Hello Everyone! I've started a second channel where I learn lots of exciting new skills. It's been lots of fun to work on!
You can check out the first video here: ruclips.net/video/J48RSgyBgOU/видео.html
Speaking of goth rock, any chance of some Sisters of Mercy? Temple of Love maybe? This Corrosion? Lucretia My Reflection?
Wow, very interesting Channel!!!
No he really sounds like that.
Even without singing, staying upside down for such a long time is a performance in itself ! He's amazing !
LOL. Can you imagine how high Peter felt after hanging upside down for that long?
@@johnst.baptiste3664 Or how high he got to let them rack him up.
He was staying upside down for 15 minutes (If i'm mistaken)
He sounds the same standing up. One of the most unique voices ever.
And almost the same as in studio...40 years ago. He's amazing.
@@danpitzer765 Yes even his live stuff in recent years even though he's older and not in great shape anymore.
@@brendanobrien6943 Yes! Saw him 3 years ago. He's still got it!
This is the original Band-Lineup! Daniel Ash, the guitarist, is Unbelieveble.
David J as well! 😎
Peter Murphy became solo, and the guys creates Tones On Tail
@@mr.dudafel8723 And Love and Rockets.
I think everything called 'Bauhaus' involved all four original members. Mad respect for not fiddling with a perfect recipe.
Ya. It’s all 4 original.
Don’t forget Dalis Car, for another offshoot
From a Peter Murphy Spin Magazine interview…
How exactly does one prepare for performing a nine-minute song while hanging upside down like a bat?
There is a maximum amount of time before you black out; it’s 15 minutes or something. I was okay with that. So I got some hanging boots they use in Pilates exercise, and during rehearsals I got my crossbar set up. The technical difficulty is in the muscles. The vocal muscles are in reverse because of gravity, so you have to teach these new muscles how to sing.
unless he is really a vampire and he is used in this position....😃
Peter Murphy being able to sing and hang upside down at his age is simply amazing.
He was only 48!
@@AKB67UK You've tried it at 48? Or, lets say, 18?
Who would've thought the most iconic goth anthem comes off a bossa nova drumbeat?
I never noticed before... whoa
HOLY CRAP!!! You are so right! I never put that together until you. Thanks!!
and from reggae (more precisely dub)
so technically, is goth a sub-genre of Reggae? xD
@@Mildon44 They were originally trying to do dub reggae when they made this song, they literally started a subculture by accident lol
@@Mildon44 I mean, a lot of goth is actually tom based so it is far more tribal and primal. Goth is really one of the most expansive genres, as far as different influences go. Probably because the bands under the umbrella can sound so different. It tends to be more of a FEELING, although you do look for certain things, flanger, chorus, delay, scratchy guitar, very prominent basslines, etc. But even that is not always present, within electro goth, etc. But the feeling defines the genre for sure. But NEVER the fashion, fuck that.
I just saw Bauhaus live this past Saturday. I had heard Peter Murphy on several occasions before. This last performance was his best. He's aging well.
Where did you see them?
@@RighteousBrother Mexico City
Lucky!
Was it this original line up?
@@hassNpheffer Absolutely, Daniel, David, Kevin & Peter. I don't think they have ever played as Bauhaus with other people.
Made me feel really old. I saw Bauhaus at the London Lyceum Ballroom in 1980 then again at the same venue in 1982!!
Ha! I feel older, saw them in ‘80, last in ‘84 (& I’m the same age as the band), yikes😳!
Considerate yourself as lucky one!I couldn't go to a Bauhaus concercet, yet!
Oh I was there live for this. The chills. The energy. The minute the song started, I saw a solitary bat fly across the sky. No lie.
SAME! I went there just to see Bauhaus. I was right up front. It was absolutely stunning. 🦇 🖤
While not a fan of Bauhuas as much as Murphy's solo stuff, Peter Murphy's voice is still one of my all-time favorites!
The way it can be so full and heavy and yet still somehow manage to float.. Amazing
Cuts You Up is still one of my favorite songs.... The cello and his voice... Sublime!
Yes, this was the original lineup, including David J on base, Daniel Ash on guitar, and Kevin Haskins on drums. They reunited and toured in 05-06, then released their final album in 2008 (an underappreciated masterpiece.)
That they didn't play a single tune off in London last week. What's with that?
Not a big hit, but definitely a cult classic, and most agree, it is the track where Goth crystalised into a recognisable form.
