Everyone seems to hate wyclef's part but it's what made me tear up. Those are his people and he seems to have put his heart into his verses. Even if he's not the best singer, lol
You just can't beat the original.
If you went to the first We are the World you would know more now than you knew at the time. (Billy Joel, Daryl Hall, Willie Nelson, etc.)
I don't hate it... but as soon as the auto-tune starts it's where it's going downhill.
I agree with you.
Number 1 is the only one. Never be that iconic.
Love your commentary! You are exactly right.
Honestly, I kind of wish that we had a new "We Are The World" every year!
The Grammys After-Party should just be everybody getting drunk, somebody dropping a beat, and all the pop stars in the world breaking into an annual karaoke dumpster fire! Each year trying to top the one before on how insane they can make it!
I'm sure we could find a charity to give the streaming royalties to.
One other thing was most of them had on Auto tune. It didn't exist nor was needed in 1985. My how we have fallen.
Just like the original NBA Dream Team, you can't replicate the legends in the original version of this song.
As an Islander, I love love love Wyclef Jean's part. It was cultural and meaningful. It might sound off to someone used to listening to 'clean' music but as a child of Calypso, reggae, & soca, THIS is how we do it, passionately.
Sn the black man before Cece Winans is BeBe Winans. They have a beautiful duo together called 'Love Said Not So'
Canada had Tears Are Not Enough
I recently watched a documentary of the making of the original and it was very interesting. Took them around 10 hours. Lionel put a sign on the entrance that said Leave Your Ego at the Door. That was probably a good thing.
You are so adorable and wholesome, I love your videos ❤
Yes, this didn't age as well as the original. It wasn't "Record of the Year" or multi-million-selling material. But I guess it still works as a time capsule from the era, for better or worse.
You have to remember in the original there were all ( no matter the genre) all singers, in this group at this time Rap was being well recognized so of course they had rappers in it and most rappers can't hang with really good singers and the auto-tune was big at this time also so someone somewhere probably said something about lets bring what "the young people" like/are into and there you have it.
Not horrible just can't hold a candle to the original plus if I remember correctly the original was after the Grammys so extremely spontaneous and you can't really get that a second time around unless you do the same think and an awards show and hustle people in to perform and this doesn't really feel like that happened ( I could be wrong but...)
anyway great reaction as usual Britt
I believe part one was accepted cuz they all sang from the Heart! they walked into the studio with a heavy heart .........after hearing that children were laying dead on the streets of ethiopia africa! and a lady from the ethiopian embassy came to thank them for their efforts.............but she cried. so they felt it.
And they sang the song with passion and conviction! I see the second part was made decades later to assist the people in Haiti! haiti had a terrible tsunami I believe!
But they sang the song with lack of passion and bluster! and so u can see the difference clearly!
Seeing u sing shackles was my highlight, that mary, mary song is always fun
@9:19 Britt with her "Romper Room" impression.
😂😂😂
The original was, so much getter IMHO...
The collection of money was a crime … "Just send money - no blankets" - resulting in No Money & No Blankets. Now it's incredible to live there and even UN is leaving due to safety.
There was something so special about the original one that this one just doesn’t capture. That being said, there were some actual good singers in the Haiti version of this song, it just didn’t have the magic. I didn’t love it as much. They should’ve maybe done a new song for this cause. I do love the MJ & Janet side by side duet part. That’s my favorite part of part 2.
Nothing can't even come close to the original both in talent and spirit, let alone touch it. The only good thing here is Tony Bennett, Janet Jackson, and Barbara Streisand. And it was even relatively "ok" till they threw in the Autotuned garbage, and had to remind everyone it's not 1985 anymore, sadly...
Now it’s time to come full-circle with The Making of (the original) We Are the World. I think you’ll really enjoy it.
As for this one, the performer I appreciate most is Pink. She started her career with a bad-girl-of-rock image, but she has become so empathetic, inspiring, wholesome, and most importantly genuine. As much as I didn’t enjoy this song, I appreciate that the had the opportunity - and chose to- participate.
I never even knew they did this until now. lol what a joke.
