Halloween or not, we NEED more bauhaus
Yes, will try and do more soon...!
So agree!
@@acpg God in an Alcove would be my request... if you're looking for suggestions.
@@acpg cool one of my fav bands
@@blueskyredkite "in the night "
I knew shit was gonna get serious when you got the whisk out!
Jimmy Page didn’t even use that technique 😂
🤣🤣🤣
When Adrian has the whisk out, you know it's about to go down.
Daniel ash is a genius in atmospheric guitar work. You would answer a lot of prayers out there explaining more of his work. I have been a fan since 83. More! More Sir!!!
YESSSSSSS, can you have a look at another bauhaus track, "in the flat field" maybe
Yes, quite possibly - this has put me in the mood for more Bauhaus - will add In The Flat Field to my list!
Saw them at Hammersmith Palais in ‘81. It was a life changing experience. Fabulous band. The notion of Goth didn’t really exist. We saw them as part of a scene along with Killing Joke and Joy Division. They clearly loved their roots Reggae because supported by Talisman. This was no accident because saw them a couple of years later supported by Amazulu.
Great choice Adrian. I am really digging the diversity of your instruction. Nobody else is doing stuff like Holiday in Cambodia by the Kennedys, or Bauhaus, or The Cure.
Loved that. Especially the fx stuff. Creativity above technical ability has been a mantra I've stuck with since first picking up the guitar.
Me too. Largely because I can't play for toffee.
@@matthewpollard2843 Some, if not most of my favourite records would be by musicians who could be judged as not that competent on their instruments Mathew.
@@harrisonstarkey My name is spelt with two ts. Matthew. If you can learn to spell, you can write, if you learn chords, melodies, and scales you can play guitar. I don't know who you are listening to but Bauhaus were competent, and other bands Adrian features here, hence the lessons.
@@matthewpollard2843 Apologies for missing the t off your name. I wasn't implying Bauhaus couldn't play I was responding to your comment about your own abilities.
@@harrisonstarkey If you watch more of these videos, he teaches different chords and voicings, scales, melodies and harmonies, everything from chords to lead guitar. That's why I watch him.
Fantastic!! Always love learning from you. Could you do more Bauhaus in the future?
Love and rockets too would be amazing.
Passion of lovers!
@@xmoyle9253 thank you!
@@xmoyle9253 thanks man :)
@@_TheWarChief_ "haunted when the minutes drag" would be @#$%!!
And now the next should be ... The Sisters of Mercy! 🦇
Yes... 'Alice' would be nice!
A lot of great memories thank you. Daniel Ash, David J Kevin Haskins and Peter Murphy.
Incredible playing so grateful to have this side of music and the guitar being represented well on RUclips
This song was like the benchmark of alternative coolness in the early '80s.
Awesome lesson! There are not that many Bauhaus lessons out there, and none of them focus on how to get all of these sound effects and the feel of the songs. Thank you, Adrian!
Ah you've reached the Holy Trinity of goth band lessons now. Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Cure and now Bauhaus.
He already did Bauhaus.
Catherine Deneuve & David Bowie , The Hunger will always be this songs greatest moment
Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed it. I'm currently learning guitar and your beginner course was very helpful! I'm also a huge Bauhaus fan, so more Bauhaus lessons would be really appreciated. Thanks again Adrian!
Thanks Nikos. Glad people are still watching and finding my beginners lessons helpful! Will certainly try and do more Bauhaus as this video seems to have gone down well.
OMG.....this is the _coolest_ lesson *EVER* .....I could just listen to the performance 👍👍😎😁
The absolute best Bela Lugosi's dead guitar lesson:):) Thank you:):)!!!
Definitely more Bau Haus! And yes please another Halloween special this week!
So good Adrian. No one quite like you on RUclips. Just bloody marvelous.
Masterful recreation of the delay effects!
Love your choices so much! Third uncle and nerves would blow my mind.
That's a great spooky song from Bauhaus and you play it nice, congrats for it. Anyway, you should play Dark Entries
There is no doubt you are the best, thanks a lot for you great tutorials. Saludos.
Cool lesson, I was a college radio DJ in the 80's at KUSF in San Francisco, did the graveyard shift and I played this song at 3am all the time. My favorite Bauhaus tune, which is indeed Halloween themed is Lagartija Nick. I would love a lesson the that one.
nice, we need more bauhaus!
Daniel Ash is probably the most underrated guitarist in the history of rock.... love his creative ideas
You are wonderful, Adrian. Thank you for taking the time to make this video! Helpful and informative as always.
... the bats have left the bell tower... And the kitchen sink!
