Like Destiny suggested, I would rather Pokimane lean into that more combative personality rather than manufacturing an unnaturally positive one, because I feel like she might find it more rewarding to openly express herself instead of pretending to be someone she clearly isn't.

Pokimane always screamed inauthentic mean girl. 1000% that same story you saw in High School/College where some girl was suuuuuper sweet to yours/others face but was a completely different person when that same person wasn't around. I have to agree. That's the same vibe I always got from her, and I feelyou can see it seep through when she makes certain jokes. They don't feel like jokes, they feel like her real feelings masked with a laugh. Maybe she's just not naturally funny so it comes off weird, but she's not the first woman I've seen who makes "jokes" with a some venom. Jenna Marbles is a perfect example of a female creator/streamer who got pushback but rolled with it and continued to just "be a guy on the internet". She did a good job of ignoring or dishing back at people barking with fake outrage, apologizing if she felt she truly did wrong, but either way just moving forward with her insanely authentic and genuine persona. It served her very very well for a long time, but ultimately she ended up going a bit too far in the direction of catering to the people who were upset and rather than start to curate the type of image poki does, she decided to just walk away and step back from the limelight.
You can't compare the two cause :
A) Jenna is a RUclipsr. Female youtubers don't get as much dislike as female streamers on Twitch.
B) Jenna is kind of a tomboy and Pokie is a girly girl. A tomboy is always seen as cool and less fake.

Her success was built on videos that were all about makeup and shoes and bras and fake tanner. And that phase of her growth was precisely when she was getting the same kind of pushback that poki gets, she just handled it very differently. The biggest difference between the two really is that Jenna has always been explicitly comedic where poki has always been a more bland comfort streamer whose whole persona is just "nice". Being a funny person does give more wiggle room to dish back at the haters in a comedic or even self-deprecating way, but at the same time not having that wiggle room is a known risk of being one dimensionally nice as your whole image. If you box yourself in as the nice girl, the only tools you have at your disposal are nice girl tools. If you're image is real, you're allowed to be real when the rubber meets the road.

Her persona screamed early 2000s "I'm not like the other girls" . That's why she is liked. People in general find girl girls boring and women with similar personality as Jenna "interesting" cause she is more fun than the average girls. That's what I meant when I said "tomboy". It's similar to how people like Billie ilish cause she is "different". She has an edge. Notice that liked women like Jenna and Billie and kind of more masculine than the average woman. Poki is very feminine.

I wouldn't say i "hate" Poki, but, I DO hate how she's a HUUUGE proponent of internet censorship.

The simple and true explanation about Poki is that her fame was pushed heavily by Twitch, she did have a gamer base way back when, but her actual content isnt as popular as twitch made her out to be. The reason Ludwig's RUclips video did better is that reason, she is manufactured which doesn't translate to outside Twitch. She also was around pre-streamer girl, bathtub streams blah blah she did in provide some of those young boys online "a gril" to watch.
tbf Ludwig is also pretty manufactured.. He I guess is just more content focused and not nearly as condescending and as hate-able as pokimane is so he benefits from the manufactured success in a way she doesn't. He also works a lot harder and puts together events, etc constantly to keep his name in a positive light whereas whenever I hear about Poki it's ALWAYS over negative things.

She just seems super inauthentic in her mannerisms and her speech patterns and her laugh. All of it feels more fake and performative than being her natural outward expression. The wired video is a very pronounced example but just overall thats the feeling I get personally. Ludwig gives off that vibe as well but only in certain circumstances like certain YT videos. Otherwise his mannerisms etc seem authentically him, like that just the way he is. Same with Destiny, he can be performative for example when he's debating but mostly it comes off as being his natural expression rather than feeling inauthentically performative. And dont give any of the "its nerves" bs for Poki. Thats not gonna fly. And then theres the hypocrisy which is a different story.

