    Daiwa J braid x8 (the standard in performance and value as far as I'm concerned) amzn.to/3f3dyGj
    Fireline Ultra 8 (gotta learn some different knots and don't use it on a baitcaster) amzn.to/3gmR5UM
    Maxxima 8 (pricey, smooth - only negative is it's insanely limp) amzn.to/31LyA8w

    Glad to see you like it too, love this line a lot! Bought a spool of the 20lbs on a fluke because I got a discount when I bought my 4k Spheros. Great together for my river jigging in a heavy Technium AX. I'll switch a few of my reels over to X9 when I need to rather soon.

    After using power pro for about 10 years, I tried berkely x9 and x5 two seasons ago. I love the soft and silky feel, smooth winding, thin diameter and have no problems with strength. X9 is now on all my spinners and x5 on all my baitcasters for the past 2 years. Adore it. Caught a 32lb striper I 20lb test. Used exclusively in salt water. If it's good enough for John Skinner its definitely good enough for me. Even more confidence in it now, with your endorsement. Thank you for another great, detailed, informative video.

      In fresh water or salt? With current and rocks nearby? Any way, how any line "behaves" falls on the angler. Did they spool it correctly? Overspool? Underspool? Did they twist it all up while spooling etc. What type of reel? Do they care for their reels? Anyway, like I said, I've had no problems so that is "saying much."

    Really appreciate your vids very thorough and great info, true line tests and tips. Really has helped me make informed decisions re braid choice. Re the graphics - as a (UK) angler the norm for us if we are right handed is to use a left hand wind reel. That way the rod is a true extension of the right arm and we do not have to switch hands for casting and retrieve which seems to be an unnessesary extra step that I see so many US anglers make. Of course this would make the graphics read correct but that’s just a by product if you are a righty try and use a left hand wind reel I am sure you will find it so much more efficient!

    Great review as always! Do you have a recommendation or favorite for an inshore braid for a small bait caster, mainly plastics? Currently running pro spec 30lb and J braid grand. I don’t like the J braid as it is too limp and seems to unravel. I like pro spec but distance is less than J braid, but everything else is better. Tried 20 lb 832, too much digging, good 90% of time, then that “tick” hesitation from a dig..... grass and oyster type fishing. Thanks n advance @tackleadvisors

      20lb power pro slick v2 may fit the bill...I haven't had an issue with it on a baitcaster (freshwater) Has proven super durable and handles spectacularly (I hate super limp braid..j braid being at right at that not too limp spot in my preference)Slick v2 isn't as limp as j braid...and it's a tight weave that doesn't break down or open up. I found onyx seems to stay like new the longest which was strange to experience.

    This is a great and timely topic. I live in So. California and fish mainly inshore and out of a kayak. I use bait casters as well as spinning gear, depending on my mood. Depending on conditions, I'm fishing in kelp or dragging artificials over and around rocks. All my reels are filled with 30-50# braid. Question #1, how long do you leave braid on your reel before putting new on? Question #2, do you use hollow braid? I'm starting to fish more regularly on large sport boats for tuna,and yellowtail and that seems to be the trend. Are there other videos showing results/ info on the hollow core braid?
    In advance, thank you for your insight. I always enjoy your videos. Jim

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  4 года назад

      Hey Jim, glad you enjoy em... Honestly there isn't a formula as far as how long braid lasts... Plus in many instances you can reverse it essentially doubling its life (although I wouldn't if tangling with fish that are more of a war than a Hookset and a scrap. Hollow core is excellent... I've used it for more than just trolling.... But the downfall is its only really useful if wound on extremely tight and you're splicing direct or via loop to loop. And splices take time... I don't knot if pamet fisher still makes splice crimps but that speed up the process... My serves generally use a bow serve tool to prevent creep. I've seen some methods using rigging floss and such but they can bind and undo a splice if it catches in the guide frame... Splicing some wind ons ahead of time and splicing and end loop makes most sense from a practicality standpoint... As you can tie a Bimini of you break off entirely then use that loop to pop on a wind on.... Then there's the PR knot.... Which really performs wonderfully and is as strong... It's only downfall is it'll form to the spool and shock... It absorbs shock extremely well but splices are the best.. If you make a bench rig to clamp the leader and serve with the splice centered it makes for a much quicker way to tie up lots of wind ons. Learn a double wall splice and how to make a spliced end loop. And see if you feel the time is worth it for what you're doing... I haven't spliced any hollow core south of 60 (I heard there are lighter splice able braids now... Back when I was into it 40 hollow wasn't spliceable... Best bet... Pop for one of the 20$ bobbins on amazon... Test your knot and see if that works.... Oh and I've blown up a few spliced rigs casting due to guide wraps... Something to consider as well

      I like onyx v2 the best.. I'm done with j braid grand... Had more abrasion issues and failures on 1200 yards worth of it than any other line I've owned.. I had zero issues with standard x8. X9 is excellent but I think power pro keeps its form a bit better after lots of use. Where x9 gets really limp.. Pick one then after a while try the other... Both excellent.. Just preference really

      Gliss and understand its break strength isn't overstated like most braids and knowing special knots are needed......it also doesn't last as long....Original power pro flies......so does maxcuatro...something people often overlook...x9 is a very good caster as well..so is super slick v2.....also you can gain distance by using an fg or pr knot and sizing down the diameter of braid while still geting the break as other knots of higher diamter.

      blood and uni are very similar..I used to use them interchaneably 20 odd years ago....blood to blood was great to tippet joins.....cold tie it tooless when I was 14 :) I wouldn't rely on it for braid to leader if you needed max break......If my 10 year old foggy memory serves me correctly...it's only like a 40% abs knot in braid....which is below the alberto fg gt pr etc.....ONe thing good about the blood....it's consistent as all heck.....no way to screw it up...When I learned the improved bristol...i immediately thought of the blood once cinched tight.....(bimini to improved bristol is a cool looking knot) Saltwater sportsman said it's the best (in 2010) now they say they can get a 100% knot in a 12 turn bimini or something ridiculously low like that (which after 20 tries cinches down like a uni doing it their way) Hope that made sense #tequilaposting :)

    Try a red Phillips knot. I put my line and knots to the test and the red Phillips is smaller than the Alberto, faster, and easier. It's a good knot. I only use the FG, Alberto, or red Phillips. I can tie all quickly I just think the red Phillips is up there in knot strength and ease of use. And a very low chance of error.

    Seriously one of the worst lines I had in my hands. Bought it for light fishing (perch) Talking about diameter 0,08 . The line "decomposes" when squashed (brand new from package - not as mentioned in this video) If it gets tangled, it is impossible to untangle without damaging it. Give up, just cut and to the bin. I would definitely not recommend it to anyone. Honestly.
