Thanks for the content. Great stuff. I just came from the dealer where I rode the R12. I am 6ft 3in (190cm). I am soooo in love! nice fit and unreal ride!
This R12 Nine T option 719 is dead gorgeous! With the single seat and the beautiful bar end mirrors, the aluminum paint job in contrast with the red frame , ending on the back seat cover finished by the BMW logo, makes this a piece of art!
Hello - thanks for all great explanations. One question: if you would have the budget to buy the r12 nine t; would you go for it or spend 25% less on a 2 years old r nine t and spend on embellishments? Are the new r12 nine t specs/improvements killing the choice?
I test rode the R12 yesterday. It was very comfortable and powerful, but the suspension leaves a LOT to be desired. I hit a slightly depressed manhole cover, and got a terrible jolt to my back. It was actually painful! Other than that, it was great. Did a little research and Wilbers makes a fork spring kit and rear shock for this model that reportedly helps a lot. Look at the fork bottom, there is less than 4 inches of travel. But who wants to buy a new bike, only to have to make immediate suspension upgrades? They did this to lower the seat height and draw in shorter riders. I wish I'd tested the R12 nineT instead.
Thank you for this very interesting and informative discussion and for taking on my question about ergonomics. I'm right between you with my 178 cm, so now I'm really looking forward to trying these bikes out knowing that both of you felt comfortable. My eyes are mainly on the R12, but I wonder which one of the two you consider more comfortable for longer rides, the R 12 or the R 12 nineT. Maybe you can touch on that in your full review which I'm very much looking forward to. Thanks again and ride safely!
Trying to decide between the V100 Mandello and the R12 Ninet for city commuting and fun weekend outings? What's your thoughts? Obviously, the ninet has no protection wihich makes it less of a motorway machine but it felt more refined and fun for spirited riding.
Greetings from Thailand. Great content guys. Love the R12. I would definitely buy one, “ But “, this country imposes a 100 % import tax on that model, and although BMW has a factory here, they don’t build the R12 here. Just can’t get my head into paying double.
I’ve been looking at the R Nine T’s forever and test ride one a little while back at a BMW demo day when I was there to ride the M1000XR! I thought it would be a bad day to ride the bike alongside the insane MXR but it was just great fun. Super relaxed and could get a lick on if needed. I’d never ridden a boxer twin and being a four cylinder fanboy I had my doubts but the easiness of the R9T stuck with me. So, I’ve traded my 1000RR in for a R12 Nine T and can’t wait just jump on it and ride. Non of the drama of riding a sports bike but just riding. I’m going to ACF it and ride it whenever so it does not become a fair-weather princess…
Odd to me that the bikes have so much cool tech yet no fuel guage. My Ducati from 2011, has no abs, no tc, no rider aids but has a fuel guage. Who made that decision on this bike.
No R1200 boxer engine motorcycles features a fuel gauge. My 2012 R1200-R, the architecture from which the NineT lineup is build from has the same « no fuel gauge » issue. I heard it is related to BMW been sued in a prevues model about the bad accurancy of these fuel gauges.
Nice to add that TFT but BMW will use it to drive YOU crazy with all their dam warning lights and service lights. Looks great but can give you headaches, like dating a model in many ways.
An r90 set up for road race has been on display at my local BMW dealership... The 1200 version of that would be smoking hot 🔥 Especially since those things are freaking air-cooled 🥶 I think there's a naked RS. 1250 that's water-cooled variable cammed and better... But you got to have new product every year😮
I still ride a lot faster (than what I should be riding), but If I was to have only one bike in the garage, I would go for the R 12 Nine T. A nice cruiser could be the Speed Master -But shaft driven , if triumph could make the change -, once I simply love the beach bars on a cruiser style bike, it really has the virtue to transport me back in Time. Chain drive maintenance? Ho no, don’t want anymore of that. ✌🏻✌🏻
Another great one from you guys love your work, keep up with great work. My choice for modern retro is new Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 😊❤. BMW R12 NineT is just too expensive for what it is, and BMW going back to EICMA they will bring electric GS models 😂😂
I was recently in a showroom looking at a BMW 2023 100 year edition R nineT and the black paint finish on the fuel tank was very orange peel. Very disappointing on a 22,000 euro motorcycle. I do not think you would accept this one a BMW motor car.
Test ridden the new R12 today, harsh suspension, engine sound is disappointing compared to other offerings outside of BMW... sounds like a sowing machine...and general fit and finish was quite poor. I think the triumph speed twin and even the T120 is a better motorcycles in my opinion.
They missunderstood the fuel warning. They are correct that it has no fuel gauge but once you hit the 30 mile reserve the warning comes on and starts counting up to let you know how many miles you have done on reserve - he just missed the first mile on the warning and had about 28 miles left. Source: I got my R12 on Tuesday and had the same confusion by the afternoon :)
To be honest, I don't like the styling of the new R12 ninety with the huge and flat tank with not much cuts and curves and also very mich out of proportion with the rest of the bike. The tank while being very simple, flat and large, it totally overwhelmed every other area of the motorcycle, Also there's nothing in the rear section that would compliment or match the large tank. They should have given a small rear fender with the same color as the tank and it would definitely make it a little more proportionate. If it wasn't for the really nice brush aluminum style shiny finish, the tank would never look good. Let's say we gave it a different color like a simple grey, or black or red, or blue, unless we give it a shine and good finish, the bike wouldn't look good because of it.

