The reason the Joker keeps escaping is a flaw with the business of comic books, not in Batman’s philosophy. Asylum escapes are just as unrealistic as the super powers. The Joker is responsible for the Joker’s actions, not anyone else. He keeps escaping so that more stories can be told, and that’s all there is to that.

Having read the entire comic, I was so disappointed in this adaptation. This was an easy slam dunk and they blew it! Cramming the whole thing into an 80 minute movie was impossible. And yes, it missed the whole point of what was examined in the original story. When it was announced I just assumed we were getting 5 movies with each one covering one year. An Invincible style series would've been best, but that was fine. What we got was unthinkable and an injustice in and of itself made even worse by the usual overall quality of the DC animated films. Rob basically went with the abused wife trope of "Well I made him do it, it was my fault" which is just BS. Yeah there is a lot of injustice that gets done because of the system, its slow and takes to long but thats the point of justice vs vengence.
The Justice System is meant to be a little slow, because it allows time for things to cool down for cooler heads to prevail. For evidence to be gathered, etc. But what Superman is suggesting is an immediate system build on immediate punishment of what is seen as guilty. We know DAs have pushed for the trial and conviction of innocent men because the crime was so big news wise that they HAD to get someone behind bars to calm the public (See serial killings, serial rapists, etc) in Superman's world you are looking at that all the time. Every person accused suddenly become just guilty because we need someone behind bars so that Superman does not mass murder the city.
Superman by year five is planting nukes in cities to destroy them for not fearing him enough. Yeah thats not a slippery slope that is a fucking cliff as you (op) said.

I feel like wit that Kill Bill line, as cool as it was, can only really be applied to a flawed Superman like this. Superman in a general sense although always had the powers and the kryptonian heritage, is who he is as a hero because of the lessons taught to him by humanity( the Kent’s, Lana, etc.). As a fan of these stories I want more people to be aware of and see them. Unfortunately I dont think DC has made a good animated adaptation in a long long time. If they dont just miss the point they end up making changes for the sake of making a change so it's different regardless of whether the change makes sense or makes the story better or interesting.

In my personal opinion, while the New 52 line up of DC animated films had some good films like Batman: Son of Batman, Death of Superman, Justice League War, Batman vs Robin, Constantine: City of Demons, Batman: Bat Blood etc... I wouldnt say they had some of the best films either as the New 52 line up had some pretty odd choices for their characters and their personality changes, not to mention most of their stories were quite formulaic and generic such as Teen Titans vs The Justice League, Batman: Hush, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Teen Titans: Judas Contract, Justice League Dark Apocalypse War.
Although this is just my personal opinion, I actually prefer the previous set of original DC animated films from the early 2000's, and even recently with their latest DC Rebirth animated films like Superman Man of Tomorrow, Justice Society World War 2, Batman: The Long Halloween Part One and Two, all of which I find to be very good and each possessing interesting ideas, themes and new premises. Gladly Injustice was not part of this new line up because I also found the film to be redundant and formulaic as well.
I do like some of the New 52 animated films, don't get me wrong, but I honestly prefer some of old films like Under The Red Hood, Batman Dark Knight Returns Part One and Two, Green Lantern: First Flight, Flashpoint Paradox, Superman vs The Elite etc... and I really like the newest line up of Rebirth films they have.

If anybody should know, this is the second time Batman has let the Joker of the hook after a catastrophe event, like that of Metropolis:
    SPOILER ALERT!
In INJUSTICE: YEAR ZERO, Joker searches and obtains an artifact that allows him to take control of people and heroes; if killing Lois and destroying Metropolis was to break Superman, killing the entirety of JSA was to completely destroy the moral compass of the Superhero community, and Joker has achieved that in the most horrific way possible like Jimmy Olsen, taking control of the heroes and using them to kill each other and keep in mind, the JSA members are already too old, and Joker took advantage of that, while also using convenient means such as using weapons to shoot and stab them; and at the end of the comic, despite what Joker did, Batman recommends that he be arrested while Superman agrees reluctantly, having a bad feeling of such a course of action, since the Joker has already crossed a line for such a deed.

