My Favorite Ultralight Fishing Line Yet! SPRO FINESSE BRAID

  • I am constantly getting questions about what ultralight fishing line I like best. After testing several varieties on the market, I can confidently say that my current favorite is Spro Finesse Braid. It costs a pretty penny, but I genuinely feel it is the best braided line I have tried yet for light line fishing. It is very strong and smooth, plus I have never had any wind-knots or random breaks while using it. The fact that it is offered in two high vis colors makes it even better!

    While the Spro is my top choice, it should be noted that Daiwa J Braid X8 Grand is also really good in my experience. The only reason Spro ranks higher for me is because I have randomly broken J Braid a few times. For budget line, I like Trilene Sensation or other co polymer options.

    Caught a 5.5 pounder after work today. Not on my Mule gear but it was on ultralight (4 lb leader) with a Zman Microfinesse TRD Ned rig. That's my first bass over 3lbs on ultralight. It's only relevant here because Ethan is the reason the Ned rig works for me.

    Fireline Nanofil specifically has that wire-like stiffness. I experienced the same thing and returned my spools to Tackle Warehouse. Fireline and Fireline Crystal aren't wire-like but they do have a flatter shape than a multi-strand braid.

    • @FishAnything

      I need to play around more with the various Berkley options. The Fireline ultra 8 carrier was what I used and I felt it had way too much memory for ultralight fishing

    I have to agree with the J Braid Randomly breaking! I’ve had the same thing happening to me! I’ve had it happen twice today!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 месяца назад

      It’s likely some kind of abrasion issue. Seems odd that it happens to so many folks

  • @midwestfischerman
    @midwestfischerman Год назад +2

    Ethan buddy, if you find Berkley Fireline Crystal on sale I suggest giving it a try. It's extruded solid superline, so there's no fraying of multiple strands when you trim it. Likewise, as a solid piece of line it's much more ABRASION RESISTANT than traditional braid. For fishing Great Lakes boat harbors inundated with zebra mussels, this is a HUGE PLUS.
    Another feature is that it's supposed to be translucent underwater. It seems slightly translucent underwater, but it is a very visible milky white above water, so I'd call it hi-viz. Moreover, the 6lb and 8lb test are the same diameter as comparable multi-strand braid, meaning it's THIN, and probably hard for fish to see even if it's only slightly translucent. I always use a fluorocarbon leader.
    I even grabbed some 4lb test Fireline Crystal for ice fishing, but I didn't get to try it out this winter. As you know, traditional braid absorbs some water, which is problematic when air temps are below freezing. Fireline Crystal seems to alleviate that problem.
    Ethan buddy, if you ever try Fireline Crystal in a video shout me out.👍🏻

    Spent a Saturday 2 weeks ago wearing out the dinks and nice gills with my brother pond fishing. They were digging the 1/16 ounce Beetle Spin on the old 6# Cabela's copolymer line for my brother and the 6' light Bass Pro Bionic Blade rod. It's my older panfish jig rod but has the butt end weight system so fish all day and no fatigue. I broke in the new Lews Speed Stik Laser Light and 500 series reel. I went with 5# Power Pro and it's working out well. Small swim jigs, Beetle Spin and casting jigs it's really nice in the 5'6 one piece. Nice budget friendly combo. Putting the Spro Braid into the memory bank for future purchase though. Power Pro has been good to me, jury is still out on the bargain Reaction Tackle braided line. Haven't tried anything but 6# micro for now. Blessings Ethan, sorry the perch have to unload on you. They're saying you started it 😅😂😅😂😅 🎣

    I've always used cheap braid. On my UL combos I use 6lb braid from Calamus and Reaction Tackle. I've had some of it spooled for two to three years and I've never had a single issue out of it. The color fades a bit after a few months, but that does nothing for performance. It's never once broken on me, and I also don't have any problems with wind knots or anything else of the sort. I don't think I've ever spent more than $10 on a roll of braid for my UL stuff.
    The only thing I don't like about braid that light is it's a royal pain trying to retie a leader when it's windy.
    Pink is a color I haven't tried before. Color is largely the reason I use braid, I can't see mono most of the time. I'll have to check out pink the next time I'm shopping for braid.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Год назад +1

      Perch yogurt lmao 😷
      So I agree that some of the more cost effective braids are fine to use for most applications, but the reason I like these higher end products for ultralight fishing is due to the type of gear I prefer to throw. When fishing sub-1/32oz lures, the lower priced braids typically don’t cast near as far in my experience. The j braid or spro are much smoother lines with lesser memory so they handle tiny presentations well. If you primarily fish 1/16oz and up, you’re probably just fine with the slightly lower tier lines.
      Just some of my thoughts from my experiences though!

      @@FishAnything I regularly throw the Northland Tackle Mimic Minnow Fry 1/32 and Joe's Flies unweighted (no clue on the weight of these things, incredibly lightweight). While I don't get bombing casts with those, I can still definitely fish them, even sitting in a low kayak.
      I'd love to be able to try out some higher end gear, but I simply can't afford it. So I have to make work what I can.

      As long as the rod company makes them quality, I don't see a major issue using a 2piece rod. For example, my Dobyns is 2 piece and it is unnoticeable. The only time I don't like a multipiece rod is when it either makes the rod noticeably heavier or if the parts shift while fishing and your guides don't stay in line.

    Is there any reason in particular you use Yo Zuri hybrid as a leader over fluorocarbon of the same diameter? Usually, everyone I see online uses a Braid to Fluoro setup or just straight fluorocarbon. I'm a bit curious because I have my Sedona 1000 spooled up with 6lb Pline fluorocarbon and I'm wondering if there would be an advantage to using a copolymer line (Yo Zuri hybrid, Pline Fluoroclear, etc) next time I have to respool? Or to use it as a leader line for braid over fluorocarbon. Anyways, all the best my man!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Год назад +1

      Great question! If I was bass fishing, I would go with a fluorocarbon. For ultralight, I have had less luck with fluorocarbon. It seems quite brittle when you use 4lb test or lighter. Copolymer has been extremely strong in my experience, and it is very budget friendly. It has enough stretch and abrasion resistance to give the braid a lot of "cushion". It just feels most comfortable for me.

    • @FireGeck33
      @FireGeck33 Год назад

      @@FishAnything My experience with lighter fluorocarbon has been about the same. I tried a spool of Seaguar Blue Label 4lb and I could break it apart with my hands.
