Hey Folks. Halliwell Jones are actually running some offers on bikes for March delivery:
You get an extra £500 if you part-exchange a BMW and order a new bike from stock, for March delivery 👍
    www.halliwelljones.co.uk/bmw-motorrad/spring-trade-in-offer
Just thought I'd share the offer (and no, I won't be getting commission! 🤣)

As a safety measure, I don't understand why BMW ask for another £200 for better headlights, that should be standard on all bikes they sell. These additional costs are becoming too common in my opinion, it is one thing to pay more for special paint or a more comfortable seat, or luggage etc, but safety features, if available, should always be included in the base price.

    • @adammcallister2260
      @adammcallister2260 10 месяцев назад +9

Let’s be honest, if they only offered the better headlight, it would hike the minimum bike price up. Look at it as an opportunity to reduce the price of the bike if you don’t want a better headlight rather than a price riser.

Great review. Apparently most owners say the lack of fuel gauge becomes a non issue once you get used to it. Most owners learn to reset the trip meter every time they fill up. When the fuel gets low a reserve light appears giving you a known remaining miles until empty. I believe it’s approximately 40 miles. I am buying one.😊

  • @bsmukler
    @bsmukler 10 месяцев назад +7

That drone footage is first rate 👍 I love the sound and feeling (throttle) of the oil-cooled motor and, from your commentary, it sounds like BMW upped their game on the suspension. I think the new design flows better and looks more of a piece rather than a construction project. Like you, I like analog gauges, but I also like the small LCD screen as I believe the dinner platter LCD screens look odd on naked bikes, like you forgot to move your iPad before taking off.
I wasn’t in the market for another tooling-around motorcycle, but your wonderful review has got me thinking . . .

Another great video, Kate. Almost bought a RNineT a few years ago, but went with a Ducati Monster instead (the sound of Termignoni race pipes loosened my wallet!). I've always liked the look of the RNineT though despite not being a BMW boxer fan in general. I think they nailed the styling and customisation options with it. This new one looks even better, but to not have a fuel gauge on a modern TFT is inexcusable!

With those who want more information about the fuel gauge situation...
I ran it until the fuel light came on, then it gave me a count up with every mile I put on it. I got to 18 miles on this count up and didn't want to risk running out so I fueled up.
I suspect you'd get about 20-25 miles from the start of the count up but of course, it depends how you ride! :)
I also didnt fancy running dry to find the limits 🤣

    • @josephstuhlreyer7972

In other words the gas gauge is the low fuel light. This makes good sense to me. To confirm, set trip odometer to zero at each fill-up, then when the low fuel light comes on, check average miles per gallon. As you say, there remains about 20 or 25 miles of reserve.

Great 1st ride review Kate - and what a machine!
I'm presuming there's a low fuel warning light which is good enough for me; I fill up before every ride and reset the trip meter at the same time.
I like the traditional appeal of the R12 Nine T, but I do like that digital display; looks more streamlined than the twin clocks.
Yes, the bike IS bit of a heffer - certainly more so than an MT-09 - but I'll bet it's more stable as a result.
Shaft drive can divide opinion, and as an owner of two current and many BMWs down the years I have to admit to being biased.
But I don't think anyone can argue that the R12 9T is easier to clean & maintain.
Thanks again for a really professional and fun video 🙂

Now this is what I was meaning, when I said in my last review on the Yammie MT, I can hear it in your voice, and in your overflowing excitement, what your real deep down thoughts and feelings are towards the bike you're reviewing. The Yammie was well done..., professionally and objectively.
On this one however, you are over the moon with it, your ride is filled wirh bright sparkling lights and pink unicorns, throwing confetti at you, as the pedestrians cheer you on with glasses of bubbly in their hands!
BMW... near and dear to your heart! Why? I don't know, but I accept it, and am very glad for you being able to swing ya leg over a Beemer again... despite still having one at home?
Good review and entertaining to watch, although i'm no fan of this brand.

Great review, I shall be visiting my local BMW dealer. As someone else noted, this bike DOES have a fuel warning light so that’s fine with me, as I have lived with a Suzuki TL1000S for 27 years, that has the same feature. I’d also prefer the twin clocks as I think this is more in keeping with the bike’s character, and I’m an old git! 😂

    Hi 👋 Kate,
That’s the exact same bike my buddy and I have seen at BMW dealer in Modena, right yesterday morning. And I have to admit it captured our attention: I mean, It’s a real beautiful piece of technology, the perfect example that brilliant minds can match functionality and beauty. I think here it’s even more expensive: the label said “it starts from 18(k) something and in that configuration 21 something euros”… I don’t know the actual change, actually. Anyway, your explanation are always perfectly clear. I follow you for your contents, but I also I love the sound of your voice and your accent too: I think it improves my English comprehension, I understand 100% of what you say, probably because you don’t speak too fast. I love it. Thank you very much

The no fuel gauge thing is what wrote the old Nine T off for me when I was doing my bike search. I cannot believe they didn't rectify that problem with the new bike...especially considering that you have a TFT option now. What are they thinking?

Keep track of your mileage and you will never need a fuel gauge. I've owned 14 bikes over the years and only one had a fuel gauge and I only ran out of gas one time in 300,000 + miles of riding.

@@jamesschneider3828 I'm always surprised when people complain about the lack of a fuel gauge. Are they new riders?