Other good tracks, "Spirit", "Kick in the Eye" and "Lagartija Nick". A very interesting band.
The lead singer is very into mysticism, so I would not be surprised if he does yoga which must help with the breathing.
I might also mention She's In Parties, which is possibly the closest they got to the mainstream.
Other really great Bauhaus audio art includes St Vitus Dance, Dark Entries, Silent Hedges and my personal fave, Hollow Hills.
And Terror Couple Kill Colonel!
Peter didn't write most of the lyrics, that was David J and his depth of mysticism and occultism was a huge influence on the other members of the band. David even wrote a book on the subject. All three of the front members were good vocalist, Peter was just super human with what he could do with his voice.
@@johnzacharias7928 Indeed, but Pete Murphy has between careers in music been known to delve into things like Sufi Mysticism and other esoterica from around the world.
@@jon-paulfilkins7820 Yeah, Im not sure of this but I believe his wife is Islamic. I do know that he converted to Islam and when he returned to sing with Bauhaus he refused to sing the song Stigmata Martyr because it conflicted with his faith. Im a Bauhaus nerd it seems lol. I did kinda lose interest in Peter Murphy at Holy Smoke. He did another great album after that I think it was Cascade or something different but my fave is still Love Hysteria, Holy Smoke was just too commercial for me.
I was 2 people back from the stage at this show... it was freaking epic. Especially with such a long song... there were so many people around me that were just there for Weezer and Coldplay that they had no idea what was happening on stage.
Peter is one of my all time favorite performers/singers. His 1989 album, Deep, has not left my daily playlist since its release as I typically hear at least 1 song from that album each day. I got to see him and Bauhaus live with Nine Inch Nails when they toured together, and they were exceptional. His voice may be aging some, but he's still got it. Thanx for sharing! Loch Sloy! ~Be Blessed
The screams they used to be able to do were pretty ahead of their time i think. Like in stigmata martyr
That is: Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins, and David J. The one and only original lineup.
This is the first Bauhaus reaction Ive ever seen, they have been one of my favorite bands for a long time. I missed out seeing them in '98, my roommate went without me. I was bummed. Ive never seen this performance before. fn crazy to see him hang upside down for so long.
They were great in 1998, especially doing a fucking Dead Can Dance cover, that was amazing. At least there is an official DVD to watch of it.
One of the finest baritones. He sounds spot on even upside down.
My gosh I love Bauhaus! This warmed my cold black little heart. This is pretty much what he always sounded like, being upside down for so long seems miserable lol.
"Release the bats" - the Birthday Party is my batty suggestion
Second 'Release the Bats!'!
Creepy Bossanova! Goth was so new and electryfying! Remember the times. Great Performance! For Halloween you could do more of that like Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, The Cure, Siouxsie you already did, Nina Hagen ,Punk Opera Singer ( Friedhof and African Reggae) is a must!
She should critique Diamanda Galas.
Bossa-nova+dub+sinister vibes
Voice and performance. Peter is still a true showman in a long career. Cheers
When Bauhaus recorded this song, they had been playing as a band for 6 weeks.
Check out the new channel, Roar! here ruclips.net/channel/UCKLCW19mh_w-3TXSliJuM4A
You could watch this 1982 live performance of the same song to compare the vocal performance and I think it was pretty spot on in the version you watched I really thought it wouldn't sound that good when I first saw it but was surprised but maybe you hear something I dont. ruclips.net/video/iTJF0uE2LOg/видео.html
Bat song suggestion: Release The Bats by The Birthday Party (Nick Cave).
You'll have a lot of fun trying to sing that!
That 80’s outfit looks awesome on you
I saw Pete Murphy live after he split from Bauhaus, his Operatic Vocals were Awesome!!
He sang while Dancing like a Ballet dancer and I defy Anyone to try to compete,
Magazines ,,,"The Light Pours Out of Me" was 100% Amazing!! As with everything hes done.
~ this blokes a Vocalist, Poet, and Musician but hey each unto their own.
He had just had a heart-attack and surgery here, so kudos to him...
I saw Bauhaus, the original line-up, at the Electric Ballroom, Camden and again at the Hammersmith Palais for their 'farewell' concert... they were bloody brilliant...he sounds the same any way up...
They've only ever had one lineup.
Peter Murphy. One of my favorite vocalists. Haunting and ethereal.
