Watched this video too many times to count and each time I hear something new. I am completely heart broken on hearing the news of Roy Hargrove's passing. Rest in power Mr. Hargrove.
That was brutal in the bridge the audience was so out but then he modulates the piano solo rhythm to fit the crowd and that's why these guys are some of the best in the world.
I was blessed to have first seen Roy on the North Sea Jazz Cruise in 2007. He performed with his group and Marcus Miller (the host) on the ship. Roy blow the house down at the Ahoy Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The venue had a full house. It was interesting because in Europe, young folk are really into jazz. Since that time I've heard him on the West Coast, DC and New York. I never got tired of listening to Roy. He was a giant. RIP!
what "offbeat" are people talking about, it's obviously just shifted to create the groove. you can tell by how seamlessly it goes into the full arrangement in the end of the solo. I thought it was cool and I can definitely sense the beat he was "talking" about.
2019 and this still move me. These brothers are astonishingly brilliant. Roy's sound remains iconic in the music world, not just my beloved jazz. Roy was, and still remains, a genius, RIP Roy; an AMAZING artist; a PHENOMENAL musician.
Standing outside of Tower Records near Juilliard, I was blessed to meet this man before "The Roy Hargrove" arrived and my good friend Tichina Vaughn told me, hey you would not believe he has two records in there. He was the nicest young man, not pretentious, but humble. He was in a valley time, but truly blessed. God needed him more than us, but I will miss him! R.I.P. Roy. Play for Jesus and our Lord. He will say you are one of my best creations.
Roy Hargrove and Joshua Redman we’re both recipients of the National Association of Jazz fellowship. I saw them both play fresh out of high school. Great players.
This is legit the first time a solo brought me a tear. Im talking abt the piano solo. Amazing how even the audience couldnt keep up. I need lessons from him.
No hemos perdido un genio musical, hemos ganado! El estará aquí para siempre. Lastima que no pueda seguir enriqueciendo la música, pero eso es aquí, no sabemos en que otro plano estará haciendo lo suyo.
No matter how Roy changes up this song, Justin follows, fills in, brings the melody forward. They truly were a remarkable pair, more like brothers than band mates.
This is truly beautiful, not only the music, but how they´re doing what they love. You can see the joy and happiness clearly written on their faces. Hopefully I can accomplish this beautiful bliss in my life.
This piece was so good when he was alive after he passed away it's still amazing and I still listening this piece everyday but it sounds sometimes so sad..

I didn't find out about him until he passed away. Now I will never see him at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland, but I will make it my business to listen to all of his music :-). RIP Roy
Men, You are really great! Congratulations for a great tune, a massive hit. made also on version Candy Dulfer Jan Van Duikeren and her/his band. Greeting from Slovenia. Listen to the Sounds of Slovenia.
My friend, the great drummer and Ed Thigpen, said once that whatever a musician played up on stage, it was their gig. So pretentious or not, it's not for us to judge. I wasn't a huge fan of that solo but that's not my flavor. It was obviously yours, so that's another reason why people should never judge the playing of anyone in jazz.
But I garuntee you he is bit pretentious, it's like a reverse psychology thing lol jazz musicians have every right to be jaded given the current state popular music lmao
Roy Hargroveのファッションかっこよすぎ。
legend has it the audience is still clapping offbeat to this day
Good one hahahah the pianist solo was awkward as hell (although i liked it a lot)
@ TEVANG/// lol...pretty funny :)
they were clapping on beat when the pianist was playing his syncopated solo, just sounded awkward lol
At least they didn't clap on 1 and 3
It's pretty difficult to keep time when everything syncopated.
We lost a musical genius. But his music will never stop being fantastic.
truly
let's try to keep other geniuses alive then! ;) we still have sullivan fortner on the piano!
These guy's are fantastic.

He has to be one of my all time favorite pianists, and I just met him 8 minutes ago.
Lucky you😀
That’s @SullivanFortner !
Saw him with Cécile McLorin Salvant and her band last year. Pure beast...!!!
Today is the first anniversary of Roy Hargrove's death.
I will continue to listen forever.
They are gods - I’ve never heard such passion and mastery
that piano solo was the greatest simply because he had to fight through the crowds out of time clapping and he still killed it on some level
He was not fighting with the crowd, just playing with it, making syncopated rythms that made the crowd and him make great polyrythm
they were not playing out of time
@@cd-zw2tti think he meant offbeat
it's jazz, folks. variations permitted. catch them again for another except now, sadly, no Roy RIP
