  • Breaking grips and escaping from holds is one of the staples of any self defense program, but how you approach this topic can vary greatly. In this download, we've kept the holds simple, dynamic and aggressive, like I saw them applied so many times while working the door in bars and clubs. We will cover wrist and arm grabs, evolving into aggressive drags and pull downs, headlocks standing and on the ground, guillotine cranks and chokes, bear hugs, lifts, slams, and full nelsons. Rather than teach an encyclopedia of specific techniques, we will begin by educating the attack, making you and your partner efficient in the locks. What value is there in learning to escape from a poorly applied hold? We will learn to feel the lock and to experience the pressure and fears each can create, growing our familiarity and reducing our shock and fear. Then we will learn the structure of the lock, learning essential principles of movement that can be expressed in a variety of unique escapes. I believe there is no value in learning static escapes, void of resistance and strength. I believe it is possible for anyone to safely grow the pressure and resistance they use in their training to better prepare themselves for the reality of self defense. I also believe that the manner in which the vast majority of self defense systems teach hold escapes is far too cognitive and untested and does very little to prepare its students for reality. This download will teach you how to avoid these pitfalls.

Is this different from your previous video with the same title? I already purchased that, so I was wondering what were the differences. Thank you!

Different solution to positions and positions not addressed elsewhere like finger chokes, full Nelson, bear hugs. This is more of a brass tacks self defense video

Definitely a weak-point of mine. I once sparred against a woman about 30% lighter than me and it felt like being buried under a tree or something... it was embarrassing. She, on the other hand, had a 75% chance of getting away from me, if I tried to pin her down. In any case, she really knows her stuff and despite looking like an elephant baby, she´s agile, strong and has stamina that puts athletic looking people to shame (I really wonder how someone chubby can be that fast and run a marathon as if it was nothing).

Been there. It’s a horrible feeling to get owned by a significantly smaller opponent. Correct training can absolutely correct that.

@@systemacanada Hearing of you failing sounds odd, but every master has failed more times than the student has tried...

Not much to be honest. It’s just flashy demo-no live sparring, boxing, grappling or scenario training. Just one man going full speed against someone standing still. As practical as bending a spear against your throat or breaking boards. I have zero interest.

They’re a blend of everything I’ve done. The way I teach, I’m not concerned with looking like or acting like a certain thing. Evolution should be a continuous process not a destination in my view