    • @operator0
      @operator0 10 месяцев назад +2

@@taylorhickman84 Yes, I am a new rider, but it's more than that. Why is it that nearly every single bike you buy new today has a fuel gauge....except for a bike from one of the most premium brands? To me that seems like a complete lack of forethought from them. No concern about their competition, and no concern about how that makes them look to the customer. Customers have a choice, even in this segment, but it seems as if BMW is telling us to screw off.
This bike is expensive for the segment. There's no excuse for not having a fuel gauge, except that they just don't give a shit.

I have the scrambler version of the BMW R nine T from the predecessor generation to the new bike here tested and very well reviewed on this video. The seat of my bike is ergonomically right but it’s a hard seat. The front suspension and due to the 19” wheel is very competent. But what I find unbearable after an our on the saddle is the rear suspension. Very poorly forgiving. Specially in road bumps and irregular asphalt roads. I have already tested this new iteration of the bike, now called the R 12 Nine T and the seat is much more comfortable than mine, in a distance of a million miles away. The rear suspension or the new chassis of the bike, I’m not sure, but one of them or both, turned the ride into a substantial more comfortable experience, with no concessions to the sporty feeling of the ride that if isn’t the same, it possibly is even more sensible and proactive to a more spirited ride than ever, don’t you agree?
This is not an irrelevant upgrade and modernization of the model, it seems to me, more like a big step up on quality of the ride. BMW probably stepped up a little their game, again. I’m wondering…and guessing, if they continue going on this climbing development it will come to a point where we’ll have to sell the family jewels to buy a BMW!
    😅😂

So why the heck it still has no fuel gauge by now, is mental. I wonder if they do a factory lowered option? Or a super low seat for us tiny women. Thanks again I’m gonna have a look at one asap now though.

That torquey boxer engine in that chassis just works. BMW just nailed that formula. ! A superb handling bike with smooth grunt. I miss my R9t.

Clearly this is aimed at those with money. In this day and age I and many thousands will never buy one.
    Great video as usual Kate.

You can set trip to 0 when you fill up, empty at 150 miles. It would be nice to have a count-down trip you could set 150 at fill up.

Awesome review! No fuel gauge - no bueno! That would be a deal breaker for me. Quite honestly I think it's silly. Especially for BMW. With the technology we have today I reckon someone could design a fuel gauge foe a thimble. Other than that is is a beautiful bike. That area was " the trough?" Very nice indeed . Cool rock walls . 😉 Best!

Lovely review. The roads of East Slovenia (seen here Ptuj to Obrez on to Sredisce ob Dravi) are understandably not the nicest this time of year. Nevertheless, Slovenia is such a pretty place, as one can easily attest in this moving pictoral. Their fish and chips shops are some of the best anywhere.

If they called it the R1290 no one would think the name is a bit of a mouthful, but somehow R12 Nine T is despite being the exact same mouthful.

For the types of roads that are most rewarding to ride in the UK, it's all about the torque, and where it's available, plus being able to set the suspension up for your weight. Most UK B roads are either knackered, or so badly repaired, it's a joke. Not quite a series of potholes surrounded by tarmac, but not far off. Having said that, the scenery's beautiful, especially round the Trough. You should nip in to the cafe at Dunsop Bridge next time you're over there...they do nice cake! I reckon BMW should do the San Remo colour way with the tail hump shown on the 719. Keep the brushed ali panel theme on the sides (like race number panels) but paint the top section in the dark sage green.

Ducking and diving! I hate the way BMW pricing is all a bit of a guessing game. Has anyone actually ever seen - or purchased a bog standard one? Thanks for helping to demystify what you get … or don’t get for your money! 😂
I like the bike - a lot, but agree with other comments that you seem to have to pay extra for things that should be standard on a bike for that money! No fuel gauge? Seriously? Great review by the way! Thanks Kate.

Nice looking bike but 14000+ it’s out of the price range of loads of petrol , what dash need binoculars to see the smaller digits,if that’s what they now call a dash ,I’m really Father Christmas , the bike industry as gone nuts on pricing 😮 another good review 😊

@@UsernameKate Hi Kate. Connecting some dots: Could indeed very well be the old chassis. Did you read my comment about the gap between the front of the tank and the headstock? Furthermore you mention the sporty feeling in spite of the comfy bars. The existing type was already known for being a bit of a torture bench. Especially the half faired version with the clip-ons and rear-sets. Should stretch you flat out on your belly. Why that chassis is so long? I suspect the original layout for the engine etc. was designed for the front suspension system that is still used on the GS’ so they had to improvise a bit to get a standard fork in. Long wheelbase agogo!

@@UsernameKate OK, my bad🤪🤣 Still the rest of what I said makes sense. I doubt this new chassis is much shorter then the old one. Might be interesting to compare the wheelbase. Let’s what I can find out.

Love the bike. I own a 2022 R1250R. For this motorbike however, a hard pass on the TFT. Two dials and a proper aluminum windscreen will do. I guess you would just use your trip odometer for fuel and when the low fuel light comes on what, maybe 30 miles away from empty? I don’t know.

  • @marcbrasse747

(Visually) loud maybe out but I love it. Better then any loud exhaust since it leaves passers by the option to look away.

I was a fan of rninet style2 (silver), so that option 719 version is quite attractive except bright red frame.
Don't understand too why they omitted the fuel gauge even though they added a digital dash.