Queen Brit, We All Need U To React { To The Making Of We Are The World }!!!!!!!!!! please...
I love how u tried to stay nice and say trey is"making bad decisions" and not call out what he did🤪
I don't know, I am 60 yrs old and I love the origianl version of course but I also love that they remade the song for such a good cause. I think it would be also be nice for a new version to come out with the modern singers ( maybe mixed with the older ones) and raise money for the many needed causes.
Randy Jackson was in the group Journey
He was!!
I can't believe I haven't seen this. It's not bad per say, but it's not good either. It's a cheap copy. They should have done an original, it just would never compare no matter how good it was.
Well I’m an older (60) Jackson fan so I knew the original song and artists. I don’t know these people
Wow you really love to hear yourself talk 😮😅
Definitely yes! Part one from the 80's was the best!
The original is great but this one was good too imo
13:07 " who's that with the braids" ? Thats one of Michael Jackson 's nephews** Taj Jackson ** if im not mistaken. Hes in a group with 2 of his other brothers/ group name 3T >> Tito Jackson's children.
I like this version as well as the original but i just didnt care for the rapping .
Wait til you see the 3rd one 😂
Bad definitely outweighs the good with this one
Nothing will be better than the original. Listen to "Do they know it's Christmas" Uk 's contribution to help Afrika also.
You should react to the one in spanish. "Somos el Mundo"
I’ll check it out!
Thank you! I didn't realize this existed. I'm Hispanic, but I don't listen to a lot of music in Spanish. It was a shock to see such big names. It was so beautiful until they got to the rap section... I forgot about Pitbull. Oh, well.
This wasn't bad, but the original was much better. It brings back memories.
May I suggest voices that care by various artists
Santana was playing the guitar.
They should have done an original song. Use the idea of WE ARE THE WORLD but do ur own original song. I do like that they didn't have ANYBODY do Michael's part.....u talked about ur mama being a crazy MJJ fan, number 1 fan...wel that IS WHO I AM. I cried and couldn't eat for 3 days when he passed, i was a wreck!!! So I know EXACTLY how your mama felt, love yiur reaction to the original video. I didn't comment on that video cuz so many said a lot of what I was feeling, your knowledge of most of the artists was impressive
That's BeBe Winans
1. They should have written a new song. With all of those talented people they should have been able to come up with another good song.
2. This song is not about ego. It is about raising money for people in dire need. The egos needed to stay at home.
3. The man who was singing in the Haitian language might have tried to stay on key a little better. I am not familiar with his work. Is it perhaps a stylistic choice that people in Haiti sing like that? I know there is a similar vocal style in Asia. It is very loud and piercing, but it is something they do on purpose.
4. Don't mind the haters. If this many people want to get together to help Haiti, I'm glad they did.
Wyclef’s part is the best, what 😭 I felt his soul within it and as a Caribbean person born and raised (I was 10 at the time), it made me BAWL 🥹
Okay now you should react to We are the world by Kurt Hugo with various RUclips artists (2018)
Hello Pretty Britt hopefully you and your family stay healthy and have a great day...
I would like you to react our Indonesian's various artists We Are The World...
Thank you so much❤❤❤❤
Couldn’t agree more. The original is one of the greatest songs ever, this version is absolutely pathetic in comparison. The vibe of the song and the heart and soul has been completely removed from the original song and replaced with individuals who sound awful alongside each other , where the original, they blended perfectly. Somethings are better left alone, this is the perfect example.
Please React to "We are Star" the 80s Rock equivalent to "We are the world".
Love & Peace, Fan from Nagaland, India.
Britt I am totally confused the original one was my age group ❤ Jennifer Nettles Sugarland country singer😊
I like it more than the one other time I heard it. The major downhill started with the auto tune. I have no problem with Wyclef, because that will mean something to his people. I don't mind there're being the rap section, it's the performance of it that's the problem as you said. The problem I have with the sunglasses is the probable ego, and that it makes it feel less personal. Some of the ones I could identify makes me think it might have been masking some things. So, I would have had them dial back on the appearance of toughness, and shifted the auto tuned into the rap section. If that had been done, it would not have pulled me out of the experience as much.