The reason women are expected to be pretty on stream opposed to men is because most streamer females aren’t watched for their “content”. The majority fans of these female streamers are simp men who watch them for their beauty not for the actual content. Female streamers are watched mostly for looks, that’s why there’s an emphasis on makeup and keeping up with their appearance. I don’t get how destiny doesn’t realize that

If Jon Zherka came on looking like he always does, he's recievung less comments about those things. Peoole rip on pokimane's looks in her face reveals because she otherwise covers her face in 5 inch paint and offers little besides a manufactured personality and smile for sponsors and reading out chat messages.
It may be surprising to you, but while there may be a larger male audience for female streamers many men follow them because they do find them funny. The pervasive narrative around female streamers is about their looks, so people don't often consider how many of them didn't grow their ENTIRE career on their looks because they don't know how to view women outside of how attractive they are.
Shocking: People don’t like Pokimane due to her history and her consistent actions. Male or female, people would dislike a fake, copyright abusing hypocritical person.

It's one of the many facets of male dating advice that often puts people in between a rock and a hard place, because people tell you if you want to start a relationship with a woman then you need to become friends with her first, because that's often how their relationships started out, and it worked for them so why not anyone else? That line of thinking obviously has flaws because it doesn't apply to everyone because not everyone's situations are the same.
Something that's often bothers me regarding these discussions though is how quick people are to assume the guy was using the girl as a means to an end to start a relationship. This does happen, but what about times where feelings develop overtime? How can you reliably tell the difference between someone who became friends with you and had ulterior motives the entire time, and someone who developed those feelings for you naturally and just so happened to be your friend, unless they tell you honestly that they did exactly that?
The key to all of this is just being sincere. Humans feel patterns even if they cant put their finger on what wrong. Poki is rarly sincere on stream

It's much more accurate to say that he authentically wanted to aid a streamer ally that had fallen into trouble because that's what he does. He's shown loyalty in the past to streamer friends who have run into difficulty (Valkyrae and RFLCT springs to mind). He's a gifted communicator, so he likes to lend his voice to help protect people that he's got as allies (which is probably a better word to use than "friend", because who knows if they're actually friends or not).
It's Streamer 101 that when you get into heavy shit, all your friends and allies usually abandon you to face it alone. The fact that he was willing to touch a controversial topic to present a defense of Pokimane at the height of cancellation talk speaks to how sincere he was in trying to rally to her defense. That's the opposite of being "inauthentic". The fakest thing to do in that situation would be the very thing that everyone always does: just do nothing and remain silent while you watch your so-called "friend" drown.

I’ve just never understood the sexism argument when it comes to Pokimane. There are relatively way larger female personalities in media that have less negativity shown towards them.
There’s an argument for the effect the online space you inhabit might have on how you’re viewed, gaming being the one that comes to mind.
However, when people have a problem with Pokimane, they don’t tend to refer to nebulous behaviours that are perceived differently when done by women, they refer to stuff like this and going after sponsors of creators.
It was the same when Alinity was copystriking Pewdiepie. The shared factor is not that they’re both women, it’s that they were abusing power to impact another creator. Aba and Preach covered this same topic when it involved Fresh and fit and Pearl.
It’s not unique to one sex, it’s the behaviours.
Maybe, the criticism you get doing this stuff as a woman is magnified because of sexism, but that’s never the argument. It’s usually “any criticism is baseless and due to sexism”.
I don’t know, but I can point to female creators in gaming that most people don’t have problems with. If they can manage it, why can’t others?
Sexism exists, but it is certainly not the reason people want to hold her accountable for her actions. The sort of “anti-simp” crusaders are likely the same people buying into the Redpill, and of course they are misogynistic pile on at every instance of controversy. However, it is precisely because she markets herself as the sweet, personable girl streamer that people get so offended. It is the hints of passive-aggression, the subtle condescension, the selfishness that do not comport with the image she usually streams with.
Overall, Pokimane calling people broke is such a non-problem, but it reflects poorly when the first response to criticism is calling people stupid and poor.
They are larger but not in a male dominated space. Twitch is mostly a streaming website with the majority of male users but Poki is HUGE there. Not only that. she doesn't show her body to get big. She is the epitome of "girl next door" yet she is way bigger than all the e-girls compined. That doesn't sit well with boys.