You guys helped me much to find a final decision. I'll go for the cruiser. Great show. Really informative. Thanks so much.
the episode that I was waiting for a while! great content, really appreciated!
Hi, I wish BMW would release the R60 Classic or even the R45. It would create some healthy competition for Royal Enfield and Triumph.

Amazing show, thank you boys.
What about the heat since it's air-cooled when being stuck in traffic?

Fuel warning light comes on then counts you down to empty. Reserve has about 4 litres or say 40 miles so its do-able. Reset the trip when you fill up.

I’m confused who would choose the r12 over the r18. Hate the exposed wiring up by the neck/triple tree.
You guys are the smashie and nicey of the motorcycle world Fab Mungas dudes 🤘🏻🤘🏻✌🏻

Question: why did the make the R12 sound like a moped
Where is the view review of these bikes?

Why have you stopped doing your Rarified Road channel Tim?

Funnily enough a lot of Ducatis of late don't have fuel gauges....
I think Ducati can take notes from BMW for model variety.
How is there no fuel gauge in this day and age

What would you choose between a Triumph bobber and the R12?
Please compare R12 vs triumph vs guzzi. Please your thoughts 👍👍👍
the most obvious comparison with the R12 is the Triumph Speedmaster IMO.
I still ride a lot faster (than what I should be riding), but If I was to have only one bike in the garage, I would go for the R 12 Nine T. Green or silver nineT?
Tim, I have a question for you....are you doing ads for glasses at Boots?... just seen a Boots advert that I would swear is you!!!
Sporting is best
Força leões

Like Tim I always used to say I was 5 foot 10 & a half haha 😂
Did you say an end field is like a rusty Ural?😂
My alpine blue R9T/5 was a real beauty until some low life stole it. My Kawasaki Z900RS SE and Thruxton R help with the pain.
Seems like a lot for a motorcycle with😮 old tech with an air cooled engine
Great looking bikes with priemum feel, like u said other versions might be made? Another urban gs.
The old one had consumption and miles left.
BMW R 12 Nine T but it has 4 models...
I'd rather call it a R120/9T, my first bike was a R80/7
Test ridden the new R12 today, harsh suspension, engine sound is disappointing compared to other offerings outside of BMW... sounds like a sowing machine...and general fit and finish was quite poor. I think the triumph speed twin and even the T120 is a better motorcycles in my opinion.
What use is a warming saying you have 2 miles 😂 main reason I didn’t buy these, yes can use trip but what a pain
They missunderstood the fuel warning. They are correct that it has no fuel gauge but once you hit the 30 mile reserve the warning comes on and starts counting up to let you know how many miles you have done on reserve - he just missed the first mile on the warning and had about 28 miles left.

Water based paint is more environmentally friendly...
fuel gage is just useless ... 200km per tank ...
😮 What the hell are quid? It sounds like some sort of bird to chase with a shotgun..
Loud pipes piss off neighbors. Enjoy!