This song was released when I was in my teens, so I loved it. The ominous bass line and Peter Murphy's voice (yes if I remember correctly he does sound like that when he's not upside down) give this a very creepy vibe.
Yep,this is the original line up of Bauhaus, with of course Peter Murphy on vocals,Daniel Ash on guitar, and the rhythm section of brothers Kevin Haskins on drums, and David J on bass providing that driving constant beat. What an entry though,an amazing performance all around. Saw Peter Murphy and David J here in New Zealand back in 2018,and they were unreal performing all those great Bauhaus tracks. Now,if you want a bat-themed song, why look any further than this very song - it would be amazing to watch you try it upside down.
Gothic David Bowie
I know Robert. Peter has said that David Bowie was one of his idols.
Life long Bauhaus fan. Thank you. Peter Murphy solo is also great.
I was there
OMG!!! This is omg thank you to the person that got this reaction!! I love this so much 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 Peter Murphy!!!
Peter Murphy is Neil Diamond for spooky kids.
Now I want to hear him do Love On The Rocks while Neil does Sanity Assassin, lol.
With heroin, of course, at least back in the day.
I had never heard this song before, the performance is amazing. Reminds me a little of Led Zeppelin. Thanks for turning me onto it, it'll have to go onto my Halloween playlist!
Listen to Peter Murphy’s solo stuff.
Watch the movie “The Hunger” with David Bowie; they use this song in a scene. Amazing stuff.
P.S., these guys are nothing like Zeppelin. Listen to songs like “In The Flat Field” and you’ll understand.
His voice is everything. So very smooth and sexy and deep. He just melts me into the floor.
If you want to listen to more of Peter Murphy’s singing. You should listen to: Cuts you up, A strange Kind of Love, or I’ll fall with your knife
Oh. Also this song was used in the movie “the hunger” with Susan Sarandon, and David Bowie
Beyond excited. More Murphy, please. He's been able to maintain that powerful howl for years. Do Kick in the Eye or Marlene Dietrich's Favourite Poem.
This video just earned you another subscriber! You should check some more stuff from Peter. He's an amazing singer. His voice is showing it's age, but he is still great.
This is the original (and only) band formation. They broke up in 1983 but reunited in 1998 (first time I saw them live). They still reunite sometimes for live concerts.
I met Peter 5 years ago and he's not only a great singer/performer. He's also a great human being.
Looking at the band members I am pretty sure that is the original band. That is definitely Ash on the guitar.
Yeah it was all original members on this tour.
@@karlrobinson3608 They've never toured without all of the original members and called it "Bauhaus". When Murphy and David J toured together, it was billed as them doing Bauhaus songs, not AS Bauhaus.
Peter Murphy is one of the greatest performers of all time! A complete original ❤🎃
Saw them live this year at Cruel World and they are as good as ever. Best show of the festival.
Release the bats by Birthday Party, starring Nick Cave.
A vocal analysis of Birthday Party era Nick Cave would be interesting: ruclips.net/video/a6BX2Y5C83I/видео.html
This is a good one, but my favorite Bauhaus song is "She's in Parties." It's worth a reaction. Another song for Halloween is "Found Love in a Graveyard" by Veronica Falls.
I’m an “In The Flat Field” fan myself.
You've done Siouxsie, now Bauhaus. It's time for The Cure!
When Pete Murphy first sang this all those years ago he recorded it in one take and the music was also recorded in one take. The whole 9+ minutes. Also it was the first time he had ever actually sang in public so to speak.
One of my fave bands of all time, I was at this and they were beyond stellar.
Can u do Sisters of Mercy? They are another 80’s “goth” band. The singer has an interesting voice.
For a song to still be so requested and influential, some 40 plus years later... says something. Any band or fan who has every rocked all black and related to Winona Ryders character in Beetlejuice, knows this song. Death metal to emo.
Lydia is a goth princess in Beetlejuice. I discovered the goth scene in 1986. I was once called prince weirdo.I actually liked the name.😂
The first time I saw Bauhaus, it was in a theater with seats in the entire auditorium. When Bauhaus came on everyone rushed to the stage. Me and my friends took some acid before the show so we stayed in our seats, put up our feet and watched like they were performing just for us. It was an incredible show!
