think it wd be in one of the 7” sections close to the center, opening facing the center. One side of center wd be the inside, and the other wd be the outside. I think. 🤔 😂
Or else, maybe the side where the inner flap will be; opening facing the flap?
@@TheSewingChannel I’m trying to get my head around it.
This is brilliant. Never seen this method before. Thank you sew much
You are so welcome!💛
What did you do to box the corners? Just fold them up and tack or something else?
If you use the exact same folds and such that I did in the video then the boxing of the corners take care of themselves✅ It's like magic I suppose✅
