Saw them 3X in 1979. Yup, Bon was something special. It was more fun on stage with him somehow, seeing that Cheshire cat grin and all the spins. Brian was great and a hell of a performer, but Bon brought the magic.
..It's really fun to watch them rehearsing esp Malcolm Young, like other bandmembers setting their sights towards him....maybe for directions or whatever. He also used to play lead🎸 in their earlier days when the band started out. But he handed over that job completely to Angus to focus & concentrate more on song writing, composing music, directing & setting up the band etc. So, one may easily say that the band AC🦵DC revolved around Malcolm Young. A great🎸 player, a songwriter & ofc a great musician. RIP, Malcolm...
Their entire catalog is pretty much written by Malcom. The band leaves room for Brian Johnson’s vocals and Angus’ leads, he has all the room to come to the front. This band doesn’t show off one bit, it starts and ends with Malcom’s ability to do everything you mentioned and yes, step aside and let the magic happen. Seeing this video reminds me of seeing them as a teenager, they pulled the house down all three times when I saw them in the 80’s on three different tours, the bar is made of unobtainium. Everyone says “yeah their stuff is so simple”, yet who has ever matched their routine and catalog?
No doubt, Malcolm was the genius of the band. The brain as the other members used to say. But I don’t think Angus gets enough credit as for song writing contributions. He has written a lot of lyrics over the years, and obviously he’s come up with some riffs too.
Afaik, Malcolm and Angus only ever experimented with switching between lead and rhythm in the early days before the band. Malcolm’s only got one solo in Acca’s songs, Show Business.