Have you seen The Making of We Are The World, 1985? Its good
Quit hatin’ on dem bruthers baby girl😂
I agree Brit, they should've just rewritten a whole new song. U can't tell me what all the singer/songwriters among them they couldn't put a whole new song together. I'm also curious to know if all the proceeds from this song went to the Haiti cause, if I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure the original song had all the proceeds to Africa. I will say, I did like Kanye's rap better than L.L.'s LOL!!!!
The original was not competitive, they hung a sign at the door that read. Check your ego at the door, only one singer chose not to participate. Everyone just sang for a genuine cause. Not like this mess.
How have you NOT reacted to "Scream" by Michael and Janet??
Yeah. The 2nd one didn't impress me either.
Okay so this version wasn’t as good as the first one but it was for the same purpose. To help a country in need. Wyclef is Haitian so this hit him hard. My cousin and her dad are Haitian. T-Pain definitely didn’t need the auto-tune 🤦🏾♀️ I enjoyed this one as well, but I seriously hope that they don’t make another one. You can’t replicate the original because it was that good.
Josh Graham ( no relation to Andre Boccelli ).
Yes Britt, that is Tony Bennett
Josh Groban?
@@rockyroad7345 yes it's Groban not Graham
Might be too late but you should react To the canadian song for Haiti Wavin Flag by Young Artists For Haiti
Honestly I don't think it's much different than the first one. I'm of the older generation and those were great singers. These are as well. They did it justice🎉. I do sort of agree with the rap part though. It was kind of out there 😂
Edited again: I'm right with you on that gurgling guy. Lol😮
From the rap part on, they should edit it out 😂
original was SO much better......... actual talent involved..... perhaps these guys should have written their own tune.... would have been better.
There wasn’t enough time to “write their own song”. This was organized by Lionel Ritchie the Composer of the Original Song. He contacted Jamie Foxx and they scheduled a recording date 9 days later. The two of them then began calling every singer they knew in the industry. Once people committed, Lionel and Jamie re-worked the song for the voices that were available. This version was always about the devastation and destruction, and the US quickly coming together to lend a hand. It isn’t about who sang it better, the versions aren’t competing against each-other, especially with the composer being involved in both tracks. It is about unity and giving.
Benji Maddon
I thought i was the only one but Wyclef sound terrible.. 😂 The part that you thought was Celine singing when it didnt show who was NICOLE ❤ GIRLLLLL THAT RAP PART WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND IT WAS GREAT 🙏🏿 I don't understand the hate towards it like wtf?!
Definitely didn't need the rap part in this!! And then the people screaming into the mic after that no no no no no no no no no no no!!
There’s a huge difference between the original version from 1985, which was to raise money in general for Africa. In 2010, Haiti was hit by a 7.5 on the Richter scale, earthquake. When the original version was recorded, it was primarily for all of Africa and raised over $80 million dollars, equivalent to, in 1985, $222 million. That recording and simulcast raised immediate funds.
The remake was for Haiti only for the same purpose to raise immediate funds for those in Haiti. It was also recorded and simulcast. It raised $13.5 billion. Why would anyone be offended with artists of today’s world, and the various known now artists, for raising money to help those in need in Haiti? That’s ludicrous!
Think your video was blocked for a reason?
Have you ever seen the Michael and Janet Jackson scream music video
That was Josh Groban
Excuse me! Can you not sound surprised when Mary sounds good?
I love the original We Are The World… it will always be my favorite. But, I do think that when you use a song like that to raise awareness or money, you should stick to the original. I personally don’t care for the hip hop section, nothing against the artists in it…I love them, I just can’t picture that section with that song. I know that record labels and producers want to make things current but We Are The World is song that is iconic and doing something like just having current musicians singing the song, without adding a new section, would have been great too. They could have done two versions of the song with one version being without the hip hop and the other version being with it. I also don’t understand the trend of having sunglasses on while you’re inside?