I must say, Adrian, that when I saw the plaid shirt worn for a goth tune, I feared you might be about to launch a grunge/goth hybrid rock upon us; glad to say that any such fears on my part were groundless. The whisk was a nice touch, as was the masterful echoed scraping, et al. This would've been a nice Halloween special...
Been waiting for this one. Nice spooky goth vibes for Halloween
Fantastic stuff. This really takes me back. What i always found cool about this song is that it is as goth as things get, but set to a bossa nova rhythm.
Yes, who'd have thought the ultimate goth track would be based on a classic clave type rhythm! Works amazingly though!
The Mission would be a great lesson next. "Wasteland" or sisters of Mercy "Marian"... Thx Adrian
Tower of Strength // Temple of Love FTW
I love that book "Feeding Back." Perfect book for guitar nerds.
Mind blown. Bravo!
I have found myself returning to this tutorial several times over the past year and would love to hear/see more Bauhaus. My song of choice would be Hollow Hills for its haunting melody and atmospherics.
Wow, thanks! Bauhaus were my band in capital letters when I was.a teenager, and I think Daniel Ash is a unique guitar player.
More Bauhaus please!
The B side in Bela's single, "Boys" is also great, and fun to play
Noice upgrade on the video quality! Makes the whole experience even better.
Thanks - I'm never sure if anyone really notices this stuff. But my new main camera is a big improvement on the old one. And this is actually the first video where I've had 2 cameras running simultaneously for parts of it. Always trying to improve the video side of things, but it's a big learning curve!
Beautiful! This is one I’ve certainly been waiting for, thank you for the perfect delivery.
Thanks for posting. Daniel Ash is such a genius guitar player.
This exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.
Man I love this one lol, thanks! Damn you really rock this man!
This is great stuff. I'm glad I found it.
Yes12 inch blue vinyl owned.... great track again fella
Can we hope for The B-52's stuff in future? I think it's great in many ways!
Oh yes, I'd love to see 'Give me back my man', tried to figure that one out once, with just medium success.
@@DerEchteBold hey, I tried this one too,but love too see Rock Lobster
dirty back road !
Private Idaho would be a blast, too.
Yesssss. Though note that Ricky Wilson rocked a baritone guitar, presumably tuned to B, so it may require transposing the songs to play with a regular guitar. (I acquired a baritone a year ago, so I’m ready!)
So cool , when my sons were little , at Halloween i would play scary stuff for them . They loved it !
Great ! This is my favorite song for looping! I Discover new sounds every time!
More Bauhaus please 👍idea for Halloween. The Cramps - Teenage Werewolf lol. Or the Monster Mash.
This is more than awesome im sure Peter Murphy would agree :-)
Much love for yet another ESSENTIAL track!
That’s a really fantastic lesson. Thank you very very much for the way in which you broke everything down. 👍😊
Bauhaus onBBC Whistle test is a classic, daniel Ash hits his guitar then walks off stage in a temper! i remember watching that as it happened
Bonkers. Nice way to stumble in to the weekend. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic!!! Please more Bauhaus and please do a Halloween song again this year! How about "She´s In Parties"...that´s kinda two birds with one stone.
I'm diggin' Adrian's _Thurston Moore_ costume.
Thank you so much ! How about some early Christian Death ? Rikk Agnew's guitar sound and style on "Only theater of pain" is definitely worth a tutorial.
Yes, will check that track out...
@@acpg Only Theatre of Pain is the album title. Just the fact that Rikk Agnew went from The Adolescents to Christian Death shows his range. Two completely different but hugely influential bands.
I died when I saw the whisk. Thank you for this wonderful information
I haven't heard this song since my art school days..great tune...thx
Your like the dream guitarist for any post/punk/alt-rock band.
Nice work! Back in the vinyl days my roommate had a 45 rpm version of this song that he would play at 33. The effect was also quite spooky.
Thank you for the book recommendation.
That was quite scary in places but in a good way! many thanks Adrian!
Thank you! I always felt like bauhaus was underrated compared to other post-punk bands. Your videos never disappoint
Red lorry yellow lorry! Talk about the weather
Oh yes! Criminally underated band.
Yes, great idea. Must revisit that track this week, been ages since I heard it
I played on the same stage as them in Milan, they were great fun, we were supposed to go on before them but arrived late due to delays at Manchester. They were the first song in when we got there. They didn't mind at all and were great fun.
More Bauhaus, Birthday Party the Damned Adrian!!
That was brilliant, dubbing on the fly!!👍
Thanks for covering this song, been wondering about the delay stuff ages. Also, the book recommendation is appreciated!
Fun video, thanks ! Reminds me when we discovered that a TV remote pointed at pickups can get some interesting results when the buttons are pushed.
yes, that's a good one. Think I could do an entire video on this kind of thing. Electric toothbrushes are good , drills. I used to use a toy ray gun which was amazing, but I lost it ...
