This incredible performance "takes off" already after a few seconds, when Carrington and Miller sets the groove..then.. it´s just to sit back and enjoy for 12 minutes!! And as I figure.. ,,this is not an easy piece of music to deliver with such a "flow" as they do here!! Thank you Herbie for all the fabulous jazz-funk-music!!!
except for the ending.. which must've really bummed her way out. It would've me. Once they lock in at the top otherwise stellar performance bringing this incredible piece of music. Roy's look over says it all.." where are you baby?"
As a guy who’s never had much money (and has spent a lot of time in the “hinterlands” of America), I’ve never had a chance to catch Herbie live. I’m making up for lost time on RUclips. One of the things I’ve noticed is that, over the years, Herbie played more and more piano during his live performances, even when he was doing his electric stuff from the 70s (like this tune). I would have thought that the Rhodes would sound better in this kind of context, but I’m really digging the piano.
This is a real good "live" rendition of Actual Proof ... the best I've seen. However, it's still a cover of the masterpiece created by Herbie Hancock and his Headhunters in 1973, which can't be improved upon. The band was comprised of Hancock (keyboards), Bennie Maupin (reeds), Mike Clark (drums), Paul Jackson (bass), and Bill Summers (percussion).
Anybody who knows this really appreciate The history you're sharing on Herbie Hancock and this particular tune "Actual Proof" thanks for educating people. Being a late teen(and a early musician) when it came out, my ear immediately matured.
Ah course it can be improved upon. Versions in the last ten years take this tune to places they couldn’t have imagined back then. This isn’t one of the best live performances imo and it’s still insanely killing
Wow...what an amazing performance of this all time fav by this all star cast of great musicians... while I will always b a tad partial to the original I would not b disappointed if this was all I had left of the two...Marcus Miller is an absolute beast and he kept Paul Jackson’s bass line to this cut just as funky...can’t get over all the fantastic artist that cam 2gether for this performance but damn how I wish I had been in attendance...😭
I like this version but the original version on Thrust (if that is the original...please correct me if I am wrong), will always be the penultimate version of this song as it just flows and has a crazyness about it that I haven't heard in any other ensemble with Herbie. So far that is the best version for me.
+rspexperiment THANK YOU FOR THAT TAD BIT HISTORY....THIS SONG IS JUST DOPE...JUST FUCKING DOPE...THE HORN PLAYER REALLY GETS OFF INTO THIS SONG AND SOLO...HE REALLY FELT THIS SONG...AND MARCUS....
+ManiK MIKE CLARK IS A FUNKY BOY ON THE ORIGINAL FOR SURE...BUT HEY THIS VERSION KICKS AZZ...AS IT SEEMS THE MUSUCIANS PLAYED IT FROM THE HEART...THATS THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN PLAY THIS SONG IS BY FEEL AND SOUL....AND ITS ALOT OF HEART AND SOUL ON THIS STAGE
That bass line is extreme, if you think its easy, ask the bassist for the Roots: Herbie guested on Jimmy Fallon and the played "Actual Proof" and the bassist was LOST! Marcus Miller = DON DADA of the bass.
Spoiler alert: the roots are hacks, not real players. They coast on their fake names and cool guy friends. But put them onstage stage with any of these people and they get eaten alive and exposed as the frauds they are, like you saw.
@@stanley-fghijk441 ... The Roots are NOT HACKS!!! they are a hip-hop, funk band!. you will be hard pressed to find ANY musician that can play this tune short of real JAZZ musicians!!!
@@cDTeVe You literally proved my point. Hahaha!!! They're hacks, not real players. Real players can crush any style. And actual proof? That's a funk/fusion classic. The roots couldn't hang cuz they're frauds and all real players know this. But white boys loooooove them 🤣🤣🤣
Even though Marcus Miller probably gets closer than the others, no one does this song like Paul Jackson. I'm guessing it's a question of style. Somehow Jackson makes the line sound very nimble and light.
in this tune, in my opinion, the bassist is the one with the bigger chance of screwing everything. the bassist must be creative even with the written bassline, besides doing all the breaks. is hard to keep the time and groove and be aware of the structure. im studying this piece now, and fews version of this tune in youtube are good. the best ones besides the indefectible original with mike clark and paul jackson are from tribal tech, chris dave and this one where marcus is killin. he missed the coda though. hehe
Bartosz Borzeszkowski yeah, ive seen that one... definitively not my favorite. master collaiutta (whos im a HUGE fan) is fuckin everywhere. tal looks not fully confident to me. and herbie doesnt look confortable like he looks here. haha im sorry, im a fan of the outstanding work of tal wilkenfeld. shes amazing! i just think that not everyday is a good day. :)
Bartosz Borzeszkowski and believe me: get this groove right AND in the right feel is just plain fuckin hard. paul jacksons original with mike clark is just mind fuckin blowing.
Herbie Hancock - Actual Proof (Experience Montreux) ~1080p HD please dont take so serious my opinion. they are all world level top notch musicians. i just did a plain cold analysis and you can freely disagree.
And how is that overplaying compared to Mike Clark's original drumming? Unless you never listened to the original... if anything she's underplaying compared to Mike.
Attorney Ben Crump J.D. what is the chance of South African Dr. Ed Jones PhD and Susan Jones M.D. a kinfolk? How did Susan matriculate at Washington University School of Medicine. White Arab Muslim. Grace Jones description of Susan backwards.