I am a recording engineer (and a note-to-color music theorist. with channel,) and I have _nothing_ against auto-tune. I believe it is a technological musical tool as much as digital reverb, or anything else. But, _auto-tuning_ Justin Bieber from the starting gate literally DRAINS the soul from We Are the World even more than The Smashing Pumpkins singing "The World is a Vampire."
Just saying.
Your, _Acoustic Rabbit Hole_
These comments are insufferable lol. They didn't recreate this song to simply top, or be better than, the original. It's for charity and to raise awareness...
Do people still have Bieber Fever?
Now you gotta watch "do they know it's christmas time" It's basically the original that started all this.
Some voices apparently can’t be heard without auto tune. It’s not the best composition Jackson ever made but the ‘84 version is so much better.
I have to say this, tbh, I don't like it. For starters, they , as a whole, do not harmonize well with each other, imho. AS for how they did the individual people, it was not well with coordination, meaning the order they did them in the editing. Too mismatched, imho. There was no cohesive flow to me at all. It all seemed a bit too choppy and sloppy. And the auto-tune....don't need to say anything on that part...sad. I could go on but I'll stop here. I'm surprised that it came out like this considering Quincy Jones helped produce this.
It's good, but it just doesn't hit the same. If they changed it up a little, it could have been so much better.
They did change up the remake. It's actuslky 1,000% worse than the original version back in 1985
There was NO some random vocalists in that room i think
Josh Groban!!
Wyclef sounds like he accidentally sat on a porcupine
Live Aid version of Do They Know It's Christmas!!!
Britt, love your channel. I always try to be positive but this is not good. I love the message but the how was not good. The best part was everything but Wyclef and the rap colaboration. I definitely am an oldhead and prefer the original.
Do some Michael Jackson videos reactions
No one can beat Cyndi or Celine. They took both songs
There was always gonna be a comparison but there are too many synthesised voices in this version, as well as every performer trying to outdo the others. Not even close to the original and I wouldn’t listen to it again.
EGO’s in the room!! 🤦🏻♂️
Ask yourself; how many are legends?
Its not so bad if u play it a 2x speed. BUT the rap part is still out of place and terrible. 😂
I think this was awesome and it no doubt helped lots of people❤️
Terrible, none of the voices match up musically like the original version even through auto tune . Done purely for publicity not for the actual fundraising issue.
Although there are many singers that I love and respect in this version, unfortunately in this shameful remake there was more ego than heart involved. I bet Michael wouldn't be happy about this at all.
Well... it was an idea... some effort was given... ultimately this remake shows that a successful classic original is best remembered and revered - it worked the first time because talented persons came together and left their egos in the parking lot.
Truly successful folk don't need to protect their personal brand at all times, it ruins projects. BTW- please react to Tony Bennett singing duets, he also did a full album with Gaga.
This is Not as good as the first one. Britt, I bet if you went back to the original one you would know most of them now.
I’ll give it a look!
5:40 was Janet Jackson even singing or was that part just put in to get an emotional response from the viewers
The guy you thought was Andrea Bocelli is Josh Groban. And the woman from Sugarland is Jennifer Nettles who has an amazing voice.
Original was 100 times better rhou they tried the rappers o no it is what it is ...
That guy that was right up on the mic for like a second, when you silently mouthed "who was THAT?" That was Nick Jonas
Oh wow!
This was after a major earthquake in 2010, yes it was the same sing rerecorded except the new rap part by will.i am . MICHAEL Jackson died the year before this version but janet duets with mikes original singing as requested by their mom Katherine. This was released during the 2010 olympics but this version does have giants like barbra streisand ,celine, el debarge and others
Britt, Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland. She collaborated with Jon Bongiovi on a song called "Who says you can't go home" it's great. I believe it was for one of my favorite causes "Habitat for Humanity"
Also, your comment section has a bot pretending to be you. Look at all the 1 replies from real ppl.
Randy Jackson from American Idol or as us older people know, Journey
I’m sorry, you’re wrong. It is that bad! I think everyone is trying to out sing everybody else. I like the classics, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett are good but everybody else just no.
There is a RUclips being held hostage in Haiti right now by a huge gang.