The leap of girly-girl is succesful in male dominated space = hated is a huge leap without an explanation behind that as to why.
WHY would a predominantly male user space dislike a “girly” twitch streamer. Why do we not see a proportionate level of hate for Emiru, a famous streamer, very girly, even more of a gamer these days than Poki likely exposing her to more of a male demographic.
I guess I’m just not understanding how Poki’s situation is usually described as being due to such a broad cause, but seems to disproportionately affect her compared to other female creators (relative to audience size), who occupy similar niches. And again, what of the legitimate criticisms towards her as a creator that aren’t uniquely directed at her?
Poki behaves and comes across as like a model for really young girls. I could see her personality being on a Disney channel original show, but the problem is she's a livestreamer, so that level of inauthenticity feels really out of place, like you're never getting the real Poki.
Pokemane does a really good job at mitigating damage from her irresponsible behavior by networking and making lots of friends that will defend her and yell "sexism" without hesitation the second any negativity goes her way. The only problem is, it makes a yes man (or woman lol) echochamber for her, where she's never corrected on her behavior by anyone noteworthy to her, and so her semi-toxic behavior is always excused in the eyes of her friends

Pokimane is heavily promoted by Twitch because she fits the brand friendly 'safe' streamer type that Twitch wants to put in front of brands to get there money.
I've been in meetings with Twitch reps as a brand they were pitching to and Pokimane was plastered all over the deck, especially in their Tier 1 influencer package.
My guess is that's core of people's hatred for Pokimane, not that she's a woman, just more that she's somewhat and industry plant and the face of 'safe brand friendly streaming'.

I agree that the sexism angle doesn't hold water, not just because there are reasons for why she gets the response she gets (as opposed to so many other female streamers even "famous" ones) but also because this is her kneejerk response to all criticism and it always has been. She has two problems; 1. Her persona does not fit her actual personality, she either has to treat her brand (I.e. her persona) like a business and act professional (not good for streaming) or she has to change her persona, her actual personality is less traditionally marketable, she obviously wants some degree of mass appeal and that's okay, but that comes with sacrifices.
2. She cannot handle criticism and lash out at anyone pretty much for even mild criticism, like "Your cookies are a bit expensive" too which her persona completely breaks down and her actual personality comes through, which unfortunately is entitled, sheltered and very far removed from the reality of a regular person and most importantly many of her own viewers, so she calls them poor and laughs at them when they tell her, her cookies are expensive.
The reason she gets hate might actually just be because she puts herself in these situations and that's she's atleast nowhere *near* as wholesome and good as she portrays herself. Many people don't like fakes, and Pokimane comes off as fake. I personally don't think it has to be more difficult than that really

I think people strongly sense that she's being really fake all the time. And not as in a streaming persona kind of thing, but in a way where she pretends to be 'goofy' or 'nerdy' when she's really not. I realize this is what's going on and I don't even really follow her, so I can imagine that a lot of people get the same vibes from her. I tried dating women alot of times and I was always rejected, then I decided to work on myself more and haven't tried dating ever since. I dropped 60kg in 2 years, changed my clothing style, changed my haircut and changed my perfume (btw. due to training alot it also changed my posture and I think that made me look way more confident). Now I regularily get compliments by random women (most of the time about my perfume or my clothing).

Pokimane strikes me as the fake nice type. Maybe in her mind she is genuinely trying her best but to me she seems like if you aren't the exact model of a perfect kind and censoring all language person she will try to smite you or try to make you doubt yourself. It may be a bias of the type of women I run into but the ludwig manufactured archetype tends to be much worse in women.
Imo women do get a more narrow path in some spaces but it's usually not men giving them that at least in nerd or geek driven spaces.
In more nerd spaces you'll hear "pick me" as a term often but men usually move on and find someone else. About your theory of those two guys that start at the same point in life and develop totally different. Yeah that's how it works. Your physical attributes determine a lot of your future. The people treat you in relation to your attributes. In my case, I was always a very shy and non-confrontational girl. But I grew up to be 6 ft and broadly build. From some people I got some unearned respect, others thought I was scary and they felt threatened and even aggressive. While I just didn't want any attention and maybe some cuddles. This whole idea that women have to fit into certain boxes to get success is silly and completely wrong. The unfortunate reality is often women who do get success online is because of their beauty or sexuality. When Poki first came out, a lot of her haters could be attributed to sexism. Past that though she’s acted in a lot of ways that get her hate that is justified. The sexism story would’ve worked some years ago but now there are people that are still mad at her over old shit that just see this as another mark on the totem pole.