My issue is yes it does detract away from the actual story, you have to be represented the story. I also don't agree on the Batman is responsible for the Joker's killings. Not innately, you can argue that something had to be done with the Joker, even if that meant death but you cannot make an organization chosing who lives and who dies. Because there will be a decision that will have to be made, and would you really want an organization like the Justice League(Godly figures, one of them a superpowered alien, an Amazon who is pure fighter)or Avengers deciding who lives and who dies.
It would just be walking into a future disaster. I love OG superman but he cannot force his will on people in the way he does in Injustice. It didn't stop "Ok no more killing of innocent lives." It became so much more then that, and that is exactly Batman's god damn point. People like superheroes really shouldn't(IMO) enter the killing area. It gets easy and its the least resistant way to do it.
They did half ass the movie but I can't honestly say I would be ok with Superman ruling over us. He's in an emotional state and his judgement is fully compromised. Even in the comic Superman is like "One, just one." Did it end there? Hell to to the no. Always starts with one.

Nicely put..the story in this universe backs up that Batman was right and it can't stop with just one..a point Rob doesn't address..the temptation to kill another person is to great esp when you have the powers of Superman and no one can really stop you. I would say just think about the the beyond awful acts we hear on the news( the killing or abuse of children for example) now imagine upon hearing that you have the power of Superman and the speed to find these ppl seconds after hearing of there terrible acts..you telling me you wouldn't kill them right after finding them..that's what Batman meant by it never ends with just one.

I had always wondered how a movie might be resolved, since the comics are ongoing and there was an Injustice 2 game after the first. I figured there would be things added and removed to make that happen. But, yes, it would definitely have required a series to get the depth and tone of the source material. I don't think it's a bad movie, but the things you mention would be welcome improvements.

Batman is an example of Immanuel Kants moral philosophy known as the categorical imperative. Specifically regarding the universality of our actions without contradiction. Basically, if Batman kills the joker, it allows a moral loophole for others to kill. It also means Jokers actions, are never Batman’s fault. They are only ever the fault of joker who committed the act.
The categorical imperative is a widely used moral code, not just for Batman but real world issues. Batman is just usually written to represent it. You don’t have to agree with Kant but that’s where it comes from.
The interesting nihilism of the joker is to show people the flaws in their moral codes because he believes there will always be a contradiction in our morality and always tries to expose that to support his nihilistic worldview.

1:30 Superman’s “certain people need to be killed” is an argument for Superman to kill himself.
Batman’s argument of “nobody should have the power of life or death over any other” is an argument for Superman to be incarcerated in the hopes of redemption.
If the possibility of irredeemability exists, then everybody has the possibility of never being redeemed. If redemption is always a possibility, then everybody deserves a chance at it.
Let’s not forget that Superman MURDERED a child: Billy Batson. He did so while other “heroes” stood and watched.

"If the possibility of irredeemability exists, then everybody has the possibility of never being redeemed. If redemption is always a possibility, then everybody deserves a chance at it."
Well those two aren't mutually exclusive. And no one in the story sees them that way. Everyone deserves a chance of redemption. The question raised is what you do with those who shows through their actions that they cant be redeemed.

      @@Koooo4 Exactly my point.
Superman killed The Joker and took The Joker’s place as the irredeemable one…so, by Superman’s logic, Superman should kill himself.
While The Joker may have used Superman to kill millions of children, Superman killed one face to face as he burned Billy’s brain out through his eyes.
That is Joker levels of evil, right there.
If you think Flash’s use of the slippery slope argument was faulty, then explain what Billy’s crime was that constituted an immediate execution with no trial.
If you ask me, that execution was EXACTLY the slippery slope that Flash alluded to.
Billy didn’t speed in a car. Billy didn’t smoke cigarettes. He didn’t break ANY laws.
His ONLY crime was to DISAGREE with Superman.
Where exactly is “disagreeing” on the “slippery slope”?
I would say it’s somewhere near the bottom, wouldn’t you?
The only thing fallacious about Barry’s slippery slope argument is that he didn’t take it far enough.
Superman took it farther than even Barry suggested he would.