Ha! That thumbnail! I love it. Fantastic band all around 🎃
Bela Lugosi was the actor who put Dracula on the map in 1931. He played the part on stage for three years before the film. His performance has influenced not only future actors portrayal of Dracula but all vampires. So the upside down Peter Murphy is more than just a homage to vampires but the man himself he is singing about.
"Raised By Bats" by Aurelio Voltaire. "Batty's Rap" from Fern Gully, performed by the late, great Robin Williams.
Nice October choice! Peter, Trent, and TV on the Radio did a cover of this together, was so awesome! Thank you for the review on this one!
Bat songs = Release The Bats by The Birthday Party (Nick Cave's early band) :-)
You're amazing and bauhaus is one of the best bands I've ever seen live Peter on vocals in incredible
Plus, they're touring later this year! Mexico, NYC and Pasadena, CA next May. I think they all live in or around L.A. now as well. Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Bauhaus, Peter Murphy solo, Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets and David J solo. Bit of a fan. Do check out Peter's solo releases, some truly beautiful songs. Same with L&R (Daniel Ash sang/guitar primarily for them). *sigh*. TY for a thoughtful reaction! X
Such coincidence, they just had a show here in México last week!
Thank you for this one! Very cool, and all of Bauhaus sound great, whether upside down or upside up.
Expect it was a different sort of challenge for Peter Gabriel to sing "Solsbury Hill" while riding around the concert stage on a bicycle.
I saw them live back in '97. Blew me away. Peter's voice live (while "not" upside down) was truly amazing. One of the best concerts I've seen. I wasn't expecting that. *sidebar* How can you not know Peter Murphy's voice when your voice tells us you're from the UK???!
Well, I probably would not have expected to see Bauhaus on this channel, what a surprise!
It does appear to be the original members as far as I can see.
Some of their offshoot bands are interesting, Pete Murphy did some great solo stuff, the others were in bands called Tones On Tail and Love And Rockets at various points. I'm sure Love And Rockets are still around.
Daniel Ash is a criminally under valued guitar player, capable of some fantastic atmospheric stuff and very aware of his own dynamics and that of the band, very restrained and kind of non traditional playing. Also a superb rhythm player.
It's an older video, but you can watch him sing it standing upright with Trent Reznor and Tv on the Radio. There's definitely a difference, but that could also just be the fact that it was like a decade earlier.
Great choice with Bauhaus! Great video and information as usual!
A terrific vocalist. Although constantly compared to Bowie, his voice is surprisingly similar to Neil Diamond’s. It’s a pity this is billed as just Peter Murphy, as it is the one and only lineup of Bauhaus - although Peter has toured with bass player David J Haskins, celebrating 40 years of Bauhaus. The original lineup is still touring, we lifelong fans are praying for new recordings but aren’t holding our breath!
I think "I Spit Roses" kinda killed that, although nobody thought they would even reunite at all after that, so... who knows!
Very cool. I wasn't a Bauhaus fan, but I heard Peter Murphy's song "I'll Fall With Your Knife" in a 90's movie. It was so dark and different: I just had to add it to my collection. He's a unique performer. It must have been hard to sing this song upside down.
What movie is it in? Love that song
@@ScarletVoodoo In the US, the movie was called "Trojan War." I believe it had a different name in Europe. As I recall, the song was played during the closing credits.
Sitting here invisioning a gravity table used for people with back problems. And he's just upside down in one singing in his living room. lol ✌️❤️🌹
What a legend. Bought this on 12 inch in 1980 I think. Always a pleasure to hear it. Especially when Peter is hanging upside down 😁
can you react to "show must go on" by Queen. Its one of Freddie Mercurys best vocal performances ever
I was a little Gothic in Australia during the very early 80' and was there at the start of that scene which has evolved into the Emo's I see on the streets today.
Im in my 50's now and Bauhaus was one of my favorite bands. Love the song Crows the best.
Nick Cave was still with either the Birthday Party or Boy Next Door. I have loved seeing what was once considered alternative go to mainstream with Bands like Navana making the cross over. Still listen to early Goth music.
I was there! Great way to finish a long day of music. Back when one could buy a single ticket.
Does anybody remember gravity boots from the 80s?
He sounds great here. Pretty much the way I remember him sounding even though I haven't listened to them in awhile. I'm just wondering how he didn't pass out with the blood rushing to his head! 😁 If you want to check him out on his feet I suggest their official video of their cover version of David Bowie's song "Ziggy Stardust". It rocks and he sounds great!
