      I saw them on this tour with Whitesnake opening for them . Tommy paid for it after he did his spinning solo . Spinning and being drunk don't mix well . So as soon as it was over his head is down spilling his guts as he is doing the opening drum part for Shout at the Devil.

    Guys, I gotta say something. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE REACTION CHANNELS ON RUclips!!!! But I have ONE critique that I sincerely hope you see and take to heart. Though I absolutely LOVE when you stop the video to give commentary on what you like/dislike so far, you MISS special moments in a song sometimes when you start it back where you left off. And as much as you 2 are great at catching the intended feelings of these old school songs, I KNOW YOU and your appreciation for the music would thank me IF YOU TAKE THIS ADVICE (with the utmost respect). YOU GOTTA USE THE 10 SECOND REWIND BUTTON!!! PLEASE , I BEG YOU, utilize this function when doing your reviews. I know you’ll appreciate this. ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR CHANNEL GUYS, KEEP GOING YALL!!!

    Motley Crue is always referred to 'hair band', but they were really the precursor to hair bands. They tread their own path, hair bands followed.

    • @jackiegoodspeed1849

      Yeah I don't see them as a hair band, but a rock band.

    • @mdog2560
      @mdog2560 2 года назад +5

      True, but they saw the money that was rolling in from the hair bands, so they brought that look in for a while, especially for their Theater of Pain album. They went through their share of hair spray and makeup during that time. Fortunately, they threw that stuff into the trash bin for their Girls, Girls, Girls album.

    • @michellekeyes1507
      @michellekeyes1507 2 года назад +2

      @@mdog2560 lol, they did go through their share of hairspray, but hair bands were the record company's attempt to recreate their magic. They got a bit more neon for Theater of Pain, but the sound, hair and makeup were pre-cursors to the hair band scene.

    • @urthboundmisfit
      @urthboundmisfit 2 года назад

      Nah, they were out there at the same time as the other hair bands. They just never really took themselves seriously. The most preachy they got was on their Dr. Feelgood album, but Nikki (the bassist) had just survived a heroin overdose, so you really couldn't blame him. (He wrote a lot of their lyrics.)

    The drum set maneuvers began on the Theater of Pain tour with Tommy and kit put up on a 90 degree angle, with him facing downward and the audience looking at the kit like it was on the side of a wall. On the Girls, Girls, Girls tour (the video you just watched) not only did the carriage spin forward and backward, it also rotated left and right. On subsequent tours, there has been a circular roller-coaster, Tommy suspended by cables flying around between suspended drum kits and using industrial tools as percussion instruments, another tour fans got to ride with Tommy on the roller-coaster, on a forgotten tour Tommy did a high production disappearing magic act and lastly, as mentioned below, a fully suspended roller-coaster over the audience. All the theatrics began with Alice Cooper, but Motley Crue started and elevated what could be done on stage.

    I was a metalhead back in the late 80s & early 90s. Although I saw a number of great bands in concert, ironically I never was able to see Mötley Crüe live, to my chagrin. However, I was fortunate enough to meet drummer Tommy Lee outside the legendary Sunset Strip rock club Gazzarri’s (now long-gone but never forgotten; this club had seen bands from the 60s to the 80s rising up through the ranks, from the Doors to Van Halen to the Crüe to Poison to Guns ‘n Roses), after seeing his sister Athena performing drums in an all-girl band called Hardly Dangerous (they were good, too!). Tommy was very gracious and polite and spent time to chat with me and sign an autograph. Great fellow and despite some of the things he’s done over the years that have invited controversy and criticism, he always gets a pass from me.
    I think it’s awesome that y’all are in this journey of musical discovery and expanding your horizons way beyond what you’ve grown up with. It’s always a joy to accompany you on these trips.