Honestly not that impressed with Terri Lyne...I thought she good go off a little and go outside the groove a little. Maybe bounce off of Herbie a little more. I don't feel the pocket. Vinnie Colaiuta killed it in my opinion.
+Joseph Lopez Vinnie Colaiuta is also Vinnie Colaiuta. I love the guy but to expect that level of interaction from everyone is a little absurd considering Vinnie is the only guy who can do what he does the way he does it. If you could pick a person to not be impressed by I'd pick Roy for attempting to start the head of the tune way too early.
Teri Lynn Carrington is Smokin' !! Pushing the Groove, along with Herbie, while riding with Marcus Miller.
THIS SONGS ROCKS WITH MARCUS MILLER
HE IS TRULY AMAZING....
Really miss Roy. He was amazing to watch. Marcus is the MAN hands-down kids.
dude Roy's story makes me SO sad. saw Marcus and Herbie (separately) at SJ Jazz, life complete. Long live Roy
This incredible performance "takes off" already after a few seconds, when Carrington and Miller sets the groove..then.. it´s just to sit back and enjoy for 12 minutes!! Also don't forget the inimitable sound of Wah Wah Watson with his guitar.
This is so good. Thanks for uploading. Should have been on American television in 2005.
Terri Lynn Carrington is excellent , throughout. Fantastic.
except for the ending.. which must've really bummed her way out. It would've me. Once they lock in at the top otherwise stellar performance bringing this incredible piece of music. Roy's look over says it all.." where are you baby?"
could watch miller jam all day long
ALWAYS lifts my spirits!!!!!
Terry is killing it on the drums....awesome drummer!
Except for the ending which she totally blows. Roy gives her "the Look" the WTF look..she keeps smiling, but nope.
.

Great rendition. Loueke has a fascinating style.
this band is stack wit Legends
A monster, some donuts, a cigarette, and this is a excellect way to start my day
Herbie is the only part of that picture that’s healthy....but he might just be good enough for you to balance out the rest 😂

So true

carlton white it is ! Any bassist will tell you 👍🏿 It’s amazing how “easy” it sounds though
yeah im saw that they butchered the dayum song- i mean like it had a lost feel to it...lol

Christian Scott and Ambrose Akinsmusire are awesome trumpeters, but Roy Hargrove is sooooooo smooth and pure. And Terry is great.
Good
Suuuuuuper!!!!! Roy is a baaaad trumpet player!!!!
🙌🏾🙌🏾
Even though Marcus Miller probably gets closer than the others, no one does this song like Paul Jackson. I'm guessing it's a question of style. Somehow Jackson makes the line sound very nimble and light.

So Hargrove doesn't age? Great show guys!
oh yeah

Giant bang
RIP Wah Wah
The old guard get it - Herbie, Miller and Carrington. Loueke and Hargrove don't make the changes. That matters.
Don't know what version you're listening to, but trust me: both Roy and Lionel are more than clear about the changes to this tune.
Roy at 7:21!!!
If I can't get reply to Q i'd soon stop responding,thax
the bass is outstanding, but all musicians that play Herbie, has to be
Did the horn or synth come in at the wrong time?
Check version …. the original Thrust,,.
Lmao 3:12 Herbie look like he bout bust
i bout bust too
...and so there is a woman drummer!!!!!!! Brilliant Lyne Carrington...
Τρέλα
Did Roy start too soon?

Would you happen to have a link for the Tal Winkelfeld version? I can't seem to find it.

please dont take so serious my opinion. they are all world level top notch musicians. i just did a plain cold analysis and you can freely disagree.
この時のROYはノってるなぁ!
UH OH!
Drummer?
Terri Lyne Carrington
HA ha ha ha yeah man Herbie is like 40 or something ! ! ! ! Even 11 years ago back in the stone (age) day.
And how is that overplaying compared to Mike Clark's original drumming? Unless you never listened to the original... if anything she's underplaying compared to Mike.
@ 7:24 get ready for all sorts of groove in your face

I think part of it is that she's a bit high in the mix and Herbie's a bit low. In my opinion.
WHERE ARE THE REAL CONGA PLAYERS,,,, GIOVANNI , PEDRITO , YOSVANI , CHANGUITO ETC ....PUT A FUCKIN' KILLER CONGA PLAYER !!!!
You need VIZCAINO ON CONGAS !!!!
A CUBAN ...OR PEDRITO THE YOUNG KILLER GENERATION...
THIS IS JUST A BADDDD ZZZ VERSION OF THIS SONG...THIS BAND GROOVES THE FUCK OUT OF THIS SONG... THE HORN PLAYER KICKS RAW ASS ON HIS SOLO...SO MUCH FEEL....
blazers starten het thema te vroeg.. lelijk op dit niveau.
FIRE THE CONGA PLAYER !!!!! WHY DIES HERBIE ALWAYS DO THIS !!!?????
Honestly not that impressed with Terri Lyne...I thought she good go off a little and go outside the groove a little. Maybe bounce off of Herbie a little more. I don't feel the pocket. Vinnie Colaiuta killed it in my opinion.

+Chris Hicks I would have to agree with u on that. Good point
Roy plays his ass off on here! Miscommunication happens sometimes, it'd be silly to write off his entire performance because of a miscue.
You're either deaf or just hatin' on the sistah.
Joseph Lopez can you play better than her though ?
Flugel
Always the worst Conga players !!!!!
Que pena
