    This is the single best line analysis video I have seen in YT. Well done and thanks!

    In this test you have to look at the stated breaking strain in JPN and EU, much closer to what the results show us! Unfortunately the diameter is still extremely off!
    Really looking forward to see some other lines, like the Varivas Max power PEx8, Asso PE light game x8, YGK x braid upgrade x8. Those are some lines made in japan, claiming to use the ‘gou’ measurements as they’re intended.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Год назад +3

      You actually raise an extremely valid point there in relation to the Europe and Asia ratings and the fact that they are almost exactly the ratings that we obtained in our tests. In future we will call that out specifically and make a comparison to those numbers if they are available for a given line. We focus on the US ratings as we see that's what most people refer to when purchasing a line, also that almost every line is rated this way and very few have the JPN/EU ratings published.

      @@thelinelaboratory in US they talk in Test Break what is actually knot strenght and in EU they use MAX break what is Linear strenght (what you are measuring over here)

    Great tests!! Would love to see a light line ( 10-20 lb) test of daiwa JBraid grand!

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Год назад +2

      Great suggestion! It certainly would be interesting to see how it compares to some of the other lines in that class as the Grand seems to be a very nice line. If we can get our hands on a sample from a viewer we can add it to the top of the list for testing and comparison.

    I just went to top shot a length of 20lb Daiwa X8 braid onto my 10 lb X9 Berkley and found that the 10 lb Berkley line was thicker than the 20 lb Daiwa. 😮
    I don't remember the 10lb being so thick, so I measured it with a micrometre.
    It measured .007 thou, but a couple of metres further down it measured only .005 thou. 😮
    I've never noticed that much inconsistency in a line before.
    Talk about irritating.
    No wonder I was able to cast those heavy sinkers without bust offs.

    Hey, great videos, love the channel. I dont know if you take requests but there is a line out there that has some really crazy claims - the Berkley Whiplash 8 - Dia: 0.06mm 10.9 kg, Dia: 0.10mm 14.8 kg, etc... They also claim its perfectly round, so not measured flat? There are forums our there that talk about it and people have estimated that a 0.06mm line is closer to 0.22mm... So way off. Would love to see you shed some light on that one :)

      @@thelinelaboratory sweet that’s be great, thank you, you conduct these tests very methodically and efficiently, unlike a lot of other videos I’ve seen which basically compare apples to oranges for all that it matters. Especially with the diameters, your video on this video on berkley x9 and the spider wire braid ultra cast, they confirmed my feelings on those lines, those diameters were way to low and too good to be true for me to believe. And in hand those braids definitely felt and looked thicker than sufix 832 and even plain original power pro. Maybe you could do plain power pro too? Not to ask too much but I think it’s a very good baseline to compare others too since it’s so widely used everywhere

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Год назад

      @@HATINTHEKAT As you pointed out, most diameters are way understated based on our testing, which makes it hard to know how much you can get on a reel. The more we test the more I am shocked about how prolific this is. I will add the OG Power pro to the list also and grab some if I come across it. 👍

  • @geiZels

    @the line laboratory > BIG MISTAKE you are making here is breaking stenght, on the packaging is US size and this is knot strenght not as you measured. you measured linear line strenght. what is very in line with the EU sizing.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  11 месяцев назад

      I have heard this before but Is this categorically stated anywhere? Even line manufacturers that I have spoken to have not specified this as their criteria. This claim aside your welcome to interpret the numbers I get in any way you like. Knot strength is so variable in type and the way it's tied that I see huge differences between them all. If your claim is correct, which I am not discounting, is it standardized on a specific knot type?

    Heck of a test. Great job. In your experience, which braid was closest to advertised diameter?

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks! Currently the Varivas High Grade PE 0.8 is closest out of all the braids, measuring at 105% of quoted, Followed by Silk Ocean PE3 at 106%, the Varivas High Grade PE0.6 at 108%. At the other end of the list is PowerPro SuperSlick v2 at 240%.

    218% above claimed diameter? What the living hell. I have this line and I dread to think how thick it is and I never even checked. How do the manufacturers measure this do you think?

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  9 месяцев назад +1

      From what I have heard, very few manufacturers actually measure them directly. Some assume a diameter based on some calculation, and I can only imagine there must be many other methods used to come up with a random number. Some lines have a huge variation based on their construction, which does make it challenging. The diameter discrepancy is the biggest issue that I have encountered.

  • @smhjnr1873
    @smhjnr1873 Год назад +3

    i purchased 0.14 mm (20 lbs) from amazon and unfortunately i have read some reviews after purchasing, it is actually bullshit. actual diameter of 20 lbs braid is more than 0.30 mm which is complete scam. ok, i know actual diameters of braids are more than what companies say but this one is more than double.

    • @thelinelaboratory
      @thelinelaboratory  Год назад +2

      Yep that is not uncommon, I have tested 4 braids so far that are >200% larger than their quoted diameter. if you look at the "Braid Testing Summary" table here: linelaboratory.com/braid-testing-summary/ and check out the column "Diameter Quoted vs Measured (%)" you can see how wide spread the underquoting of diameter is.