    In 1983 they toured opening for Ozzy in support of their Shout At The Devil album. In 1985 they had their first headlining tour in support of their Theatre Of Pain album. That time they had more money to put together a headline-worthy show. Tommy had a drum platform built that would tilt 90 degrees forward so that the audience could see what he was doing from the “top” while he played his drum solo. This video for Wild Side was recorded during their 1987 tour for their new album that the song was from called Girls, Girls, Girls. They had even more money to spend on the tour production and that time they built the contraption you see here where Tommy would lift up and forward and then rotate forward and backward a complete 360 during his drum solo. Then the tour after that in 1989 for the Dr. Feelgood album he had a drum set on a train track way up in the air and he would do his drum solo while travelling around above the audience. He just kept doing crazier and crazier stuff with his drums every tour. They broke up for a while and got back together in 2005 for a reunion tour and there he had a big roller coaster loop and he spun around while playing the drum solo. And for their “final” tour (where they retired at the end, only to unretire and tour recently with Def Leppard) he took the roller coaster concept even further and had a huge track that went up and down across the length of the whole arena above the audience. Crazy fun stuff. I saw them ten times over the years. Very fun concerts. The only downside was it was a gamble as to whether or not Vince Neil would give a good vocal performance. Sometimes he would but sometimes he would half-ass it. It was a great show when he gave it a good effort, but it was a let down when he didn’t seem to care how well he sang. He had a reputation for that. I was lucky and in the ten times I saw them he only phoned it in once, which was this last tour with Def Leppard in Vancouver. I was disappointed to see that after nine other times being really fun.

    This was one of the first Motley Crue videos that I ever saw..... over 30 years ago. Thank you for reminding me how it felt to see, hear, experience, and obsess over them for the first time ❤

    Saw them in concert on this tour in Hollywood, Florida back in the day. It was amazing, and the things that spinning drum kit could do was sick lol. Whoever was controlling it started to mess with Tommy Lee a bit, leaving him upside down during his solo 😆. BTW, the opening band was Guns And Roses.

    I seen motley Crue twice in Portland Oregon, both times with that drum kit.
    The first time it just rolled forward and backwards can't remember if it went sideways or not? but it was the second time that not only did it go Roll forward and Roll backwards, it also came out over the stage towards the audience, while doing all of that action, it was freaking Amazing🤘🔥👊

    Motley Crue was the best. My friends met them when they came to town. They were walking outside the hotel room. My friends said they were very down to earth. This is a dark one but he also asks for to b others to pray for those on the wildlife. They sing about the losses and pain on that side. I love when the artist conveys the two opposing sides flipping back and forth.

    Hey Jay and Amber, if you thought Tommy Lee's rotating drum kit was crazy
    You should see his drum kit in the music video for "Same Ol' Situation"

    I have seen Crew over 12 times over the years and they never disapoint. True Vinces voice can't do what he did 30 years ago but they still put on a great show. The best I've seen them was back in Carnival of Sins tour.

    Got a chance to see them in 1990 with Lita Ford. Tommy had his drums set up above us. Crazy but fun. People were literally drenched in their sweat by the end of the concert. Great memories.

    So glad y’all finally saw one of Tommy’s roller coaster drum sets. But they get way crazier! Tommy isn’t talked about in drumming circles the way he should be.
    Y’all should listen to “In The Beginning” and “Shout At The Devil” together.

    This vid came out before you could rewind TV, so you can imagine this one got requested and watched over and over again just for the Drum spin!! Was so cool!!
    Not the best humans, but certainly great showman! I am a harsh critic, but you can't take that away from them how fun and iconic this was.

    I remember this as a kid. Just because of this, all of us kids thought he was the best drummer in the world ha. But this video was filmed in Evansville, IN. My friend was in the audience! Wish I could have been there!

    There is nothing quite like a Crüe concert! Well, at least older concerts. I have been to around 15 or so. Have never left disappointed. My all-time favorite performance was at the Sunset Strip Music Festival in (2011?) here in LA. They block off a couple blocks of the legendary part of the Sunset Strip right in front of all the iconic bars & music venues, then plopped the stage right in the middle of the street. Their performance was the headline act right after Bush. The stage had a circular rollercoaster to which Tommy's drum set was connected to and he would do loops during the show. It was epic in every sense of the word. Just to see them rocking out on the Strip that they helped make famous... and infamous. I felt spoiled in that moment. And that is exactly how I always remember them. Hard-hitting, no F's given, rockstars that played the hell out of their instruments. It was also before Vince's voice, or lack of wind, started to deteriorate some. But nonetheless, I won't miss an opportunity to see them live when they come here. It is just too much fun.

Of course, you can’t know it’s a great part because it’s new to you! We just don’t want you missing out on the greatness you are hearing!!