    • @Koooo4
      @Koooo4 2 года назад +2

@@josephcoon5809 No. His slippery slope argument wouldnt become less fallacious based on whether he turns out to be right or wrong. The argument is fallacious regardless.
Superman killing Billy isnt even part of the argument Barry was making. Superman wants to get rid of guns because they can be used to kill people. Barry then mentions cigarets which makes no sense for his slippery slope argument, as cigarets primarily kills the person smoking, and arent used to directly kill anyone else.
Speeding is a better argument as that regularly does kill people other than the person driving.
"Disagreeing" wouldnt even be on the slope at all. It's completely unrelated to the argument being made by the Flash. Billy wasnt killed because he was a danger to people. He was killed for questioning Supes authority and probably for using Lois' name while doing it. He was killed to teach the rest of the people a lesson.
*"Superman killed The Joker and took The Joker’s place as the irredeemable one"*
um, what? How would killing Joker make Superman irredeemable? At that point he was absolutely still redeemable. You make it sound like Superman believed that anyone who did even one bad thing were automatically irredeemable.

As soon as I heard the length of the movie, I knew it would suck. You cannot fit allllllllll that EPICNESS into one single (short) animation. Injustice in the comics is an EVENT.

Lets just remember that Injustice origin is on a videogame by NetherRealm Studios/WB Games. And in game we already had a history mode, way before comics showed up.

This is how I felt about the Superman: Doomsday film. The Death of Superman through Reign of the Supermen with his ultimate return is probably my personal favorite run of comics because it's what got me reading them and I just loved the Connor Superboy as well as Steel. Doomsday was a massive disappointment because of how little of the story it told. The recent Death and Return of Superman was a huge improvement but had its own share of disappointing things. Think I just need to dig into storage and reread the comics.

I just like how Wonder Woman saw the footage Superman killing those teens/Joker followers and then it showed, unlike in the comics when she wasn’t able to

I felt the same way when animated planet hulk had came out. You get so invested in a comic book and when the movie comes out the changed when made the book

Tyranny is a subject that very few are willing to take a hard look at because each of us has an inner tyrant that we are afraid of. That is what always intrigued me about Injustice. That is part of Batman's issue, there is an inner tyrant that he is afraid of which feeds into the critique of humanity that runs through Injustice. In stories, we always want to picture ourselves as the hero who saves the day instead of the tyrant hellbent on destruction. Anti-hero stories strike a chord with the human spirit because it is a way of addressing our inner tyrant while still picturing ourselves as the hero. The Joker movie was so wildly popular because we didn't watch a man go insane, we watched a man become consumed by his inner tyrant, that movie aloud us to stare our inner tyrant in the face from a safe distance.

Thank you Rob. There u come again putting my thoughts into words. When they 1st announced the animated movie, I knew at least I had hoped it'd be a series like u said. And there was too much to just cramped in just 1. So that's why I felt the way I did and how they missed the core of a such beautiful peice which is the "injustice". And even b4 watching your video, I had made up my mind thinking whatever u have to say my beliefs were just that and like a sane person u came to the same conclusion like many like myself. And I'm a DC fan above all else and that movie was a failure, I mean I mostly gave up on their live actions but the animated was the ish to me but they botched it.

First video I saw of you and it's really good. Great review. Your points are valid and you have good examples and references to back up your opinions. Though I think you speak too fast it's still a good video.

I completely agree with Rob. The worst thing in this movie was killing Flash and trying to make WW act like Superman was going too far when in the actual story she kept saying he was in the right.

I always say this it's all batman's fault, even when Superman put all these villains in a prison away from people, batman does not want that. The Batman, keep saving the joker , and putting him in jail, he escape and keep killing people. Did Batman, no kill the joker, in "killing joke" for raping Batgirl?

I really wanted to see superman join the yellow lantern Corp. That would've been a great cliff hanger for a sequel, or have the spectre pop in

The Batman vs Superman part was basically BvS all over again. Ending the fight because of a common enemy. They really never learn.