OMG, Adrian I’m so glad you recognise Daniel Ash. As I think you say, he seems to have been missed off the list and overlooked as an original and ground breaking guitar artists.
Unfortunately Bella is always used to illustrate Bauhaus, but while there’s a lot of cool effects in there it’s not as exciting as every track on their debut LP ‘In The Flat Field’ or the second ‘Mask’
Then there’s everything in his second recording band, Tones On Tail. Then he started recording some fabulous twelve sting melodies in his third band Love And Rockets.
A true guitar hero!
Thank you
P.S. should all be played on a black tele though ;o)
Yes, absolutely. Realise Bela is the obvious track, and whilst it's great, it doesn't really contain the most interesting Daniel Ash guitar work. Will think about doing some other tracks soon - and maybe look at some of his work in his other bands too!
He’s pulled off some great stuff in the past but this takes the cake.
Good proof you shouldn't be afraid of digital replicas of analog or tape delays. This sounds great.
A simply great choice for halloween, love love this track, the Sound track of the Bell lives on through you!
Great tuturial thanx, how about ghost riders in the sky for hollowe'en?
Oh, and more Bauhaus please... 👍👍👍
Awesome! Great gothic episode. Maybe something by The Cure again for the Halloween special?
Fascination Street
@@matthewpollard2843 good shout
Yes, Halloween or not, always a good time for some more Cure...
Definite yes for more Bauhaus
Northampton's finest! Amazing track. Caught them live in 2006 when they reformed. Didn't dissapoint. Daniel Ash et al in imperious form
I must agree with you on the assessment of the "musicality " of experimental sounds, looking back, I had some good nights out at "underground " concerts, Let's not forget a somewhat influential Thin White Duke was part of the scene
you mean Les Rythmes Digitales?
@@matthewpollard2843 possibly still in nappies at the time?
Brilliant video my request is for The Sound next ☺️
I got a feeling something GROOVY will be presented next week!!!
Your post-performance commentary is spot on. Sonic explorations are where it's at. Yes more postpunk or goth for Halloween. God in an Alcove is very guitar centric and has that single coil twang (Bauhaus). Much love to that one!!! Silent Hedges is another Bauhaus classic. 12 sting might be required for that full effect.
Yes, excellent suggestions. May well try and look at more Bauhaus soon!
That was brilliant! Thank you
Brilliant, Adrian - love it! Great fun
I used to play this in the last band I was in, we were gothic folk, all originals, except this and the devil's dancefloor by the flogging molly's.
Cheers Adrian 😎🎙🎸✅
Great choice!!
Very Cool as Always. Don't see many bauhaus lessons. Would love to see more. If you are looking for a Halloween song how about The Dead Kennedy's? Halloween of course. I don't recall ever seeing anyone play that one. Enjpyed the Wisk!!!
I bought this delay pedal just from watching this video.
Another great lesson I love your eclectic tastes.
Takes me back this one theres been some great British experimental music. I love throbbing gristle The cure cocteau twins the mission fields of nephilim etc etc along with dub Augustus pablo lee scratch Perry Aswad UB40 etc etc.
Your channel is one of my favourites love your choices breakdown and enthusiasm.
hard to believe that bauhaus isn't as legendary as they should be. one of my prized possessions is a guitar pick Daniel Ash used when Poptone played in Santa Cruz.
Brilliant Adrian! Have you heard the track Third Uncle by Brian Eno (covered by Bauhaus)? A lesson on that would be awesome.
The Belle Epoch is probably the best delay out there these days. Daniel used a Watkins Copycat delay in the early days which I think was certainly used in Bela. I bought the TC Electronic Alter Ego because it has the Watkins Copycat setting. Thanks for great clip
Adrian, more Bauhaus clips please 👍🏻 ( She’s in Parties, 3rd Uncle, Lajarita Nick and Hair of The Dog would be great )
Excellent ! I noticed you nailed perfectly "public image" too, that would be awesome if you could do Poptones by PIL, superb Keith Levene guitar part, keep on doing those fantastic videos, cheers from France, Fred.
Excellent stuff.
Without a doubt the most enjoyable guitar tutorials on RUclips. How about “Time Warp” from Rocky Horror Picture Show?
I've seen Bauhaus in concert at least five times in the early eighties and never once did I see Daniel Ash play Bela lagosi's dead using an egg whisk.
Lo sbattitore mi mancava😂.
Sei un grande. Bravo!
The smile at 13.50 Thanks for the lesson. Bauhaus is fun.
Always something different from the others! Like your stuff so much! ;-)
Nice egg beater! 😂 Brilliant lesson!
Perfect time of the year for Bauhaus! How about She's in parties?
Thank you !