One of my favorite concert experiences was in Fiddlers Green in Colorado. Featuring The Pixies, Love and Rockets and The Cure as head liners.
And Shelleyann Orphan as the first band, as they were on tour with the Cure at that time.
I don't remember where, but I recall an interview with Love and Rockets - where the quote was something like ~ writing for Bauhaus was difficult when the singer only sings 3 notes. lol. probably untrue.
With that said, this song was so enlightening and such a change for me when I heard it on the radio. Coming out of Disco - with the 5th of Beethoven, Chic, Donna Summer - with funky guitar, synth bass, and string sections... to something so minimalist, with little harmonic movement, and those textures with the pick dragging across the strings... I was unaware of anything like it at the time. Just beautiful. Still enjoy it! Classic song.
"The greatest band on the face of the earth, enjoy it while you can, because we will never see their like again"
Please react to release the bats by The Birthday party Nick Cave’s band before he formed the bad seeds
Please, please sing that song upside down for Halloween.
Thank you for my little moment of zen.
love Bauhaus!
Bat song? Release the Bats Birthday Party. Nick Caves band before the Bad Seeds.
Making me nostalgic for the 1990s goth/industrial scene of my 20s with this one. Now I want you to do a whole retrospective of some of my favourites, like Andrew Eldritch from Sisters of Mercy or Suzanne Perry of Love Spirals Downwards...I could go on. Stupid nostalgia! A man can dream, though, right? xD
Wow, makes me nostalgic for the late 70s, early 80s, when it first came out and we all rocked our Siouxsie Sioux eye liner and Robert Smith lipstick and sneakers
@@janes.1559 Haha, I'm not quite old enough for that, but I'm a bit envious. So much of my favourite music is from that era.
isn't andrew eldritch kinda rubbish live? she'd probably want to go with a studio recording instead of a live performance in that case. (unless what i heard years ago was some kind of joke that went right over my head and he's actually just fine live, i guess.)
@@ravenofroses You know, I'm really not sure. I don't think I ever managed to see them live. I have some vague recollection of them being on a ticket once, but have no specific memories. That doesn't mean much; they could have been unmemorable, I could have been wasted, or I could be remembering a ticket for a show I wound up not going to. I could even be flat out imagining it, since I can't think of who else was supposed to be with them.
Now I want to look for some live recordings, but those are always a crapshoot because of recording quality.
@@iDEATH yeah, live recordings are hit or miss, especially older ones.
Was at that show. Incredible- and New Order did a full Joy Division set right before-!
Nice video beth, peter Murphy is one of the most famous singers of the dark wave and his voice is amazing! If you can react to susumu hirasawa who is an incredible japanese composer and singer since the 80's till today
Love this, I think the first tattoo I got was Bauhaus logo back in 86.
I was actually at this concert!
I was there. It was fn amazing!
First band i ever saw. Very early 80's
Nobody else like Bauhaus. Brilliant reaction and to even do this one, even better.
My favourite song to apreciate in late Silent night The same song is the aperture in the classical movie The Hunger with Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and great elenc. From the solo carreer of Peter Murphy's songs like CUT ME UP and Índigo Eyes my favourites. Tones On Tail the Band with the restants of Bauhaus with Go became another big hit in the nights of São Paulo like Bela Lugosi's Death
it is Bauhaus Kevin Haskins Daniel Ash Peter Murphy David J, never seen him sing it upside down last saw em back in the early 80s where he used a black box filled with light when he lifted the lid
Una de mis bandas favoritas.
Original lineup at this show. And Peter sounds pretty much the same standing upright
Hi it’s Stacie! This video is interesting and creepy at the same time! I have heard of this band but never really got into them! However: This is sooo perfect for Halloween! A man singing upside down now that takes talent! Take care Beth!🎃

i would love to see you do janis joplin live either maybe or summertime live 1969 she was such an amazing singer
Surprisngly being upside down hasn't seemed to have had much effect on his tone. Of course whilst the most famous of their repitore it isn't the most strenuous of their songs on his voice
Yeah, I can't imagine him trying to do "Double Dare" upside down or even "In the Flat Field"
This is like the lost boys film meats reality I was goth back in 80s as were all my friends and class I miss those times
Peter Gabriel in Growing Up Live 2016, sings with his daughter up side down too
More of this sort of thing! :)
That's definitely David J on bass, a Bauhaus original. And I'm pretty sure that's Daniel Ash's nose.
